  1. This is really stupid... I could go on a rant about how much java sucks also but nothing in your post shows anything directly related to a problem with java. #1 You don't have to install the java plugin for your web browser to run wurm. Just download the the wurmclient.jnlp and execute it with javaws. #2 Your first problem was installing the correct java version(Yes it doesn't use the "newest" version of java since java 8 was just released as a stable version only at the beginning of this year). I don't know what the term "slackbuilding" means but I assume it doesn't mean compiling because your using Oracle java which means just installing binary files and creating symlinks. I haven't used slackware but I am sure it has a package manager that should do all that for you if not you can manually do it and it should takes less than 5 minutes on a fast connection. #3 You said you installed the right version of java and then wurm crashed after you clicked play. That could mean anything since you provided zero information other than your version of java. It may have nothing to do with Java or Wurm and that is usually the case. Try executing the client in a terminal emulator and diagnose the problem yourself or post the errors here. Also if you search the forums there are more common issues for windows users and most of them are just because they installed the wrong version of java for their architecture or they just do not have the correct video drivers installed. Wurm works really well on linux even using the open source nouveau driver for nvidia cards which normally doesn't work for most games. I have even gotten wurm running from just installing tarballs using the LFS and BLFS guide book but it turns out you have to retire if you want to have enough time to maintain it xD.
  2. Did you install wurm into your /home/(name) directory? What happens when you click the wurm icon, does the wurm client load up? Did you try to delete your java cache, remove wurm folder, and then try again? Can you hit print screen when you have this problem and upload the picture to some place like http://tinypic.com/ and post the link? It should save a captured image of your screen to /home/(name) directory.
  3. You can download the driver from http://www.nvidia.com/object/unix.html and install it manually but it is very difficult to do and is not recommended for people new to Linux. Instead you can try this unofficial repository that should install the latest driver automatically: sudo apt-add-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install nvidia-current
  4. Go to terminal and type "nvidia-smi" and make sure you have the 331.49 driver installed. It should look something like this: ~$ nvidia-smi Wed Feb 26 19:12:06 2014 +------------------------------------------------------+ | NVIDIA-SMI 331.49 Driver Version: 331.49 | |-------------------------------+----------------------+----------------------+ | GPU Name Persistence-M| Bus-Id Disp.A | Volatile Uncorr. 5. Did you try this http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2181190&p=12823425#post12823425? If that doesn't work I think it is just best to install a Linux distro that uses an older kernel version so that you can install proprietary drivers instead of open source ones. Debian 7 stable uses Linux kernel version 3.2 and you can install Xfce so that it will look the same as Xubuntu. I personally prefer CrunchBang with its default Openbox desktop when it comes to Debian. ~$ uname -a Linux Debian 3.2.0-4-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.2.54-2 x86_64 GNU/LinuxUbuntu is based off of Debian so it would feel very similar and easy to transition to. Only other option would be to upgrade your hardware or just play Wurm on windows
  6. I wouldn't really recommend using OpenJDK for Wurm. See this http://forum.wurmonline.com/index.php?/topic/66368-installing-wurm-in-ubuntu-1204-linux/ to uninstall it and use Oracle JDK. Last time I used OpenJDK for Wurm it did not cache my client and I had to redownload it each time. I haven't notice any lose in performance from running Wurm in Windows vs Linux. But then again I have a Nvidia card and I have always heard that Nvidia's Linux drivers are better than AMD's Linux drivers. Linux has less bugs Linux is less resource intensive Nearly any Linux distribution is more stable than windows server Linux is more versatile Linux is more secure Most Linux distros are FREE!(Windows 8 is $100 and as far I know there is no free upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8) TBH I don't even have a need nor desire to use Windows unless it is a game or software that will not work on Linux. I had always been a Microsoft fanboy up until Windows Vista and was only passive toward them with Windows 7. Now I completely refuse to buy any product made by Microsoft until they release an OS that is at least comparable to Ubuntu or Arch Linux. ,
  7. Hmm... for me if I set GLSL shader support to disabled then it correctly displays the texture, but if I set GLSL support to core it goes back to being blank. Multidraw, vbo, fbo, etc are all set to core and don't seem to effect it.
  8. Noticed that this raging lava spider has a blank texture and I did not recall that prior to this latest client update... I would also like to report that I experienced a loss of FPS from always being capped at 30 to now dropping slightly below when outside of mines on java 7 45 and then after reading this, I figured out how to launch my client after the new update and it has seemed to fix the FPS issue but not the blank texture for that lava spider corpse.
