  1. The topic says it all. Buoys have the advantage to be able to be easily improved when planted (it is possible with lit lamps too but requires glowing lumps in inventory). There is no way, though, to modify the position of such a planted object other than bashing it down to the according damage/quality. In larger infrastructure projects in particular where teams, friends, allies are working together, it would be useful and helpful to be able to assign permissions to others, e.g. to unplant and replant, or at least to move a planted object.
  2. Once again, -1 The baseline is not that erosion could not be interesting, but that it would mean introducing a new automatism where nobody can exactly say which parameters and limits it should have, and nobody is able to predict the harmful side effects, damage, bugs, even disasters it would cause. It already seems fairly controversial which timeframe would be appropriate for geologic or human lifetime scale. And given differing interests and tastes I fail to see any wide agreement over it. To introduce, test, and hone such an algorithm which is going against what Wurm in its core is, a player terraformed world with all the responsibilities and possible guilt it brings, would be a task eating up lots of developers' resources which could be used for better ends. And please, stop the damn "new player argument". It is something which should be a misconduct bannable by forum moderators (😎 ok kidding). Everybody has different perspectives of new player experience mainly based on the own experiences as a beginner, and beyond that, the "new player argument" is mostly used to decoy own interests and motives, in other words, it is pure ideology. To give an example: People here want to argue that the pre-terraformed landscapes are an abhorrence to players. In fact, not few players like to settle on the ground of former deeds. I did so, extended the small place I had chosen, but was grateful for the work done before by Marzhr and her former "House of Khnum", a remembrance I hold dear, and have the mini token planted at its former place, one tile north of my own token. I liked the small flat area, the pretty hedges, though I changed a lot and have no idea of the preexisting house/s. We on Xanadu have lots of virgin grounds for everybody searching such an experience. And yes, large flat square grounds, and dirt and sand cliffs in particular, are ugly and a mess mostly (some terraces are pretty though and remind me the landscapes of inner China which are indeed "terraformed" for millenia), and I use to revert them to hilly slopes whereever they are in my neighbourhood, not at least because I hate to run against when driving and riding. But I do not want automatisms to do that work for me. Infrastructure work is a crucial activity on Wurm, and should not be taken away from the players.
  3. Ok, if it does not occupy the devs' work schedule too much and some love it, and it is possible to toggle it off, I refrain from a -1. But not more. I would love a detachable combat tab/window which would allow to see event and combat at a time. But honestly I deeply hated the spill of numbers and/or text in some games. Most time they created more confusion than knowledge and were simply ugly.
  4. Steam Hype?

It has been announced already that the new servers should be based on a cloud situated solution for a couple of reasons. At that time, AWS was the planned provider which has proven non viable. Therefore I strongly assume that the experiences with the new provider are waited for and evaluated before the final go for the launch. I do not expect the new servers being rolled out on Hetzner infrastructure unless there is no other choice.
  5. No matter what is chosen, it defaults to "normal" behaviour. And it worked in the past.
  6. Funny name ideas you folks all have :). As to the release date, let me speculate: Much depends on the Celebration move and its outcome. If all goes well, the new servers will be created on that hoster's platform.
  7. Thanks. That one escaped me. And what he writes makes sense and strengthens my argument.
  8. This is utter nonsense and fake news. The devs and team have stated that there are no plans whether or not connecting the new servers to the existing ones. That is something very different from stating that there are plans (or decisions) for not connecting the new servers to the existing ones. The same thing as absence of evidence etc. .. It is obvious that keeping the new servers seperate for quite a time is a sane and necessary measure to prevent them being steamrolled by the matured community of the existing clusters. But especially in case the new launch succeeds and a new community part is flourishing and maturing, there is no point why the members of the new community should be barred from visiting the old lands, participating in community events like impalongs and unique slayings, even resettling. As to the names, I have no idea. Let us see.
  9. A building, tastefully designed, may well fit into the landscape. there is no need that it always be but a cubicle. It may serve useful purposes, such as a shelter from attacking mobs for explorers and travellers, as well as a landmark (it may contain coord info in name in addition), be locked (freedom access drop pickup) against trolls, contain a bed, even a mailbox. Buildings can be situated under ground as well.
  10. -1 The very concept of Wurm is that the world is shaped by players, not by algorithms. The downside is that even misdeeds of players may shape the world of Wurm, which is no RL simulation, though. Mechanisms for erosion have been suggested again and again but still remain unconvincing. If the sight does not please, take a shovel, hatchet, and pickaxe, seeds, and sprouts, and change it.
  11. I agree that your idea makes sense, and would encourage you to make a suggestion of that kind. But yes, it is that way atm. I also work with 7 nets when net fishing which allows a semi afk activity.
  12. Welcome back to Wurm, Ajala, and all the best for you. Hope you get that issue fixed, and get help when rebuilding.
  13. All fish from a previous net fishing action needs to be removed before starting a new one. It was like this from begin of the new system and looks like works a designed, no bug. Depending on skill and RNG you may catch more than one fish in one action. Usual fishing net use is having more than one (ideally as many as you can stack actions), stacking activating and choosing the "fish" action for all of them in a row, emptying each net once one action terminates, setting up repair. After the last action and repair ended, restart.
  14. Short update: We removed a lot of resource veins in the northern tunnel Still we are a very small team, basically Aske and me. Any assistance would be appreciated.
  15. Tor, I see your problem, and had similar before, server restart short after a rift had started, and that is unpleasant. But for the devs, and everyone not close to any actual rift, I fail to see any way to predict the length of a rift fight once the rift has started. I saw rifts taking around 1:15hrs at shortest, and some which took days even on Freedom. The dev team, meaning devs and GM together, may and possibly should check for starting events, be it automatic ones like rifts, be it player generated ones like public slayings (where we also had an issue once with a patch announced less than 30 minutes before slaying started, though that was concluded narrowly before shutdown) when planning a restart. It should not be hard to have a script doing so for automatic events. It would nice then to issue a warning or where possible to restart earlier than 30 minutes before event start. It should be evident that maintenance work like server restarts is taking precedence over all player activities. Yet it would be nice indeed not to interrupt a running event whereever possible.
  16. Thanks wipeout for the graphic and revealing description of the affairs though I fully agree to Madnath that it is a real pain to read your otherwise very interesting text. At least you learnt to make paragraphs, thousand thanks for that, allows to remember the point where one dropped off due to exhaustion and to resume reading. Some points. The 5s for a deed are somewhat exaggerated. It costs 1.3s inititially and 1s/30 (formerly 1s/28) for every day the deed lasts. As that usually is rather days or at worst 2 weeks for a public slaying I would consider a mean of 2s realistic. Nitpicking, I know. Btw. interesting description how to lure the unique into the mine, a good idea with the tamed creature. Any recommendation which is best (maybe a dommed troll)? So far I only knew the suicide version, letting an alt do the suffering (😎) dropping a tent inside the mine, running past it, spawn there when dead, etc. til strongwall is done. The disadvantage of public vs. private slaying is described correctly. I would like a lot if there were a maybe GM created reward for those who take the pains to do. After all, the private slaying, sadly, also is a huge waste of dearly searched bloods of several kinds. At a private slaying, maybe 10-30 are given depending on the number of alts the slaying team is able to mobilize, at a public slaying it is hundreds. And given the number of bloods I already spent on a few tools only there can never be enough. And beside all else, public slayings are one of the few opportunities to see and meet characters from all regions and servers in person, to admire creative armours and clothing, to learn more about the world. There cannot be enough thereof.
  17. I am not sure whether I understood you right. But "dangerous side shaft" is not about height. Any height, even dropshafts (after a warning which can be ignored and overridden) will adapt at the corners. "Dangerous side shaft" is about diagonals. This often results in that you can mine out such a tile from one side but not from the other. In other cases it needs to collapse the neighbouring tile forming the diagonal gap, then mine out the tile previously warned about, then the collapsed tile. https://www.wurmpedia.com/index.php/Mining_warnings @ team: please look into this and possibly move to CA chat in case you agree that this is not a bug.
  18. There isn't to the best of my knowledge, just go to sleep (which means log out) and relog, that should do. The bed needs to be inside some completed house (4 walls). If you have no house with bed yourself, there are inns everywhere mostly with free beds.
  19. Funny, but : Even on the new servers, there will be old wurmians creating accounts. With their skill and knowledge, it will take them days to get to 50 skill, week(s) to get to 70 etc., and be equipped appropriately. And they know everything about penning a unique and slapping it to death. Now mind that even my priestess with her 5.54 FS, a ql51 silver longsword, and ql40 studded (sry I equipped her in a hurry ) caused damage on a dragon during a public slaying, and survived at least one full hit. So uniques are bound to die even there, and even against crowds of noobs, will only be bit bloodier. And ofc experience players will dominate, there even more than here. That said, I disagree to any "making uniques more available to everybody" which I consider dumbing down. I love public slayings (not only, but quite much for the bloods, but even more for the fun of the event). I would be all for every reasonable proposal making public slayings at least bit more frequent, such as rewards/bonuses for the organizer/finder. But that's all in my opinion. I am fine with private slayings though I never was part in one and won't be for some forseeable future.
  20. To shortly describe what is done: The east-west tunnel is 5 lane, 2 road lanes to become a highway once all resource veins in the way are cleared, and 3 (2 and a half) water lanes to be lowered to cog/caravel depth some day. All walls are reinforced. The road has highway fit entrances on both sides. Once all resource veins are cleared about 1100 support beams, 550 catseyes, and accordingly bricks and mortar are needed to make a nice highway which is planned in the future to connect into and over the mountains west of F21. This is what is left to mine out: The south to north (F21 to E21) tunnel is also fully mined out to 3 lanes (to become 3 shipping lanes) now, and fully reinforced. Yet floors have to be lowered by about 40-50 slope on 3x220 tiles ca. to make it passable for ships (is rock floor atm). And there are about 43 resource veins to be mined out (posting a list below, that is a moving target though as we are working on). Everyone wanting to help is welcome. Aske may accommodate helpers in his deed "Bos Harbor" in F21, additionally, we have a workers's shed in the desert area in F21. I have 2 priests in the area who may summon. Some pics: Tunnel Entrance at Bos Harbour in F22 Highway junction and tunnel road entrance at Bos Harbour Tunnel exit to lake at F21 Inside the tunnel Road exit in F21 Workers' shed and road exit in F21 Northern tunnel exit in E21 Inside northern tunnel.
  21. Just speculating: May the "Economics" output extend over several aspects of "King's coffers'" funds, e.g. from killing, burying, for/bot etc.? And curious: Where do I get the "Economics" output?
  22. Thanks a lot for the slaying, went smooth and was excellently organized, especially given the short notice. Some pics: 😀
  23. If I understood that correctly, your problem is a Linux (or Mac?) client issue. If so, the right forum would be "Technical Issues". If I misunderstood, and you are using a Windows client, it might still be the right forum, there (though I do not know a lot about MS Windows and Mac). It would need to specify which PC , operating system, and (if Linux ) which graphical desktop environment (e.g. KDE, Gnome, Xfce) is used.
  24. I am somewhat hesitating considering the consequences and possible problems of such changes. Note that on most servers not only deeds and highways exist, but also a huge network of parish roads, hidden paths, little bridges and all that. In fact, for deed holders and alliances aware of and concerned with their environs this might create new sets of chores, could make ways and trails impassable, turn slopes into deadly cliffs and so on. Not to speak of a likely new source of bugs and side effects. We already have super fast building decay once the creator is gone.
  25. I have that problem with KDE Plasma Desktop too but only for settings not for target and select. It does not occur with XFCE.
