  1. Well, this is of great interest that Rolf has decided to get some up to date experience traveling through the wonders of his creation. I am not at all surprised that he has decided to start out on the Epic servers, as PvP has always been his mindset and Epic a major goal of that aspect. Still, it is a good start in better understanding the game from the players viewpoint and I am sure he will gain many new insights from the experience. As now players in the vicinity of his journeys will be constantly wondering if this anonymous new player is the fabled god of Wurm (Rolf), I think it would be best if he did not post these hints of his passing and travel objectives so as not to recieve preferrential treatment from people who would otherwise ignore or mess with him as some noob to take advantage of. This will give him a more clear indication of what the new player has to go through to get established in the game and community. Also, I would think that it would be easier for Rolf to just start another alt character on the Freedom Isles servers to try to remain incognito while journeying and exploring there. Actually a few alts would save time on Freedom Isles as he could then just pop up at the starter towns and wander out from there. Ahh well, I am sure we all have our own views as to what Rolf should and should not do, so I am sure he will just hear what we have to say and make his own decisions from there. Enjoy your Wurm experience Rolf and I hope you can visit and admire some of the great creations we players have created from this great blank slate that you have enabled us to participate in. After all, if not for you these worlds would not exist. Safe journeys. =Ayes=
  2. Stavros, If this is an indication of your bad experience with another player; "I think I poked around too much on "Second Chance's" property sorry!", then pay that unidentified person no mind, as you have every right to wander anywhere in the game (on deed, perimiter or off) that is not fenced/walled off to prevent you from doing so. I won't go further into this "mysterious" individuals character but they are the exception to the rule of the friendly neighbors in the area. Also, there is an ignore option so you don't have to listen to anyones rantings if you choose not to. As for iron, if you step out your gate and head east along the lake cobble road, it runs a short way to end at a new Public Iron Mine with a wood door on it set to be open to anyone. Inside there are 2 iron veins, a forge, bulk bin and trash bin made for public use by another "mysterious" individual with different motivations than the first one you mentioned. This is on a friendly neighbor deed perimiter, so don't let some foolish person try to convince you that you have no right to be there. Enjoy! =Ayes=
  3. Jontomxire, I had also played WoW for many years before I started playing Wurm. As you have noted, this is a totally different gaming experience and there is nothing offered here that remotely compairs to the superior monsters, dungeons and PvP (which you have never stated you participated in) action offered in WoW. I stopped playing WoW many months ago because I prefer the environmental and building aspects of this game. You do have a fairly clear understanding of how this game mechanics function to achieve these ends, as well as the crafting aspect. From your responses here, I would face the reality that this game is clearly not what you are looking for and it would be rather pointless to advise you otherwise. We all enjoy online games for different reasons which makes one type superior over others through our own eyes; so I would not try to persuade you to continue with Wurm but rather find the game that best suits your own mindset. P.S. Please delete and wood shack you might have constructed by clicking the "writ" and choosing the appropriate option. Happy trails. =Ayes=
  4. I bid 3 silver! Too bad the QL is that high for a skiller. Is there any fast way to reduce it to say 20 QL? =Ayes=
  5. Pashka, I would like to purchase this item: Rake 19q 81coc 2.1s Needs to be wrapped for mailing. So can only be mailed to Indy. Wrap and mail to Ayes on Independence. Thank you. =Ayes=
  6. Close please

I bid 3 silver! =Ayes= P.S. I notice that you come up with some nice high CoC items. Would you be interested in makeing me a low QL (under 20) skilling hatchet with over 90 CoC on it?
  7. Thank you for the response Violetann. Just let me know what you come up with then. =Ayes=
  8. Stavros, Good to hear that you have settled there and the facilities set up have been of help to you. We have a wood mine door on the mine with the sign -Locals Mine- to protect it from random people damaging the inside of it. I will add your name to it so that you can also enter it. We never found an iron vein inside after much mining but if you go to the lake road I mentioned, head back towards Green Dog and the second mine opening you come to with an iron gate 1 tile away from it has an iron vein inside there. Unfortunately some griefer type player dug the floor down into the water many months ago, so it is a bit difficult for access. There is still a forge in there for smelting if you bring some type of fuel source with you. A player named Shadowtaimat lives in a stone house in your area and is the caretaker of that area. He is very helpful, so be sure to say hello if you see his name in local chat. Hope you enjoy your Wurm experience. =Ayes=
  9. Hello Violetan, I would like to purchase a low Ql (under 20) IRON skilling hatchet with over 90 coc. Please post here if you are willing to make one for me. I can wait for your casting behaviors to co-operate if need be. Thanks. =Ayes=
  10. That's what you get for collecting all those gnomes Othob. They turn into an army and start a rebellion. =Ayes=
  11. Hello Gatwick, Thank you for your response by PM. I would want to purchase this hatchet: 2s45+COD - 7ql CoC90; but my concern is that if I want to improve it to fine tune the effect must I use steel to do so? If this is the case then I will pass on it and wait to purchase a iron one in the future. =Ayes=
  12. Thanks for the response Hordern. I will do as you have suggested. =Ayes=
  13. Mmmmm, Elias, allies do get pick up permissions on the allied deeds, it is just that Joedobo stated that players/villages added to the blank "Village" fill in the name box do not get this permission. Good to hear that you agree with making an option box for this though. I can say that on all my normal allied deeds in the main alliance, I can indeed pick up any items on those deeds, although this is not the point I was addressing in my comments. =Ayes=
  14. To address Boj's comment, there is nothing in the least "incoherent" in Myst's comments, they are very in depth, detailed, analytical and on topic. As I did not start this thread to dispute anyone's character I shall not turn in that direction in further response. I see Spellcast is basically indorsing (somewhat) the concept of creating Server and Deed Portals; however, I do not think that the playerbase should be charged any fee to use them. I am sure it would cut down on their use as a convienent travel option but it defeats the purpose (or at least negates it to a large extent) by imposing a cost upon using them. I find it a bit peculiar that when certain improvements to the game are proposed there are many times comments stating that it would be ok if there were an additional cost charged for their use. We already have additional charges tacked on to "optional use" features such as deed guards, shaker orbs, twigs, stones, ect., that are subtle forms of increased costs to playing the game; tacking them onto Deed and Server Portals in the form of paying real life currency for their use is unjustified as a game mechanic and self defeating in making them attractive options for player use. As far as to the comment, "why we are talking about this instead of boats", to state the obvious, that would be that this thread is about Deed and Server Portals, whereas there is another huge thread on this same sub-forum about boats. =Ayes=
  15. Radon, Calm down. This is not a personal attack against you. I stick by all that I have posted in this thread however. There are large cave canal projects on the Independence server that have been completed successfully with a open access policy inviting people to come and participate at their convenience. They were supervised by responsible people, yes, who saw to it that the project was not left uncompleted and sealed off, unlike this "Public Project". Now whoever started this project and participated in it have every right to just seal it off and say the heck with anyone else using it, as they have clearly done; but to try and present it as a continuing "Public Project" under these circumstances is nonsense. There are many public mines and mine tunnels on all servers open for everyone to use and as I stated the only damage I see in them is from others digging the floors down, which will always be the case unless Rolf decides to do something to prevent this. Therefore, I stick with my opinion (not demand as you put it) that this mine tunnel should be opened to the public. If you choose to continue to work on this project according to your own desires, it seems that you are the person who currently controls access, so no one really could prevent you from doing so. I just posted to ask about the current status of this so called "Public Project" and the discussion went on from there. =Ayes=
  16. The more I think about this inability to pick up anything on deed for whoever's/whatever's name is put in the village name box, the more I don't like this restriction. Say you want to put a workers name in there and have them take mats out of a bin outside a house on deed. Nope, can't do it. Say you put a friends Village name in there so they can pass through your gates and remove a item you imped for them from a locked chest that you both have a key for for that purpose. Nope, can't do it. If this is indeed the case, a new x box should be added to the settings labeled "Pick Up", so when x'd it would allow them to pick up items on deed under these circumstances. Still, I don't understand why if you add a player name or village to this box it would prevent them from picking up items on the deed when all the other setting names (citizen, ally, ect.) allow them to pick up items; thus I am wondering if this is really the way it works. Has anyone else tried it and found that this is accurate? =Ayes=
  17. Closed

I already have a skilling hatchet at 84 CoC but I am still wanting to purchase another one with 90+ CoC. =Ayes=
  18. Arkenor, You pretty much have it down as I see it. Basically they labeled it as a "Public Project", completed the access all the way through the mountain and then abandonded the project without a care that they had sealed it off so that none could use it. I see no need to have have the tunnel sealed off until it has been dug 2 tiles wide and completely reinforced. What can others do to harm it? Dig side tunnels? Big deal. If someone wants to ruin the tunnel, they could still dig down the floors, even if all the walls are reinforced (and Rolf has still given us no way to repair mine floors by the way). And as it is now, even if others were willing to come and do some work on it on their spare time, they have no way to enter it to do any work on it. Open the tunnel and make a new post saying that others can now enter to work on it at their convenience. =Ayes=
  19. And after all these comments, I have read nothing that dissuades me from my original thought that Deed Portals based on the concept that Rolf has instituted for the Epic servers would be a good and positive benifit for the playerbase. As to my "can of Wurms" statement that several people have refered to; my meaning there was that Rolf has shown that he has the ability (coding) to make Deed Portals function, so he has in effect opened a can of Wurms (worms if you prefer) as can be shown by the dissention for and against the subject by the responses within this thread. If there were still one Freedom Isles server I would not think this concept of enabling Deed Portals on all servers would be as necessary and useful to negate the time sink of travel to them such as exists now. As the game changes and progresses old ways should be adjusted for the benifit of the playerbase and future attraction and retention of new players as well, which I believe Deed Portals would do as addition to the game. In citing examples of the superior options for travel in games such as Ultima Online and WoW (and even Active Worlds not that I think of it), I am not suggesting that Wurm in any way should be turned into clones of them or even their travel options; however, Deed Portals with central server Portals would be a good basis for reducing the travel time sink within Wurm and Rolf has shown that they can be implimented with the Epic server Portal concept. At any rate, I wanted to bring the subject to the forfront and the response against this concept does not surprise me in the least (although I do not see the logic in it). Although I greatly respect the time, effort and contributions of the old time players, I do not agree with their idea that travel must remain within the original concept of walking, horses and boats in order to keep Wurm unique and Wurmlike. There are many other positive and special aspects that Wurm offers that other games do not, which is why I spend my time playing this game and not the others; but I don't find the time sink, which is traveling, to be one of them. =Ayes=
  20. Yes, Heritage Sites as described above. There is some way for a player to apply to have an area classified as such and the procedure for doing so is what I am wanting to find out. I see I was using the wrong term for this. Thanks for some clarification. =Ayes=
  21. If Rolf makes "boats" at locations around the servers like in WoW where you hop on them to cross to the different continents/servers in under a minute, then I am all for faster boats. Otherwise..... *yawns* =Ayes=
  22. Wurmians, I have read all your responses with interest. From those that have posted against enabling Deed Portals, I have read nothing that has influenced me to move to their side of the proposition. From those that have posted for enabling Deed Portals, I have pondered upon and considered your thoughts myself. Travel in Wurm as it exists now is truly a forced "time sink" and should be a choice rather than maintained as is. Central server Portals and Deed Portals would still force people to travel initially to set them up and therefore they really don't compair with the ease of travel in games like Ultima Online and WoW, but they would be a step in the right direction in my mind. As I spend the vast majority of my time working on my deeds in one close walking location, if this concept is not adopted it would effect me little either way; however, that dosen't change my opinion that they should be adopted for the benifit of the current playerbase and future positive direction of the game. =Ayes=
  23. hmmmm, well that's interesting but to me the un-cool thing is that if I put my friends Village in that block, then they still can't pick up things on my deed that I leave there for them, nor take items from my bins that I leave in there for them as well. =Ayes=
  24. Yea, it is scarey when you see that red text pop up saying that so-and-so skill has been REDUCED to 20, heh. =Ayes=
  25. Ago, I think the "Village" block you can fill in is used for specific villages within the existing alliance that you want to designate certain specific roles to and thus would not apply to villages that are not within that alliance. I go along with Joedobo and his reasoning for the new alliance system being more restrictive then the previous one and thus not as benificial to the Freedom Isles playerbase. In my case I now have only my own deeds in my alliance, whereas with the old system I added a friends deed onto one of my other deeds only for pickup of itmes on deed. =Ayes=
