  1. I started to restate my points but I have said enough criticism which might diminish others enjoyment of something they would look forward to. It should be more fun added to the game and I am sure a lot of work was put into creating it. My apologies to all..... =Ayes=
  2. Forums Postmortem

An excellent post Keenan! even though the technicalities of it are beyond my comprehension it does exude a calming influence of stability within it. The experience just points out how valuable a communication point the forums are for the playerbase through this plotting against them by microscopic entities. =Ayes=
  3. I see this as a new server attempting to create "equality" amongst all who decide to *pay* (Premium only) to play upon it; but, what does this really contribute to the game of Wurm Online since all Characteristics/Skill points, constructions, creations and items obtained there are not transferred to your Character when returning to any of the servers where you came from. Wurm Online is not about "equality" it is about the progress of your Character which then enables you to play the game on a higher creative and strong basis. In this respect it is worthless and even worse for new players since when they return to the server they came from their Character has obtained zero progress. A flawed concept in this respect as contributing anything of *substantial* value to the main game (Characteristics/Skills of the player Character). Merely time frittered away for the possibility of some cosmetic item applications. Better to create an *additional* Jackal Hunting Server with the same environment and creatures that any current Premium player can portal to in the same manner with the same Characteristic/Skill gains as are currently in game that will apply to your Character when you portal back to the departure point of the server from which you left. Then lets see which of these two servers that players will *choose* to spend more of their time upon. Even for the new player this will be better since their Character will actually see the progress upon their return home. I mean why would I really want to spend any time on this proposed Jackal server other than just for a curious look around. After thinking about this for some time the above is the conclusion I have come to. There is no "equality" within Wurm and never will be as the game is not designed on that basis. It is all about accomplishment, which is sustained over the years which makes it compelling to continue to play. Sorry, as I don't see this server setup to contribute to the game in that regard. Happy Trails =Ayes=
  4. Those of us who have played Ultima Online have experienced the positives of player book creations with their content stories. Even their bulletin boards were easy to use to post brief messages to anyone with no additional objects needed. If player created books were simplified within Wurm with this design just think of the stories that any player might choose to leave behind. Those who quietly leave the game never to be seen again might choose to leave a permanent note (books with no decay) within them. Some who are even close to departing that other world might make mention of this mystery of their missing within the game by a book note left behind where otherwise they might not choose to reveal their imminent demise. Actually, this method would be my preferred never to be seen again note of departure. Then someone sifting through the ruins of my deed might find it and either save it as a memento to show others or throw it in a trash bin as just another useless piece of junk..... =Ayes=
  5. Finally I see the culprit behind these new lands! It is none other than JackA.L.(ornmere)! Here behind this thinly veiled disguise he seeks to lure poor unsuspecting Wurmanites to this new land of doom that he has created, distorted by his weird experiments, as these leaked pictures so dimly reveal. Do not be deceived my friends (even those that aren't) for once you travel there you will not return to our fair Wurm lands with your sanity intact, for this I fear is the transformation to your "character" that will return with you, should you ever find your way back. Hardly a bonus to be sought for your adventures, eh? *puts feet up by the fire and watches for their return* =Ayes=
  6. At least when players complain that this new server is full of *bugs* they won't be wrong. =Ayes=
  7. Seems some missed the "faster" part here; but yeah the 6 month termination point and deletion of all accomplishments there are negatives to be considered. Although some compensation may make time spent there of some value to Wurm Characters indicated by this statement: What exactly this means remains to be seen but to me this would be the main reason to spend any time there beyond a curious look around. If it is of little value in that respect I would see this as just another WU type of server not really up to par with more established better ones available to play upon for your Wurm diversionary experience. As with all things, time will tell. Yet one of the main drawing points of Wurm is the ability to build your Character over years of time and have your skills and accomplishments remain as both testament to that and the further enjoyment of the game that they provide. Hopefully this "Next Frontier" will be a further benefit to the main game. We shall see..... =Ayes=
  8. Brilliant! A masterpiece of design integrated into its watery environment. The music perfectly suited the slow flow around and through it all in a melancholic sort of abandoned loneliness and yet at ending the sun arises over it with the light of new possibilities. Anything but your failure of words to describe it all adequately. Fantastical! =Ayes=
  9. Tristanc did an excellent job above at outlining the history of Golden Valley and its function. Many years ago all players started there and roamed the server freely to settle wherever they wished and then learn to further enjoy the game. The big transition from it at that time was making the decision to leave its relative security and take the Portal to either the Freedom or Wild server. I remember playing on Golden Valley for several months before I finally decided to depart on my great adventure onto Freedom. It's sort of funny to reflect back upon it that I actually had a bit of fear to make this step. Then of course to be able to do so at that time the player had to *pay* to upgrade their account to a Premium one ahead of time. Then I remember heading to the Portal in Glitterdale which was the little town I had settled next to. All my meager belongings I had stuffed into my small cart dragging it next to the Portal. There a few other abandoned ones were scattered about by other players who had done the same thing. Then I took out all the items that my weight limit could carry, which included another small cart uncompleted but for 1 small nail. Since I could then barely move an inch the idea was to click the portal, pop out on Freedom at Samling (which was then the starter Village on Freedom) and finish my small cart there to load everything in it to be able to move once again. Now the grand adventure had begun, which for me has not ended to this very day. Not long after this it was decided that anyone who currently started or was on Golden Valley could portal over to Freedom whenever they wished without the need to be a Premium player. This idea evolved further over time and the decision was made that there was now no reason to isolate new players initially on Golden Valley but rather after completing the Tutorial there they should immediately make the choice to Portal over to Freedom at the new starter Village of The Howl. Sadly (to me anyway) shortly after The Howl was created as the new starter Village Samling was disbanded and the buildings slowly rotted away. Right away I did make a deed there and named it Historic Samling, keeping it for some time while reworking all the sanded sloping areas into a more terraced and tree planted area. Also preserved the original spawn point (Token spot) of Samling at its elevation by flattening and putting some fencing around it. Later got it approved as a Historic/Heritage Site, for what could be more historic than that! You may have even seen "Rolf" standing there at the completion of the Independence 10 year event. Yes, there is so much History to our fair game of Wurm, many faceted, all created and shaped by the many players who have passed through these lands. Some have left, some remain and other new ones arrive; but, through it all the game remains as evidence of their footsteps. Happy Trails =Ayes=
  10. Somehow I don't think that the collective of individuals (the Wurm Staff and Owner) that are making these decisions as to how the player Market/Economy will function are adjusting it in terms of how the players can make the most money/profits from playing the game. I would imagine that they are more interested in the game making enough profit to pay the various operating expenses and paying the Wurm Staff/Contractors a competitive wage to keep them interested in their employment within/without the company. This illusion that the player "Market" is of the most importance to focus upon and improve is just a player fiction created and perpetuated by those who make their few coins from it. It is just one facet of a multi-aspect gameplay. A minor draw to some players, hyped up to major proportions as being the only thing of importance to sustain player interest over time. You might notice that not much Developer attention is paid to it other than over the years an occasional attempt to adjust some of the excessiveness of it downwards in terms of payouts. As long as the game achieves the main goals of a profitable business I suppose there is little harm in these types of player "Market" speculations and resolutions. Good for amusement purposes only, of course. =Ayes=

*agrees with As_I_Decay and Spolmit* These Wurm Online forums are a wonderful recording of the thoughts and aspirations of those who have participated within those far off lands beyond times restrictive embrace. You can gain insights into people where these pages allow the chance for more detailed meanderings into their thought process than the fleeting passage of their brief responses within the game where thoughts have little room to expand into these diatribes of exaggeration or insights so profound as to confound the unfounded perplexities of life's simulations within the boundaries of screen scenes simulations. True too that some of these individuals have passed into the unknown and will never be read again within the presence where we dwell. Yet here in part they remain in individual letters combined so diverse as to be marveled that their combinations would leave the traces of both the joys and tears of their passage. Then you might either find relief in no longer needing to consider their intrusive thoughts or sorrow in that you may just miss whatever particular distinctions and insights that had formerly been available due to at least the ability to softly tap these messenger keys through the anguish that in their final days they chose to triumph over in a last breath of significance to imprint upon these memories of their past. The solution of course to this situation if it become intolerable in certain situations and personalities too divergent from one's own is to simply slam the door with merely the press of a key and onto the next post or topic which one would deem to be of at least a gleam of interest withstanding the scrutiny of delicate sensibilities of the beholder. Just remember that soon enough some of those whom we really had no idea who they were due to the safety that hides within obscurity, may quietly depart without the slightest hint as to the why or when of it. Then where would we be if not to stumble across their ramblings here or thoughts as firm and inflexible as the rock mountains of these lands in their insistence that what should be is as the way they see it. Then will you miss their thoughts when they have departed? Or will they miss yours as well? Only the Unknown slyly hides the answer, where in the end speculation will no longer be endured. Until then at least we have these forums to wander at our own leisurely pace, traveling back in time to decipher hidden gems or the petrified remains of whatever the whoever had however perhaps never intended. Happy Trails =Ayes=
  12. I just got a 102 dm enchant on my mailbox from Xsamuraizx/Boilingfort as advertised here! A great friendly service that was too hard to resist since I paid for it in Garlic. Smelly stuff too, so I am surprised that anyone would accept it as payment. Just be sure to keep a safe distance from the caster if you are sensitive to the odor. Other than that. Well done and appreciated. =Ayes=
  13. What do you look like

Mount Desert Island, Maine. Reminds me of when I was there maybe 30 years ago on a drive up into Canada along the coast. Stopped also at Mount Katahdin at the start of the northern end of the Appalachian Trail to climb up a short ways. In October there was a chill in the air and in a sort of high valley I came to a spot where I crouched down to see fog like clouds swiftly being pulled down into it and then lofted back up over the higher mountain tops. In the stillness with no one around I found this movement to be very soothing, to know that in isolation peace could still be found in the more remote settings of the world. A wise move to see more of the world in your youth when strength and time remaining in this life provide the best opportunity to do so. I found the cliffs along the shore of the province of Labrador to be even more dramatic of a sight with their high rocky drops into the Atlantic shoreline. If you enjoy remote locations where few others live in small settlements this would be a compelling journey to make. I wish you well in your travels and explorations. As for me at my time of life, although it may seem strange to some, the Wurm worlds provide much of this same experience of quiet reflection and peace; therefore, I am content with what of the world I have seen and what of Wurm I see now. Although we each must walk our own paths in life, we may still know something of what others are experiencing as well. Some are just less prone to share it all. Happy Trails =Ayes=
  14. Although I find this verse to be full with wisdom, it opens forth a lofty path upon which only the saints of virtue can trod, one careful foot at a time placed before the other. After having fallen to the rocky shores below all too often, in the silence I gazed upwards once again and wondered why I had even ventured there. Yet a new path beckoned me onwards with the thought that somewhere up ahead just beyond time's horizon the answers lay, with a welcome finally to the home that I never knew I had forgotten. For in the end we all must open that door, alone... Anyway, thanks for these words shared that provide the impetus to introspection. Happy Trails =Ayes=
  15. What about seals of approval? Say for instance if someone *likes* your post or agrees with it. This blanket approach of removing all seals is not the best one, I say. Come to think of it we can also seal some containers to prevent decay of contents. Remove this "seal" also? Naw, this "seal removal" is a bad idea and doesn't get my approval (if that is of any concern, other than the sight rhyme here,). =Ayes=
  16. No! "Nerfing" iron as your post title indicates should not be done to benefit steel use. Iron is the main crafting material for all metal items and this suggestion would diminish the current effectiveness of all those items. Steel items already take less damage than iron anyway so I am not too sure that it even needs to be increased further in comparison to iron. A very bad idea to punish all players that use iron items just to benefit the steel producers. =Ayes=
  17. Keybinds are the way to go. Hit F1, at bottom type in, bind m mine_forward (or key of your choice), hit enter. Done! Look at the response in that window that shows the bind was accepted and you are good. Also when you bring up the screen to log onto the game there is a "Settings" gear looking thing to click and in there you can choose many keybinds to set quite easily. As for Guard Towers to settle near you just need to wander around to see, unless someone knows area specifically and will respond. Always best to settle near one so smart choice there. =Ayes=
  18. I think a big problem that we have in terms of a Wurm "economy" or "market" is that there is no precise definition of it layed out beforehand so that the issue can be addressed accurately. Everyone seems to have their own idea of what this means so they go off on their own interpretation of it. In the terms you have stated, yes Wurm can have an "economy" because many people will prefer not to create and obtain items on their own game time so they will purchase them from others. I see no problem with this *if* anyone with sufficient effort could do this on their own if desired and no skills or abilities that are gained over time are artificially designed to decline to benefit this "market". The big bugaboo here is when players come up with schemes to benefit their specific ability to dominate some aspects of this "market" because then it comes at the expense of increasing the costs of playing the game for all the others. The "market/economy" should always be secondary to the opportunity of all players to become participants within it or not without increasing their game playing costs disproportionately, which unfortunately I think many of these player suggestions to improve the "market/economy" do (increase costs). Then fortunately on the other hand few are ever adopted as being beneficial to the game anyway. =Ayes=
  19. Nexus Gates

Those of us who play on some of the WU servers that have Portals for traveling have seen the positive aspects of getting to other far reaching locations swiftly. They work in various ways on the different servers but my favorite is the lightweight Teleporter that is carried in Inventory. With this then you can add your deed to it if wanted or if not then you can still teleport to any other deed that has added theirs to this system. You can even add your name too and players can then teleport directly to your location. It gets recharged with Favor but anyone can be a Priest there with all spells available and no penalties. Can even create Favor recharging items from rock shards. I am not suggesting that WO go to this extent but as Amadee mentioned, even just Portals in every server Starter Village to every other Starter Village on all PvE servers would be very beneficial to all players wanting to gather for player created events or just to visit other servers. Just simplify the system like this without any player need to create or maintain them. Minus the mob infestations too of course. =Ayes=
  20. Great suggestion! As KillerSpike mentioned it would be a convenience for those of us who own several deeds and have made them into an Alliance. Also yes, the mayor of each deed should be able to opt into this and even then set those within their own deed to be able to see these upkeep balances or not. =Ayes=
  21. I think you got lost in the forest of OT to make this post; but along those lines I must say that trees are the best part of Wurm. Better that this type of tree killer was felled than the trees. I have most likely planted more trees over time than they have cut down anyway. It's just that when this type of slaughter is advocated more maniacs (good labeling) join the cause, more trees shed their tears of sorrow to water the sproutlings under them. Anyway, WU is a better choice for tree hugging as some servers seem to cherish their presence. =Ayes=
  22. I am not much interested in what you do with your rares in the privacy of your own home. Beyond this, what captures and sustains a players interest in the game starts to diverge from this thread topic so I don't want to get too far off track into that direction other than as it pertains to the "current market". I will say though that what you describe as your motivations and satisfactions are not my own that have held my interest in the game all these years and continue to do so. In my view it has only improved greatly in these areas of my own interests. =Ayes=
  23. Stop the archeology greediness! These are/were created from Masonry skill out of stone shards and if brought back should remain available to be created that way. Add creation from marble too would be great. =Ayes=
  24. Peanuts!

I think these are farm crops on the outside so it would seem to me that the same should be here. Not that I really see much need for them though. =Ayes=
  25. Nexus Gates

No way this should take place within starter towns. The location should be in some isolated area far away from them and difficult to get to. This location is even worse than Rifts which can still be quite close to active deeds with their mobs and deforestation. Denied! =Ayes=
