  1. Quite the opposite. If you get known as a boat thief, people are never going to pay you the "ransom" for their boat, but will elect to pay it to the fund instead if they want the boat back. A boat thief doesn't benefit by this, so has nothing to show for their time spent collecting boats. If you'd looked in the salvage forum before posting this rant, you'd see that, I think without exception, all salvage notices so far posted have asked for nothing in return, or have specified that the money should be paid to the fund, since they know people won't want to pay them. We aren't. It's got nothing to do with paying the GMs for the job they do. It's a penalty for being stupid enough to not secure the boat properly in the first place, no more, no less. And how exactly are you going to manage that if whoever took it has chosen to place it on a deed above water level and/or with walls around it, as has been the case in the past? The new rules allow people a mechanism for getting their boats back (with a small penalty for carelessness). If they were really treating us like babies, then it would be declared illegal to take anyone's boat, regardless of whether it was moored/locked/whatever.
  2. Kinda agreed. I had decay on it in late August last year before the change to make it a 2 week delay period. Lost something like 0.15 from 5 days away, and that took a serious hunting trip to put right (hitting Brucious Island when there were still raging trolls there). But I think it should be made that the 3x works on FS, rather than making (yet another) special case for FS (i.e. protection from decay). And since this would make still less severe the penalty for dieing, the FS penalty of death should be buffed. Death is already far less of a big deal these days than it ever used to be (when you lost all skills), and making 3x work on FS would take out even more sting... so we should multiply that by 3 to 0.75. In fact, while we're about it, make it a round 1 point.
  3. Freedom Hunts

:'( Ya, it was deep in the forest... almost walked over it. I did stop for a sec and think "Can I lead this all the way to a pen" and decided it was too much effort, so I just took the 0.014 FS. Was female too, I'm sorry to say. :-\
  4. Freedom Hunts

All day hunt ;D Only about 0.16 FS, but a lot of kills. Could have been a fair few more too, if I wasn't ignoring a fair amount of non-aggro. [11:44:19] Young dog is dead. R.I.P. 5. I like Urman's take on this, with a further modification. To avoid the mass proliferation of boats (everyone starting on Freedom seems to make/buy a rowboat or sailboat, half of them quit, leaving a lot of boats lying around), I'd suggest that, as an alternative to requesting transfer of ownership for the relevant fee, the salavager can, at their discretion, instead ask for the boat to be destroyed on expiry of the relevant interval, and this would be free of charge. I'd also agree with his suggestion that even properly secured boats should be eligible for transfer of ownership / destruction: For locked and moored boats left in someone else's harbour (which is going to have to be defined by deed/perimeter I think), I'd suggest a similar thing to the current system: a "Notice of intended salvage" perhaps, in the forum. Once the time interval has expired, the boat can then be transferred (for the fee) or destroyed upon request. If it's out in the wilds, or on the person's own deed, it can't be salvaged / destroyed in this manner. And yes, I know GMs don't usually destroy stuff except if it's a bug, but we do need some method of clearing the clutter out of our harbours. Even rampant decay isn't really enough to guarantee this, since there's often a repair ninja about looking to get free skill (I should know, I'm as guilty of this as the next person!) On topic: 2 months seems a reasonable interval. 1 month is too little - some people go on holiday / breaks for that length of time. 3 months would be okay also, but I think anything longer than that is probably a bit too much.
  6. This is the wonderful Dirt spell, that creates 7 dirt and costs 40 favor to cast? You might be waiting for your dirt for a little while. :
  7. Lag

Wulfgar's right. Having a look at the longer term graphs is quite instructive: There was a very bad patch at the beginning of June (think this was the weekend that was basically unplayable, that we got 5 hours SB for). Since then, it hasn't been too bad at all, until about two weeks ago, when the new movement code was introduced. This does *appear* (not going to claim 100% since I'm not the server developer, and don't know what other changes might have been made) to have been the reason for the recent lag, but, as Wulfgar points out, that seems resolved now, since we had a 3+ day uptime with little to no lag since the last restart but one. I have heard others say there's very bad network latency on some Australia - US links recently though, so check your routing to the Wurm servers. Nothing you can do about that, but at least we should only blame Wurm when it's Wurm's fault.
  8. Yep. Even the hatchet is kinda optional (can use pickaxe on fruit trees for logs, and so work that way for a bit). Assuming you have a mine already open and access to a vein, it shouldn't be too bad from there.
  9. I think they'll be needing mauls more than axes with the new rule update Gonna have to make all those boats accessible, and get cataloguing.
  10. I also suspect there needs to be some sort of time limit, from when the boat is taken, to when a "Salvage notification" is required to be posted on the forum?
  11. Question for / clarification requested from the GMs: Under the new "boat salvage" rules, if the negotation cannot be concluded to both parties satisfaction, who are the default fees payable to? I assume it's not to the salvager, since otherwise it would be make no sense for either side to agree a price other than the default fee, since one or other would be losing out. Is it possibly to a slush fund for staff deeds / global projects / whatever. Basically, I'm anticipating conversation like this: Salvager: "Yo, jacked your sailboat. Gimme 50c and you can have it" Owner: "Haha. I don't think so." Salvager: "Aww. How about 20c then?" Owner: "Nah. I'd rather pay the GMs 50c than you 20" Salvager: "Oh How about 10c then?" Owner: "Okay, you got a deal. Where is it?"
  12. Nicely put. I've also posted too much in defence of my suggestion, and will also be viewing rather than responding further.
