  1. You actually missed a lot more but thanks for the opinion anyways I guess. I've never played minecraft so I don't know exactly what you're referring to. I never said playing in a village was bad, what I had asked was how most villages were run - but i guess since you didn't read it..
  2. I'm not quite sure, where I should put this so hopefully, this is the right space for it. I've been playing Wurm for a few weeks, and have come to really like it for the most part. My question or maybe questions are these.. It's gotten kind of long, sorry. How do you decide the best place to settle, when you are becoming a solo player? I've stayed out of the path of villages and deeds because building on someone else's door step is rude, and I get that. I would like to stay to an area that does have some kind of traffic to it. The extra help when something pops out of the woods at you is nice, and the added bonus, it's not so easy to get lost when you're not just a bunch of trees that look the same. I've also looked at the resources that are in the area and took that into account. I think there, I am covered, tar, water/fish - however, ore and rock shards not so easy. Grass tiles could also be nice and throw some veggies and seeds at me once in awhile, but I figure I will get there one way or another. My temporary place, is alright for the time being but it's a very hilly area and let me tell you making it some what flat, is a pain. The trees in the area are also not great. I've been doing a lot of pruning and planting to try to help with that. Even if I don't stay in the area at least the other solo's will have some decent trees when they need the wood/harvests etc. Locals and local chat has proved friendlier than village life for me. Helping those around you when you can quite often gets you help and advice in return - unfortunately, I'm still lost on this whole terraforming thing. It seems that most I come across are also, hopefully, I can get some help here. Manual flattening, I get to some degree. But I have come across something the wiki doesn't cover. (that I noticed) I had one title corner level and began on the following side, however, what do I do when leveling one side makes the other sides of the same tile unlevel? An unlevel side means that crops can not be grown there until it's flat enough and auto flattening doesn't seem to do any good whatsoever. How should I handle tiles like that? My next question has to do with villages and how people run them. I know, that they are all going to be different but after the experiences I have had I thought I would find out if it's just the village I fell into or maybe just my playing style and theirs not meshing. They're not bad people, some of them are fairly nice and social when they want to be. I think that had our playing styles meshed better we could have even been friends in game - but I'm going to be realistic here and assume that there is a huge possibility that I am next on their Kos list just because I am one who has an opinion that doesn't match theirs. A village is an option that I took at the beginning but as I went along I began to see that the way the "elders or heads" of my village and I choose to play the game just too differently. I tend to be of the mindset that if you invite new players into a village you should also be willing to help them out get on their feet to some degree not hording materials in locked staff only storage, forbidding house building because one player wants to hold all the writs. All skills should be able to be tried and practiced by all members of a village. Instead of just one person doing smithing or mining etc. This wasn't the case in the area I left. Is this kind of thing common for villages? I mean I understand that every village has monthly upkeep to cover. But really? One farmer, miner, smith etc? Not to mention banning access to mines, that aren't even on your own deed? I mean power trip aside, isn't it more beneficial to a village if all players are allowed access to things like ore to get more then just the beginners tools you spawn with and more people covering all areas of skills so that the entire village can have more goods coming in instead of just a small group? I'm definitely not saying that new players should have everything handed to them don't get me wrong, part of playing Wurm is doing the work to level up your skills yourself. You don't get up the ladder asking for everything on a platter but I was also never against working for what I needed either. Which also was not an option. For those that live in a village, how do you get the things you need? Cotton, food, seeds and how are things like ore handled? Is it a first come first serve mine or your own or a work for x amount etc?
  3. I'm new to the game and looking for a village or settlement to join. After asking in local chat, i was told this was a good place to start looking to find out whose willing to take in new players Please and thank you... lol
