  1. Seeing in recent patch notes a line time about a fix for an exploit sparked the idea of making a spectacle out of people who exploit bugs for bad ends instead of reporting them to the development team. The spectacle of which I speak is a good old fashioned public execution of the offending person's main! It goes something like this... Starter villages are outfitted with gaols or keeps featuring a raised platform where the action takes place. At Wurm dawn ringing of a bell tower is the signal for logging in the banned person's avatar and positioning it in public view. Also present is the Lord High Executioner, a silent fellow equipped with a fantastic adamantine huge axe. Formal charges are read out in appropriately colored text in local and the sentence of death is pronounced. The executioner then cuts the condemned deadly hard in the head and damages it. One whack ought to do it. The corpse is then pushed off the edge of the platform into the King's Pigsty where one of the hungry King's Pigs eats the corpse pretty much immediately. Everyone in local receives a small quantity of Blood of the Condemned in their inventory, good for making a potion of ... something or other. Fun for the whole family. Attendees get a reminder of the consequences of exploiting bugs, an excuse to show off their Santa hats, and a dash of marginally useful blood. The new blood type and potion would require new development but everything else uses existing game assets.
  2. I see in today's patch notes: Only players with “Modify Building” will be able to catapult a friendly house I take that to mean that prior to today's update, players without Modify Building *were* able to catapult a friendly house. I hope somebody was banned and their game assets confiscated for exploiting this.
  3. A new flooring choice that allows access to containers beneath and haul up/down but doesn't have a ladder. Allows easy access to storage on adjacent floors and delivery to a cart below without cluttering up the space with a ladder.
  4. aaaand, it's done. Maybe a little landscape tweaking left to do. (screenshot)
  5. A much fancier bridge has been started on the northern end, and in fact is half finished! One lane is already open, so you no longer have to run down to the southern end of the canal to cross. (screenshot) Thanks to Pride for planning; 76 masonry skill was required. Mortar is the limiting factor; donations are welcome.
  6. Heritage Strait, aka, Bayview Canal at N23 has been bridged at the southern end and the fords have been dredged down to the level of the rest of the canal bed. The bridge is a short one so I think there is some question whether a caravel will collide with the sides. So it would be helpful if someone would try that out and report any problems here. My corbita sails through just fine. A screenshot is available at imgur. I don't know who did the initial excavation; the canal was already in place when i moved to the area in 2013. Back then the entire area was sand. A substantial fraction of Castle Island is built on sand scraped off those hills above the canal. Schick and I spent many dark nights over there leveling and carting the sand away in rafts. In 2015 Bibi widened and deepened the canal bed and decorated the banks with willows and moss. Thanks to Rollypolly for donating crates of marble brick for the bridges (the northern end will be bridged soon too).
  7. Is a new glassmaking skill definitely planned? I thought I saw a post by one of the Wurm staff saying so but now I can't find it.
  8. The status for all servers is on the main Forum page on the lower right hand side. Servers went down briefly a few minutes ago for maintenance and are already back up.
  9. Re "Someone on Release is breeding mountain lions" Actually, Valo on Release was breeding, not mere mountain lions, but champion mountain lions. But he has now moved on to other amusements. I dare not think what. [13:06:09] <Valo> Anyone want a free Champ Mountain Lion Male, 3 speed [13:08:04] <Valo> actually is a 4 speed [13:08:21] <Valo> not a big differrence since it isn't ridable but [13:08:22] <Gammer> someone breeds those? [13:08:32] <Valo> I was but not anymore
  10. This will totally break PvP! Just kidding. It's an excellent idea that makes an existing item more useful.
  11. Count me in on this one.
  12. Plan for a Plan

I do have a few specific suggestions for new features. The single most effective new feature I can think of would allow us to customize crafted objects by painting selected portions different colors and for the objects to really look painted instead of the current "dyed" look. People are drawn to Wurm largely for the creative possibilities afforded by its best in class terraforming and player made housing systems. Compared to those systems the creative possibilities of the current crafting system are relatively weak. This is a feature that could be proofed out on one popular item, e.g. large cart, and subsequently applied to other items as demand and popularity indicate. I would even like to see "coloring book" tapestries with predefined areas for the player to color according to his taste, material quality, and skill. Functional tables and shelves with a limited number of attachment spots would allow people to decorate their homes more creatively. Perhaps make the number of attachment spots depend upon quality like tool belts. Operable window treatments (shutters and curtains) and period appropriate window glazing would go a long way to make houses look more alive. Windows currently look more than a little like the eye holes in skulls. Glassmaking skill that enables glazing and even stained glass has my vote for the next new skill implemented. Lots of good ideas pertaining to glassmaking have been posted on the forum over the years. Cooking is an existing skill with potential to add interest to the game by rewarding a varied diet. Plenty of people never eat at all and there is currently no reason for me to eat anything other than meat + pumpkin meals for the rest of my life. As for sailing, the quality of the ship and your expertise should both make a difference. By actively working your ship you should be able to make it perform better than someone who hits the X key and goes to the kitchen to make a snack. Finally, community events are crucial. Rite of Spring for example, gives fellow worshipers a common goal worth collaborating over a period of weeks to achieve. More of that sort of community event, made more difficult for sociopaths to disrupt, will contribute to keeping people engaged.
  13. I have this same problem after upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10. It seems to be exacerbated by running two clients simultaneously. In fact I am not sure it ever happens when running only one client and that may be a clue to the root cause. When I first noticed the problem (after the upgrade) my Radeon HD 5850 driver version was 15.200.1062.1004, published 8/3/2015. I definitely had not done any manual driver updates recently (certainly not since 8/3/2015) so I assume that the Windows 10 migration process updated the driver, replacing whichever version had been in place previously. I don't have any record of which driver version was in place before the upgrade. When I asked the Windows device manager to update the driver it found and installed *earlier* version 15.200.1055.0. But that version also exhibits the problem. The autodetect feature on the AMD website served me AMD-Catalyst-15.7.1-Win10-64bit, which is an advertising platform disguised as a driver management tool. It recommended the same version I started (published 8/3/2015) but updated a smattering of other files too. Now I am back where I started. So until I get this sorted out I cannot recommend upgrading to Windows 10. I examined all of the device manager event logs for the 5850 card due to the migration and all of the status codes were 0x0. I assume nonzero status codes would indicate errors. So no evidence found yet that anything went wrong with the 7->10 migration.
  14. +1, the current texture looks like particle board; I think I have replaced all of them I ever built with wood now. Thatch deserves a pretty texture.
  15. Flying is for the Gods. No flying, no way, no how. Get a horse. Or a boat. And get off my lawn.
  16. My take on this is: shoveling the snow on a paved tile should return it to the not-snow texture. Shoveled tiles should revert to the snow covered texture every time snow begins to fall. I am not convinced that allowing non paved tiles to be shoveled is a good idea.
  17. Will mobs of any kind be able to climb stairs?
  18. Scarborough Faire at Waxahachie, TX runs through Memorial Day. It's the next best thing to Wurm! Maybe even better in a few respects - eating a piece of cooked meat on a stick won't cut your nutrition in half for example. And they have beer and mead which are frequently requested features. Post here if you plan to go this year - maybe a bunch of us can meet up.
  19. The "Build" permission is not consistently applied to 2nd storey walls. After receiving the build permission on an alt's deed and being added as a guest to the writ for a stucture I was allowed to plan 4 walls on the second storey but forbidden to plan 4 others. I was able to actually start construction on the 4 planned walls and even finished one of them. The error message on the forbidden walls was: [21:19:59] Death Valley does not allow that. These are ordinary wooden walls planned with a wooden mallet. Some are on the edge of the writ footprint but others are not. The ground storey exterior walls are complete. I was able to plan and build the floors for the 2nd storey. Holding the writ did not help. You can see the current state of the structure in this screen shot - http://imgur.com/XO4DoTB I experienced the same or similar difficulty with an alt working on a structure on my own deed about 6 months ago. So far I haven't been able to figure out what is different between the walls that were allowed and those that were forbidden. My expectation is that either all planning be allowed or none. Half and half doesn't make sense to me.
