  1. No, he is correct. In fact there are far more organic connections in your brain and body than there are in the most advanced computers. This results in a huge array of possibilities especially in how our senses are effected. Since we are an electrochemical machine there are no screws to adjust and mucking about with chemicals is never a good thing. LSD anyone?
  2. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Would increasing the field of view necessitate an adjustment in the scale of what is being viewed? In other words, everything would be smaller yes? This subject is one of great interest for governments since the worlds militarys are using video simulations at an increasing rate. Since some people do have a problem with subject matter displayed on a screen they need a way to ensure those people can take part in the simulations. It wouldn't do to have a promising officer unable to conduct training because he pukes every time he spends ten minutes at the simulation. I imagine there is a problem with Heads Up Displays also not to mention aircraft/pilot integration through the use of specialized helmets. So this is not a trivial subject.
  3. Just as in other wooded lands a dirt or moss filling between logs should be required. Moss tends to be more weather resistant but dirt mixed with grass is a fair substitute. Wood shingles do a fair job of keeping the rain out but the shingles need to be kept in place with either rocks or branches. Peat works when it's put on the shingles to help keep the weather out and the shingles in place. Pegs are needed to hold things other than the walls together. The logs are heavy and hold together quite well without help. Notches and joints hold the whole thing together. Trappers sometimes dig down a meter or more and then build the log cabin up from there. Not so many logs required and it stays warmer. These things are very labor intensive but in an area without other building materials this is the way to go. Perhaps decay the walls as fast as a tent without any repair possible?
  4. Exactly how much protection does a tent provide? Zero. You might as well hide in a paper sack. As for leaving a starter town loaded down with 'stuff'. How fast can a loaded down noob run compared to, say a hell hound or a spider? Not very practical if you are headed to out into the wilderness. Even a noob who has spent time in a village will still encounter the same things unless he LIVES in the village for a very long time. All the OP said was how practical it would be to use the inexhaustible supply of wood to make a wood house. As has been pointed out, you can build a huge ship without using a single piece of metal. Why can't a house be made the same way just for some protection against mobs? I've not seen one logical argument to that question. I've seen many of the tired old answers from veteran players but nothing that is useful re housing. BTW, the Easy Button rhetoric from Marlon is proof of just how disconnected many are from noobishness. For a noob it is very time consuming cutting down trees. I'm sure it would be equally time consuming to build a log house with them. It would definitely not be the easy button garbage spouted by him/her/it. Oh, and then there is the 'tone' comment. Arrogance abounds.
  5. Perhaps all of the developers tried their hand at milking Buffalo and found it to be not as they expected. Could get well soon cards be needed to speed the mending of their broken bodies?
  6. Thank you for telling us we can only milk female bison/sheep. Attempting to milk a male anything would be futile and could be life ending.
  7. This is not about highways at all. It's about someone being able to grief your deed unless the tile they want to grief is a part of a 'highway'. If you paved your entire perimeter and called it a highway and it fit the 'rules' no one could touch it. Take away the bricks and it's fair game. If Audrel bothered to create a wonderful tree farm in the perimeter and fenced it in, any player could tear down the fence, chop down all the trees and leave them lying about without suffering any consequences. Even if that griefer had previously passed one million uncared for trees. But if Audrel built a highway that went where ever that highway would be untouchable. It would exist forever, even if parts of it were moved a bit. It could meander all of the way across the lenght and breadth of Xanadu. It's the hypocrisy of things that is annoying, not the highway rule itself. "For the greater good" is a copout. "Whatever is easy" is a more fitting phrase.
  8. The fog and snow tonight reminded me of an old science fiction movie that has enormous crawling eyes that move about in a cold fog. Maybe we can have some of those to spice up the foggy winter weather. What other creepy crawlers could we have maiming and beheading people in the fog?
  9. For me it isn't keeping the horses in line. It's the constant pounding my bum takes. Unless you have one of the new fangled carts with springs under the seat. Even those are no help for long hauls. The wagons and carts in WURM have no springs so the pounding would surely wear on you.
  10. Ah, buried, never to be seen again. Good job, good job. This thread should be here too. But no, you have no personal interest in it. http://forum.wurmonline.com/index.php?/topic/127900-tree-growth-stages/
  11. @Arronicus: If you would like to pay me for using up my paid subscription to research this let me know. We can handle it through Paypal.
  12. No research. Do you farm? My farming is at 73. I get 5 minimum with no crop tending. At 60 I could get as much as 9 with crop tending. Most often 6 to 8. I don't care if people are misled. Just saying.
  13. Please remove the yields secton of farming on the wiki. It is horribly wrong. Also, livestock grazing crops increases yield???? Really? On what planet?
  14. Down with Crudism.
  15. Good thing we are not Romans, Aztecs, Greeks, Egyptians, Celts, Mayans, Incas or any number of civilizations that had a multitude of gods. We only have to deal with a handful. On the bright side, you don't even have to bother with them in WURM. I don't, I simply ignore them.
  16. LMFAO. Who is talking to you? I was talking about the person who put the plastic across the pet door and thought it was funny. Do you have a persecution complex? BTW, that is on topic. It's about cats. I have four. The oldest is 20 years old. I don't abuse them.
  17. Peas and loaves. Yes, I'll pick them up on the way home.
  18. You do realize that you will be reincarnated as a cat with a cruel master don't you? It doesn't matter if you don't believe in reincarnation, it just matters that reincarnation believes in you.
  19. Only reason I use a large wooden paper weight is because I found it with bits and pieces of armor lying about. Otherwise I wouldn't even have one.
  20. With the current system this would not be possible. The slope of the ground would prohibit the ground from meeting the wall at the tile border at the top of the retaining wall. A special tile would have to be made on the tile that the retaining wall sets against. Perhaps make the tile behind the retaining wall part of the building process. This tile would have to have no slope as though it were a building to eliminate any chance that characters would slide down between the tile and the retaining wall yet meet all adjacent dirt tiles as though it were a dirt tile plus have all of the properties of a dirt tile. The amount of coding required for this would be huge. Then there are the bugs this would introduce plus allowing walls and or fences to be made upon the retaining wall. In all likelihood, with the current system, you would have animals puling carts or carrying people diving down when they crossed the border between a regular tile and this special tile as you currently do with bridges.
  21. When this huge project is finally done you will log on to WURM, look around and then say, 'What to do, what to do?' .
  22. Taking it off is easy. Putting it back on? Well...
  23. Where do you park your car? Mine's getting a bit worn out. I can use a back up.
