Don't be upset if/when we ask for permission from the GM's to destroy the highway IF need be to reroute it. Just a heads up. Also, although the holidays may be over for YOU it doesn't mean they're over for everyone. Keep that in mind as you patiently await construction, thanks. I would also very much appreciate it if you would allow Ostentatio to map the highway was well. There is a reason I put Ostentatio as the highway leader. Look at it this way; more eyes on the highway plan makes for a better route altogether.

How about we use the stone for highway bricks, and we'll make the bridge marble?

I think it is safe to say that we will be using the arched bridge format for The Bridge. Whether we are using marble or stone is not yet decided. According to the poll above many people really enjoy the aesthetic of marble. The only problem with marble is how unavailable it is to a wide margin of players, however, if those who consider themselves primary contributors to the project wish to use up the marble they have then we will certainly go that route.

Simply put: from what we've seen there are more people who want the bridge than there are those who don't want it. I don't see how there's any argument against that fact. We're not being dismissive, it just is what it is. You could help us build it, ya know?

Breaking it down makes as it is an even split between flat or arched styles: 17 people so far want a flat bridge and 17 want an arched bridge. Makes sense to me to poll for those two types. We'll see if people want a more specific vote narrowed down or not. *waiting for comments*

I actually hate bridges built this way. haha Always looked silly to me.

If I had faith that people would continue to vote if I changed the polling I'd narrow it down to the two favorite options: flat stone or arched marble. What do all you out there think? Should the poll be narrowed to find the majority favorite? (I don't really consider anything below 51% to be the majority) Let me know.

As for the bridge type I don't have a huge preference. The arched bridge is easier, yet the flat bridge will look better over the span. I never cared much for multiple arched bridges that connect together. Single span arches are better, imo. Large span flats, however, look more majestic to me in a minimalist kind of way with everything being neat right-angles and perpendicular. Just my two irons!

I brought this up in private with Shmeric about the material costs of flat vs arched--he didn't seem too worried, which is fair. I think he really only prefers the asthetics of arched over flat, but doesn't mind the material count.

I had wondered about that, but that is a starter town so the point is a bit moot. Also, Shmeric has a deed at the landing point so we aren't disrupting anyone else's land. Also.... It's a starting town island. Lol

The spires are 90 dirts tall which is more than enough. Also, bridge supports are I believe 5 tiles apart, which is plenty of room to miss them, unless you're drunk...and then you deserve to hit them. haha As for getting moved to this sub-forum I requested to be moved back to the Town Square. There are dozens of server-specific threads in that sub-forum that are never moved, so I see no reason why this one was. I put it in the Town Square for a reason.
