  1. If these are indeed the maps that will appear in WU then I don't like the huge amount of wasted space taken up by water surrounding the maps. There is far more water than land. It is most fortunate that we will be able to make our own maps. Then everyone will be happy with what they play on. As maps to be used to test WU upon release they will suffice.
  2. Aye, and there's the rub. Even if you have a server running a game only for yourself it still has to be running. I don't know of a lot of people who keep their machines running 24/7. And even if they did the hit on performance to maintain a game world would be noticeable unless there were next to zero objects to keep track of. However, a full blown game world with tens of thousands of trees, mobs, crops, items, buildings, etc. would cause your machine to work full time time ticking and tocking the passage of time on each and every thing. Even if you were not playing the game, running it in the background would cause your processor to continually process, you hard drive to continually drive, your memory to continually...er, memorize. If you run it in the background 24/7 then time stands still for no man. Personally I would rather adjust the passage of time each time I started playing a solo game and save myself the overhead.
  3. What this implies is that if you are a small game developer you do not want to advertise because it will provide less revenue. So, according to Willis, Rolf is on the right track by not advertising thereby increasing his player base. Willis is obviously a citizen of Bizarro World.
  4. The ability to adjust the passage of time is more important than decay rates because it directly affects decay rates. Not only does it affect decay, it also affects maturation of crops, tree growth, animal age and a plethora of other game mechanics. In WURM Online we have no need to be concerned about these things. Time passes whether we are there to see it or not. But in a single player WURM Unlimited where the game world would stop and start the passage of time should be readily adjustable to allow for the players absence from the game world. Speeding up time to allow the game world to mature to compensate for the time the game is down is relatively important. Otherwise it would seem to take forever to grow that crop of wemp so you can produce rope to build your ships. Yes, you could magically create some rope or possibly even a ship. But where is the fun in that?
  5. If you play on Xanadu do not settle of the sea coast. Instead go to one of the inland lakes. They are very large, more like inland seas. There is more than ample room along the shores of these lakes. There are even places where deeds have been abandoned but the guard towers are still there.
  6. These and a host of other questions concerning day to day mechanics in the game that we take for granted need some clarification. Someone said we could adjust the passage of time. Will that adjustment be obvious for us to make? Can we adjust decay and will that also be obvious? Will there be a UI that makes the generic game functions visible to us to change? All of these are taken for granted by us as players in WURM. Now we are to control these things. Will all of this have to be modded? My concern is that the learning curve to make even a single player instance of WU work properly in a single player environment will be steep indeed. So far only vague references and we are only 11 days from launch.
  7. WURMian dragons are so lame. They've been kicked out of the League of Dragons, denied flying privileges and had their membership cards confiscated and chopped up.
  8. Agreed. Either support the rules or delete the rules. Anything else is lame. Now, on with the show.
  9. Like the topic title says. We can now have tropical islands. This is long past due.
  10. I am assuming we can set our own climate in WU. If this is true then can we now have palm trees so we can make our private servers tropical instead of having a somewhat northern climate? I realize that we could do this on our own but very few of us is an artist.
  11. Terribly sorry, I have no boat at all. I rely on others for that mode of transport. As for permissions, unless you have your head under a rock or your head is a rock how could you miss it?
  12. I have none. But a friend, MacGregor, has a sailboat he bought long ago from Weedwarrior when they were on MR Home server. A year or two before there was an Independance. That is his most prized possession.
  13. But a roll back was asked for. You admit that yourself. It matters little what thread it was in. It was in the forum, that is all that matters. Furthermore, the notice we received and the one that I mentioned was not on the wiki. It was in the forums. And it was on the WURM launcher. If you bothered to read the news by clicking on the news header you would have seen it. Again, it was a fuzzy date which I said I did not think was a very good warning. But it was there. Sorry if you were somehow confused about anything I mentioned. I thought I had been very clear.
  14. If you have to ask then you can't afford it. I am afraid that the lack of information concerning the price may be a precursor to bad news. People will be allowed to make money by hosting their own servers. CC will want their piece of that pie. WURM Unlimited could very well cost $50 or more. Or it could cost $30 or less. If there is one thing you can say about Rolf it is that he is unpredictable. Some would say that is a synonym for crazy.
  15. Yes, they were. Click on the picture announcing the news and you will be directed to a news piece that gives the 'some time next week' date. I must admit that is not very exact and it may even say 'possibly' or 'should be' not definitely. However, if you drive down a road and come to a sign that says, 'Bridges May Be Slippery' do you ignore it because a definite date was not attached? Warning was given. Again, I agree, it should have been held back two or three days and a definite date given. It wasn't so we have to deal with it. It is not the end of the Earth. Code Club does seem to have a penchant for releasing changes without notification.
  16. I would have to agree with this, a fuzzy date was most definitely given. Something like, 'some time next week'. However, for some not even 24 hours would have been sufficient. We of Fangorn took the fuzzy date to mean some time next week and prepared for a release this week. I know some people are unable to come up with the wiggle room in their schedules to be flexible enough to allow for a fuzzy date. This does not mean a complete roll back is needed. A person asking for that ignores all of us who paid attention to the warning and prepared thus suffering injury from a roll back. We are not chopped liver.
  17. Over these past three weeks my monitor has turned red from all of the blood cried from the eyes of those who will not see. Everything is posted for you to read but no one bothers to. I guess it is much easier to whine once the deal is done than to read what the devs post and then think ahead. Nothing and no one is perfect. Post bugs and they will be fixed. A little patience is required.
  18. Yes, you did miss the patch notes. They have been publishing them for weeks.
  19. This is a great new system that adds a huge amount of flexibility. So far no problems. Thank you Tich for all of your hard work. Well done.
  20. As I drove my large cart through a gate I found myself thrown out. This has never happened to me before. Now I am given no option to board the large cart either as commanding nor as a passenger. Yet if I stand on the other side of the gate away from the cart I am given those options. This has happened on one gate so far. On another note, refreshing my health bar is taking forever and my large cart likes driving sideways. I assume this is because of a massive game wide changing of permissions.
  21. I know Clatius personally. He can be most trying. He is at his worse when he is correct in what he says and he knows that he is correct. That tends to piss people off, his friends included. If you wish I can knock on his door and punch him in the nose for you. He will still be a pain in the ass but maybe it will make you feel better.
  22. Thank you for the information Telurius. The Romans used heavily salted hard cheeses in their armies. This cheese was so heavily salted some examples that have been found are still edible although it is quite hard. It would be nice to enable players to prolong the life of meals by adding more salt, the amount of salt deciding how much damage was taken. It isn't going to happen but it would be nice.
  23. If Ayes should log on this week to find his deed surrounded by rock as far as the eye can see, it is not his fault. +1
  24. Please direct your attention to the Meal entry. http://www.wurmpedia.com/index.php/Meal To the bottom under 'Additional Notes'. Either this is entirely inaccurate or somebody needs to make some changes to how salted meals decay ingame. I thank you.
