  1. As I'm sitting here drinking Linden Tea (which is made from the blossoms of the Linden tree) I'm wondering why we have Linden trees in Wurm but not harvestables from this amazing tree. The flower blossoms can be made into tea. The leaves are edible and crunchy and sweet. It's long overdue to make use of this awesome tree in game. We have the tree already. Please add the edibles.
  2. A permanent non fading compass and improve improve are about the greatest things ever that won't actually affect the economy any in a negative way, but are nice little QoLs. Also whomever made that awesome crop mod where they never die. Bdew maybe? This means that if you can't get back online for some reason all your work isn't magically wasted just because you couldn't log on at 4 AM to rake and harvest your frickin' digital crops.
  3. Most of the people opposing this would be high end sellers on current WO servers. But we're not talking about current WO servers in this thread. We're talking about a new STEAM server. For that new STEAM server, definitely remove priest limitations. Most newbies will have no idea how to even be a priest in the first place, and once they DO figure it out they have to grind the skills, which is no small feat. Playing on a WU server for over a year, and not just focusing on endlessly grinding it, I think my toon has 60 channeling and I can do some paltry enchants, but I STILL bought the 'good stuff' from the master crafters when it was available, because I sure as heck was not going to spend weeks of my life grinding the skills to make those higher enchants. So there would still always be a market for both higher ql items for people who didn't want to grind it out, as well as a market for lower, cheaper items. To sum: I don't have a dog in the race in current WO, but would like to see priest limitations removed for a STEAM WO server.
  4. Yes! Launch a completely new server on STEAM on a totally disconnected cluster!
  5. Wurmhole nailed it. With a subscription model you feel 'obligated' to play, whether you really want to or not. Especially if you've plunked down a 6 month sub. That's no way to do it in 2019. Subscriptions may have made sense 10 years ago, and what works well for YOU as a financial income model, doesn't work very well for your players. There are other ways, as others have suggested, to get the same or greater income without using the subscription model. Many people these days, myself included, absolutely despise subscription based services. You can do it better.
  6. Nailed it, right here. This 100x.
  7. I would greatly enjoy a new start where you could actually be on even and equal footing (personal gaming experience aside) where you aren't competing with 10 year old accounts that are cranking out 90ql enchanted items and selling them for bargain basement prices. New players would actually have a chance to be a PART of the economy, instead of having the whole thing utterly monopolized by accounts older than most people's kids. I see this as only a positive thing, and will try it out, if it goes forward. To arms! [21:31:13] <Freedom Isles tower guard> I come as well, old troll.
  8. You think if WU just poofed tomorrow that all those players would magically just go back to WO? Hardly. I sure wouldn't. And I even have Maple Bacon Pancakes named after me! People in WU tend to be far more casual that people in WO. This is not always the case, but it's pretty accurate as a trend. When I played WO, I basically lived in the game, for many hours a day, as many other players I knew did. WU tends to be more of a play when you feel like it kind of thing, vs a 'Wurm is life' vibe that WO has. Note, that unless I'm mistaken from a comment he gave a few years back, Rolf himself has never actually PLAYED Wurm. But tells us all to 'Keep on Wurming'. lol. He knew the game was a life sink when he made it. Which is why he never played it himself. Not to micturate on anyone's toes here, but people that don't have a whole lot of time to invest, but who still want to play the game, will play WU. People ho have more time to invest or are maybe retired and financially independent without any other overriding factors, will play Wurm Online. And the gaming climate has changed. Most people aren't willing to put 10-18 hours into a video game daily. That's where WU shines. Your deed is typically not going to poof if you don't live in the game. Unless you're playing one of those crazy 1x servers. Then gods help you!
  9. I hope some good comes of this change of hands and WO has a brighter future. But if I'm to be honest I'm more than a bit hacked that things like distant trees won't be coming to WU. More than a few broken promises in the mix here. I get that WO is the cash cow and is what is paying the bills, but it's still possible to do that, just delay the updates to WU by a few months, even if it's 6 months. But to not update WU at all with the major changes. Well, that just sucks.
  10. I think it's a fantastic concept. On the server I play on there is no blacksmith, as all the blacksmiths have quit, then someone else does it for a few weeks or months, then quits, so finding even 50ql items becomes next to impossible. It got so bad that our admin actually became the blacksmith on his player character, just to have a few available items. But that shouldn't have to happen. On actual well populated servers with a thriving economy (if there is such a thing these days) there would be less of a use. Then you simply don't install the mod. But on lower populated servers where the people who DO play are on different timezones and rarely have crossover, the personal weaponsmith would be a boon, and it wouldn't detract from the economy, because there isn't one!
  11. Those are some amazing visuals. Well done! Very much looking forward to seeing that implemented. Aye! Enough visual puns. :)
  12. With 1.9 coming out soonish, is there an easy way to back up characters/map on a WU server so it doesn't get wiped out? It seems every time there's been an official update, and it updates the client and server the maps and characters are wiped. Now it's only my little test toons, so no big deal, but what's the quick and dirty way to avoid this wipe? Do you need to export/import the toons/map data from somewhere into the new version?
  13. I don't even have words for this. So incredibly sad. Rest well brother.
  14. Hopefully one of our great community modders can answer this. What would be the best place to start to eventually make a mod for WU? I've a background in programming, though it has been a (not small) number of years. But, just treat me like a total noob here. What languages would I need to pick up, and where should one even start? Thank you very much for your time.
  15. Years ago now, a roadmap for future development plans was suggested. After a long period of refusal, a roadmap was laid out, then apparently almost entirely abandoned. Players get nervous because there's no roadmap. There's things the devs want, there's things the players want, and the future is a big open question mark in the eyes of most of the players. Without structure and stability, people tend to lose interest, or they don't see any point in continuing their investment. Wurm is typically an investment by a player over multiple years for their deed and characters. It's not something they take lightly. The basic response that people are tired of is akin to "Well, yea we have plans, but we can't really tell you what they are. You'll just have to trust us." It's not that the players don't trust the devs. It's that they want transparency, which, frankly, ya'll kind of suck at. Lay out a roadmap, and players will either support it or they won't. And maybe, just maybe, they'll have some good ideas on where to take the game. Considering they're the one's who have actually played it for years.
  16. Wait.... the best guy to come along in two years was a volunteer and wasn't even PAID for the awesome contributions he made? Jesus.
  17. Thanks for all the awesome, Sindusk. Your work and dedication has been amazing. I see the remaining peeps as just defending their position instead of taking a long hard look at that position. It's expected. But sad. The longer someone has been a part of something, the more they have invested in defending it, instead of just swallowing the ego and fixing it. If your customers keep saying... hey bub, this isn't right. You can bet your boots, it's not right. The customer is not your enemy or your opponent. Sindusk's post is what's wrong with basically every game and every community ever in existence. Somewhere along the line it turns into an 'us' (the development team) vs 'them' (the customers/players) then everything goes to pot from there on out forevermore. Until someone comes along and points it out and tries to fix it. Who's then usually cast out and/or crucified. And so the cycle continues.
  18. The keybindings.txt writes an entry, that is to say, a duplicate entry every time the client is loaded. I don't think it's 'fixed' if it keeps doing it. Thanks folks! Post Scriptum: That was the problem. Thing was almost 6 MB for both files. Every time I'd switch between an alt, it'd just take forever to load.
  19. Just within the last two days my WU client has been loading extraordinarily slowly. It'll take over a minute to load, when before it was just a few seconds. Same with changing a character. If I select any other than the currently selected character, it'll take over a full minute to pull up and it'll just hang. This used to be instantaneous just a few days ago. Wurm Online client is not affected, and loads normally. And no other steam game BUT WU does this now. Possible causes? Has anyone else experienced this?
  20. After arriving at the specified coordinates, I found a corbita... [18:48:06] A ship with square sails, steered using two side rudders connected to each other. It is locked with a lock of very poor quality. It is made from cedarwood. It could be improved with a log. Ql: 7.190153, Dam: 0.0. It is moored here. The name of the owner, Elsijn, has been etched in the stern. Corbita name is 'Meh'. Not my boat. Thank for the tip though, I appreciate it. EDIT: Nevermind, I found it. There was another corbita a bit past the Lowhou deed south and east of it, and I found my Corbita! I have no idea how a locked, moored corbita ended up on the other side of the world when it was moored close to Clay Harbor.
  21. Missing Corbita 'The Exile' Last seen on Pristine anchored at the deed now known as 'New Stonehaven', roughly I14. If seen, please contact Belrindor. Thank You.
  22. This looks like a fantastic idea. It would need to be balanced of course, and perhaps adjusted after a trial run. But all the systems should already be in place to allow for something like this, as you are basically just reverse 'imping' an item, and code would just need to be written to 'remove' the item at the end of the de-imp.
  23. That compiled list was very handy, thank you, Ostentatio.
  24. I see now that I misread one of the earlier posts. I thought it reverted back to the old system. Alas, that is not the case. Cedarwood looks so... Linden now... But, I'll have to experiment and find new looks I like. Thanks!
  25. "That's right, wood effects are coming back, and in force! From bee hives, to chairs, to buckets, bsbs, fsbs, carts, crate racks, catapults, and beyond, Saroman has been hard at work adding in the effects of all wood types on wooden models. His workshop is a gigantic mess of all things wooden, with his friendly supervisor looking on." Is this still happening???? Oh for my willow stuff to look willow again!
