  1. Yea lets be honest here, the sky is the limit with what you can for "realistism". But how much of that will actually equate to quality gameplay and not just constant headache. The forage/botanize thing could be good and would give you more reason to explore the land in which you live. The stuff that would hinder transport like rain and stuff... i think would be going a bit far and make for more headache than engaging gameplay. Reason being that peoples living in those climates have adapted to their surroundings and as such have devised ways to travel in the winter less inhibited. We can no do that here.... i cant attach sleds to my cart. or make a dog sled team(i would love for this by the way. But case being they adapt and well we can't really adapt except to accept the fact that during winter we can't go anywhere because we get cold real fast and move real slow..... Just my 2 cents.
  2. i have a patch of Steppe that is only 5 tiles big right next to me settlement on my server and they spawn there in droves...
  3. Hey it does say in their "Examine" description that they are quite a sight when they are roaming in herds...or something to that effect...
  4. I'm sorry what? Some of the best games I have ever played didn't even have a UI you had to type in everything you wanted to do or interact with in sentence form. The UI may be dated but of course in the word dated doesn't even mean what it meant 5 years ago. today dated is thrown around on stuff that is last year...let along 10 years ago. Hell I honestly like the UI...it is minimal (games today like to put the flashy ui in front of you that takes us half the screen), It shows you basically all you need. Its it is fully resizeable and movable(again how many games of today don't let you move things? they rely on mods/addons to do that), and i can hide any or all of it at any time. I honestly don't get it....does it rely on a lot of right click menu pops...of course but that is because of the sheer vastness of things you can do when interacting with one item depending on whats active. and if you don want the menu's most of it can be done via the crafting window...I don't know maybe im out of touch...or maybe UI really should not be that extremely important...we don't need flashy we need optimal and well i believe we deffinately don't have flashy and while we may have optimal...its fairly close.. And as for the LMB view.....that is again a personal preference. you can not state a personal preference as a fact no matter if there are others that like it...i personally, while having it set to spacebar, cant stand it bc it make interacting with anything impossible....hack even in games that have it key mapped (LiF for exapmple) i never use it...so to say that is what is driving "many new customers" away is well again personal opinion....not facts... The fact is that Wurm is just not for everyone. There is absolutely nothing that CC can do to change that. If they made the changes you all are proposing who is to say that just as many current players quit as new ones you bring in bc of these changes. Yes i know having options is a good thing like having the mouselook in the keymapper...but that one thing is not going to retain those people. Unless society has really devolved into "oh no i have to hold a button to look around, this game is garbage". and it that is the case then well Wurm and all video games are sure to be doomed sooner or later because well where will it stop? Every one talks about do this or do that and they will come...my personal opinion...they won't come no matter what CC does because they want a game that isn't Wurm...and i for one hope that Wurm stays what it is, an awesome niche game that is personally the best sandbox i have ever played in... Now the bugs in the game on the other hand....totally another story...the game code is over 10 years old...some of these damn things should no longer exist... "edit" i had to make a comment on "You either can make something or you can't, that should be what a skill level is for." Huh skill level ups the chance...but it should never 100%. Even machines can't do 100% success so why in the heck would you expect a human to be able to?
  5. you also realize they have released "official" servers for almost 10 years? its called Wurm Online...
  6. While i wouldn't use the word immature per'say I do whole heartedly agree with the bolded and underlined part of this quote. I just don't see how people this day in age, with all the available information at their fingertips(both figuratively and literally), do not make informed purchases or do their own troubleshooting before even pointing fingers at some one else(most likely the devs). It just boggles my mind. People back in the days of past made more informative decisions than we do today with a fraction of the available information. It seem the more info we have access to the less we actually use said information...
  7. 58 negatives is a drop in the bucket. And as stated a lot of those are user error (yes not being able to start up a private server is user error not CC's fault) There is nothing wrong with setting the server up on cc's end it has all been on the users end. As for tutorials and all that, yea i do think that the tutorial in game should have been thrown into unlimited, but again Wurm has never and will never be a hand hold experience even in the beginning. And im sorry but no one can determine in an hour if they like a game or not. They may think they can but in reality its just them going...oo its not 2015 graphics...i don't like it. I bet none of those people even know its a almost 10yr old game, didn't bother to look into the game at all before they bought it and just blindly went hey something new and bought it. WU aside i and most smart people NEVER buy a game without at least looking at extenal links and forums of the games to get a feel for what it is gonna be like. WIthout the buzzwords and crap that every single game on steam uses in its description. There are tons of videos of wurm online on you tube....3 seconds into any of them you see what the UI and graphics look like. Heck the trailer was made with in game captures so watching that will tell you lol... So that being said every one of those "bad" reviews were made by people that would have known everything they griped about before even buying the game, or do not know how to set up a private server period no matter what game...oh and setting a private single player lan server only takes three mouse clicks if there is nothing wrong with the USERS end of things... So "something to worry about" no not really. If they were informed people then those reviews would have never existed...but you know how it goes always blame the developers never the user right???
  8. Unfortunately there are those out there incapable of doing a little research and forming their own opinions that do just go straight down, i mean don't even look at the rest of the page, to the review section and then only read the ones that are showing. Don't even bother to click the "Read More" button and use those peoples opinions as their own. And the worse part of all is that the number of these "followers" is growing drastically every single day.
  9. And that is just fine if that is the way you want to play it. The great thing is that Wurm either online or unlimited is one of the greatest sandboxes ever. Therefore if that is the way you want to play the game then by all mean go right ahead. But there are some people out there that want to play unlimited a different way. Maybe they like you want to make a whole city or kingdom all by their lonesome but don't want to just GM in the mats. Maybe they just aren't a people person and prefer to play solo. Having some forms of automation would help to live that dream. They could then feasibly build their kingdom without it taking 10 years. See It's not about what YOU want to do. Its about what everyone wants to do. And everyone doesn't want to do exactly what you want to do. Some want to not only look at their kingdom, but also revel in the fact they mined, dug, and chopped down every piece of said kingdom. And if you don't want the automation then you don't have to use it. That's the beauty of a sandbox, you use what you want and disregard the rest.
  10. i think everyone should just repost the video link in the comment section of the steam store page. if they won't officially use it...we will unofficially take it over lol
  11. Seriously. I always find it funny when the company that makes the game can't be bothered to make a good trailer of the game that pays their paycheck, But the players that are paying those paychecks can make one as engaging and inclusive as that one. Honestly i would have immediately tried to buy the rights to that video from the owner as it would have imo been hundreds of times over a greater tool of advertising then that dull thing they have on steam right now.
  12. Sadly that is not even a guess.. It has been said by Rolf more than once that this IS the reason for it and that in the future, if steam is successful, we might see it come available from other vendors. They just don't bother to read those things, or to understand that doing this kind of stuff costs money. Something that Rolf and code club don't have a whole lot of to work with atm...
  13. But the problem is that yes "WE" all know that. But this topic is about ways to let all those other people on steam know that. And sadly i must agree that the trailer that is there right now does not cut it. It not only looks like it was thrown together in 5 minutes but it doesn't even show a tenth of what can be done... He never asked for a new trailer with more "sex, drugs and rock n' roll". Where did you even get that? Nor did he ask for sexxy skin showing female's. You're whole post is nothing but putting words in the OP's mouth.. Wurm does not look like your standard fantasy game. That's not news, that's intended, the devs know that since years. Your right that is not new to us. It would be news to the millions of other people on Steam that have never even heard of Wurm... The "common youngster" as you call it is not Wurm's target group. Wurm is not trying to address a certain age group. That's no news either, that's intended, the devs know that since years. These two right here contradict eachother. You're right that it isnt trying to address a certain group. It is trying to address them all. Will it appeal more to the older audience? probably, doesn't mean you don't try to get the younger folks in too. And yes, Wurm is not trying to capture their attention by displaying a lot of skin on female characters. That's nothing new as well. No one said not asked that this be done. You just threw that one to incite response...which worked...see you used buzz words and hooks to get attention. You did why can't the trailer lol. The point isn't what audience are you going after, the point is what audience are you NOT going after because the answer to that should be none. And going with the trailer they have up right now not many people are going to give it a second glance. That trailer is both boring and very bland. As i said looks like ti took a whole 5-10 minutes to throw together and load up. The trailer made by a player that Warlander posted is hundreds of times over more engaging, and give you a sense of the massive scope of Wurm, It grabs you and says here come on an adventure with me. And as you see all the while does this while being totally clean of sex, drugs, rock n roll, and full frontal nudity....
  14. It's always good to have all the information from the various threads put into one FAQ post. not just for the ones that are lazy but the fact that some of the threads that good questions are answered on end up on back pages that no one is gonna read
  15. Yea im thinking the same thing. only cost would be the extra electricity having my "server" pc running. Which will not come close to the cost of the subs(i had 4), upkeep on deeds(3 of those), and so on...
