  1. Two questions: Why is it that some undead die immediately upon being spawned? I'm looking at you Mr Skeleton and Mr Wraith! Why is it that Zombies seem to be aligned with Kingdom 4? How can I change my zombies from wanting to hug my residents and eat their brains instead? It's a bit hard to have a haunted castle when the haunters clearly don't want to cooperate.
  2. I take it the entry is "Cave Dwellings"?
  3. Can the paint terrain simply not work if your using a terrain not appropriate to the area? If the AUXDATA is an overland terrain it shouldn't work underground and vice-versa.
  4. Can you create (even as GM) doors in mines? I'm trying to restrict my dungeon creatures to specific locations, but they keep wandering off.
  5. Thanks to all those trying out the server. Some have ranged much further than I expected in such a short period of time. I'm slowly adding content as I go. The ancient haunted tower of Stonegate sits in silent watch high in the Serpent Spine range. Something begins to stir deep in the bowels of Dungeon Despise (and it's not last night's curry). Goblins are getting wrestless on Skara Brae island with all this new movement about. The souls of the dead have begin to stir in the ruins of old Skara Brae. It would make a good village if it wasn't for all the damn undead.
  6. You're right about it being Wurm 2.0. I've discovered while cutting dungeons that they are very much 2.5D. That's fine. I used to do lots of Doom Engine maps back in the day, and I'm finding some interesting techniques to exploit to make dungeon more than just a corridor festival, but it is a little limiting.
  7. I've looked at the map. It's doable in World Machine, but would be a lot of work. As has been pointed out, you'd need a square map, so regardless if you chose just Westeros or both continents, there would a lot of wasted space. Or players would simply need to accept that Essos was truncated. You'd need a large map size too. I feel 8k would be bordering on too small, but that's me. The map is only the beginning though. You need stuff in game. And that's a massive task as I'm finding out with my map. You need a team of people to build the towns and castles. I can't even imagine the amount of work that would go into King's Landing. Then you need mods. I'm a mapper, not a madder, so I don't have a eel for what you need there. TL;DR This is a LOT of work. The map itself is the easy part but would require some compromises.
  8. Nice map. One problem I see is that it needs to be entirely surrounded by water, so you'll need to extrapolate what the bounds outside the map are. That's a restriction of Wurm that can't be avoided. As TheBird956 said, the best results will be achieved with World Machine or something similar. That will require a bit of work understanding the tool and making it work for you. I can lend you some advice if you want to go down that path, but it's not a quick one and does require a lot of tweaking to get the effect you want, but I can point you in the right direction at least. My world machine project can be adapted to most basic maps. And it'll do splatmaps that you can use as dry riverbeds. Oh ... and access to Photoshop will make your project much, much easier. Sometimes World machine leaves artifact at the edges of the map and it's much easier to clean it up using Photoshop than working within the project itself; I say Photoshop, but any product that'll handle 16bit greyscale will do (The Gimp unfortunately only does 8 bit). You'll so need to decide on size as well. If you're going to attempt a 16k map, you need some beefy hardware to generate the heightmap, work within the Wurm Generation apps and run the server (around 32Gb for each of those processes). If you need a hand, send me a message.
  9. World Machine .... and about three months (of playing around in my spare time) trying to get it just the way I wanted it. Admittedly a lot of that time was spent learning the tool and experimenting with techniques. It's and awesomely powerful tool once you get the hang of it. The Wurm map generators are good, but you can't beat purpose-built terrain modelling tools to build your base heightmaps. The whole thing started as a hobby project using Unreal first and then Unity. Building the actual game on the base engine is a massive undertaking and I was at the point of giving up. Then Wurm Unlimited came along and pretty much saved it. Props to the CodeClub team!
  10. Nice review! Tree spread is set to zero, so I'm pretty sure that's not going to happen (unless there's a bug somewhere). If the place gets denuded of forests, I can come in and lay down a few more, but as you've seen, there's LOTS of land and lots of forest. Even the starter island has a good coverage to the north. I originally planned to have 8 random spawn points spread around the world, but realised pretty soon that players would have to travel for days to meet up. A singular location works much better also as it lets me progressively add content. I've had at least one person build their own boat and is sailing around the place.
  11. Ok. I want to rebind my mouse and keys to a more familiar MMO setup. Hence I want to .... Rebind the Right Mouse to turn while it's pressed (not a toggle). Use the Left button to select and target Rebind a key to the context menu (which is currently the right-mouse menu. Does anyone know if this can be done?
  12. Thanks bdew. Good tips. I'll need to do something automated as currently I'm doing it all manually. I recently invested in a NAS, so backup space shouldn't be a big issue, but I take your point of restricting the number of saves. EDIT: As I'm using Windows, I'm wondering if the following would be sufficient (it's a bit primitive, I know) If I schedule that to run every 3-6 hours and then have my backup software (that I got with the NAS) to do a full backup, of the backup directory whenever a change occurs, keeping x copies. Should that work ok?
  13. For those servers on the LAN tab, definitely!
  14. I wasn't planning on building anything at the location as it's pretty much a blank slate, thought I may have to cull some of the wildlife at starting location to make it a little less threatening. All the wildlife is randomly generated, so I'm glad there is no lava spiders there. I haven't figure out how to do the overhead map yet, but it is a priority. Even then, any map displayed by the client will not do the actual map justice. For that you need to look at the the full sized map is available at the campaign website (in the Geography section) as well as in the original post. You may find those will help a bit. Players start at "Landfall". I plan to do a "live map" on the website but again, this is something I need to learn how to do. Another thing I plan is to do treasure hunts. Occasionally you may find loot that has a random 16 character code. Plug that code into the website and it will give you a treasure map for buried treasure somewhere in the world. No ETA, but something that's on the way. EDIT: "And God did smite the bears and the wolves and they did die and go "ergh!" and did not get up again. And God did chuckle at their corpses. And did a little dance".
  15. Apologies for the outage. I've updated my Sever VM to NOT automatically install updates and reboot now. Teething issues. It should all be up and running again soon.
  16. I've got a bit of a quandary. It's not huge, but I think it may be a bug in the way the launcher reports the server population. Last night I was wandering around my server, floating about as GMs tend to do, sneaking a peek at what players are doing and digging out and populating dungeons. You know .... usual God stuff. I thought my server was empty (0/200) and was going to do a backup/restart after I'd put down some server assets. I happened to notice a player (who I believe was multi-clienting ... I don't have a problem with that) still active on the server. And another one who appeared to be invisible near the start point. Has anyone else noticed that kind of thing? Where the client launcher reports a lower population than there actually is? Is it possible the method of multi-clienting (by closing down all the steam operations in the background) that the population is not reporting back how many people are on the server?
  17. Server is now live. Refer to this thread and this site for further updates
  18. Thanks. I just hope my internet is up to the job. Hosting a 32Gb server would be expensive and I have the hardware already here. I've added a link to the full sized version of the map in the original post. I'll add it to the website as well when I get home from work this afternoon.

  20. The start point is marked as "Landfall". It's on the island (Skara Brae) to the centre west of the main continent. Click on the map to get a larger version. How is the lag now? I've found it usually settles down after a restart.
  21. Hmmm... good point about the combined action timer and skill gain. I like the idea of people starting with a reasonable skill level but not too high. The speed of action feels about right. Also mining is much quicker as well. But I'll drop the skill gain right down and see how it goes. I can always run "bonus weekends" for a bit of fun. I know upkeep is definitely set to zero. Deeding cost should be the same. If it's not, let me know. EDIT: Server rebalanced. Website reflects the updates and clarifies deeding, upkeep and mining. Let me know how things go.
  22. Britannia Reborn is now ... live Britannia Reborn is a recreation/reimagining of the world from the Ultima series of games. It represents a "future" after the events of Ultima IX where the world was cleansed by the fires of the armageddon unleashed by the battle between Avatar and the Guardian. A future where the a burnt world world was renewed by pagan elemental forces. A future where the descendants of those evacuated by the Avatar and his companions at Skara Brae find their way back to resettle a world .... reborn. Server details can be found at http://britannia-wu.weebly.com/ Full size verion of the map can be downloaded here https://goo.gl/u6V9Jv
