  1. Bump, since Linux update borked my install yesterday and this is what worked, hadn't needed it before. Thanks for that tip, OP. Had forgotten that file even existed =D
  2. Praetor... be proud of thy gladius usage!
  3. So long

Guess we're gonna have another influx of WO refugees on WU?
  4. When the local griefer gets promoted to staff.... Yeah, those were fun times, specially when the rules suddenly applied again upon KoS'in him "because highway". It was years ago, maybe things have changed since, but it's really hard for a game to lose that reputation once acquired.
  5. Leave WU as it is please, server owners are doing a great job at customizing, can speak for Sklotopolis at least. "Glad they stopped updating us" is a common phrase in global chat when we see what's being done to WO. Nice graphics' updates, sure, but ... well, dang. Besides, we got distant rendering anyways and the graphics' fix mod made my modern renderer work real nicely Anyhoo, happy New Years' everyone, may the rng pick on your enemies instead.
  6. Well yeah, I know, old player and all, had a rather decent account on WO for that matter. My point was more about retention of new players vs. their perception of how life's gonna be after their third 30 second timer. Also, that's one hell of a grind for a new player who jumps into pvp thinking that he'll be in good constant combat sooner than later. Guess what I'm trying to say is that PvP needs tweaking to take it more to the battlefields and less to the deeds and ways to make the new players not feel like it'll be months before they'll join the fight in earnest. Random suggestion: PvP training academies, guessing per kingdom, aka another safe deed in the mix... and players may wanna set up events where the younger players can kill each other for the entertainment of the veter... i mean for practice! Anyhoo, that's what makes WO PvP mostly unpalatable even for me as an older player, time. On WU I'd consider it... As for other people, well, we all do play for the dopamine one way or another and/or have heavy rl schedules. Cheers!
  7. Now this one's gonna irritate the purists but may as well say it.... Years on WO, then years on WU.... If Chaos had the same build speeds (not even talking skilling, just the action timers in general) it'd be more amusing to rebuild damaged fortifications and such. WO timers are just too slow for most people to warrant any form of deed building that takes SO LONG only to have it become a battlefield. A bit more variety would also do in combat, like unnerfing dual wielding, adding poisons with different effects for arrows (and melee weapons? on the fence there). It's really hard for many people, I'm sure, to not see themselves spending more time undoing enemy damage than having fun. Add the price tag on top of that, upkeeps, etc... a bad raid costs real money, specially if you have your silvers drained or whatever it is you kids do these days to others' coffers. Once again, just my opinions, PvP community can take it, leave it, or modify it according to their realities which I only glimpse from the sidelines.
  8. See now, I did not know that. Hope it helps swell your numbers.
  9. Pragmatic mathematical answer from my end: If you wanna really max your gear, one wrong afternoon and you're back to square 1. You end up relying on cookie cutter gear instead, easily replaced stuff... Kinda kills the appeal to me. Would be better, in my opinion, if people could bring out their best scale or seryll plate with their combination of addy/glim weapons of choice and know that defeat doesn't mean another year or two (or months, I dunno, but same concept) making new ones. I mean, the Vikings had it right... Valhalla, you're back in the fight next day, not spending days making new armor.
  10. Wabbit ears.......... Shouldn't that be for Easter? (If someone already said it, sorry, skipped to the end and saw ancient boating discussed and all lol) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdaXffZDPDY
  11. I'm gonna say something nice for a change (waitwhat?). If WO ever DOES go under AND somehow NO ONE can get their hands on the servers' files to keep it going in any way or form.... There's a WU server out there for you, or the chance to make a new one but you'll still get to Wurm albeit with some cultural shock at first. Back to "picking on" the WO community, I stand by a suggestion I made in this or some similar thread: Start "cataloguing" the playstyles, do like Sklotopolis with Caza which is a deedless hunting server you can sail to and from, think of other versions you'd like to see. A rift server maybe, a no-loot pvp server where you respawn with all your stuff so people can skirmish their hearts out and maybe consider the "real" pvp servers, an actual densely packed mob population hunting server.... those are my personal ideas, it'd be interesting to see what y'all could come up with and get the devs to do. Other cool thing about having a handful of that kind of server is that devs could come up with way more land-destroying events and such without messing up peoples' homes. And reading the chaos my last post caused re: shiny gear... maybe it's time to add mid-game armour... uuuuh rift beast leather armor ... some jet black metal that's not quite moon metals but better than normal metals... make current uniques tougher and release more frequent "small uniques" for the mid-game stuff. Old "OP" stuff is still hella rare and hella expensive, but there's a mid tier for people who wanna aim high but not THAT high, every successful MMO that I can think of has that mid tier that Wurm's missing. Temporary runes for midbies? Y'get the idea.
  12. Some people love it, I get it, I really do. Not everyone though, I myself for one tend to have a mix of a bad case of wanderlust with a bit of killing urges in the mix. Can be profitable too. Guess who got really really geared up for hunting on WU. One playstyle on the checklist, brick factory. Always a niche for that. You know who'd make good customers? People who play differently and hate cutting bricks for their projects. Newbies are slave labor, midbies can stagnate easily if they don't OCD the game and spend heavily which has a way of frustrating them away (if they make it past the cheap labor stage). You're done building, you're decently skilled up, got some q60 steel gear.... the next cool thing? Grind more, bro, because the ancients are brilliant gatekeepers who make it more likely that you'll never see a dragon beyond screenshots or fight a nogump for fun without having to join the PvP politics/be ganking fodder. Ya know what's our biggest fear on Sklotopolis when a newbie scores the scale set with rare runed addy shield+shortsword? That he'll quit soon after but heck, another unique in a couple of weeks, there'll be more raffles at the regular PUBLIC slayings. Not a tear shed by founders when a 3-month old player is seen running around with endgame gear. "The community" needs to get out of 2010, you have your gold, free the "end game" stuff, work-from-home call centers are better money anyways, RMT is banned anyways, right?
  13. Was that a shot at my signature? =P Even that took a solid couple o' years on WU. Think I'm still the only Death Knight on the server. And to those saying one doesn't NEED glim stuff... well... sorta... yes.... and nooo.... now MM WEAPONS (and MM chain tbh, good stuff).. le drool =P~
  14. Re: the economy, I think part of WO's problem was that "the good stuff" has been too restricted for the few hardcore hardcore players for too long. There's no "middle class" so to speak, people who aren't insane veterans or interested in being such don't have at least a monthly chance to at least score a rare glim tool donated at some event by staff and/or veterans (PvE veterans aren't exactly MM and drake hide/scale factories either). The good stuff is severely overinflated and silver stays at the top giving WO a very detrimental Pay-to-Win for people who wanna drop $40 a month only to realize that it won't really get them past the iron age without becoming a brick slave. My 2 cents.
  15. There should be... ¬.¬ (I just had to.... "Wtf, Mord, ya ain't even played in years..." ... well yeah, even on a long break from WU, but, one can't not look at how this game is evolving with its mix of evolutionary wins, dead ends, and near extinction events XD ) Thing with WO is, look at WU. There's what, at least half a dozen genuinely stable servers... literally six different gameplay styles including a vanilla one I believe. So WO is trying to do all "six" at the same time in a uniform set of servers, and the people at the game's helm have a rather uuuh... unorthodox decision-making style as a result. And it's pricier and a long term investment mode game so people are gonna be more demanding. Maybe WO needs to add a couple more Xanadus that you can sail to and bring stuff but not deed... Like Sklo's hunting server. PvE with some valrei mobs and all except they were only really good for waxed corpses and valrei items for your deed's rarity bonus... maybe Release-sized Rift server with buffed densely populated fast respawn rift mobs that make gathering require at least 2 or 3 veterans. Y'all decide but that may be the way to reconcile the playerbase with itself and the game's staff... maybe not, maybe it's Maybelline. Edit: And just release the endgame stuff already, imho. Enough with "the economy". I constantly gave out MM stuff and Sklotopolis's market was simply unfloodable, and that's with comparatively easy as hell sources and way faster action timers. A drake hide set was almost a graduation gift to midbies instead of a $500 10-year project. Sometimes less elite is more fun, you suddenly have more peers instead of stressing over the lack of newbies to sell stuff to or enslave
  16. The really really slow one where if it sounds like too much fun the veterans will riot over the new generations not sacrificing themselves through gaming 12 hours a day?
  17. Pull a Runescape .... * Sell the hell out of Unlimited by committing for real this time to keeping it updated with the new graphics' advances etc... * Use Unlimited as the advertising board for "Classic". Then: * Take ideas from the modders, we'd have a fair trade situation again in theory. * Keep it hardcore oldschool blaaaah but with better graphics, call it "Wurm Classic". * Use Wurm Classic as the business venture that keeps the lights on for the other ones. * Read the freakin' audience and take it from there, should have a team back by then. My wogic behind the suggestion: Modders are your last devs, GCG. My 2 coppers.
  18. XD A video of a newbie mining for the first time with that annoying ear shatterer? ... How long was that timer.... 30s?
  19. Best I can think of is, with apologies to the person(s) responsible for updating the list, would be to make the list publicly VISIBLE, but only editable by a select few people (staff and/or players). People can then reply a specific thread or PM those responsible to have themselves added, organizers can send the list of names that can be removed in the same fashion.
  20. Man does have a point.... caffeine tends to be a diuretic and well, can even leave one a drop thirsty. Maybe have it lower one's water bar according to the caffeine drink's strength. (Then create a recipe that involves coffee, electrum, lemon, sugar, and glands, and totally not call it Red Bull because of copyright issues)
  21. Different guards from different kingdoms have different weapon specializations if I remember correctly ................... that said............. Discovered as a newbie when Q30 was EPIC STUFF RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH and decided to wield a q45 troll club and my FS eventually grew my character into a, back then, WO tough dude............ Find dead troll... or cause dead troll (heh heh!) ................. open corpse as container, take troll club...... go to random tower guard..... Look-> Equipment ..... Drag troll club to right hand, in other words, equip the darned thing on guard....... ever see 4 armed guards take down a troll? You feel sorry for the troll for half a moment then cackle evilly! Cheers, people who didn't know this, you just turned your tower-guarded deed into a bit of a power house.
  22. You shall hear from my lawyer.... and a hell hound!
  23. I would like to take this opportunity to inform you all that the Inn/Bar/Tavern name "The Barfing Bear" and all derivatives have been copyrighted by yours truly. Legal action will be taken in cases of infringement if due royalties are not paid in gold and Red Bull. Cheers
  24. Hope devs and their bosses are reading this..... the Rising World reference wasn't a diss, that game has the loveliest terraforming. Lost the map, but had a cool house half on land half on water, a basement, my farms were a tunnel that peeked out the cliff face to artificial platforms with the crops on them. 3D mines, real 3D mines... All it was missing was the skills' system and (can't believe imma say this), some timers to not make it so minecrafty. Y'all should download a copy or even better, talk the creators into some form of joint venture to branch RW into Wurm 2.0.
