  1. Hello friends, I just finished selling my account (a decision I took as result of this incident) so this will be my last post on this thread / subject, since it no longer concerns me. I'm sure that for most of us the problem with this decision was not the action itself or its direct consequences; after all everyone knows that IanRose is now named Bashur and he is no PVP star even so. But the problem is the dangerous precedent it created. Far now, we are all equals in front of rules. Rich or poor, famous or anonymous, seasoned veteran or first day player - we were all treated exactly the same. Or as Rolf said "we don't handle those judgement differently based on fame or money, for which we are proud". And we were proud of him for acting like this. And although many times we may not have agreed with the rules, we always did respected them, because we knew that they are the same rules for everyone. Then rules started to be bending for Bashur - we know for sure about the name change, but there are rumors about more than this (like a fast conversion MR - JK - MR so he can take some items out of the bank, direct access line to Rolf / GMs, not having to wait like all of us in line for a few hours so his support tickets are handled, etc). And that was not nice. And the name change, it may not sound like a big deal, but it is something that anyone involved in a character trade probably carved for all these years. We all have our favorite names, which maybe we carry from one game to another, and which represent us. Far now we had only two options - buy a high skilled character and live with its name which would not represent us, or pick a name we like, and work out a$s to raise her skills. All of us except Bashur. To be honest that's even worse than allowing him to "buy his skills in a PTW shop"; at least in those case his 700 euros (or whatever he paid for) would have went to CodeClub and towards development, not in another player's pockets. Now, do we want name changes for everyone? Hello no! Do we want his name reversed to IanRose? Yeah, that would be nice, but not really care about it either. What do we want then? Simple... we want Rolf to admit that he made a mistake (he already did), to apologize for it (he didn't, but hey, we all know that you guys are so full of ego that it's hard for you to say the words ), but most of all we want him to promise that he will stop doing these things - rules bending, silent changes / nerfs, and at least discuss them with the community first. The final decision is still his, but we want to at least be involved in the decision making process and help by stating our points of view. If this would have happened in this case, the mistake (which he admitted) could have easily be avoided. And now some final words for some of Rolf's defenders: To those that say it was not a mistake: It was. Even Rolf admitted.it was a mistake. So stop denying something he admitted himself. To those that say it's not a big deal, that only a few people complained, that the 54 likes these post got are an insignificant amount, and that the game will benefit more from the influx of new players coming from Bashur's videos: 54 likes may not sound a lot in terms of Facebook, but on our community they made it the second most popular post ever (and no, I hold no merit for writing it, just happened to be me and not someone else) which says something about how many people were bothered by this. And, finally, a question: We saw a lot of pissed off people, we saw a few people quitting, we even saw staff members resigning. Was it worth? Can someone please tell me how many new premium accounts resulted from the red carpet and the favors handed to Bashur? More important, could someone please tell us two months from now on how many of those players renewed their premium membership? This being said and done... OVER AND OUT!
  2. Any news about the new version / launcher? Or the only way to run it is via this "manual fix"? Cheers, Alexandra
  3. Guys, can we please calm down and stop fighting between each other? By insulting between us we only give a reason to mods to close the thread and let the story die.
  4. Sklo, my suggestion was that those 20 days can be used only on accounts that were never premium before. It's not like you can keep your alts premiumed with this trick and it's not like there is much use for an account which is only premium for 20 days, without being allowed to hold a deed. So I doubt there is really a temptation to abuse the system creating premium alts which you'll have to drop after 20 days. Yes, maybe some people will use it to have 20 days of free premium time on their legit alts, but otherwise no real benefit. And anyway, the IP limitation thing is really not a protection - we could just workaround this by helping each other - I could just vouch your alt and you vouch my alt.
  5. 20 days is enough to allow them to see how it is to: - ride a horse - command a large cart - command at least a sail boat - be able to fix their errors, by destroying a missplace fence or something And once they got to experiment all these perks there's a high chance they will like to keep them. Also they would already have at least some skills over 20 by that time and there's a high chance they will like to keep them too. Now I don't say by any chance that we'll manage to retain all these players, but I do think we coild retain some and convert them to paying customers.
  6. Hey everyone, I see a lot of free players being hesitant about spending RL€ and become premium for the first time. And I think I have an idea of how to drag them in the game a bit more first and ease their decission. The idea is really simple: every time someone buys two months of premium time from shop (not in-game) she also gets a referring voucher. The referring voucher could be used in-game, in a similar way with how the /refer system works now, and it would give the recipient of it 20 days of premium time and one hour of sleep bonus. However, it could only be used on players that were never been premiumed before, in an attempt to actually give more players the chance to experiment premium benefits and get them dragged more into the game. I guess there's a reasonably chance they will be tempted to renew their premium time when it expires, once they got used with it. In order to prevent abuse, these "premium trials" should not receive the perks for first purchase (since they actually didn't made one), nor they will be allowed to own a deed or travel to the prrmiim only Epic server. Basically all they get is the skill cap removal for those 20 days.
  7. Just my 2 cents... I am well aware that the developers have to found a balance between adding content, tweaking existing content and fixing bugs. Yet, at this moment I think too much focus is given to adding new features (some of which were great - true) and way too less to fixing existing problems. I'm quite sure that people would be happy with one major update per year - like we had in December and July, one suggestion implemented every month (maybe have a poll for the most desired suggestion coming from the community) - like adding the possibility to have beds in our caves or something, and other than that focus on bug fixes to improve players experience. Everyone working in sales knows that increasing income can be done in two ways - getting more customers or squezing more money from existing customers by overselling (remember the "go big" promotions from fast-foods)? I don't talk about a cash shop, but about some basic things - like the option to gift premium to other players from shop or having a discount on larger orders of coins (which you'll spend in game anyway). Also, don't minimize the importance of micro transactions. Many people may not be willing to chip 16 euros right away, but might be willing to start by buying just one silver if that option would be available - enough to get them a rowboat. And once they made the first purchase, they are much more likely to make another one and another one. About massive advertising - I would say NO for now; the game is just not in the shape to neither hold a large group of newcomers (saw what happend with GV last week), neither to convert many of them (lots of bugs and crashes still, poor tutorial, not eniugh guides, step learning curve, etc). For now I think they try to do the right thing trying to improve the experience of new players.
  8. If you would have bothered to read, you would have saw that I dropped the idea of quitting (partially because I was unable to get a price which would have made me happy, but not only because of this) - that's what "almost quit" means. And by the way, if you don't have something to say on topic, please do not derail the topic. Remember that old saying "If you don't have something nice to say, you can just not say anything at all". And, actually, you just proved my point of view - things like this (random attacks from people you don't even know) happens when you try to "socialize" on open places (like forum or freedom chat). Cheers, Alexandra
  9. "Hello! My name is Alexandra and I'm a hermit!" Now please let me tell you my story, and hopefully by the end of it, some of you will relate with me. I am not an anti-social person, quite far from this I would say - I like to chat and have a good laugh with people both in real life and in games. But at the same time I need a place of my own, a place which I can arrange / organize in such a way that it really feels like "home". To make a parallel with real life, I like hanging out with people, but I don't like the idea of a shared dorm. And one of the things that deterred me from WURM more than once was the fact that I couldn't really found the "middle way". Practically the only options were to either be part of a village (either as mayor or villager, doesn't matter) which meant not really having a place of my own I can model as per my vision or to play all alone in my village and eventually get bored after a while. I tried to work around this by playing alone in my hermitage and use the freedom chat and the occasional PMs for "'social interactions". But that simply didn't worked because you just can't get along with everyone no matter how hard you try and some people just seem to enjoy being mean with others. Now don't get me wrong, I don't blame anyone here, it's just my fault I set not realistic expectations when I hoped to just have a big, happy family chat on freedom. And my failure to find a solution to give me "the best of both world" made me quit the game three times and almost quit it a fourth time (this time for good). But now, while running at a local competition and letting my mind fly away, this idea struck through my mind: I am probably not the only person having this issue (or am I?) so we could eventually get together and form an alliance with the only purpose of giving us a friendly chat where we can all talk with each other in a friendly environment, where everyone knows and respects everyone else. At the same time we'll still have our little pieces of heavens for ourselves, to transform them from dream to reality. So... what do you say? Any other hermits out there who would also like a friendly community chat? Requirements to join? Just be nice, friendly and respectful with each other. Nothing else. Cheers, Alexandra
  10. BrQQQ, The fact that Rolf admited it was his mistakes shows that these threads were not useless - we made him aware of his mistake and hopefully this will stop him repeat it in the future. Even if policy were broken only once, it creates a dangerous precedent. But, was it really only one time? The conversion MR - JK - MR in a fast series that people talk about was not another policy break? How many other people got this favor because they were careless enough to forget something in the bank? Also, if any of us has a problem we have to make a /support ticket and potentially have to wait hours and hours (I had cases when my ticket on Pristine was not picked up for 8+ hours), while Bashur seems to have a direct line with Rolf himself and (questioning not saying) maybe with GMs too, to assist him over the line. And about red carpet rolling, I guess he was talking mostly to the welcoming he got all over the place - forums, launcher, etc. Cheers, Alexandra
  11. IMPORTANT: Auction is taking place on Pristine / Release forum - this is just a copy/paste to let people interested of moving or having a second property on the new cluster know about it. You can read the full description here, but please bid there if interested. Thank you! Link: http://forum.wurmonline.com/index.php?/topic/88724-selling-private-island-41x41-decent-starting-character-eventually-rare-unfinished-corbita-bid-starting-at-1-euro/ Hello everyone, I start playing this game in April and from the very beginning we had a love-hate relation: I loved it for the freedom it offered to me and for some great people I've met in here, but I also hated it for the huge amount of time it requires and for some other not so great people I've met in here. That's why I already "sold out and quit the game" three times. Here are the links to all three previous transactions to see that they all went really smooth, and despite the fact that I returned to the game every time, I always started fresh and never even though about trying to "recover" my accounts or something. - first one: http://forum.wurmonline.com/index.php?/topic/79965-sold-big-opportunity-3000-tiles-deed-on-prime-location-for-only-40-silvers-30-euros/ - second one: http://forum.wurmonline.com/index.php?/topic/81520-reserve-1-euro-buyout-120-euro-for-large-deed-8000-tiles-trader-chars-valuing-520-euros-counting-only-premium-time-and-deed-placing-cost/ - third one: http://forum.wurmonline.com/index.php?/topic/86423-selling-decent-account-andor-deeds/ Yet now I really think it's about time to quit for good. A new university year just started and mixing school, work and real life is already a big burden. Plus some recent actions of the dev team really pissed me off and made me loose my trust in them. I don't have much belongings at this time and I don't try to make a big profit out of it, but I would still like to at least recover the money I reinvested in it (you know when you're a student, money don't grow in the trees, so you really can't afford to just let it go). Any way, enough with the chit chat, here's what I'm selling: The Deed The size of The Hermitage is 41 by 41. The perimeter is 5 and it has 1 guards hired. The settlement has 10 silver, 20 copper and 2 iron in its coffers. The monthly cost is 4 silver, 36 copper and 20 iron. The upkeep will last approximately 65 days, 11 hours and 25 minutes. It is a rather large deed and a totally private island. It has a guard tower on deed.It doesn't have much rock, but it does have some and it has at least an iron vein. There is absolutely no problem placing a trader on the deed. The deed is still a work in progress and it is estimated to still require quite a lot of dirt. It is located on X38, Y17 on the map (a nice, secluded location in the eastern sees); decently closed of Release too. Some screenshots: Token: Map: My dream: Real pictures: Let's see how much setting this deed costed:- settlement form: 10s- setting this size (41x41, with 5 perimeter and one guard): 35s 62c according to this tool- money in upkeep: 10s 20c- guard tower: 5sTotal costs: 60s 82c What else there is on deed: - a small sailboat - cedar - two large carts (with a few rafts) - cedar - 20 BSBs (partially filled with quite a lot of resources) - all cedar - 3 FSBs (partially filled with quite a lot of resources) - all cedar - wine barrels, barrels (filled with wine, juice, maple sap, olives oils, etc) - all cedar - quite a lot of resources - thousands of mortar, sprouts, crops, wood, etc, etc, etc All together these should easily value at least 10-20 silvers. I can also eventually sell a RARE unfinished corbita (current plan is to give it away as a good bye gift to a friend, but I can eventually be talked into selling it). The character Her name is Sweety (sweet, isn't it? ) and she's a sweetheart. She is level 6 on Path of Love (which means she already has Refresh and only one step away of Enchanted Grass). Her affinity is smithing. She still has one month of premium time. Skills are not high, but somehow decent for a starting character with not much played time (all listed in the spoiler section). I don't expect to earn anything extra for the work I put in the deed / character - after all it was my fun playing her. Anyway, as a rough estimation, I spent ~60 euros on the deed (as previously explained) and ~24 euros on the character (3 months of premium time), so my hopes are that I will recover at least an important part of these money, if not all of them. Payment only via PayPal, not silvers since I don't intend to keep playing. 12. No comment. Just hope I can still find someone willing to buy my account, because I'm so out of here. /sarcasm mode on PS: If they don't like the name, maybe you can be so nice and give them a name change. Please? Pretty please? /sarcasm mode off
  13. Tell this to the OP (hint: OP is Rolf)
  14. Rolf, I know people who would have wanted to buy an account name, but haven't done it because they felt the name was not representing them. I know people who paid more for an account, just because it has a decent name. I know people who had to sell an account for less, just because it has a bad name. I know people who got stucked on old or new cluster, just because they picked wrong after tutorial and didn't wanted to drop the name they used on all games since years. Yet, we all accepted that rules are rules and that name changes are not possible in the game as is said in this official page: We were even told to not try bothering CMs or GMs since this won't be done. Then here you come and tell us that we are all equals and that Yet it looks some are more equal than others. Now please allow me to quote from another official post of Oracle, from the GMs Hall: You say this is not a game breaking thing and you are right. But is a favor he got and none of us did, although many of us carved for it. It's something that shows that we are no longer equals, but some are privileged and some are not. And I think it's only a matter of times since a new favor will be done, to Bashur or someone else. And then another one. And another one. In juridic terms you have set a dangerous precedent. We trusted you that you are not treating us "differently based on fame or money" (that's your words). You said you were proud of this and we were proud of you because of this. Yet you break our trust... and now you want us to trust you and the team, but how could we still trust you, when you brake our trust in the first place? /A very sad and disappointed player
  15. Rolf answered, not very convincing if you ask me, he sounded rather defensive-aggressive about it: http://forum.wurmonline.com/index.php?/topic/88721-special-treatments/
  16. This is over only if we let it be over. With the risk of being banned for challenging official decision in public and for berating game officials (although I don't feel that I did that), I made this post. I think we are entitled to at least the minimal courtesy of receiving an explanations of the first proven favor gave to a player by game officials. And with all risks involved I will keep figting for this. So help me Vynora!
  17. Hello everyone, Since the original poster of this problem asked for his post to be closed, I repost here. What happened? Simply, Bashur got something none of us ever got before - a name change. Initially I was somehow on Bashur's side... the guy just wanted to return to game after his IP (not character) ban was lifted and a lot of people acted like kiddies who didn't wanted their toys shared with a new guy. Yet, my ideas are totally changed now. This really looks like a bribe towards the developers. And once a favor was made, there can't be any trust that more and bigger favors won't be done again in the future. Only two days ago, Rolf himself, said here that: What happened in these two days that made Rolf clearly change a rule that is clearly stated on official pages: Now please allow me to quote from another official post of Oracle, from the GMs Hall: How could we trust that such favors or even bigger ones won't be given again in the future once you break out trust in the first place? I would really love to see an official position about this. Later edit: Rolf answered this. My last thoughts (after finishing selling my account - a decision I took as result of this incident): I'm sure that for most of us the problem with this decision was not the action itself or its direct consequences; after all everyone knows that IanRose is now named Bashur and he is no PVP star even so. 18. Hey everyone, Just wanted to: - bump this thread, hoping you will keep posting and won't let it die; - say that there are a lot of brilliant idea in this thread - I saved over 50 pictures on my computer as inspirational source; - whine that we only have so many likes per day; guess my quota for next week will be used on this thread alone. ) Cheers, Alexandra
  19. Are you giving him money for rent, food or online games? If yes, then you're totally entitled to tell him that and I apologize for intervene. If not, then who are you to question his way of earning his money? Your option was to proceed a standard career and work (as a slave) for a corporation on a 9-15 standard schedule. Nothing wrong with this. It was your option and if that makes you happy, good for you. His option was to attempt a liberal profession and work for himself, yeah making youtube videos. From what I see he seems to be quite good at it and he seems to make quite some nice money. Again, nothing wrong with his attempt. It was his option and if that makes him happy, good for him. If you really want to compare your options compare the income and the satisfaction you both get from your "jobs". I'm not sure about the first one, but I'm quite sure he beats you big time on the second one. So please, just let it go and stop telling people how they should live their lives. And for the sake, how they should play their game. Remember it's his game just as much as it is your game and he's just as entitled to be here as you are so please focus on your own game and stop attacking other players, especially with these kind of thing which have no connection with the game. Thank you. Cheers, Alexandra
  20. Hey Erozaxx, Welcome back to WURM and may you have a lot of fun in this new adventure of yours. Cheers, Alexandra
  21. Hey Bashur, Listening to others, I could have thought you are the worst person in WURM. But I didn't believed it. Listening to you, I could believe you're just an inocent victim. But I don't believe this either. I honestly think the truth is somewhere in the middle. But really it's not important what I or anyone else believes. You are as entitled to play this game as anyone else. So welcome back. I'm still pretty much a noob, but here's an idea: - start on Freedom (old cluster) and build that living city you're dreaming at - have your people raise their skills in a safe environment; see who's gonna stay and who's just passing by - once you're all set in terms of skill, gear, knowledge and organization "invade" Chaos (which is also PVP, but shares characters with Freedom) - if you succeed, make a second thriving city in there - thr biggest one in WURM; if you fail just fall back to your safe, freedom one Just my 2 cents... Cheers, Alexandra
  22. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but, maybe except PVP servers, WURM isn't a competitive game. So what's the problem if somebody takes adwantage of such a window of opportunity and you don't? I would honestly don't mind at all even if everyone else would have only 100 skills. Remember, this is a GAME. We are supposed to come here to relax after a hard day of work. Not to turn it into a competition or, even worse, a fight.
  23. Hey everyone, Just thinking at throwing my 2 cents... I have to start by saying that I don't like at all Bashuverse; and about its video... I was at work (so bored and nothing to do ), servers were down, and I still didn't resisted more than one minute watching him screaming how he is the center of the universe and how he will take over our world. Also, the fact that he was caught cheating (macroing) and banned for that, still now he is back, is one more reason to not like him and not be happy he is here (once again). Still the fact that you or I don't like him, doesn't mean that we should be rude. If the admins decided that he (and his friends, followers, fans, minions or whatever they're called) are allowed to be here, we should have the minimal courtesy to at least don't bash them in public and make them feel not welcomed in our world. At the end of the day they have just as many rights to be here as any of us. And about admins welcoming them... well, it's understandable, it's not about welcoming Bashuverse only, but welcoming a whole community who decided to give our game a try. Probably most of them will quit when they'll see that "taking over the world" would require them more than two weeks, but some will probably stay, leave their footprint in here and make our world a bit better place. So from my behalf I wish them all HELLCOME TO WURM ONLINE; may your stay here be a long and glorious one, but more important, hope you'll have fun in this little world of ours. Cheers and once again be welcomed, Alex
  24. Later edit: Already found a contract, so this is no longer available; please close. Hello friends, I recently managed to buy back my character from the old servers (AryaStark), but since the time I could spend playing her is somehow limited nowadays (like 2-3 hours per day; maybe more if I really enjoy it, maybe less if it sounds like a chore) I don't really feel like setting my own place or spending more money within the game (not to mention that since I don't have a PayPal account of myself, buying from shop is a real hassle for me). That's why I'm trying to find an arrangement which could allow me to earn my premium time (and maybe a few extra coins for the occasional expenses I may have now and then) working in-game. I know I could just take bulk orders and easily achieve that. However I don't really feel like working three days for one customer, three days for another one and so on, or doing the very same job over and over again (like making only bricks or mortar locked in a basement). That's why I'm kinda looking for someone who could hire me full-time and for a variety of tasks, assisting them with whatever work they may have on their deed - pretty much a bit of everything from surface mining to crafting, from terraforming to farming and from ship building to cooking. As long as the jobs are varied enough (and not just dumb grinding of a single thing) and I can feel like part of the village and not just like a slave, I'm willing to do absolutely any task. I have absolutely no intention to "move up" and set my own deed. Not now, not in one month, not in one year. So if you hire me now, it is very likely that you'll get yourself a long-term, very loyal employee, who will just become more efficient with every passing day (as skills goes up and I manage to get myself better tools). (The reason for that is that I already have another character, with her own deed on the new cluster and I really don't need another one here.) I am premium at this time (so there is no need to pay anything upfront or right away) and I have some decent (although still lowish) skills (50 carpentry, 25 fine carpentry, 25 woodcutting, 25 masonry, 20 stone cutting, 25 mining, 40 digging, 20 prospecting, 30 farming, 25 hot food cooking, 20 blacksmithing, 20 pottery, etc) so I would be more efficient than a new player right from the start. I also have decent (to not say "good" ) knowledge of game mechanics, so you won't have to waste your time explaining me how to make steel lumps or how to flatraise some land. I am located on Celebration on the moment, but I have a boat and I'm a big girl, so I can travel by myself to whatever server from the old cluster (even Chaos if I get a nice offer from there ). Please let me know if you have any offer for me; I'm happy to discuss any arrangement proposal; I'm really open minded towards this and I don't have any fixed ideas. Preferably PM, not replies here. PS: At this moment I have an already running deal with someone else for like one more month (made from another character, before I was able to recover this character), however things are not really working out as expected. Still I want to respect my part of deal, so I may not be able to start working for you at full speed right away 'till I finish my current "slavery contract". Anyway looking for your offers (preferably via PM) and we can discuss more at that time. Cheers, Alex
