  2. The problem is the link in the main post goes directly to only listing the christmas mod which is not very helpful to the newcomer who then has to try to figure out githubs weird interface and go to /Releases.

This was made apparent to me when others showed the link https://github.com/ago1024/WurmServerModLauncher/releases

And the link that is featured in the main post goes to /releases/tag/version number which doesn't show any of the properties files for the mods or their downloads, it only shows the christmas mod!

    https://github.com/ago1024/WurmServerModLauncher/releases/tag/v0.21.1

The 'releases' link should be used and yes I agree with the aforementioned, leaving the properties files out of the initial modlauncher download is beneficial for saving preconfigured files. Just this small confusion is what has many people pulling hairs.

In Highthborne, you don't have to grind skills to make what you want, you can purchase it from the empire! You also don't have to make anything at all, you can serve a role such as Pathfinder and get paid easy, good coin.

There are also public houses that you can purchase or rent for cheap, so in Highthborne, you don't even have to build your own house if you don't want to, you can buy a large one for a couple of silver! (and people have been finding silver just from mining/foraging)

There is no reason not to see what these lands have to offer for you, we even removed those terrible fog spiders from our midst! Come find a relaxing vista to view the world from in the mountains of ~!Highthborne.

Strange map - impossible to travel by ship from inner see to outer see or vice versa?

Not as players dig out the land bridges. I create Marble bridges and their ships can go under. Players just have to actually create the canals. The lore explains why the map is why it is, you should also see Anthion it is different and may be more your style. Anyway, "impossible" isn't a word in my vocabulary that I use when in a sandbox game, I use that word when I consider trying to rationalize with a politician... now THAT'S impossible!

My players do not have any problems as it is now. If yours are freezing to death during summer in a mine, there may be a problem with the server.

Oh yeah of course, attack my server. Go figure the forum is full of jealous trolls.

That's okay too though, takes all kinds. Have a good day in Sweden! Haha.

By attacking me, you are just as guilty of derailing the thread as I am by defending myself; which I must do.

@TalorMaybe, as all things deserve balance and two sides, there should be a subtle mode since there is a hard mode. Something with no warnings flashing on the screen and a lesser effect overall. Also, the blood splattering as dmg ticks really needs to be removed. While you're freezing to death, you aren't being mutilated by some phantom sword so it needs to be cleaned up and these are justified and constructive criticisms and the other server admins? Great... have an opinion, it is a waste of a post.

On Mystic Highlands in Winter, if our players are going mining, they put several kindling on their carts, several peat or full logs and away they go, quite fine and warm while mining.

You know you can push a campfire right ? ;)

    Valiance

Thanks for your attempt at being condescending, it failed miserably (of course, typical).

But no worries. I merely described my players experience, I'm a GM as well so I too experience nothing and yes I pushed campfires before you ever knew what wurm was, I'm sure.

Maybe it works well on your server and everyone on yours understands (who cares) but my players are experiencing something different and it is of no concern to you, it is of concern to the mod dev so bugger off.

There are many caveats with installing this on a live server and security should definitely be one of your concerns, as is the case when you host *anything* on this lovely network we call Internet.

MySQL is not the first DBMS I will go to, but why would you have your MySQL server listening on a public interface? Over the last few decades I don't think I've *ever* had a MySQL server listening on a fully public interface. Bind it to loopback and it's as local as any other files on your filesystem.

Or do you mean that you have to have the login and password stored unencrypted so that your game can communicate with MySQL?

But yes, think of security folks! :)

Some people host their own servers for others, which means that MySQL needs to be remotely accessible for others to access with their username and edit their databases for their forums/chats/etc.

But yes, generally a local server should stay on local interface.

I just released an update with the following changes:

    • Using the 'taste' option on water tiles will say the water tastes bad.
    • Changed 'contracted disease' message to be the type that flashes up on the screen

(I've held off on the proposed change to mines for now, as the arguments against were convincing)

    Not even remotely convincing.

The fact is that underground is warmer than above ground, there is no argument against that!

If you don't want to be realistic with your survival mod then I'm going to remove it, because as it stands, my players can't play without constantly being harassed by your mod. If there is no balance to this nagging, there is no need to use it as it doesn't increase immersion it erases it completely. Now instead of helping people I have to deal with people complaining that they are cold for what appears to be absolutely no reason. It isn't winter and it is barely drizzling rain but they are dying like its a blizzard. Hard mode is not on and I'm turning newbie protection on because its ridiculous. Anyone who thinks this is great as is, isn't paying attention (or may not even be using it! GM's can't give feedback because they are unaffected by this mod!). Instead of catering posts that are seemingly nonsense, you should just add the option for mines. Why not?

  9. 1 hour ago, Talor said:

I'll make it so if you use the 'taste' action, it will tell you that the water tastes bad and might need boiling. The game doesn't have a way to distinguish between sea and lakes, so it will have to be the same message for both.

I hadn't thought of this. It makes sense that if you're deep in a cave system that the temperature would be quite mild, but if you are only just inside the cave then you wouldn't get the same protection. How about if I have it check for a cave opening within 10 tiles of the player, if there is no cave opening, then they'll have a much more mild temperature? But if there is a cave opening, then it functions the same as it does now, because the cold air can easily come inside?

These both sounds like great additions.

Just released another update with a new water disease mechanic:

    • Drinking sea/lake water may give you disease status
    • Boiling water removes this risk
    • Water from wells & fountains is still safe
    • This mechanic can be enabled or disabled in the .properties file

(This is the same disease status that you get from standing on tiles with lots of creatures)

Players on my server mentioned that, if you are to change the water, you should change what it says when you examine it because it still says it tastes fresh and I agree with them. With such a fundamental change (use to be able to drink anywhere, now players must be careful about drinking anywhere), there needs to be more information for the client. Is it possible to change waters examination description to reflect its ability to make you sick if it can do so? "This water tastes stagnant" for lake water with no rivers and for ocean it can be "This water is too salty to drink".

Something happened with the OP's main post that basically sends people on a wild goose chase, downloading a .zip that doesn't have all of the files for the modloader to work properly. I only managed to get it to work when I downloaded from the link you provided.

I also noticed that the mods provided with the server modloader don't come with .properties files and you have to find the contents on the github and create them. Why is this? What's the point of making people go to this degree? Just wondering what OP was thinking or if they even know how bjorked the situation is right now with their thread.

Currently wondering where to get CropMod and SeasonMod properties file contents, if anyone wants to share, I'd appreciate it! Not even sure I want to use them, just wanted to know where the properties files were and why they aren't on github (and why the only one that is, is the serverpacks properties file) or why they weren't provided with this zip. Really doesn't make very much sense at all unless the jars generate them and I did not have that experience.

Archery. Lining up catapults. Knowing tile distances.

So it's a simple matter of knowing when someone is shooting further than they actually can, and then promptly banning them from server for use of your terrible mods.

Anyone who cheats in online, multiplayer games ... may convince themselves they are winning the game, but they are losing IRL! Just like the kids who pay their way through college and pay others to write their essays and do their work and when they get that job for that degree they paid for (instead of earned), they can't do it and their lives fail miserably! Oh well, guess that's just the way of the world...and the human species. Take the easiest path, right off a cliff.

I've already looked up the list of each vein colours in the mine, via source code, but could you create a legend for each colour of the veins, if possible?

    Thanks.

You can learn the colors by using Mapviewer (which you can then actually toggle which ores you want to view) but I know how much people want this so I will assist:

Caves (Peach colored), Lava (Idk what color it is, my maps show none), Iron, Gold, Zinc, Marble, Slate, Lead, Copper, Tin, Silver, Adamantine, Glimmersteel

    7qvHW5i.png

    You're welcome.

  14. Interesting, but I'd rather keep my important world files server-side and not accessible by brute-forcers.

The weakest part of MySQL is its username and password being stored in plain text. If someone really wanted to, they could ruin your day and your wurm world.

Not with Sqlite -- Still nice to see the expansion of capabilities though, I'm sure lots of nifty things could be done with this. I have a MySQL server and know how to use it, but don't find myself needing this at the moment.

    Good work.

  15. 3 hours ago, Talor said:

Currently this mod is quite 'non-invasive'. While it would be possible add a new database field for temperature and save this at logout and load it at login, this seems like asking for trouble. If the code is not completely watertight, it might lead to more serious exploits.

How about this as an imperfect but maybe workable solution:

When you log in, your starting temperature would be based on how warm or cold it is. For example, if you log on when you are 'rapidly getting colder', you would be very cold. If you log in when you are 'getting warmer', you would log in warm or very warm.

    How does that sound?

    Sounds fine.

  16. Many people would appreciate if somebody, anybody can look into a server mod that would allow properties file global bush height limitation options so we can finally control these lavender plants a stage short of their mess.

Alternatively, there could be an option in the properties that could individually scale each bush by percentage. Reducing the scale of lavender bushes at that messy stage, simply by 30% or 40% would make them much more appeasing to many.

Thank you for your consideration! I would like to use it on my server.

  17. If this is installed on a mod loader server it will crash the game in the most recent version.

The error I saw was related to a brown cow hitched to a tent and someone would kill a random brown cow and it would crash the game. It's the only mod that could be related.

  18. It would be nice if there could be an optional setting in properties that would allow the complete removal of fog spider spawns for those who desire it.

I played WO back in the day when we had no such thing as fog spiders and I prefer it that way. :)

  19. The creature count and aggressive percentage have been increased dramatically.

    From 10k to 30k and from 35% to 74%!

    Enjoy!

  20. This list of mods conflicts somehow causing a crash when a player would kill a brown cow (but not a sheep?): DisableFogSpider, BetterDigging, FishingIgnoresRange, TreasureChestClaim, Harvesting QL limit, Movetocenter, ServerPlayerCounter, Dupe Auth Fix (Servertweaks), Timerfix, Upkeepcosts, HitchingPost, Temperature Survival.

I think it might be hitching post mod, I am still testing. I initially thought it might be the server tweaks/player count mods conflicting until I saw the error upon server start. Was something about missing item for hitched brown cow (thus hitching post mod, which isn't ago mod loader approved so go figure?). When a player would kill a brown cow, the whole server would crash out. Anyone mind diving in and possibly giving a more technical explanation?
