  1. It obviously affects how much the players can trust that the committee has the players, and not personal gain, on their agenda. Ideally the committee members would be chosen by the community and not the devs.

I like to think that people do not rely on the wording of messages to understand the intent behind them. Simply wording his need to leave IRC differently should not make a difference. I understand it does, but I think that is a failure of the people reading too much into statements. From what I have seen, the team is not only focused on bringing up a profitable business and thus making choices to only benefit profit. I believe the team strives to provide a unique game experience, which is truly what we have in wurm. If you only think about the business side you end up like EA. But yes. You are right, that is how business works and sadly the team has to put up with this.
  3. True, but a raid on something closer to Kyara would have been less likely to succeed. And no, I know it is no use to get into these types of arguments. It is like arguing what would have happened if Hitler had not been born or whatever. It just goes with the butthurtness of knowing we could have done something if we had known that mechanics had changed.
  4. Council would also remove the problem of valid requests/problems being drowned out by ###### on the forums.
  5. Except those threads are filled with hyperbole and people throwing personal insults at each other.
  6. What are we talking about now? Getting into a deed through a mine entrance is still impossible as far as I am aware. Also it illustrates my point beautifully. Had a council been consulted about such a "minor" change that the devs did not expect having such grave repurcussions. I am sure it would have gone differently.
  7. That has been done several times in wurm as well. It is just not viable for anything but the most sensitive issues.
  8. Why are you saying 10 people will decide the development direction? Where does the number 10 come from. Why do you think a council would have deciding powers? I don't think the team would ever make a council which serves that function. I think the dev team wants a council that can inform them on what effects changes could have such that the dev team could make more informed decisions. The council would probably never make any decision for the dev team. I can't say for sure, but I don't think that is what the team is thinking about when they mention a council. Again it is the issue of majority rule. Features should not be decided by simple voting. Features should be decided by what the team wants to do with the game.

If you can't come to terms with the fact that the developers are not your personal servants then yes. In fact you should quit all gaming because no devs will ever like you as a customer.
  10. Obviously you have to trust that your rep has your interests in mind.
  11. Devs will take you more seriously when your ideas go through a representative so they don't have to wade through page after page of forum trolling to get good discussion.
  12. You don't seem to realise that had the change been announced beforehand. The loot would not have been there for you to take.

These analogies are terrible. If you have such big problems with the fact that Rolf is not your servant, then quit. This even fits well with your analogy. If the guy you hire to mow your lawn doesn't live up to your expectations. You don't keep paying him for his service.

What is wrong with this? Do you expect Rolf to be online 24/7 to answer player concerns? Entitlement at its finest. Have you considered that maybe Rolf had something way more important than Wurm to attend to? You say it is damaging to the game, what if Rolf had an appointment with a new developer. What if he had an appointment with the hosting company. It does not have to be game related stuff for him to be justified in saying that. What if it was something personal like a doctors visit or whatever. It is seriously low to take out quotes like that out of context. He even apologised to everyone in IRC that he had to go. He even came back to address the issue later the same night. Don't give him that crap.
  15. For this to be valid you have to assume that game decisions can be made in a democratic manner. This is not how it works since the dev team does not have to listen to its playerbase. Furthermore, having the masses decide game features is a surefire way to make the game bad. You also assume that Rolf will just do whatever the hell he wants anyway, and you're right, the council should not be able to veto Rolf. However I believe Rolf wants the best for the game and having a council will increase the chance of changes having the intended effect on gameplay because the council understands how the game is played, not just how it works. A council would not distance the dev team from the playerbase, in fact it would make communication much easier, and better. The role of a council is not to decide what features the playerbase wants or do not want. That is up to the development team. The role of the council is to inform the dev team of what effects a change will have, such that the dev team can make informed decisions that will take the game in the direction they want. The development of Wurm is not a democracy and it should'nt be.
  16. It is of course fair if the bugfix had been announced months prior to these events. However, noone in JK was aware that safemines now worked like this. It seems MR were the only people aware of the change.
  17. Can you dub the battles with ventrilo recordings?
  18. Someone wanted guards to be slowed down.
  19. You really hit the nail straight on the head there. I'm glad we can agree that players posting ###### on forums should not have an effect. The hypocrisy is overwhelming.
  20. Implying MR has not done the same.
  21. That would be standard wurm procedure. Put in hard work for a couple of weeks then reap benefits without drawbacks forever after. Not very balanced.
  22. Thank you for expanding on what I meant by my post.
  23. -1. There has to be a tradeoff to be going 42km/h.
