  1. You might want to post this in the appropriate forum - the Technical Difficulties/Server forum
  2. Running your own server can be as easy as just clicking the Manage Server button when you first start the client. This brings up the server manager window and you configure the server. Choose from Adventure (3 kingdoms with their starter towns, some things to find across the map, and some missions) or Creative (blank slate, no kingdoms, missions or NPCs). Give the server a name, modify the settings if you want something other than the default, and start it. Or you can get the dedicated server from Steam (its free) and run that version instead. When you start that you get the same server manager window, so configuring it is the same. It does load in a different directory from the client (and the "client" version of server). But the dedicated server can be run on a different PC if you have one. Unless you configure your router to open the required ports needed for Steam and server to communicate only you will be able to see the server running on your local machine. If you do configure the needed ports then others can also see your server. If you want to limit access to just you and people you choose just set a password and only give it those you want.
  3. Now all you need is the ability to effectively add a guard tower to your wagon or ship so you have npc guards to protect your caravan
  4. Sounds like a good idea. Then maybe you can just assume that a large ship would already have beds or bunks to sleep on.
  5. I agree, but currently the mod won't rename animals that have already been named. EDIT: Actually looking at the source for the mod I see where it disallows using the name tag on an already named animal and it looks like it would be simple to allow renaming. To change it yourself would mean you'd have to recompile the mod. Ideally this should be another option - to allow renaming.
  6. Well it will give you the ability to add names to the random horse names by adding them to the names.txt file and turning off naming tag. You can either add to the existing horse names or replace them completely. So it does give you something you don't have without it. With the naming tag you can either give an entered name (subject to the quality of the naming tag as far as name length though the naming tag also lets you cycle through random male or female names to pick one you like as well).
  7. There is essentially 2 ways to use this mod. You can modify the list of names the game automatically assigns to your horse offspring, either adding to the default list of names in the game, or replacing the default list entirely by your own. This way only names horses, nothing else. The other way which was added was to allow you to create a naming tag which you can use to name horses and cows/bulls. You can either carve your desired name into the tag, or generate random names (using the modified names list) until you find one you like. If you have the naming tag enabled then the game won't automatically assign names to your horse offspring. But the tag does let you name cows and bulls (never actually used it that way myself).
  8. Since you can build a fire inside a mine just melt the ore to lumps and then carry those out - they are much lighter. If you can only carry 2 rocks or ores then you are already carrying too much stuff. Make some containers to store stuff, make a cart to haul stuff. Once you find that first iron vein, and make some lumps there, make the anvil then make nails you need for a cart. Maybe make some more nails or ribbons you need for making some storage containers as well.
  9. Be careful about loading the beta as you may not be able to connect to other servers which haven't installed it yet. The reason the patch was done as a "beta" is because it breaks some of the mods too.
  10. The offspring names mod now let's you make a naming tag to give names to horses and cows/bulls. It also gives you the option to add or replace the normal default horse offspring names as well.
  11. It would also help to know if you are using any mods, since some things change.
  12. You can ride a horse. Just use your rope you start with to lead any wild horse then ride. Faster than walking. Well as you gain skill you get additional options - special attacks and defenses, based on weapon. Admittedly the RNG does seem off from the percentages given in the crafting window. Well it is more realistic than having what amounts to a GPS with a marker. And maps aren't always accurate in real life, especially if you are not talking about the modern world. Some games don't even have a map. Of course they could make it playable without requiring Steam at all, but a lot of games on Steam now use their authentication to prevent piracy. You only need to be connected to validate the client, then you don't need to keep the internet connection (say if you are using a dialup or tethered to a mobile device). In the past I have played games that required me to have my original disk to play, or had to answer a question from looking at some paper that came with a game (usually very hard to read because they were designed to not be copy-able back then). So compared to those I don't mind. Still I can understand where some people might want to play when they don't have any internet connection.
  13. IIRC there is a mod that is supposed to remove inventory weight limits for GMs so this should be doable (assuming that mod works properly, and I haven't tried it.) I don't know about the number of items limit as these could be hard coded or have other issues f changed. A way around the number of items is to use containers to hold stuff. For example, with a cart, wagon, ship people will often load a few rafts or crates on then store stuff in those. For example, large cart with 5 rafts will let you put 40 rock shards in each, plus more in the cart itself (depending on what other stuff is there). That's 200 shards in the rafts.
  14. This is actually the level 12 "Recall Home" from following one of the Paths. To follow a path you need to meditate one of the special tiles you find or create for the particular Path. Check the Wurmpedia for more info: http://www.wurmpedia.com/index.php/Meditate PS It will take a long time to get to level 12 in a Path - over 190 real days!
  15. You want to get the Wurm Unlimited Dedicated Server from Steam, install it, and then run that one. If you want others to see it over the internet you will need to make sure you configure your router to forward the appropriate ports to your local computer. Search the forum for dedicated server and you should find setup info for what ports are needed. The particular method of configuring the router though will depend on the type of router you have. If you are just playing solo then you should be able to just connect via the LAN tab and not have to deal with the ports. Then you just leave the server running when you log off the computer.
  16. 1. By default spirit templars will attack any normally hostile creature on your deed. Either summon and keep it outside the settlement, or you can set the templars to not attack aggressive creatures (that will stop them from attacking ALL aggressive creatures. 2. The in game chat will only talk to players on your server. People running their own servers have their own chat. Now it is possible to link servers, then maybe you can chat across servers. So unless you play on one of the private servers someone else is running, or get more people to play on yours, there won't be people to chat with. 3. When you first start playing a new character you get some buffs for the first 24 hours of play time. If you get debuffs they also show up there. Not sure about those debuffs, but they probably will go away on their own after a while. Hover the mouse pointer over them and it will probably say how long. 4. They will in time, but if you are starting the server using your client then it isn't running when you shut down, and therefore time stops. You could get the dedicated server version off steam and leave it running. Or join one of the other private dedicated servers which are running all the time. You could also change the timers for animals and crops. 5. Similar to 4. Seasons won't change while server isn't running. 6. SHould be answered by 4 and 5.
  17. There is already a dedicated server you can download from steam that does not need a license to run it (just the client does). And it has the same server manager interface that the managed server from the client uses.
  18. Actually you don't need to get the dedicated server code from steam just to play solo (or even have a couple friends join you). You can start up a version of the server directly from the client (use Manage Server button when you first start client).
  19. I can see using a bed on board the larger ships or maybe a wagon, but don't know about the smaller boats or carts.
  20. Love to see your list of names. I found some horse names on a website (lost link or I'd include it here) but always open for more names...
  21. I like the nametag idea, but would love to see it extended to more than just horses and cows/bulls. I want to rename my pet dog, for example. It would also be handy to be able to name other animals I breed like sheep and pigs. Right now on my own server I am changing the names in the database, but its a real pain to do it that way. But I do know that if the names of those other animals are changed they show up in game, so perhaps modifying the mod to rename those too might not be too hard. Also, with the name tag you can choose a random male or female name but not a generic. And if I understand correctly those are only the normal game names, and not the added ones. It would be really nice to still have the names.txt names available for the nametag letting one pick from their list of names. (One really odd thing I notice is that horse names begin with capital letters, but for other animals it is always lowercase regardless of what is in the database. I think it rather odd that they would convert a name to lowercase for all but horses. Wonder what the devs were thinking when they did that...)
  22. Strafe Mod (keybinds)

That option will make you turn with your mounts, but doesn't do what I wanted. I just want to turn the same way when mounted as when I am not, but you have to turn mounts with the strafe keys and not the movement keys. It doesn't make sense to me, but at least the keybind workaround I posted above works for me as long as I remember to press the key to swap the keybinds when I embark or disembark.
  23. And in order for someone to access your steam account from another computer, steam will request verification via your email with a code to enable access via that computer. Choosing 2 different passwords for steam and email should provide a good level of protection.
  24. You should start with a deed stake. I believe that was supposed to include the funds for the initial small settlement and some upkeep (so says the description anyway). Once you have the token you can sell some stuff to it for iron coins (1 for every 10 quality of item). You can sell most stuff, even stuff you forage, mixed grass, etc. If you are just playing solo you can always configure upkeep costs off which should be the default anyway.
