  1. The FCC is the main problem. "A set of suggestions that may or may not be enforced, all based on a very very subjective approach". So yes, GM's are having trouble enforcing the FCC... now if we had RULES.... "Smash this, you get such penalty. Break that, you get such other penalty. You've been warned, have a nice day."
  2. Because I'd be too busy filling my perimeter enclosures with hellhounds, that's why.
  3. I'll pay up to 1c per tile of highway, not a penny more.... but I would want it protected BY CODE so that only i can modify it. Yarr.
  4. Well Bob, that's the downside of taking money from people in exchange for something. Customers will have certain expectations, opinions, and demands regarding the product in order to continue paying for it. All in all Rolf's lucky, it's worse in person.... you have to SMILE too.
  5. If I may suggest for one of the next stress tests, just to really push the limits.... pre-spawn a bunch of random houses all over the place, give us body control 21, spawn bunch of horses, and have a few dozen supreme rowing boats at the spawn points too.
  6. If you wanted to connect Pristine and Release to the world... Xanadu's a good server to put in-between.. yarr.
  7. A few terabytes on a powerful side PC to keep certain info WOULD go a long way toward many other possible solutions. I think the main point in all the tl;dr's is "Keep PvE as PvE, and don't force us all to encapsule ourselves in our deeds... would leave a sour taste in many peoples' mouths, SPECIALLY considering the forced extra expenses no one was expecting 2 weeks ago" Thing is, take a subscriber's perimeters and turn them unprotected, you're basically raising our monthly fee AND forcing us to put a few projects (aka the fun of the game) on hold to revamp all our fencing system. Also......................................... Pitchforks and torches are fun.................................... there, I said it, and don't give me that look the rest of you. If any fence or buildings which makes up the enclosure limits decay away, the enclosure is broken, and deleted. <------ i LIKE that, IF the system can clearly tell the difference between pure decay, and "player helped" decay. So a section would have to go 100% on decay damage, in other words. ...... ooo AND count damage done by the owner as "decay" except the very last swing (so no one cheats the system by hitting it once with a ql1 maul, but can still modify fences without encosures going BOOM.. if you got an alt or friend to bash protect, probably means it's gonna be maintained anyways to begin with).
  8. Well, that's got nothing to do with my perimeters sooooooooo ........ I guess up to Rolf whether he gets to keep receiving a lot of peoples' money or not.
  9. Yes, several deed owners are preparing mentally to quit Wurm. Something this big should be up for a vote. As in PvE players decide so "name your server" kind of vote.
  10. Basic business: corporate image. Opening this thread this shortly after the MR-Sparta incident went public, then letting this thread go on without any form of official reply to address the more than obvious concerns among the customer base............... Faith is for the religious, and to my knowledge, in the beginning, no one from Wurm created the heavens and the earth.
  11. By and by .. Rolf... if your friends login to your game to grief and lose you customers, then pressure you for rule and mechanics changes that will make you lose even more customers.......... are they really your friends?
  12. +10s to premium the alt in the first place. 12s assuming you plant a 63c/month deed max.

  14. Or like many countries do IRL... "You can have coastal property, but you have to give a piece of your property to ensure open access to the shore". I leave gaps between my perimeter fields so myself and anyone else can jump into the deed and shake that hungry troll. In some parts it's also used for roading. "Fence your perimeter, but every 20th tile must have a gap between fences".
  15. [07:24:11] You see a patch of grass. The grass is wild and seem to like it here. [07:24:11] This is within the perimeter of Tranquility. [07:24:13] You see a patch of grass. [07:24:18] This is within the perimeter of Tranquility. [07:24:19] You see a patch of grass. The grass is wild and seem to like it here. Doesn't say "This is within a dead zone intended as no-man's land". Also... I'm the only Wurmian who can place a structure there (I tried to help someone build on his own perimeter once, wasn't able to) ....... coupled with what the settlement form says, it was kind of expectable for people to use their perimeters. NOW you want us all to fall in with... *the vision* ... How do people say... ah yeh... I guess you should have thought of this before. Here's a vision: People quitting, blogging about why they quit, revenues drop, influx of new players drops, you go on Steam, you get new players, most quit as usual, but even more quit because on day 2 they went to bed, woke on day 3 to be robbed blind, some stay but some quit after reading up on their options and finding references to this thread. For those who stay anyways, you pull another nerf on paid stuff because of "the vision", those people quit, some blog about it, and end up referencing blogs from this fiasco. Wurm goes from unique in the gaming industry to "one of those pay-2-win games that calls itself f2p and changes the rules every 5 seconds to get more money out of you". Good luck losing THAT reputation once you have it.
  16. "Only deed owner can bash perimeter fences" mechanics, voila, problem solved. Off-deed enclosures, as in fully off-deed (my gatehouses are on-deed, how's that for gray area), no perimeter related to them, no deed related to it......... I liked the "house fence" concept... house capped at 25 tiles, where some walls act as fences to an open (farmable/grazable) area instead. Not sure how tricky the code for that is but would fix the newbie protection issue without having to slap ppl in their perimeter.
  17. Weeeeeeeeeeeeell... that's your company's poor wording, not ours. You know what happens in court when someone poorly worded a contract in their own disadvantage? TOUGH LUCK. Belrindor would massacre you if this were taken to court, basically. "Bad translation" wouldn't hold up in court either, in case you're wondering.
  18. Standing ovation, right there. And is that a LOTRO avatar?
  19. (tl;dr below) Don't get me wrong, I find Wurm vastly superior too but.... commercial success/fame... eh... But if Rolf opened this thread expecting hugs and cheers, specially from deed owners....... the level of disconnection from his playerbase would be worrying to say the least. If Rolf expected people who've made their perimeter a functional part of their deed (cleverly too, my gatehouses are IN deed, and don't go past perimeter to theoretically leave no gray areas) to respond with open wallets and more premium alts to buy new deeds (one deed per person doesn't help here btw)...... well that's just raw disconnection from reality. If Rolf expected people to, after having premium'd alts, bought new deeds, built new infrastructure to replace the one lost on their formerly used perimeter areas, spent a few hours refilling the holes from the noob/newbie/griefer who wanted 2k dirt from THERE now that it's unprotected, to then go out and start looking for newbies, allocate them space paid from one's own pockets, and help them set up because "now the poor things are opened to all forms of theft, and wurm needs more money to stay alive" ......... well that's just epic levels of disconnection on many fronts there. I'm all for the idea of changing the existing rules on legal enclosures, mainly to eliminate all the "free megadeeds" as it DOES mean more revenue for wurm. I'm all for changing the highway rules (suggestions on that in a moment) to something way more open as it does lock people out of good lands at times, as it is. But outright removal of both well-established laws is just plain silly and illogical and potentially horrible for finances. --------------------------------------------- So suggestions: Enclosures: Redefine "enclosure" for starters. * Only on Perimeter for old players. If you have 5 perimeter and build ONE tile outside it (as in away from the deed itself), all protection is lost. * 5x5 max, only for first 14-30 days for new players. If a 32-day-old player reports theft on his 5x5, GM SHOULD be able to find out the toon's age and close it in under 30 seconds. Anything over that size in that period is automatically unprotected, that includes attaching fields to the sides. * An actual penalty on players over 30 days who enclose over.. aw heck 5x5 (which will still be unprotected btw)... sometimes it's nice to have a place accross the server to logoff for a random server restart, ask any trader who hauls far. ---Edit 5x5 or 25 tile total... landscape can be a harsh mistress sometimes... coastal 3x8 for example when backed against a cliff--- Highways: Redefine "highway" for starters. say...... * 300 tiles long at least. (guessing a bit on that figure would need to survey a few, but that's roughly the length of Spawn Lake Canal on Release). * Must fill one or more of the following requisites: - Connect two major bodies of water. - Connect two existing valid highways. - Connect a body of water to existing highways AND be at least.... uh... 100 tiles long? * Must have *usable* guard tower protection every 50th tile, which CAN be replaced by deed templars along the way. * KoS rule.... not sure what to make of it... I'd say allow highway KoS what the hell. If you earn one, it's your responsability. * Must have 2x2 minimum Safehouses in those "dead" areas between guard towers. HAS to be double doors for carts to enter. * Must have a lamp at least every 10th tile, at least 20ql, alternating sides of the road. If more than half the lamps decay and aren't replaced, protection gets lost (this last bit is tricky but guessing the more usual users would keep an eye out for that). * All transversal tile borders must be flat. * Both sides must have curbs. * No slopes above 15. * Signs in both directions at intersections, plus signs pointing to which sea is where, and which way back to the spawn point when available. * What the heck... curbs on both sides all the way. * And why the hell not... diagonals have to be true diagonals, not 1-tile curves connecting 2 pieces of highway (so 3-wide on the diagonals so to speak).
  20. Maybe ask Notch for suggestions? He seems to be doing well enough..............
  21. 65x23 no expanding options. Not massive but not "small" for sure. And the main detail: none of you is paying my subscription or deed, none of my enclosures encroach on land that someone else could potentially build on, hell even made sure to leave access and roads open (made a couple myself) so the area is quite easy to travel..................... my point is....... who are YOU to tell ME how to play the SANDBOX game? I do fully agree on that too much land is enclosed without a shred of a deed on it, but who are my perimeter enclosures affecting? So far the only ones affected are griefers because I gatehoused them. How do my perimeter enclosures ruin your game sooooo badly that you're hell-bent on seeing them go? I'm sure you'd be thrilled if someone dug a bunch of 75-slope holes around your perimeter making travel a pain right? Because as far as "buffer zones" go, feels more like an area where people can mess up the landscape as much as possible right outside your deed instead of a "free passage zone" these days. Edit: as for "make a new deed"... I started my setup based on an amount I committed to paying a month under a set of rules that allowed me to use my deed in a determined fashion related to the amount I'm paying. Being forced to pay more out of the blue with no real reason other than "your complaints are too tiring because we hug griefers instead of banning them" (oh yes, I can name a few that are still around and are too obviously ban material)... raw bait n' switch... poor poor poor business practice, specially if you wanna expand your playerbase to tens of thousands. The more players you have, the more likely you are to run into a lawyer... they don't like being baited n' switched on. Also, this creates a very uncomfortable precedent. Today legal enclosures, tomorrow some kid in MR complains that he wasn't able to bash a house on someone's deed, and all our deeds lose protections to accomodate the little whiner. Or ships become bashable because Rolf's neighbor is tired of seeing an abandoned one near his deed. Is that the level trust (or lack thereof) that Rolf is looking for from his customers? Because.... well... that's the impression that many people are getting lately.
