  1. As a long time member of the Maple Island deed community, I have to say I don't support this bridge. However I don't own any of the deeds near the planned bridge sites. But I am good friends with those who do own them, and I will stand by their decision what ever it is. If they don't want a bridge, then I will join any effort to prevent it. We like our quiet island as it is.
  2. I'm an indie dev myself (MUCH smaller time than Rolf. just getting started really. haha). But i can say that "switching engines" is not a thing that you can do. Especially not with a game as complex and "established" as this. What you are basically saying when you say "switch engines" is "take all the 3d models and textures and sounds, toss them in unity. then rewrite EVERY line of code to make the game work again as it was". And it will be a complete rewrite because you'll have to handle things through the Unityengine library, and not the established systems the devs have created as they've built this game. Unity is also rather spotty. It has lots of limitations that you never see until you hit on one of them. its not so bad for standalone/desktop games, but if you tried to make a browser based game like wurm, you would quickly find it to be impossible, because unity just doesn't allow certain things in the web engine. The best course of action for Wurm is to continue on the custom engine path and continue optimization.
  3. if you have the room and the extra dirt, you can build up a ramp with dirt by starting at the bottom and working your way up. would be the fastest method by far. surface mining will work, but if your working alone, and dont have 80+ mining and a killer pick, it could take months.
  4. im split on this suggestion. once i get a farm started, ive never had the need to repack any tiles. even if you keep animals in the farm pen, if they eat up a farm tile, it should turn into packed dirt, which you can just cultivate and replant. as for prepping the farmland to start with, it should already be dirt, and if its not, the fastest way to make it dirt, is to stand in the middle of 4 tiles, dig once, then drop that dirt. instant 4 tiles dirt, instead of 8 actions to make them dirt (pack x4 and cultivate x4). but on the otherhand, it make sense for Fo priest to be able to fully manipulate the earth since digging and farming is their thing. so why not let them pack the ground too? thats my view. dont know why they need to pack, but dont see any reason why they shouldn't be able to.
  5. these are a couple of good guys. cant go wrong joining up with them.
  6. Avatar of Fo

is this on indie? i didn't think those things spawned on the PvE servers.
  7. hard to say it without sounding mean. but they are pixels. not real spiders. all phobias can be overcome with controlled exposure. have you ever thought of using wurm spiders as a form of therapy to help you get over your fear? hiding from it will never help you. as for real spiders, all species are poisonous. but only a few species pose a threat to humans due to most spiders having very short fangs. so cheer up, if a spider touches you, chances are in your favor that its just a harmless accident for the both of you.
  8. where was this mine? a friend of mine lost a similar amount of silver and a drake set after being stuck in a mine about 3 years ago. lol
  9. if the game is keeping you from doing something you want to do in life. be it education, search for a better job, create stronger relationships with friends or romantic interest, then by all means quit. but if your playing the game in free time that would otherwise be spent watching TV or Youtube. or you have no desire to create more of a social life and you would sit there wasting the time anyway. what does it hurt? i take a break every few months. the game just gets boring to me, or i accomplish a goal that i set for myself (building a huge mansion, or one of every ship, etc), and i just loose focus of where to go next and sit there staring at my food bar draining down instead of actually playing. thats when its time to top up the deed upkeep, put all your tools and important bits on your character inventory, and log out till you want to play again. Rosedragon posted a video in this thread which raises some important issues, and hit very close to home for me. in our society, we have gotten so overly corporate and homogenized, that the individual does not matter. if you walked out of your job tomorrow, they would not even notice your absence. you don't matter. your contribution is generic and anyone can fill your shoes. i think i keep coming back to wurm for this very reason. its the closest thing to virtual reality survival that has come about yet. in wurm you can start with nothing and build everything with your own 2 hands. it throws back to a primitive time for humanity where the individual was everything because you were all that you had. in wurm your actions effect the environment in a visible way. i would not say that wurm is an addiction for me. its more of a therapy. without some release from the stress and tension of modern society, my caveman brain would go insane.
  10. There we go again...

indie came up for a minute, then crashed again. hopefully got my horses into the pen before it went down. lol
  11. servers down for anyone else?
  12. well. first of all. i think the glitch should be fixed, but i don't believe you have to break current mechanics to do so. flying is a silly idea. and honestly, i think other issues in the game need to be addressed before introducing a whole new dimension to travel. take a look at how much more you can do with ships, for instance. then once all that is sorted. MAYBE you can make dragons ride-able and flyable. and perhaps add airships for those who cant access a dragon. but they should be a rare and special thing. perhaps requiring as much material and time to create as 5 Caravels, and require insane skill level to start, nevermind actually use. we're talking end game ultimate goal for master level players.
  13. i may send my mining alt that way this weekend. still need help?
  14. i suggested this over a year ago, seems like it would be easy to impliment, just apply a modifier to the speed varialbe of the ship depending on what sail setting your on. and have a slight timer between speed settings. maybe 1 minute before the speed takes effect. or less. and make it sequential and a key bind. so from furrled sails, you click once, and get 1/4. click again to get 1/2, click again for 3/4 and again for full, same in reverse for hauling the sails in. would make sailing a bit more engauging and force pilots to plan ahead when they are aproacing their berth. perhaps make sailing a skill based on time spent moving on the water instead of actions, the higher your skill, the faster the sails can switch between speed settings. as for helping speed in a headwind, the original suggestion is silly. you can tack very easily in this game. the only exception is when your going through a canal and the wind is directily against you. which is rare. but the idea has much merit for increasing ship handling ability.
  15. Ship Building

There is a market for ships, you just have to be online when someone is looking for one. lol that said, as Zakerak said, mass production is more profitable until you get really high ship building skill and can bang them out with minimal failures to attach (the part that takes up the majority of your time). and even then its a massive time sink for a comparitivly small profit. i can build a sailboat in a few hours, but theyre only worth 1.5 to 2s if your lucky, and in the same time i can cut 2000 planks or stone bricks, and have a much easier sell.
