Hmm... Ian Banks is good if you like Sci-Fi, and I guess Inversions is pretty close to traditional fantasy. Neil Gaiman is also good, dark-humorous fantasy type thing. Anansi Boys was really fun

What about combat spells? Combat runes attached to weapons, then a % to cast the spell depending on Rune QL? Or maybe those staffs we saw images of a while back?

Umm...Other than the original idea, which had potential and could be built on, all these ideas are pretty terrible, or don't change much at all.

While some of your logic is a bit iffy (see the other people's posts) I...love this idea. It's how I thought Wurm was when I first started, and it's why I started playing. That said, this does not look like it would sit well with Rolf's wish that Priests, Wizards and magical champions are rare.
