"You may only have a free coffee if you pay us the price of a coffee."

Got a chuckle out of this statement but naw, it's more like you don't get the free cream without buying the coffee. Then without buying the coffee you don't get a cup, so what good would the free cream do you then anyway?

This opportunity to provide real cash prizes to our lovely creatives is powered by G-Loot. See G-Loot's terms and conditions here.

Seems like a nice idea and fun competition for players to enter; however, I don't see what this G-Loot has to do with it. I went to their website and see that their app must be downloaded and run at the same time that you are playing certain games so they can track various competitions by monitoring your game statistics. How that fits into this competition is unclear to me. Furthermore they don't even list which games (only 15+ at this time) they are compatible with. Anyway, I am not sure that the performance issues of ones computer would not be diminished by using this app nor that their monitoring ones gameplay would be desirable either. Perhaps I am not understanding the meaning of their "powering" these cash prizes and would be interested in some clarification on this aspect. Thanks.

  3. I would like to see a new SF Isles server with NO hostile mobs of any type on it. Everything else on it can function exactly the same as the other SF Isles servers, i.e. skills etc. Open to any current character that wants to sail to it or spawn there as a new character. This has never been done before so it is not the same as any current server in existence. In that respect it offers a new *type* of server.

Rather, there should just inherently be greater value in cooperation compared to going it solo, which maintains the option of being solo if so desired but creates a snowball effect of "people needing people --> needing people being enjoyable --> more people join in because of the interesting emergent things that wouldn't have happened otherwise

I see no inherent nobility in being an individual who prefers to do things with others, which you are exalting here by giving them preferential treatment in return for their social co-operation, as already they are benefiting from this by the ability to accomplish more and the satisfaction that they get by this social interaction. "People needing people" is not actually enjoyable at all for those people who prefer to be more self sufficient. Perhaps these people who prefer to accomplish things on their own without any dependence upon others are actually more together within themselves than these social ones who have some "need" to interact with others to find similar satisfaction.

So here with this post you make *alts* the target when in reality you seem to want to punish the individual who prefers to do things alone by either removing alt assistance or giving some sort of preferential benefits to social groups and activities. This just seems unfair and controlling to me in that you seem to believe that socially active people are the preferred playstyle as a reflection of your and societies way of life. People are different and should be who they are, be they loving to do things with others or preferring to mainly do things on their own; thus, the game of Wurm Online provides all with their own choice of gameplay depending upon ultimately their own personality.

Fortunately this game offers more freedom of choice than RL where societies dictates either subtly encourage pursuing common goals and interaction with others or blatantly enforce it with their confining rules and punishments. The "loner" types are then looked down upon or with suspicion by those social types who simply can not comprehend why anyone doesn't think as they do about the delights of interpersonal interactions. I don't think that the game was specifically planned out to give each individual the choice as to how they prefer to play it but this is the way that it has turned out and my preference is that it remain that way with acceptance of these diverse styles of playing it and ultimately allowing people to be who they are without the judgement and needs of others interfering with it.

If alts are abused in some certain instances then those should be dealt with and alts remain as useful for other "less sociable" purposes. Mainly I see no problem with them and feel at ease about letting others play the game as they wish as far as social interactions are concerned.

:( no but one can only hope for the poor ducks.. poor poor ducks... RISE OF THE QUACKERS!!!

I hope they will be *smart* too, then we will have Wise Quackers! Don't try to ride them though because they will break easily and leave crumbs on the ground.

  6. I have a couple of Twigs on Ayes I bought years ago. One I keep updated/set to a tree on deed just in case I might get stuck somewhere due to a bug. Also could be exploring some long mines and exiting a locked mine door onto someone's deed; thus being locked on their deed if no one is around. Mainly a self sufficient option not needing to contact anyone else for help in some unusual situation. Probably wouldn't buy any these days due to the karma option to recall home instead if necessary.

  7. A great topic which brings to mind so many of the "best" changes/additions made to the game over the years. Overall I have always viewed the game as progressing in a positive manner. A few not listed:

Level Mine Floors/Ceilings at 90+ Skill: Finally! no more unavoidable dips and bumps in mine floors and ceilings when a new wall is mined out. A great reward for reaching this skill *level*.

Reinforced and Paving Mine Floors: Another great addition to add more pleasing designs to mine floors and protect them from newbie digging damage as when completed they can't be removed without the proper tool.

ConcreteAlthough a very tedious and excessive mat creation process, the end result is that at last moderate mine floor bumps could be leveled out.

Care For Horses: Our favorite horses lives could be protected against death almost forever. Of course always the "hitch" is that they could be killed in combat while ridden if the mobs switched to them as target. It happened quite frequently when this change was made years ago but thankfully it was toned way down over the years and now rarely happens.

Looking back over the years all these new improvements have made the game more enjoyable for everyone and I would expect more of the same in the years to come.

    Happy Trails

I'm wondering though if this changes in anyway if you play without enchants (like I do because of "religious" reasons - being an atheist in game) or if enchants or no enchants they stay the same.

Since you will not be having enchants on your weapons for some time, I would say that it would be best to mitigate the damage that you take buy using a shield and some 1 handed weapon. 1 handed weapons are generally faster and miss less than 2 handed as well, especially at lower skill. You may take longer to kill mobs but in the end you will die less with better protection from the shield. I now prefer a longsword and shield and no longer use my 2 handed weapons but of course mine are enchanted for healing and better skill gains.

If guard towers are near just call the guards and let them get aggro while you stay back. Then you can attack and still gain skill at a slower rate because of sharing the killing with them. You can shield bash too for gains then.

My very first experience with Wurm at all, where I found a horse and immediately attacked it in the woods....

You certainly documented your start within these Wurm lands very specifically in detail for posterity within your website journal. Excellent! All I have are vague memories of running up hillsides and tumbling down due to lack of stamina, which was quite a frustrating surprise to me since within Active Worlds I could fly around everywhere while doing building tasks. Then too I remembering discovering a small wooden house hidden in the woods at the end of some cobbled path, which filled me with wonderment of what more there might be to discover.

So come back in the year 2036 and maybe Valheim's wiki and forums will be as helpful ^_^

Point taken *but* I still think that Valheim's main website is lacking in some very basic information. As for how to "run", I messed around hitting some keys and found that holding down W and Shift together enables running. Also, on raising ground with the hoe, pressing mouse2 brings up the menu for that, I found out.

I do miss having numerous random people in the game as Wurm does. Always nice to have them in the background doing their own thing and changing the environment, even though not in direct contact with them most times.

  11. Well, I killed the first deer boss today. Used my now #3 flint spear and #3 wood shield. I found that the shield blocking works very well, even for those lightning strikes he throws out. Otherwise I would have been dead. I made the antler pick and lowered some rock just a bit too much and I can't figure out how to raise it with the hoe. How is this done?

Also, I notice that I have 0 running skill. Maybe when I press Q I am still walking? So I am not sure how to run either.....
