  1. that's my point.....how does one learn from mistakes...... by fixing it oneself.

My point is that Wurm often does not let the players fix it themselves.  And even when it does, it's usually excruciating.  I don't want "easy," I just don't want to spend hours of my life doing something veritably boring just because some game doesn't accurately simulate something.

this is true to an extent......    usually wurm doesn't allow non-prems to fix it. again  different discussion, but i see your point.

wurm is a time investment game in the end, plain and simple. there are things that i dont agree with as well, but i accept them and move on.

yes fence destruction is a terrible waste of an hour, but again, different schools of thought.

  2. We do familiarize with Wurm.  That requires making a lot of mistakes, however, and often those mistakes are the kind you deem "stupid."  I don't deny that some players are truly stupid, but often as not it's not actual stupidity but simply unfamiliarity.  There's no cure for the latter but experience.

that's my point.....how does one learn from mistakes...... by fixing it oneself.

I'd rather find another game if I were to find myself in such a ridiculous situation, if the game masters refused to help (which isn't the case, fortunately; they've been most helpful).  And I'm not even a "noob."  So much for simulation.

again, difference of opinion.... nothing negative here, but you would rather have someone else fix your mistakes the easy way, where i choose to accept it and move on.

Non-premiums cannot destroy walls, and even most premiums can't destroy the average wall without wasting an hour or so.

iirc i covered that when i said i realize not every newb can do that. this also blurs the line between prem and non prem, but that is another discussion.

That requires making a lot of mistakes, however, and often those mistakes are the kind you deem "stupid."

never once did i call them stupid,  unfortunate, yes.   regrettable, yes.   majority of the time does it fall back upon the player, yes.

  3. For example, there's no way in the real world that I would make a fence gate when I meant to make a fence, no matter how tired I am.  But guess what?  The other week, I did that very thing in Wurm for that reason.  And unlike in the real world, I couldn't simply attack it with my axe and reduce it to cordwood in a few minutes.  If Wurm were a good simulation, I could have amended my error easily instead of having to ask a game master to help me.

here is where you and i differ then...... i would have never asked.....i would do exactly what i did the last time i did this.... grab my hatchet and prep for the hourlong destroyfest. And while, yes i do see this as an unfortunate mistake, i also feel you should have to get your self out / destroy it. Sucks, but price you pay for lesson learned IMO.

there were a number of times that fell into mines, whiped out my maul and spent an hour getting myself out. and yes, i realize every newb can't do this, but an experienced player takes this into consideration in his travels.

as to many things in wurm not making sense vs real world.... you also must remember, wurm is only 'loosely' based on realworld terms. when moving into a new town, the first thing you do is familiarize yourself with the way things work. same with wurm.....find out what all its rules and quirks are, then adjust yourself to them.

  4. My first week in Wurm i locked everything in a 1x1 and went exploring, yes i died, lost my keys and was told in no uncertain terms.... your mistake   move on and learn from it.

Is this why you tend to take a very "tough luck" attitude towards player problems?  I mean no offence, Pacer; I know that you are trying very hard to do a good job being a moderator, and I think that you are doing better than some of the previous ones (who tended to simply not answer the /dev channel most of the time even when they were on).  But I've noticed that you are a lot more inclined than the game masters to just tell the player "that's your problem."

I am not more inclined to tell players tough... i just try to draw a clear line. Yes, i know there are many grey issues. More than once have i gone out of my way to find a player lost in the woods or trapped in a mine (poonager and ocean just this last few weeks alone), but you also have to realize... on certain things there has to come a responsibility as a player also.

Players fail to take any responsibility for their actions in most MMO's. Wurm is an entirely different culture than any other MMO out there, and players need to think for themselves here. There are no hints tips tricks or guides and missions ( NT guide doesn't count), this is a simulation and should be treated as such. If you were made privy to a few of the silly requests we see almost daily, i think you may begin to understand.

Now don't miscontrue anything i say here as a poor attitude, but i feel that players expect their little boo boo's to be fixed... o i put this in the wrong place...please remove it......o i dug this wrong.....please fill it.....omg i lost my body....please find it... No offense, but wurm is a SIM and IMO should have some harsher penalties than most games. there needs to be consequences for your actions, or else you never learn from them. Wander out, get lost and die, have your body returned to your spawn or found by a GM....what was the lesson here again............ lose your 3 silver and gear..... bet you won't do it again, or are more prepared next time. Build something in the wrong place.....GM please remove this for me. lesson learned here.... nothing.  Build something in the wrong place, and have to push it 20 tiles.... learning lesson.

  5. here is my take on the matter.

This is not a GM issue. sorry man, i know it sucks, but GM's are not here to resolve political affairs and hurt feelings. The amount of time, energy, and overall work that would go into a GM comming over, checking things out, checking account, on and on and on, makes it so much easier for you to just whip up a new hatchet anyway. GM's already have a laundry list of things to do when they log in due to those "CM'S that dance around issues" being frontline customer support and dealing with anything they can, saving the real problems for GM attention. Consider the Hatchet gone, move on and get another. Look at it at cost of a lesson learned. My first week in Wurm i locked everything in a 1x1 and went exploring, yes i died, lost my keys and was told in no uncertain terms.... your mistake   move on and learn from it.

As to the village recruiting. who holds the village deed? if it is worm, your only chance it to vote him out, have a new mayor then change the settings to prevent this again.

  6. Aggregate is another term for limestone materials nowadays.   aggregate = materials used in construction, including sand, gravel, crushed stone, slag, or recycled crushed concrete.   Actually pretty decent idea drago. would alleviate all those oopsies people make in mines. Could also be used to allow players to close their own entrences. or even allow this with existing mortar.

  7. That's how it is, yes. And I think it should stay that way...if you're doing your job so badly that 80% of your village wants you gone, chances are you probably shouldn't be mayor.

If you're concerned about people making alts to vote you out, remove everyone else's ability to invite new people.

while i agree with the sentement  maroon, the issue lies in this.

I buy a size 10 with my own money, no one helps me. i invite people into my village to help them. a low down dirty rat who can sweet talk everyone, convinces them i should no longer be mayor, that he can do better. i should lose MY deed, that i paid for with my own money?
