  1. Could have been worse. Once the entire database went kaput and people lost everything. Chasing down a handful of horses is nothing compared to that, and with that memory (along with many others and many threads like this one) as armor, I'm sure the devs are rightly enjoying their weekends and not stressing too much about community angst.
  2. I'd wait for a few weeks. The game's a mess right now.
  3. That is great! It's meant to be a whimsical song, not a malicious one. Sometime, many moons from now, we'll look back and have a good chuckle at these little bugs, and barely remember them. But there will be other, spectacular things in their place.
  4. I've been playing this wonderful game for almost exactly one year. I love it, have had great fun, and really admire the work the devs do. That said, some sincere needling is in order, because they have been botching the (admittedly hard) job of late, in important ways. So, on behalf of the aggrieved players at their wits end in houses without rooftops, hand feeding their animals and praying for the spectre of disease to pass over them, I dedicate this song to the Wurm Community. May it bring you mirth: On the first day of Christmas, the dev team gave to me: A bug causing horses to flee! On the second day of Christmas, the dev team gave to me: Two frames a second, and a bug causing horses to flee! On the third day of Christmas, the dev team gave to me: PR excuses, two frames a second, and a bug causing horses to flee! On the fourth day of Christmas, the dev team gave to me: No animations, PR excuses, two frames a second, and a bug causing horses to flee! On the fifth day of Christmas, the dev team gave to me: ME-MO-RY LEEEAKS! No animations, PR excuses, two frames a second, and a bug causing horses to flee! On the sixth day of Christmas, the dev team gave to me: Mythical slate, ME-MO-RY LEEEAKS! No animations, PR excuses, two frames a second, and a bug causing horses to flee! On the seventh day of Christmas, the dev team gave to me: Fancy new rooftops, mythical slate, ME-MO-RY LEEEAKS! No animations, PR excuses, two frames a second, and a bug causing horses to flee! On the eighth day of Christmas, the dev team gave to me: Rubberbanding hedges, fancy new rooftops, mythical slate, ME-MO-RY LEEEAKS! No animations, PR excuses, two frames a second, and a bug causing horses to flee! On the ninth day of Christmas, the dev team gave to me: Floors to my ankles, rubberbanding hedges, fancy new rooftops, mythical slate, ME-MO-RY LEEEAKS! No animations, PR excuses, two frames a second, and a bug causing horses to flee! On the tenth day of Christmas, the dev team gave to me: Ships at odd angles, floors to my ankles, rubberbanding hedges, fancy new rooftops, mythical slate, ME-MO-RY LEEEAKS! No animations, PR excuses, two frames a second, and a bug causing horses to flee! On the eleventh day of Christmas, the dev team gave to me: Multiple stories, ships at odd angles, floors to my ankles, rubberbanding hedges, fancy new rooftops, mythical slate, ME-MO-RY LEEEAKS! No animations, PR excuses, two frames a second, and a bug causing horses to flee! On the twelfth day of Christmas, the dev team gave to me: Tweets about parties, multiple stories, ships at odd angles, floors to my ankles, rubberbanding hedges, fancy new rooftops, mythical slate, ME-MO-RY LEEEAKS! No animations, PR excuses, two frames a second, and a bug causing horses to flee! Merry Christmas, Code Club.
  5. I will ask everyone in the Northmere to please keep an eye out for your missing horses, Harvest, and see to it that they're returned safely if any of us find them. It was a pretty hard day for a lot of people =/ Regards,
  6. Good news (for me!) Someone has stepped in to help, so I'll be closing this thread. Thanks to the folks who offered their help and advice.
  7. Why are you worried about this? Convert to Magranon Build Magranon altars that cover every one of your walls and buildings with his aura. Then, post a forum thread or rally the Magranon priests in your community to cast Ritual of the Sun. If you cannot find enough Magranon priests to perform the Ritual, send me a PM. I'm pretty sure the Northmere Alliance on Celebration has enough Magranon priests to cast it without outside help.
  8. Do you have a sculpting wand sitting proudly in a backpack somewhere, gathering dust? Maybe you got it for a big cave canal project that you finished some time ago, but swore never to part with it? If so, I'd like to rent it for a minor job, it should not take very long at all. One corner needs to be lowered 3 dirt, and only a wand will do. When you need one, you need one. Please PM me on the forums if interested, I can pay in coin or large quantities of high quality clay and sand (~q89). I'm on Celebration and can compensate you for travel time as well. Happy Holidays! Edit: Help is on the way! Please close/lock this thread.
  9. I was just out here a few days ago, and found an EXCELLENT skilling hatchet for a very reasonable price. Kwik-E-Mart is usually the first place I look for enchanted tools in the NE. To get there, hike to East Outpost, put a knife between your teeth, and swim north past the Ghostwood. Look for the eerie green lights. The spectral wolf will guide you.
  10. I schedule my lunch breaks at work so that I can get on the phone with my buddy and talk about wurm politics.
  11. He stated in the Q&A that he was planning this.
  12. I don't live in the backwoods. Abandoned settlement demolition, road removal, and wilderness restoration is what I spend the bulk of my time doing of late. Fighting the sprawl of ruin, and preserving the local wilderness has been great for my skill and strength, and also helps me complete my long-term projects as I amass resources recovered in my druidic forays. I was pointing out something that is true, not advocating for or against the idea. The burden of proof does not lie with the skeptics on this forum.
  13. I want to be sure I correctly understand what you're asking. You would like each tile corner on each map to shift its surface dirt and sand to a nearby corner that is lower than itself, on a regular basis, perhaps once per day per corner on average? One observation: Independence and Chaos each have roughly 16.8 million tile corners. That's quite a lot of processing power, I/O, and memory consumption for the servers.
  14. Kyklops Slaying

Edit: Rather than try to explain anyone's reasoning, I'll just wish everyone who attempts to slay the thing the best of luck. Cheers!
  15. I'm curious if the release is everything people hoped it would be, and how it has changed their opinion of the game.
  16. Oh man, flashback city. When I was an instructor, it was: "Stance, knock, extend, draw, anchor, tighten and hold, aim, release, and follow through." We used to make the kids chant those words over and over again while making their bowstrings. Good times. Edit: Lest you worry, it was a summer camp, not some paramilitary cult. I taught horseback riding, archery, blacksmithing, and candlemaking. Time of my life.
  17. Long bows can accelerate a heavier arrow to a higher velocity than short bows can, imparting more kinetic energy and ultimately delivering a more forceful attack than a short bow can. Armor penetration capability should involve a combination of arrow weight, arrowhead type, and the material used in the arrowhead. One thing people consistently don't seem to understand is how brittle iron is in comparison to steel. I used to hang out at the local iron pours, in the back alley with what amounts to heavy leather armor and a face shield, breaking old iron radiators salvaged from demolished homes with a heavy maul all afternoon, into quarter sized pieces of iron that were easier to melt down for our sculpture class. You can hit an iron pan with a hammer and it'll break like a pottery vase. Steel doesn't do that. I think updates to arrows should come along with updates to different armor materials. A steel war arrow should be heavier than a flight arrow, have a shorter range, and therefore excel at punching through iron mail than an iron flight arrow does. Flight arrows should be lighter, have greater range, and not have anywhere near the armor penetration. Flight arrows would therefore be more useful with short and medium bows than war arrows, as smaller bows wouldn't be able to impart the velocity to the heavier arrows. War arrows would be heavier, more resource intensive, and require medium or long bows to use. Medium bows would produce lower range and less damage than a long bow would. So why then would anyone use short bows? I think perhaps it's time that medium and longbows have a minimum strength requirement, and either draw time or accuracy be related to the body strength of the archer. Simply put, a longbow has a very heavy draw (historians estimate that these bows required between 81 and 200 lbs of force to draw). Who do you know who could draw 130 lbs and hold it at anchor long enough to aim? Perhaps short and medium bows emphasize body control and long bows emphasize strength. They're not just the same weapon in different sizes, they're completely different tools for different purposes.
