  1. Keep in mind that bricks take 16.5, and not the 20 you get from a mined rock shard. Also important to note is creation chances. Zadar's figures pay 10i per action IF the laborer's creation chance is 100%.
  2. I'm aware, but that doesn't keep the sermon group from recasting it (after the 2 years of course).
  3. Might as well keep casts going at the sermon group if it lasts long enough? People should just make sure their homes are covered by Mag altars if they want the benefit of free repairs.
  4. All of Epic and Chaos are PvP. The middle island of Epic (connecting the three kingdom "home" islands) requires premium, but it would still be possible for premium players from opposing kingdoms to visit your home kingdom. Skills are capped at 20 for all non-premiums, everywhere. (On Epic you can typically make things of a higher quality compared to your skill due to the skill curve, I'm not sure how that comes into play for non-premiums though.) I did some rereading, and apparently the resets were only a rumor, sorry. The skill increase on Epic is intended to keep the gap between staring players and veteran players closed a bit, to encourage lower-level players to play on Epic. Skills on Epic are permanent. Epic and Freedom are completely separate. You can travel between the two by means of Epic portals (made using logs and stone bricks). Basically, you have different characters on each cluster. When you travel to Epic, for the first time, you'll find your skills at level 1, no meditation path, no deity, etc.. You can move around freely within the clusters, but if you travel between them, there is a one-hour cooldown. I believe it puts you at the portal you left the other map from (or the default spawn-point for your kingdom if that's not applicable). You can keybind a lot of actions (continue, improve, repair, mine_forward, to name just a few), which makes things a lot easier and faster. As your skills increase, improving becomes easier as well, of course.
  5. Stealing isn't possible on the Freedom Isles (bar on the Chaos server), however it's still possible on the campaign-based PvP server-cluster Epic. Freedom is quite often described as the carebear server, with exception to the PvP-variant Chaos. Lava fiends and trolls are probably the most formidable enemy you're likely to encounter on a (semi-)regular basis. Older mobs are typically stronger, so mines and caves that haven't been cleared out are going to have tougher mobs inhabiting them. There are groups and villages that likely go out hunting, since skill-gain is given to all combat attendees and is not split in any way. If you want REALLY tough stuff, there are dragons, kyklopes, troll kings and goblin leaders on a limited basis on every server (Most servers still seem to have a few of these named uniques left). To kill them, you'd basically need a raid, since traditional methods to killing mobs don't apply. (You can't run through a gate or door to bandage your wounds and leap right back out - uniques will probably bash the building down before you finish.) They are unfortunately limited in some way, but the Epic servers are meant to reset regularly, to wipe the slate and put every player on the same footing. You're probably looking at joining a kingdom on Epic, then. The only restriction set by game mechanics is related to priesthood. A priest cannot improve or continue items, and depending on their religion they cannot do certain skills, such as mining, woodcutting or digging. This takes away most of the game's skills from being useful, since improving items is an integral part of the skill and quality system. However, priests are able to cast a variety of spells, ranging from enchanting weapons to do more damage, tools to work faster or give more skill, pendulums to locate rare schools of fish etc. to causing cave-ins in mines and creating temporary areas of lava to burn enemies. The non-game restriction is, of course, time. Getting a skill to 100 takes an awfully, awfully long time. Certain milestones such as 50 skill (for a title) or 70 skill (for an item's ideal efficiency) are a good thing to aim for, but doing that with every skill (even main skill) will take a long, long time. It's still theoretically possible, but almost every player has some degrees of specializations. Wurm definitely isn't an instant gratification game like Minecraft, or to a recent extent WoW. Things take time to build, skills take time to raise. Animals need to be tended to every now and then, houses and fences need to be kept repaired (unless on a deed or in PvP of course). As the game goes on and you raise your skills, things will become easier to do, though. Items are improved faster, houses and fences take less decay and player damage, etc. If you've raided on WoW (AND bothered to fish up your own fish), I'd imagine some investment of time is no big issue. As before, PvP sounds like your thing - try the Chaos server, or perhaps better, Epic. Ask and read around to find out which kingdom you want to join, then just hit up an Epic portal on Freedom Isles and start your adventure. ;D
  6. Personally, I'm waiting until DF2012. Toady aimed/estimated its release for January 15th, but since he actually cares about his game (unlike publishers), he's taking the time to fix outstanding issues. (And from what I can tell from the Dwarves front page blog, he's fixing quite a few.)
  7. I would definitely like to see this. I'd imagine it using the same pricing as we currently have (10€/60d and 10s/30d).
  8. Expand the signature limit, because Wurm's limit is just ridiculously low - you can't even put in a short quote. I have seen a few sites where signature are taken to ridiculous extremes, filled with pictures and banners. I've also seen sites where signatures are barely discernible from peoples' actual posts, due to the separating line being ill-visible. I've seen forums whose signatures were y-size limited, forcing it to become a little window with its own scroll-bar and interrupt your scrolling should your mouse happen to touch it while you were doing so. These are all avoidable issues. Limit image size, or just images in general. Make signature text a light, discernible shade of grey. Make the separator line more discernible. Limit the amount of lines a signature can have. I would point, as I seem to do quite frequently, to the Haven and Hearth or Dwarf Fortress forums, which in my opinion have perfectly acceptable signature rules.
  9. This sub-forum is for suggestions and ideas, not for complaints. :/
  10. Unfortunately seems to include the shop, as well.
  11. I'm a bit iffy on the multi-language UI. Bringing in non-English speakers into the game community could create certain language barriers that might negatively affect the community as a whole. Public chats being restricted to English is understandable and acceptable, but when one ever finds themselves in a situation in which they have no way of communicating with their neighbors due to a language barrier, things could get quite uncomfortable. I'm aware of the existence of online translators, but I'd say those aren't necessarily practical, especially when dealing with non-Latin script, such as Cyrillic.
  12. If someone with channeling 1 were to get a whole point from casting something, the linker with channeling 50 isn't going to get an entire 0.1 tick - it would obviously be scaled reasonably. Relevant should be the amount of favor you contribute. I don't know how favor is used up between linkers, but somebody whose favor is depleted probably shouldn't get very much skillgain. I'm sure there would be complaints concerning the ability to gain channeling (a slow, expensive skill) merely by being idle. The only way I could think of to avoid this is making the skill-gain small enough to not be a concern, but still be existant. Again, though, I can't imagine a worthwhile balance between being insignificant and being overpowered, maybe someone else would have an idea on that.
  13. It took some work on my part, but I convinced him to come watch.
  14. On logging onto my alt, one of the eggs named "dragon" hatched from his inventory and spawned a "Young dragon the chicken". After the server restart a little while later, the chicken seems to have lost its name and is a plain and simple "Young chicken".
  15. Only the fighters are getting keys. Organizers, butcher and crafter are already getting sets (OP also specifically states that organizers won't be getting keys), as are final-hitters and frequent-hitter (and should any of the fighters be one of these, it will leave spare keys).
  16. Latest update: I'd assume there are still some epic creatures lurking about, but that'll probably be the last of them.
  17. Not entirely sure I follow. You had two WL priests, and without thinking decided to use the free faith conversion that was given out for the removal of BL on Freedom? I very much doubt you could get support for that, since it's a decision you made - but as it is an unconventional game mechanic, it could be possible. I'll send my prayers to Magranon and hope for another free convert for your sake, though.
  18. This update will take away some significant privilege control possibilities. While I find it a neat idea to ally with my immediate neighborhood community, the inclusion of another friend to the alliance might not be agreed with by the other alliance members.
  19. As far as I know, the curio system was put into place to discourage botting. Some people had to go offline for work, sleep, school and the like, while others were on 24/7 with a steady stream of LP. LP-gain from actions was significantly reduced and shifted more towards curio, to close the gap between botters and non-botters since the devs didn't want to go about dropping banhammers or implementing serious anti-bot measures. I'm surprised it took until mid/late W3 before botting came about.
  20. Welcome to Haven & Hearth. It's probably less about killing you, and more about harvesting your delicious, easy LP.
  21. Sand slides down >40 slopes, and iirc it doesn't change every tile it passes along the way.
  22. +1. Gravel can conditionally be easier to apply (imagine trying to sand a >40 slope).
  23. Replace your Java 7 with Java 6, or use the unstable client. http://wurmonline.com/forum/index.php?topic=66462.0
