  1. Despite reading some posts i'm still struggling a lot to see what the writer did so bad to "offend" the Wurmians. Could have gotten some more publicity for the game by maybe building a better relationship with the writer and the site owner(s), but nope -- great attitude keep it up. I don't think i'll come post again (or maybe in a while) good luck Wurm
  2. That seemed like a series of pretty normal reactions and impressions from a first time player. And the comments of the reviewer (sort of a blog style) seemed pretty neutral/tame, far from "Butchering" or "Skinning alive" the game.
  3. The rocky areas look great, there are parts where i could be fooled to think it was filmed real footage (or photos). I like the various aspects they demonstrated with the lighting. The water wasn't the strong point.. It bothered me a bit how they they try to make everything else look super realistic but then use a cartoonish character (look at her face) 😛 P.S. why is everything around that place collapsing..? She flies by and literally the statue decided to start falling toward her in that exact moment.. then later on a tower and more rocks.. yea i get it.. probably for demonstration purposes.
  4. To be frank, it never crossed my mind. But sure, why not. Nice idea the shield strapped on your back when "sheathed".
  5. Some Wurm Unlimited servers have 1-handed spears. Since it's a modded weapon each server has a different take on its stats (damage, parry chance, what materials are available etc). I'd welcome such change in Wurm Online, always used a wooden / metal spear. Recently switched to sword since i couldn't use a shield with them.
  6. 1:FOCUS, should i use it to increase blocking chance at all?(Footing and Parry chance influences my Shield Block chance?) Focus provides additional damage reduction per stage and other combat related stats like rating, dodge etc. So does high ground. Try to avoid fighting creatures from a lower footing. Try to use focus if you plan to stay in combat with the same creature for a prolonged time. If you switch target or disengage you'll lose the focus stages quickly. Your fight skill level affects the chance of being able to focus to higher stages, up to the "supernatural/invincible" (can't remember the correct name atm). If you get hit you can lose focus levels (i think it's related to the amount of damage received). There is a method where you alternate shield bash and focus so you keep the creature's focus level low and raise your own: Focus up right after a shield bash so the creature will be briefly stunned, giving you a small window to focus without retaliation. If you manage to get to high stages you should get hit much less overall (and also receive less damage). Since you take less damage when focused, you also have less chance to lose focus stages when getting hit. Remember to keep bashing to keep the creature's focus low. The higher body stamina you have the better / more viable it is to focus and stay in prolonged combat (you'll drain less stamina on block and focusing). 2:Distance(Too Far, Good,Close) influences now likely i will block? I never noticed significant differences from being too close or too far, other than maybe hitting more often a creature (possibly a placebo effect). 3:Does the way i position myself in PVE affects my block chance? (not counting pvp arrows) Having your toon's left side facing the creature will lay better results. If you want to block less and parry more with your weapon try to face your right side to the creature, you should be able to notice the difference (assuming you are using a high parry chance weapon like sword or maul). As rule of thumb, if possible, personally i keep the creatures on the left half side of the screen when i'm facing/fighting them. 4:Defensive stance.. says i should parry more, higher Defensive Stance levels will make me block more or it works just for weapons? I don't know the correlation with high defensive stance skill level, but it should help. When you get to super high fight skill levels and stats you can stay in aggressive stance and still block and parry most of creatures. 5:Most times i have a big streak of blocks then another streak of non-blocks at all, is it just me? It's possible, that's how % works. If you have a rough 30% block for example you could have a streak of blocks and then a streak of not blocking anything. Try to face your left side (the shield side) toward the creature. For better block chance start with easier creatures, like roosters pigs.. then work your way toward horses, wolves as your block improves and gradually up. As a side note, getting injured, especially on the arms/hands should decrease your chances to parry or block. 6:(very important)What does the QL on my shield actually do? More block chance, reduce more player-received DMG or only equipment DMG? what QL should i have my shield and why? The shield quality should help you block more and makes the shield more durable to damage/battering. Can help at the beginning, when you get very high skill you can overcompensate and still block fairly reliably with poor quality shields. 7*:Someone explain in detail about time limit of training per mob/location in detail? I don't know that specific, but it has been answered in posts above. 8:Bigger damage Blocked(Stronger than my FS animals) will influence the much exp i get in shields/Large shield exp tick when it succeed? Is it even reliable try to train that way? I've never paid attention to that. Shield bash provides a shield skill tick as well so you may want to use these when they are available. I would avoid fighting trolls as they tend to damage heavily your shield (so on the long run more repairs and puts the shield out of commission faster), but someone else suggested otherwise. Up to you on how you want to proceed. 9:More levels of Large Metal Shield will increase my block chance more than level of "Shields"? or both are of same importance? I don't know the specific of the general "shields" skill, but it has been answered above. The individual shield skill (small, medium or large) seemed to play the major role in affecting the block chance. I *believe* Body Control stat also plays a role for dodge/parry/block. 10:When i fight with a sword, will the sword parries eat my chance to block when the shield block chance would trigger? It shouldn't eat your chance to shield block because, sword parry should occur only after failing a block check (assuming you had the shield equipped and facing toward the creature). If sword parry also fails the check it will attempt to dodge the creature, then if that also fails you'll get hit. 11:In Future when i get higher Large Metal Shield levels in, should i level other shields to increase over all Shields level and block "more" when i come back to main shield? That's a personal preference if you want to level up other shield types i guess.. most players tend to stick with Large Metal Shield. Considering how slow it can get to level up the skill it would perhaps be best to focus on improving one specific type you know you are gonna use constantly, rather than spreading the skillgain among the types. Personally i use small wood shield or medium wood at times since i play mostly PvE and it's easier to chop a nearby tree and improve wood items on the spot rather than heating the metal and shield. 12:How do my Combat Rating influence my blocking? in case of being up in a horse. is it better or worse for the training? I haven't noticed a big difference, i think you actually block better from horse. Overall i think it's better to be on horse so you don't stumble in stamina problems and become unable to move. With an horse you can sprint away in such case. 13:What about Shield Bashing levels? i know it might works better on players higher levels, but does it increase stun timer for PVE animals too? (ps: i always shield bash when possible) Shield bash should provide a shield skill tick when you land it on a creature. I don't know anything about the stun timer. 14:How exactly stunning a mob help? stop maybe a special attack? lower their focus level? do they still keep hitting? Shield bash decrease the creature's focus when it lands (they tend to focus up as well in prolonged fights). A focused creature becomes harder to hit and possibly becomes harder to land bashes if you let it focus too much. Also they may become better at hitting you so keep that in mind. 14²:on higher levels on shields should i stop using Shield Bash so the animal can hit me more, letting me have more chances trying to block? That's up to you i guess.. considering that shield bash is a slow skill to level up to high levels and doesn't land very reliably on creatures such as dragons until very high levels i'd keep trying to improve it among with the other combat related skills.
  7. I think fishing used to be the afk skill for excellence when players wanted to still have their toon do something in game while being busy. With the update it's not afk anymore but i suppose it's not such a big deal. Used to practice it for skillgain, soul depth gain, to get some food without having to actively hunt in the wild, or slowly increase taming/cooking/butchering by fileting the fish and giving it to a nearby pet (yes there are better ways, this was a slow semi passive method). Since 1.9 hit WU i went to try spear fishing from a dock. Upgraded the willow fishing rod but can't use it as it needs more components. I think i'll stick with spear for when i need something quick to eat and perhaps try the fishing nets, as i've read they can provide good results when used properly. Now at least for the spear fishing part: looked a bit buggy, i've seen fish swimming through terrain (coming from the sand mountain part behind me instead that from the water) or swimming toward the terrain, clipping and disappearing. Managed to catch a couple by swinging at the sand at my feet . Seems like you can manage to catch one each minute or less if you are good at spotting them quickly and practice the aim. Sometimes the fish is too small and will not add to inventory. The skill gain felt relatively low compared to before, where you could afk queue with a good CoC rod and raise the skill relatively easily, but will have to stick to it for more time and perhaps the method i used was the least effective for gaining skill. I don't think i'll try the fishing rods as they need more components and i'm not aware if you get anything out of it for putting them together. Perhaps some special fish/ingredient or access to some feature that i'm not aware about? Otherwise will go at it as side hobby when have nothing else to do in game, just to try it out.
  8. Ingame i usually take insanity or love. But irl i'd root for knowledge. Knowledge is also a form of power per se imo, and with it also comes wisdom and understanding on a broader spectrum, as long as you internalize and reflect upon what is learned.
  9. Post made 3 hour ago? Maybe that adventurer was me that's a really nice white altar, i imagined it being a monastery with monks living on the mountain.
  10. Iirc you can tell by the color of the staff icon in the crafting recipe list that it's metal (it's a grey staff icon), while the long spear has a wooden (brown) staff. Of course it's not very obvious, and generally players find out by crafting the items how they turn out. For example for me, the first time it took a couple of tries to figure out how to make an oak spear (which is a different weapon than the metal spear) and an iron one (back at the time you needed a steel staff and an iron tip for that) Some players that i've spoken to were also not aware that there are 2 types of spears in game, but with different stats aswell having the same name so that sounds confusing (spear and long spear).
  11. I have to agree on this one, at first glance that weapon would do the work of what 6-8 "average" fighters would be able to do. There are two main problems with those high enchant, first they render a dedicated channeler "obsolete" because even with 99-100 channeling i don't find it would be possible to compete with such values. Second, 300-400 enchant is just too much, the pve content (uniques like dragons etc) is not balanced for these enchants imo. Only a 300+FA is like 3 weapons in 1, and that's without keeping count of all the other enchants on it. They are good for a server where players develop to freely roam and enjoy soloing dragons and other uniques. Otherwise they kill group slayings and other events. In PvP scenario.. let's not even get started. But i'm not that much of a PvPer so not gonna say much about it. It is certainly fun for the players wielding them, to reach new limits no doubt. But it comes with some problems and having such a potent arsenal doesn't promote group effort. Some time ago pets were nerfed with the Bloodlust mechanic (uniques enrage when they hit tamed pets) so people stopped altogether bringing them over unique fights for tanking and extra damage, the reason being to encourage actual players to group up for the slaying instead of relying on their pets (so also byebye to battle pets breeding as hobby). But weapons with enchants able to do 8x the job of a player doesn't seem to encourage very much group effort either . All this aside, we'll see what happens when this new "hunting" map and new "content" will get released.
  12. Have you always hated the slowness of the combat in Wurm, the weapons contantly bouncing off monsters or armor, the rng involved, the semi-afk slow pace of a fight or constantly missing with your weapon of choice? With this combat system rework everything is faster, every swing counts. Your weapon won't miss as much after having properly trained on it. A situation can turn very bad pretty fast. Deaths are likely to happen. This is your chance to experience a different type of wurm combat, come join us and don't forget to leave your feedback on Discord or to Sindusk!
  13. For me it's the medieval setting, the ever-changing world and the amount of skills and things you can do. One day you can be a farmer, the other you can be a smith, or a miner, or an hunter, or a traveler... or a sailor etc etc etc.
  14. At times, to take a break from PvE I get in PvP areas and try to not get killed and avoid fights but it is always (this is on Unlimited server, not WO), to learn about the place, spice things up and perhaps bump into some abandoned gear or items. Mostly it's avoid hostiles or fight if it comes down to that, usually alone or occasionally in a very small group. But this way of playing doesn't reflect how generally PvP in wurm is being played. However, Wurm being a game that gives you the freedom to choose as a sandbox, why fight someone if i don't have to? In this game a clash situation ends with one of the players losing their stuff, skill, affinity and respawn somewhere away and potentially make them waste hours and resources to get a new supply of items and travel. From my experience in the few encounters i had in PvP areas, i figure players with working brain cells would avoid fighting if not needed, for the best interest of both. Sometimes it's just someone who doesn't say a word and wants to chop your head off for the sake of it, in such case so be it and fight for your life. I don't understand the point of PvP in this type of game, there is no ending to it, no Team A vs Team B, even the guy next to you could backstab and betray you at any point (unless its a known trusted friend), no match with a clear objective, it is a neverending conflict. I wouldn't play full time PvP due to how the game, the combat system, and other factors are by design (takes time to make everything, build, travel, replenish gear after a death, build your skills, meditation, archery... then the not really PvP but more like Toon vs Toon/gear vs gear feeling with rng from hit and glance rates that i have when playing this type of games, i could go on for pages, but let's stop at that). After all this talk perhaps it boils down to the game as a full PvP version not being all that fun for me All other impressions and thoughts i have about it are not gonna help much.
  15. If i find a community generally unpleasant and toxic i'm not interested in sticking with the game for too long, i find it a waste of time and energy to stay in such environment either if it is pve or pvp. Part of reason of why i tried FF14 (which is mostly pve) and didn't like it along other reasons is exactly that i didn't like the overall community. You can have some fun with certain pvp games while on others you always finish the game more irritated than when you started, in such case that's a no for me.
