  1. Update: The value of computation is up 16% from last week. Enjoy the extra iron!
  2. Thanks for the feedback! We've heard similar things from a number of other users, and will be implementing something like this in our next big release. Check us out again in around a month EDIT: I might also suggest using the checkbox in settings called "When minimized, run only when idle." When checked, the client runs whenever it is visible, but when minimized, it wont run unless there has been no keyboard or mouse input for 5 minutes. This will keep it from using resources when you need them.
  3. Our client is not yet as efficient as some of the other Bitcoin miner applications, but our next big release includes a big backend rewrite that should improve efficiency and politeness significantly. Just PM'ed you instructions to log into our server with the Bitcoin miner of your choice (so you can try your FPGAs). We have longpolling: you should be getting the amount of iron estimated. We'll look into your problem further. I'll pass your comments about the rate up the chain of command internally. Thanks.
  4. Rolf is at GDC in Cologne. He told us he'll be back on the 20th. He's in Mexico.
  5. Everything Jovan said is good advice. Give that a try, and if that doesn't work, email me your log file. You can find it at: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\CoinLab\MiningClient\miner.exe.log If you have filename extensions turned off, it will be a text file called miner.exe If you could email this file to wurmsupport@coinlab.com, I'll be able to see what is going on with your client under the hood. Thanks!
  6. Improved Rates! From a combination of Bitcoin prices rising and client efficiency improvements, you can earn about 30% more iron from our client than you could a month ago. We've improved our rate estimator, so you can now see how much you will be able to earn seconds after you start generating iron.
  7. We believe that we have solved the problem that was causing "Problems communicating with Coinlab" for a short amount of time every 10 minutes or so. It was a server-side issue. If you are still regularly getting "Problems communicating with Coinlab", and your internet connection is otherwise working fine, let us know so we can look into it. Thanks!
  8. Great to hear you figured it out. Integrated graphics cards are often incompatible with our client, and the ones that are compatible earn very low rates. Stick with the 4350, your laptop won't earn enough to justify using our service on it even if you can get it set up properly.
  9. At the moment, our rate is 1.489 iron per share, if you are familiar with bitcoin mining (we are a PPS pool). Our rate fluctuates with BTC price, BTC network difficulty, and USDEUR exchange rate. We buy all of our iron directly from Rolf at face value (1 EUR per silver), so if you are buying from other users at a discount, you can probably earn more Bitcoin mining, selling BTC to USD/EUR, and purchasing from another user, as some are selling for 60% face value. If you are going to purchase from the web store, its a question of how much you value your time. You may be able to get a few % points extra, but will spend 2-3 hours moving funds around and have to wait up to a week to get your iron. We deliver iron usually less than 10 minutes after you mine it, and deal with all the exchanging hassles, but we do take a bit for ourselves. By using our service (or the web store), you are supporting Rolf instead of just another player, if that counts as anything for you. If you experiment doing Bitcoin mining yourself, please let us know about your results. We'd love to hear your impression of doing it manually.
  10. Hey Schwanke, Thanks for the feedback. You are right, it is very important for computer owners to be familiar with how their system is running in order to keep their hardware healthy. If you hear your GPU making an odd noise, it is good to investigate before continuing to use our client. Most GPU's will self regulate temperature to a certain extent, so even if it seems like you just stopped using the GPU, sometimes the fan will kick on to get it down to baseline temperature. If your fans are sounding different, you might check to see if there is dust in them - its a surprisingly common problem. If you have pets, you may have some hair in there preventing it from spinning at full speed. Heat is the biggest problem for GPUs, and making sure the fans are properly functioning is the best way to keep the temperature down. If you are concerned, it is a good idea to download a diagnostic tool which shows GPU temperature. If you run your card above 90C for extended periods of time, it can reduce the lifetime of your hardware, so try to always keep it below that. We will be adding automatic temperature controls in a couple months which you may be interested in trying out. You'll be able to set a max temperature, and the client will regulate itself on and off to make sure the temperature never exceeds that threshold.
  11. About the "Problems communicating with CoinLab" error: this is a new bug. Looks like a bug was introduced in 1.0.3 that causes connections to be dropped. We think we know how to solve it, and will push an update as soon as the fix is stable. Thanks for your patience.
  12. Version 1.0.3 released! Changes: - Real-time rate estimation (updates every couple of seconds, instead of every few minutes) - Less CPU load - Uses less bandwidth - Handles lost connections more gracefully - some other minor bug fixes that you probably won't notice Your client will auto-update, but if you have any problems, you can download the newest version here: media.coinlab.com/clients/32/wurm-1.0.3.msi (Let us know what went wrong too, please) If you haven't signed up yet, you should go here first: http://pool.coinlab.com/partners/wurm
  13. Our lead developer says we send roughly 1KB back and forth about once per minute, so if you are paying purely for bandwidth, it shouldn't be much of a problem at all. If you have an exceptionally powerful machine, you will be sending data back and forth (getting new work and turning in the old) more quickly, but proportionally to increased earnings. If you are concerned, I'd recommend using a network diagnostic tool that measures bandwidth usage, and test our client for yourself. If you do, let us know your results!
  14. When GPUs get burnt out, it is usually because the card doesn't have proper ventilation. When running our client, you should pay attention to your GPU's temperature, and if it is over 90, you should stop the client. If you notice high temperatures, you can try cleaning any dust out of your computer, making sure any cables in the case are zip-tied out of the way not to block airflow, or getting additional fans. To your GPU, running our client is very similar to running a game at maximum settings. Don't overdo it, but have fun!
  15. If you are only earning 5 iron per week, our client now tells you that your hardware is not powerful enough for our service. The average user is earning around 65 iron per hour. (One Silver every six or seven days).
  16. "Problems communicating with bitcoin RPC 0 2" is happening because we had some server connectivity issues. It should be working now. Please email me at wurmsupport@coinlab.com if you experience it again. Note: internet connectivity issues on your side will also cause this message (and we don't necessarily need to hear from you for that).
  17. We just pushed a new update. If you close and restart the client, it should auto-update to 1.0.2 (may take a couple minutes of downloading). You can tell if you are up-to-date by looking for the version number in the Settings dialog. If you don't see a version number, you have the old version. If it doesn't auto-update properly, you can download the new version at: http://media.coinlab.com/clients/32/wurm-1.0.2.msi Please let us know if the auto-update doesn't work for you. Changes: - Added warning for users with insufficient hardware - Less CPU load - Some bug fixes
  18. Yeah 50-70 iron is what I would expect from a GTX 560Ti. And, for most hardware, we recommend pausing the client while playing games. We are working to make the client grace fully get out of the way of other GPU processes automatically, but it's a work in progress.
  19. Your computer is performing Bitcoin mining. Technically, it is doing a double SHA-256 to search for . By mining, your computer is securing the Bitcoin network by making it exponentially more expensive to attack. Bitcoin allows people to securely send "money" anywhere in the world for less than a penny, and with no third-parties. We think it's a good thing for society, but it certainly isn't the same level of good as solving world hunger. 90C+ is crazy! The "red zone" for GPUs is above 80C - above that you start risking your card burning out. You shouldn't run our client if it makes your computer that hot. It sounds like it might be time to clean the dust out of your computer .
  20. We are in the process of writing a new kernel which we hope will outperform many other miners, but you are right, we aren't getting maximum efficiency yet. If you have two cards, you can open two copies of the client, and set the Device in settings to each card. If you'd like to use a different Bitcoin mining program, you can log into our pool with the credentials below: URL: pool.coinlab.com Port: 8332 Username: wurm_username (ex. Rolf -> wurm_rolf) Password: x (lower case 'x') Once we add other types of compute jobs to our network and improve our OpenCL kernel, our client will always produce better returns than other mining programs, but that is a couple of months away.
  21. Masaykh is right. We collect your specs for support and statistic purposes. You can run the client on as many machines with different hardware set ups as you want. If you contact support, please let them know if you are using different hardware than what you originally signed up with though :-)
  22. The "Problems communicating with bitcoin RPC 1 2" problem is fixed in our new version of the client. We'll push the update later this week once it is tested. Sorry we can't monetize your NVIDIA 8100 very well. You are earning too little to justify the electricity costs of running our client, so we recommend directly purchasing in-game coins through the Wurm shop. We plan to add CUDA based computation by the end of the year, which should increase the profitability of NVIDIA cards significantly.
  23. You can stop it and uninstall it at any point, and is easily uninstalled through the Windows Control Panel. Registration is for each Wurm username, and your Wurm username how you identify yourself to the client to let us know where to send the iron. Multiple machines can be computing for you simultaneously, and you will earn the sum of what each machine could earn individually. You can earn iron for your friend, or you can get friends to earn for you.
  24. >only 5/10 irons Not sure what this means. Between 5 and 10 irons? How long did you run the client? 57/h means 57 iron per hour was the estimated earning rate. We have some bugs with rate estimation, however. If you could email your log file to wurmsupport@coinlab.com, it will help me find the problem. The log file is found in C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\CoinLab\MiningClient\miner.exe.log Thanks!
