  1. Plan for a Plan

Asking what can be done to improve WO is a difficult question. Majority of suggestions I had read seem to apply to both games and lean more favorite to WU instead of WO as asked. And any thing I would suggest would just be a shot in the dark. So I'll take thread and give my track history here in WO. As to most players who are here, I am a bit new in the time scale of wurm coming in around November 11th of 2011. I came with nine other friends. Originally the youngest at 18 talking me into joining him because he was lonely here. After the first week, four others had already dropped out. The second week a friend got a sub, but only lasted to the end of the month. By the end of two months I was the only one left. During this time, originally we all chose a role that we would fill. I chose mason, not knowing I was going to have to sub up for that as I wanted to build stone houses for us all. The carpenter left at the end of week two. So now we had to start looking into another skill to work on just to get a house going. The blacksmith left at week two as well. Another skill to work on. I don't have this kind of time as I'm working and wurm it self is a job in it self in time to do any thing with. No one as of yet can make any of the nice items. Luckily we had all joined a quasi village where the guy who lead it had 6 months in the game. We all spent our time fixing up the place the way he wanted it. No one complained as we needed the skill raised any ways so that we could start building or making any thing nice. This person who had some time in the game did a big deal in helping us get going. I used the time to mine, make bricks and make a stone wall around the place since we were not going to pay for a game that we had already lost half our initial starting player count with. It took me a whole month to top out at 20 on mason skill. At this point I also had become the carpenter, miner and farmer. I couldn't choose a weapon so I kept bouncing around, but no matter what I hunted, I had to have two or three others with me otherwise I was dead, by wolves or mountain lions. When our armor was finally making a chain set for me, he stopped coming to the game. So by now I had the first two months of the game being able to ease into all the roles needed to do any thing in this game to just survive. The skills were at 20 for the most important things. Blacksmiths eventually worked its way in there when the last of my friends, the one who brought me in left the game. Now I had to figure out how to make nails for a new house as the owner who had it didn't have me on permissions to modify. Luckily the forge was still there, all the other tools and all that were kept on our characters when we logged out so no one would steal our stuff. So now I have to figure out how to make iron. I remembered something about the iron ore I had mined for him and tossed that in and hoped it would melt but wasn't sure how long it would take. In a 10ql forge, it took forever. I didn't know higher ql stuff made this go by faster. I am now the only person left out of this group, including the guy who had helped us getting started. Luckily the learning curve wasn't shoved at me all at once. I had two months in at this point. I put a deed up right next to where the walls were and still have that spot to this day. It is located on Deliverance and at the time, I thought a really really really long way from the starter city. Now, int he grand scale of things, I'm like a five minute walk from the place. What I remember the most hat made the journey normally thirty minutes to get back home was the "mob dodging" I would some times die two or three times just trying to get back. I mean what the heck! Now I have to work on those skills again. This stuff has taken me two months to get to 20! What I should have done was joined a starter village, that is what I should have done, but no, I wanted to be with my friends and we would all learn together. Now, I am solo with none of my friends around. The freedom chat wasn't a friendly place at the time due to Deliverance unique community of Xenophobia. I hadn't subscribed yet and my deed wasn't set but I had a house I was working out of. So, I figured I would leave my mark on the game in the case I did leave the game. Why not make a highway? This I went about by planing a route where no deeds were even near. I learned many things about how people react to highways in Wurm doing this. They either run to the very end of there you cleared at and set up a deed and force you to reroute. Or even if it doesn't go through their perimeter and goes around, they will destroy the road. The rules? If it is any thing I have learned about the rule enforcement in WO is "Technically according to the letter no rule was broken" You would think don't take other peoples stuff would mean that. But according to the very letter it doesn't mean that at all. It just is there to look good. After completing the highway project, even if not properly done, just done as quickly as possible to have less isseus setting it up. I preemed up, all that skill I could have had.... oh well. I then set up my deed and havn't left. But I do come and go from the game. Sitting here at the computer for 8 hours making mortar just to pay upkeep for a month on the deed is like an hour at work in real life. As for prices people keep talking about. Being a new player, if you want to survive any thing, you are going to have to drop some real cash into this game. And not just a little. I had two hroses hooked up with gear. They were take right off deed killed and had their equipment yanked off them. Yes it was my fault because I didn't know that you couldn't give permissions for a deed on another server to access your deed and the permissions overrode all the others I had set up. So because I didn't set my deed up correctly the guys didn't technically steal any thing. 20 dollars or real life cash, just gone. Then the weapon I have, I still have it, almost lost it recently but that sucker cost me 40 real life dollars. The armor I have, luckily it is much cheaper at 8 real life dollars. All this in order to keep from dieing every few days in wurm and having to work on that lost skill again. If you havn't figured it out by now, I am a PvE player. I'm not into that PvP take what I can type thing. Deliverance, being as it used to be the first server you would hit leaving chaos is nothing but nail your stuff down or loose it type place. Reason for the Xenophobia of the server. My friends who I knew who have left the game were all PvE players as well. And I miss playing with them. One of the nicest people I knew left because due to a glitch had all her stuff yanked from off deed. That player is never coming back. I could go on for a long time with all the issues as to why my friends left the server and now want me to go to WU. Thing is, I know that if I join them on WU, all five of the deeds I have now will be closed up and I may never be back to WO. I would like to play with some of the higher end gear there is in game. I would like to have access to drake armor and dragon plate with out spending 500 real dollars for the stuff. I would like to have a adamantium or even a glimmer weapon with out paying the half a grand in real life currency for. But I will never have access to it because A, I'm dumping that kind of money into pixels, and B, I don't see my self doing PvP any time soone. I was over on Chaos before, it is nothing but base building. Why not separate PvE and PvP all together? Already Deliverance is used as a safe house for crafting all the materials needed for the bases and the nice gear that people do not want stolen from that side. And by separating the two sides of the game you can implement many of the things that the PvE community has been asking for and not having to worry about breaking the balance of the PvP side of the game.
  2. They don't last long after Xmas. Last year mine was gone on the 1st of January.
  3. People keep saying a new player. The name of the character looks like an alt character name. Also, collapsing a tile requires a priest. So the player isn't new. And if he is, the priest who took the job would have known. I'm carting my main to mine, a nahjo to cast, and a cart load of corn. Just finsihing up the leveling of a highway project.
  4. lost horse

Froggy, It has been nearly 2 weeks now. I suspect some one killed your horse and took all the gear off of it. It is a common thing to do to horses that are not on protected land. Even if you knew the horses name. If the horse was killed a GM wouldn't be able find it because it would be not in the database as creatures on the server. Sorry to hear about it though. I had some guy take of with 10s worth of horse gear off a horse of mine like that.
  5. Will be there with my name sake Theonis if not, meant I slept in to late.
  6. This is not an advertisement for work. Warning Wall of text: We all have built a path at some point, even if its 2 tiles long and 1 tile wide, it's a path. Roads are an upgrade from this path by having it paved with cobble stone or some slab. But by making it a slab you have invested some time and effort into the road to make it look nice. Roads still are mainly just intended for its builder to access something, mainly to a mine, or to a highway. Roads come in a number of forms, this would include even a 5 tile wide paving leading to a highway as a connection. As for a highway, not many people have ever built a highway before. For the people who have built a highway not many have done any thing that has traversed longer then 100 tiles. I actually enjoy making highway, this is to include the planning aspect, the clearing aspect, and paving aspect. Worst part, in my opinion is the leveling to make it look professionally done. This said, don't think I'm out there making roads left and right just because I'm board. I have other things I would rather be doing and currently working on any ways. I have this highway that goes right through the middle of my deed. I put it there and learned many things about highways because of it. Currently, the highway in total is 489 tiles with 328 of that length being 3 tiles wide. I opted to not have sand on the sides. I have worked on a few other road projects on other servers so what I'm going to share is stuff I have experienced or stuff in which the friend I build roads with has experienced. Point of the matter though. Many many many players in Wurm HATE highways. They will do what ever it takes to take a road apart and get it removed all together. Roads do serve a purpose but a road that is parallel to another has no reason and is an eyesore which fuels much of why players hate them. The purpose of a road is make travel time much faster, and travel much easier for people. But a road also brings many things with it other then just making travel easier. Roads funnel people down a set path. Which means, you will get many new players to the game who will just run down the road, see a spot, most of the time an abandoned deed and then claim it. What this leads to is a place that used to be untouched, quickly turns into a populated area. If there is a road, there will be a community along it. Many players of Wurm want to be left alone. My place I have set up was really just my self for a bit, then the road went in and the now I have neighbors on either side of me. Their perimeters touching my perimeter. Players will buy a deed size just large enough for them to do stuff on, but want to use all the land around their own borders as their own. They don't want people next to them. Other players are viewed as ruining the area or the view they have. Players just want to be left alone they don't want people around them. While you build your road, players will create alts so that they can put a deed up right in the middle of the path you have created. The Deliverance server, in my opinion, has the best looking and most well maintained roads out of all the servers. Thing is, those highways are not very straight. Most of the highways are three tiles wide and a number of them are sanded on each side with 2 tiles of sand each. So a total of a 7 tile wide road. What the sand does is allow you to see monsters easily down the road, while also slowing them down when ever they are in the sand. When I first created the highway I still maintain today. I planned out a route. Even looked for a player who's deed was along the path of the road for a whole month before I even started the road project. That guy didn't log in till 2 days after I had completed the highway. That was a bunch of drama there. I built the highway five tiles away from his perimeter to give him space and respect his area. He tore up the road for two weeks which then required me to change a whole 100 tile length of road. The GMs didn't do any thing about it. So that told me real fast that Highways really are not protected. Also, don't bring up the issue in Kchat, the players will be in support of the guy who is taking the road apart. Also, a new tactic I have seen being employed to remove roads, and also really screws up the length of how a straight portion of a highway is setting a deed token up right on the highway it self. Then rerouting the highway around the deed. And it is done half ass, no leveling, one tile wide, at least they use cobble stone. I bet if they could get away with just packing dirt they would. When you set a deed up, you don't need permission from a GM do any thing with the highway. Then they let the deed die naturally to make it look like it was a legit deed, but it was short lived with upkeep any ways. So now, you have a place where the road goes around some place that never had a reason. You will see this happen where no one really lives along the path, its one of those roads that designed to connect one player who lives way out in the boonies to the rest of civilization. Something like on Independence or Xanadu. They will set up a deed half way down this road then not like the highway right through there deed so they reroute it around their deed. When you do start to make your highway, once you put bricks down, you will have to get permission from the GMs to do any modification. This includes if you want to change the cobblestone to marble or slabs. Or if you even want to level the road. So if you plan to do it right. You will need to cut the trees for the path, do the leveling, (hope some prick doesn't set a deed up in the middle of your project) and then put the paving down. Paving should be the last thing you do. Well putting lamps is the last thing, if you decide to do lamps, but that is an expensive endeavor. Another thing I should point out is that once the road is done, people will move in along it. Most people will put their deed right up to the edge of the road. So if you didn't level it before they moved in and they put a wall along the highway, your pretty much just boned at that point. Also, when this does happen, if oyu have lamps along the highway and it falls onto the new deed those lamps get re-purposed by the new land owner. So don't invest heavily into high quality lamps. Ya, not really the case from my experience. Many players don't ask for permission to modify a highway, they just do it any ways. As to what a clear flow is, a 1 tile wide cobble stone road around the outside of the perimeter is clear enough Which then gets destroyed later because its only one tile wide. Another reason why deed owners don't want a road going next to them. They want to be able to have the option KOS legit troublemakers Ah, this rule. What you could do with this one is lets say you decide that you like the highway that goes to the shore and its been a place where the public was using to park boats and then they use the highway to get inland to their house. Something like on Xanadu. What you do, is put a deed over this public harbor and then at the inland side of your deed where the highway goes through, you can now lock off the highway because you are a terminus. Even if the highway went through a small valley in the mountain. Its yours now. No more having to worry about the public coming though that area any more. Then what you do is make the wall and buildings as high quality as possible then let the deed drop. A year later it would still be there. Unless a determined player tried to bash it down. I touched on this, and it still stands. What happens here is a player runs through a perimeter on a highway and gets attacked and then does a support ticket to the GM. It's a bit of drama for a short time but the deed owner wins this round. Thing is, if the highway was never there, there would have never been a reason to put said player on KOS. PLAYERS WANT TO BE LEFT ALONE. And they don't want you any where with in 50 tiles of their deed. This rule is a preemptive thing by the GMs. I know that the GM's as a majority hate roads. They really hate having their time wasted with all the road drama that there is. For every modification I make to the road I maintain I send in a support ticket. Which then gets reviewed by a CM then gets sent to a GM. It used to be a whole week before I got any approval, but the last three times it was with in 6 hours and the last one the GM showed up 2 minutes later. Because I know that most GMs hate roads, I wouldn't be surprised if a system gets implement where you have to pay upkeep for a road as well. Silver, raw materials I don't know what but if this is what they are doing for bridge on highways. I can see it being put on highways. And already the GMs don't want to be bothered with protecting a built highway because they would have to do it one tile at a time. For me to fill 150 lamps along the highway I maintain takes 30 minutes. That is a long road. There are so many tips and things I have encountered that I can't remember to place them on this post.
  7. In Short 5 speed +Strong and healthy +Certain Spark It has fleeter movement than normal. It has a strong body. It has lightning movement. It can carry more than average. It has very strong leg muscles. It looks unusually strong and healthy. It has a certain spark in its eyes. Will settle with an 8 trait as well. Even if it is a negative as I have access to a Fo Priest. The horse needs to be a male, and is of the Gold coloring. I live on the Deliverance server and will come to you for the horse. It must have the traits listed above.
  8. I had every thing locked down on my deed so some one couldn't call the guards on my champ cats that i had penned. I logged in with an alt and there the cats were dead. Replaced the cats and the next day, that cat was dead. Replaced that cat, and the cat was dead two days later. So you can still have your aggressive animals killed even if you lock the deed the down so people can't do it. I can't reproduce it but they were killed by the guards. The last time, one of my neighbors was able to see the guy call for help in local. Got the GM's involved. Apparently its a new account, not even out of its 24 hours noob phase yet. Said he didn't know the rules so the GMs let him go. I haven't replaced the cats yet, hard to find those things. And I'm not in the mood right now to loose any thing else. Was thinking about a champ wolf I tamed but then decided against it.
  9. This ship, the Cog, all though it carries a lot of stuff. Is perhaps the worst ship out of them all to load stuff into. To get a crate, you have to be so close to it that you can't see it. And then it gets really picky as to if it will pick up. If its in a good mood it might decide to work with you. But you have sweet talk it for months for it to be in a good mood for you that once when you really need it to be. Which is just about never. I am looking for help in loading crates into a Cog. I first tried loading it at a dock. Kept getting you need to be closer message. Then when that finally went away, I got the You must be on the same floor level as the large crate in order to load it. So I tried moving the crate into the water as far as I could get the wagon, then moved the ship over it, and still got that message. Then I tried putting it on a ramp at different locations and still got that message. I really would like to get this thing loaded and after jerking around with it for 2 hours I am logging off for a bit out of frustration. Any kind of help would be appreciated. Currently there are only 10 crates on it and I was going to load another 8 onto it.
  10. I would be interested in trying a oak forest there JudusX. Like I said though, I backed out of that project. Just rode past GD just now as I type this. It has been put back to dirt and looks like trees are being planted, and moss put in as well.
  11. I would agree with you JudusX, Oaks would look real nice. I had considered it when I first started removing the birch but had decided against it due to a oak forest I had planted and tended to off deed down in the south. Logged in one day so I could go pick sprouts from them and all 40 of them had been cut down. Left the trees there, not one had been chopped up. Because they take months to grow, and are newbie magnets to begin with. I figured GD would not be the best place for such a forest. I only live about 5 minutes on foot from GD so I ran by to see what has happened to the place. The east side has been turned into a desert. The side that had the birch on it. It looks like some one is coming back and putting maple down in places. I didn't want a desert there at all. Yes a beach could be worked with but its the spawns that I'm worried with. Scorpions, trolls, crocks. On the east side of the highway there are still hundreds of birch. I was only clearing the west side of the highway up to Greendog. It isn't like the new guys wouldn't have had trees to cut down. Just so you could see GD from the road. The west side of GD is a diverse forest but because that side isn't a major highway, people don't notice it. Though I run that way rather often as well and find plenty of bodies so I know the new guys know about it.
  12. That was kind of the idea wipeout. It didn't matter what was put back in its place. I was using bushes along the road at first but once those ran out was thinking about maple/pine/ceder. Figured a mixture would work really well as it would give a choice as to what to cut. And a different look to the forest. Oak and Willow is a really bad idea as I have found that the new guys will cut those first. And we all know how long those take to cut down. No reason for me to keep doing it though. Tpikol took out the 200 planted bushes and put in birch again. I also had about 300 tiles cleared out from the birch with nothing on it yet so all has been returned to what it was. Still had another 1k of trees to cut down, but wont be continuing the project. Still free logs there for any one who wants them.
  13. I'm not doing this for a war. I went down to take out another line of trees, and all the bushes I had planted, and the trees I had cleared out, had been replanted. Tpikol was there planting the trees and after a brief discussion, his reason was becuase he wants the new players to have trees. [03:36:38] <Theonis> Hi there Tpikol [03:36:49] <Tpikol> hi [03:37:04] <Theonis> is there a reason why you ar eputting birtch back? [03:39:17] <Tpikol> birch grows the fastest [03:39:44] <Theonis> this is true, but that isn't a reason for those here. [03:40:06] <Tpikol> need fast growing treesfor new players to cut [03:40:31] <Theonis> they don't cut thiese trees at all. Something more useful could be used. Like pine or ceder [03:41:46] <Tpikol> how [03:41:56] <Tpikol> pine its the same as birch and cedar much slowler [03:42:58] <Theonis> pines gives more logs per tree cut. And yes ceder is slower, but hardly do people cut trees down here. [03:43:06] <Tpikol> no it doesnt So ya, I'm not about to go back and clear all the sapling out. Not worth a war over. Would have preferred something different though.
  14. After talking to neighbors for months in this area. And a few failed attempts to get this completed. I am down at Greendog continuing a friends work on the area. Ever time we get started, we get distracted and come back to this two weeks later and find all our hard work has been grown over by the birch again. So the Genocide of the Birch is once again underway. I have no use of the logs and so you may feel free to come on by and take as many as you want. My wood cutting is around 42 as of this writing. This project is about a line of trees a day at minimum as I'm not going to do a all day thing here cutting them down. A line a day and take out all the saplings that take root in the area I cleared the day before. As to why I'm cutting them down. These suckers were not here till that bug happened almost a year ago and Greendog became a Birch Forrest. Now the plan is to put smaller bushes in so you can actually see the capital from the highway. Was thinking about using a bunch of grapes but I lack those right now. As for you Fo priests screaming defiler, meh, I'm replanting other things that I think will look nicer. Would have used willow trees but two problems there. Wont be able to see Greendog, and two, we already know they wouldn't last longer then 1 week.
  15. Add Theonis to the Fighters List please.
  16. Nope didn't miss a 2 at all. Was the recipient of a rare bone and no making this up, got 17 pms with the 5 to 8 range for silver for it. After the 17th PM I just put a message up saying I used it on a pile of dirt so I could sac it. Any ways, was not expecting a 10s price range for a decoration. So I'll bow out of this and chalk it up to being noob to this level of Wurm.
  17. Ya, decoration. And I want it to say dragon on it. I do know they all look the same though. And I'm not expecting a quick buy so its why I kinda narrowed it down. As for price. Well that is the thing. At the dragon raids every one wants that rare bone that drops but the skull is over looked. Then people offer about 5 to 8 silver for the rare bone. So The skull has got to be cheaper then that price range. I like to give fair price but it is really hard to say what is fair.
  18. Looking to Buy, messed up the subject title. I do not care as to what color the Dragon Skull belonged to. Just has to be a Dragon Skull. Oh Deliverance but I will come and get it my self. Not going to Chaos for this.
  19. How much are you asking for the supreme brass hanging lamp 60ql? Also how much for the Skiller Steel Shovel?
  20. Theonis will be there Bright Eyed and Bushy tailed. The player, who knows. 70FS.
  21. Xanadu can not be the only reason as to why Deli has a low population. I was only stating what I have seen since I came back. As for having a group of people to talk to. I have to agree with you on that as well. Reason why I was saying leaving my current alliance to join another one that is more local to my main deed. I have three deeds going now so I have no plans of leaving Deli. Main Deed: A back country cabin on a lake side with the woods around it. (deeds around deed have gone the strip mall route) 2nd Deed: Grand project that has way to much dirt that is still needed before I can get to building any thing. About 40k more dirt I estimate. 3rd Deed: No clue yet, just in a awesome location where the previous owner put a lot of work into. Sure the buildings are gone but who cares about that.
  22. Having a really slow day today so figured I would put up a post mainly on what I have seen and how I play. No reason to read past this point unless you too are having a slow day. I have been around for a while now. Well not true in a way. I come and go. I was first brought to the game by a friend who was looking for some one to play with. He actually brought about 10 of us into the game. With in three months every one had left. This would includ my self. At the time I was leading a faction of players on another game and that was were my attention was. This game was more of a distraction as the ability to create appealed to me. I didn't have a sub but during my first few months I figured I would create a highway. I wasn't subbed so I know, a lot of missed skill gain. I learned many things from creating that highway, for example. That people will run to the very end of the road and then put a deed up, which requires you to reroute the plan you had. Also, what used to be an area that had no population, becomes quickly populated as people don't wounder to far from the roads. Once public right of ways are put into place. You are screaming "come come, move here, move here". I have ever since been slowly upgrading this highway, leveling, three lanes wide. Making it look professionally done. I can't remove it, but I sure as can make it look nice. Also only being able to work on a section after people leave the area. Now into the main reason of this thread. Deli population. You see I started playing years ago but I leave for about 6 months then come back for about two months. That seems to be my set pattern. I can only do the same action so many times before it feels like I am not actuly getting any where and move onto another game. As to my point, last time I was here, was during the may months. Xanadu was just around the corner and many of my friends were talking about checking it out. At the time, I had set up a second deed, close to the shore but not on it. I couldn't find any suitable area to actually invest the time in or that would be convenient for access from both sea and land. Just about the entire shore line had a token up. And the areas that didn't was difficult terrain and sandwiched between tokens already. The place was about 50 tiles from the ocean and had already had some one work on it before. Something easy to maintain (turned into big project <.<). I left the game and just came back in December. I found that where I was parking my boat, at a dock at the end of the highway was actually recently deeded and I had to get a GM to get my boat back because the guy bought the place, filled in the area and then fenced it off. I am so glad that people can't destroy a boat if it is on their deed. Now sea access is now much harder to do with my second deed but I will be keeping it any ways. So when I was traveling between xanadu and Deli, a friend asked me to check out his new digs on the east coast of Deli. I didn't really have the time as I was ready to go to sleep, but did it any ways. What I noticed is that many deeds along the coasts have now dried up. I claimed a spot that some one had put many months into terraforming. Even in-land, many of the deeds along the highway from my lake deed to my southern sea deed have dried up. A lot of the protection along that highway has also vanished. The area I have most difficulty with is right there by Shark Lake. You get stuck in this bowl and can't escape the hell hounds, trolls, and wolves that accumulate in that area. A new deed has gone up there but for now there isn't any protection along that highway. I may end up putting another guard tower up along the road but that is time I am not yet ready to sink into that project. Many of the people who were in my alliance have moved to Xanadu. I even plan on leaving that alliance to join one that is much closer to the home deed. What I have noticed though is that Deli used to have 150+ people on regularly to just about 30 now. I like having my pick of nice real-estate. But I kinda miss having people to talk with or get something that I am not skilled in. I have no plans, nor intentions of leaving Deli. Only way I'm going is when Rolf gives the news that because the server is such a low pop server he is pulling the plug on it and I need to move.
  23. New Deed: Theoterra X-50 on the line of Y-16, Y-17
  24. From what time I have spent on Xanadu, the new guys to the game realy do not like the players who are coming over from other islands. Friends of mine over on that server, (players that moved there) say they keep having thier stuff lifted if left off deed. The stuff that goes missing seems to be stuff that vets can make but the the new guys can not. So with a post like this happening, it would appear that the server has turned into the new guys stealing from the old time players.
