  1. Thing is the steamid's are supposedly visible even if the player is set to private in Steam - so they can be found and duped easily. There is only 1 way of limiting the damage, and it would only stop admin accounts being compromised. At present all WU servers could be compromised at any time. This needs a fix from the Wurm Dev's as soon as possible; they are aware just hope they are working on it as without it WU is useless multiplayer.
  2. Its due to someone has found an exploit that can hack any account in WU, and they decided to test it out on the highest population none Russian server. They recorded everything, but showing how to use the hack in this video - Edit: Also the person in question behind the hack has released something public today that the Wurm Dev's in question need to fix ASAP, even worse than this exploit - going to PM them direct as it shouldn't be public.
  3. Yeah 8mbps anything at all modern can cope with, very amateur DDos'er which is surprising given the info on how to do it is unfortunately widely available along with some of the tools being free.
  4. See the devs are now using a public beta via the beta tool in Steam (Wurm Right Click --> Properties --> Beta --> Select drop down) Wonder what the differences are.
  5. See - http://forum.wurmonline.com/index.php?/topic/133202-tree-growth-is-set-to-0-in-the-default-databases-and-is-not-able-to-be-configured-through-the-gui/ Simple fix and should have been patched days ago, along with the 4 hour file issue
  6. You applied the Tree Growth fix to your servers wurmlogin.db? (Something which should have been patched 3 days ago)
  7. Its enabled for all programs, not sure a developer can even turn it off as its often how you test builds with a small number of users (allows you to enter in a code to join the hidden builds). To get to the Beta tab for a game / program in Steam: Select the program in your Library --> Right Click on the game --> Select Properties --> Select Beta Tab. The top drop down box is the public betas or ones that you have entered the code for in the below box. As said Paradox uses this all the while to allow people to go back to old versions of their games.
  8. Its not. There is already the functionality that can do this in steam, its by using (well sort of misusing) the Beta tab. Paradox do this with all their games, they keep all previous versions available via the Beta tab so if you want to play a previous version of the game you just select it there and it will be the version your game stays at and wont upgrade.
  9. Deathrat has done the fix for it - http://forum.wurmonline.com/index.php?/topic/132626-dedicated-server-performance-information-thread/?p=1365436 https://gist.github.com/deathrat/95a8f7a959f547e23898 Just need a Dev to test it and patch the servers ASAP
  10. Its Windows where I am running it. Only seems to occur after 6+ hours of running, rough guess is there is some tidy up process that has got an issue and it gets stuck, wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't cause servers to crash after 24+ hours. Ramdisk is possibly the best way round it as MacrosBlackD says, but that will just alleviate the hard disk wear, won't really fix the issue.
  11. Yeah its one to watch. Restarted the server and it was all fine at around 0.3MB/s access but just an hour ago its jumped up to now doing over 30MB/s. Something is definitely wrong, as at present you really should be restarting servers every few hours to get round this.
  12. Been running a Wurm Server locally all night, and found something very interesting. Map is a 4096 with 50,000 animals Memory usage has stayed around 1GB (lot lower than I thought would be) CPU is now significant and is using almost 9% constant of a 4770K (8 thread CPU) But what's most interesting and also worrying is the Disk access - its now constantly doing 130MB per second access that's a LOT, and will wear out disks pretty quick. Surprised the DB isn't loading it into memory and then only updating the disk every 5 minutes as constantly updating the DB on the disk will really shorten the life of hard drives.
  13. Its when you don't select any faction. Encountered this bug myself and its something that needs to be fixed as its not a great start to the game to immediately be set upon by guards.
  14. Surely the rebuild-dbs.bat in the sqlite directory does all this for you. That seems to erase all contents out of all the DB's.
