  1. Really having trouble seeing the problem here. The thing to remember is that, in Wurm, a zero-skilled character is essentially a clone fresh out of the incubator — not a unique young adult human with a whole childhood and adolescence behind them full of different passive and active learning experiences. If that were the case, at character creation we would receive randomly rolled characteristics and skills — with some as high as, say, 50. But we don't. All of us start at zero in everything. That means terrible fail rates at a lot of skills that RL adults take for granted, but nevertheless had to be learned at some point in their youth. Apart from cooking, making kindling is one example that comes to mind. But the RL learning process often really does involve consuming — I hesitate to call it 'wasting' — resources. I'm pretty sure this is so obvious, on reflection, that there's no need for examples. The way Wurm represents these lost resources is necessarily an approximation; it's a game, so it has to simplify the complex, both for gameplay and programming reasons. You could think of the 50–100 meals it takes to reach a decent level of HFC as a rough equivalent to the food we wasted as children or teenagers messing around in the kitchen.
  2. There's actually closer to 24k total meat/fillets in that picture.
  3. Ritual of the Sun

[22:41:15] You explain how Magranon is strong but still needs you to work faithfully so that he may manifest his powers. Calling all Mag priests: the sun is rising over Xanadu. My suggestion is anyone who's wants in on the Ritual of the Sun rite posts in this thread. Then when we reach peak favour we set a time and place, à la public slaying. My Mag (100 faith) is raring to go, either as caster or link and I can host and provide free summon casts if necessary.
  4. This is the message I got today when trying to port to Epic too soon after combat: [11:19:39] Nothing happens. You sense a disturbance - maybe your are not calm enough yet.
  5. Do I like the new fishing system? In short, yes, very much. Speaking as someone who rarely bothered fishing the old way, I can't comment on what has been lost, but this system feels just about perfect. It provides a straightforward low-investment method of getting risk-free meat (net fishing), but also a rich, complex system with many variables (rod fishing), where you have to pay attention and learn to get the maximum benefit. Dare I say it? If you're getting bad results under the new system, you're doing it wrong. There, I said it. My experience I've been at it for a few weeks now and have gone from 10ish to 78 fishing skill. With a CoC rod, it took no more time to raise fishing than most other skills – digging would be comparable. Having continually refined my methods, I can now easily harvest 1,000 kg of fish in 90 minutes — that's more than 3,000 fillets! No exaggeration, this was today's result, putting fishing miles ahead of hunting as a reliable, risk-free, semi-afk source of meat for, say, pan-filling. And even at lower skill you can get very impressive yields from catfish. My gear: mainly 70–80ish ql, except for hooks, which I don't usually imp (so 20ish ql). To anyone frustrated about losing gear: (1) watch for damage and repair it periodically, replace lines when necessary; (2) use lower-tier reels until you skill up; and (3) pay attention to which kinds of fish snap your line — you don't have to try to hook/catch every nibbling fishy. Unless you have the requisite skill, hit ESC when the feistier fish bite in order to save your gear. In short, the new system has enough depth that there are pay-offs for players who take the time and effort to thoroughly suss it out, and also lesser rewards for less interested players. And to me, that seems a great fit with the overall Wurm ethos. NB A lot of the info you need to tweak your set-up is now available on the wiki (the table of fish properties is especially useful).
  6. Yes, the devs do read these pages and sometimes implement suggested changes.
  7. Not true. I would also appreciate it as I make regular use one-bite affinity boosts from high-ql food, sometimes 10-20 bites at one time. Pretty sure I'm not the only one who does this either, by the way. All that nibbling can mean a lot of context menus I'd rather not have to navigate, so a keybind would be a fine QoL improvement. Another nice addition, as has been suggested by others in the past, would be a 'nibble' command (and keybind) that restricts the eat action to a single bite.
  8. The achievement was at 100%. It should not have been. That is the issue. How could a player know what the bug was? Was the bug that it showed 100% when it should have shown 0%? Or that it was white (incomplete) when it should have been green (complete)? Wow, just wow. Have you considered the (blindingly obvious) possibility that Finnn sometimes has time to burn through sleep bonus and sometimes does not? And that he was waiting till his sleep bonus was low to collect the reward – as should be his right? By this logic, I guess if I go on holiday and don't drive my car for a month, anyone is entitled to take it, because clearly 'it is not that important to me'? Crikey, if you can't see the flaw in your reasoning here, frankly, I can't help you. We get it, Angelklaine. This didn't affect you. It did affect us and quite possibly others. Our grievance is genuine even if it is difficult for you to appreciate due to differences in play styles, priorities, etc. Thanks for the response. I understand the how and the why of the fix; the more pre-journal achievements that can be credited, the better, as far as I'm concerned. What continues to perplex me, however, is the apparent disregard for the fix's impact on reward allocation for players who were almost done with the affected tiers. Essentially, the goal posts were shifted well after the starting whistle had been blown — usually a major no-no in any game, regardless of whether the shift is backwards or forwards. In my case, this was equivalent to me beginning a marathon, only to arrive at the finish line and find the organizers had changed the route mid-run, making it shorter overall, but longer for me personally since I now had to backtrack to get to the new finish line. Was this a huge deal for me on a personal level? No. But it does shake my confidence in the devs' concern for fair play — the foundation of any enjoyable gaming experience. Putting your hand up and saying 'Sorry, guys, we messed up here' goes a long way in reassuring us that our efforts will not be trampled going forward. It shows players that the dev team take seriously the impact of game mechanic changes on players' previous work. It's actually a sign of strength, not weakness.
  9. I guess you're addressing the OP, but for what it's worth: no, not in my case. I did not perform the actions required for the goal at any time after the journal roll-out. The conditions explicitly specified by the goal were not met. No one gave me any kind of response when I brought it up, much less anything resembling a 'ruling', which I would welcome very much. Personally, it's the lack of acknowledgement that rankles more than the inconvenience itself.
  10. Up to 25 (5kg) will cost 1c cod, 64 (12.8kg) will cost 3c. Not likely to matter too much to any buyer, but so it is! Good luck on the sale
  11. I was also caught out by one of these retroactive goal completions. The implementation of this really was short-sighted. It could have been predicted how auto-completing these goals might wreck the efforts of players who had been carefully working towards the completion of the affected tiers. My problem was less severe than Finn's and I've been able to work around it in the meantime. But any other players caught out by this deserve, at minimum, an apology, not the cold shoulder. Unannounced changes to game mechanics that wreck players' efforts should be rectified asap as they undermine trust in the game itself. Lose that trust completely, and the will to play will soon follow.
  12. I'm really not seeing why champs need to be protected from hunting, or more to the point how timed affinities are in any way an OP reward for killing a champ. Anyone who's able to hunt down and kill oodles of champs in one go will certainly have already figured out how to get super-long temp affinities from food. What's the simpler option: (1) make/buy a few custom affinity meals/pizzas for the exact combat skills you want to raise and get literally hundreds of skilling sessions out of them; or (2) hunt and kill dozens of champs every time before combat till you get the right affinity combo? Pretty easy choice in my mind. So sure, why not, +1 to temp affinities.
  13. Big +1 This would rectify the mess the recent update made of my journal goal work when past achievements were selectively ninja credited.
  14. It was indeed. I assumed the contradiction was a bug, since achievements prior to journal introduction do not count, much to the frustration of many people with 100-faith priests who must now do pointless sermons and redo (if they ever get the chance) global casts. If this was intended as advance notice, it was badly communicated. If pre-journal achievements are going to be retroactively auto-credited, the devs must either warn us (explicitly) well in advance or allow the journal reward to be granted on cluster of choice or even both clusters. Otherwise, players who spend time on both Freedom and Epic may see their efforts wasted, like I have.
  15. I don't know if this is a bug or intended, but it's definitely unwelcome: 'Slay Each Rift Creature' has gone from white to green in my Picking up Speed tier, even though I haven't been to any rifts since the journal was brought in. Problem is, it was one of two goals left to complete and I had been saving it as my last, to ensure I got the tier reward (affinity of choice) on Freedom. In the meantime, I had been working on the other goal, 'Catch a Huge Fish', on Epic. Now, all my effort making gear, skilling up fishing on Epic appears to be wasted as I will have to redo everything on Freedom. What gives? Are the devs gradually crediting certain past achievements with each update?
  16. I now have all the veg I need. Thank you, everyone who got in touch.
  17. Looking to buy 10k+ veg as cheaply as possible. Quality and type do not matter.
  18. You can smelt the necklaces.
