Harry, you want client to calculate dmg, hit detection? Ever heard about cheaters? It's even easier with java having lots of free decompilers around (easier to learn game protocol etc.). Animation on the other hand doesn't affect gameplay so you can trust client in that part.

Remember it's tcp based. Sure with tcp you can make quite fast paced games (blizzard games are tcp), but it might cause large lag spikes for client. And it would require higher update rate per player which means more work for server. Server is already laggy enought . fast paced combat + changable world don't fit into game with 5e/month.

So I managed to run some working fortress I think (atleast they don't starve!). I have 20 of those little buggers right now, most have useless skills so 6 are already in militia squad. As I'm lacking any metals, etc. I have usually 10 idlers sitting and watching how hard their brothers work. At beggining I spotted dwarf sleeping on doors. He was attaching them, and when done he took a nap wihout moving. Dwarfs also decided that food store I designed right at kitchen and farm is bad place for seeds and they stored all of them at other side of fort in furniture room. I noticed it when my farmer started to run back and forth to furniture room :/.

I started playing wurm years ago when my english was wel... bad. It's not perfect but due to eveveryone around using english, all names ingames in english I learnt it. I always say that Wurm is place where I learnt english. So I think multi-laungage is not required if you can make use of some translator or common sense .
