  1. I be damned, I be damned... I remembered it was different... and makes me wonder why that is. But fine... My point still remains the same. Allow more than just one incomplete bridge be planned. And why not extend that to buildings too...
  2. As far as I understand, currently one character can only plan one bridge and then it needs to be completed, before that character can plan another bridge. I'm not sure why this limitation is necessary. I propose for bridges same ownership system as player houses. Once a bridge is planned, the ownership can be transferred to another player and the original bridge planner has no obligation to wait for it's completion and can move on to next project. This would give players with very high masonry skill the opportunity to sell their bridge planning services. Also, with larger projects, where multiple long bridges are needed, the plans can be made all at once and the planner doesn't have to sit on site or travel back and forth.
  3. +1 Finding a coin from foraging, burying, killing or whatever other "rare" action should not be tied to kingdom coffers.
  4. Newspring Bridge

*shmeric leans towards Erevorn and starts chanting* Dig! Dig! Dig! .. and bring us the dirt
  5. Newspring Bridge

Yup, I'll come to pick 'em up some time during week and bring empty crates
  6. Newspring Bridge

Yup, let's do it bright and shiny. Arched marble.
  7. Newspring Bridge

Uh uh, this is a drama free zone here Nobody has taken over anything. Slick's doing what I find annoying to do, and that's public relations. I do what I like to do, that's... moving dirt around, I guess. Nefer (aka Veste) has done a lot of scouting in Newspring mountains already and has quite a nice route planned over the cliffs (and days of work done on it). A man of less talks and more actions, as he is It may not be perfect in all opinions, but it's a start and can be improved if anyone ever finds the need for it. On the "visual" front, looks like marble arch has most votes. I have started making marble bricks already with those shards we have in our storage. Should be enough for the first bridge section anyway. Digging dirt and making bricks, that's some good way to spend time on two accounts, eh. Anyway. Keep on rocking!
  8. It took us 4 hours to fend off the invaders, with a couple deaths on our side and just one Nahjo priest doing heals (Bluegiraffe). Good fight everyone!
  9. Newspring Bridge

    Forgot to say, thank you
  10. Newspring Bridge

Nice people do It's an option for those who want. Maybe you live half a server away and never use it. But maybe John just on the other side of a hill from your place does care because he visits his grandmother on Newspring every third Sunday. Yeah, in the end the builders decide, this is true. But the builders may base their decision more or less on public opinion
  11. Newspring Bridge

As long as I've been playing (not too long) I've seen people say in Freedom "someone should just build a bridge to NS" and "about time we get a bridge built to us". Yes, there have been a couple opinions against it, along the lines "but we're happy here and we don't really need mainland". Then I sail around and sometimes I've seen those corpses floating in the sea, between the island and mainland. And couple times I've picked up drowning new players who didn't have skill or knowledge of the game. Heartbreaking! The bridge is just another highway connecting just another starter town to already existing network. It is far from any existing deeds and doesn't get on the way of any natural or manmade landmarks. Long story short, I started building it and intend to finish it because nobody asked me if I really wanted the Glasshollow market to be remade or if I like the highway from Linton to Summerholt. (for the record, these are just random examples towards which I have no hostile feelings; in fact I love the new highways). As for the bridge type, I guess in the end the builders-planners make the decision. The poll is maybe... just to give you a feeling of democracy, thee heee heee.
  12. Newspring Bridge

I'm going to use a textbook political answer here when it comes to building new things that nobody wants. This project will create new jobs, will boost economy and trade, will increase and open cultural connections and tourism. This is only a good thing for everyone. It will have no negative impact on nature and environment. <insert lesser famous TV star voice and face> I APPROVE OF THIS! Can't argue with that
  13. Looking for someone who can sell or rent a 96+ ql dioptra OR sell 96+ ql bronze lumps. Thank you.
  14. Newspring Bridge

Looks like the poll was moved to Xanadu section, meh. Anyhow, a bump to it, those who care should really vote before the year ends because 2017 we'll start building first sections. So far it seems to be flat stone. Personally I love the looks of long arched bridges, but looks like I'll be on the losing side Also, as far as I know, ships will get stuck on the bridge supports, but if you want that... To clarify, the dirt pillars are three stories high, bridges will NOT be connected to buildings, the bridge will be 3 tiles wide.
  15. 6 hours before rift there were no tents, no healing area, no housing, no preparation whatsoever except some cut trees. The healing area got finished just 5 minutes before rift opened and it turned out to be quite fun, not as hard as I had expected. We had no Fo priests and mass healings, but people fought carefully, not pulling all the spawns at once. More serious injuries I was able to patch up with my Nahjo priest. Good fight everyone, Xanadu is safe once again!
  16. This might be a rift where invaders actually win. 6 hours before start there is zero tents. Xanadu is doomed!!! But if anyone actually wants to fight, bring clay for a forge, bowl and clay for an altar
  17. Newspring Bridge

Midpoints are dirt, approximately 90-100 dirt above water (3 stories). This is planned to be a permanent highway. Current houses on the spires are temporary and will go poof! when building starts. My official Bridge Engineer is Cevanne with awesome 98.8 masonry. All she needs are some 93ql bridge tools so if anyone has high QL bronze, please give a shout.
  18. Newspring bridge

My Wurm time is limited lately and I'm not very often available; and I'm not the biggest fan of organizing projects with more than 3 people in it. Reminds me of work too much. Slickshot has offered help in tracking resources and people. To be honest, I don't know him much or his history. But I also know this is a game of pixels and I'm not going to turn down his offer. Nobody has to follow or do anything, but I just confirm that right now he has my blessings to organize and plan along and whatnot. He's also going to make the poll about bridge type because apparently I am not skilled enough to find that option on this forum. That said, I still keep ownership of the north and south deeds, those will remain open and public throughout the process (and later and always) There is going to be some sort of accommodation in those deeds for builders and other participants. Beds, in particular. I will continue participating in this madness as often as my time allows. Shoutout to Veste (Nefer, Festecles, Thewatcher, & thatFeker), go follow his twitch stream if nothing better to do. (shameless village promotion) Let the dirt flow!
  19. Hi. Regarding the Newspring bridge, here's what I've planned and what I've done so far.
  20. Newspring bridge

Hi. Recently it has come to attention of several restless wurmians that someone has started building a bridge "or something" to connect Newspring hermits to the rest of Xanadu's community. With the new map dumps it's even more clear, so here's my confession. Yes, I've started dropping and shaping the dirt pillars for Newspring bridge system. So far I've been doing it by myself and quietly. Not necessarily in secrecy, but I haven't really announced it to public either. But with more people asking around and getting directed to me, here's the public thread. Disclaimer. All of this "plan" is just my own thoughts put on digital paper. You have the right to disagree and I have the right to either acknowledge or ignore your opinion. This undertaking is not my main job and not my only current project in Wurm. The plan. (may or may not be altered based on anything) (click for larger image) The whole bridge will consist of 9 sections, each roughly 36 tiles long and 3 tiles wide; plus a shorter up'n'down ramp in each end. The dirt pillars will rise about 3 stories (90 dirt) above water. Final bridge will not be connected to any building, it needs to get highway protection and not be controlled by me or any other player or closed group. The type of the bridge (rock or marble, arched or flat) will be decided later based on public opinion. Done so far. Math and numbers. I've measured the distances and approximate depth of all the pillar spots. Wish it was easier... 3 pillars are done and 4th is pretty much done too, just need to find the moment to empty my dirt carriers. Two deeds at both end of the planned bridge. For reasons. Talked to a master mason (will be named if they give permission for it) with high enough skill to plan the bridge sections. To do. 4 pillars to create. This is the toughest part because so far it has been relatively shallow water, less than 600 dirt deep. The pillars 1, 2 and 3 are respectively 660, 680 and 740 dirt deep under water. Not so bad numbers. But here's the scary part. 660 dirt under water, on flat seabed, takes about 400 crates of dirt. 680 depth is about 440 crates. 740 depth is 560 crates. But the ground is not flat and those numbers are actually much higher, I would expect to see 1500 crates of dirt for those 3 pillars total, probably even more. The last pillar, number 4, takes only about 40k dirt. And to be clear, this is just to get one tile to surface, there are additional crates to raise them high and big enough. Building it. Child's play compared to what needs to be done before. After it's done. I have not made any further plans how or where the roads/highways will run after the big monster is done. Let's cross that bridge when we get to it. If you want to join in. Bring dirt. With the recent favor and priest changes, my Nahjo worshipper's dirt production has slowed down (chopping the onions makes me cry). If anyone wants to take part in this madness, then each and every crate with dirt is very welcome. You can either bring it to the bridge deeds, permissions will be set to unload for everyone) or just ship it to the right spot and throw overboard. The pillar locations are marked by anchored boats. I am not going to boss you around but if you get on my nerves, I'll just have to slap you. Now you know, thanks for reading and happy wurming! If you feel the urge to contact me, I'm Shmeric in the game, Shmeric on forums.
  21. 1 hour and 50 minutes of slashing. The Rift that has plagued Xanadu has been shut! Hat off to the brave cameraman Thewatcher, reporting live from the battlefield. Selfless sacrifice, dear friend, Pulitzer awaits you! https://www.twitch.tv/thatfeker/v/107557805 (rift opens about 1 hour 20 minutes into the video)
  22. +1 Flowers should act as trees and bushes - not give up their tile to other sprouts and at the same time spread to adjacent free grass tiles naturally.
  23. I'm unable to spend all my naturally timed sleep bonus in one sitting anyway
  24. As a person who has not cooked a single meal or dish since the cooking update, I am using refresh daily. Maybe I'm missing something but the CCFP doesn't really give me any bonuses other than eat less, run further and the like. But I very much do like the skillgain bonus from 99% nutrition and the instant full belly. One refresh keeps me going for my full gaming evening (couple hours) and I don't need to waste any time on reading or learning recipes or whatnot
