  1. On another game where forums/game server was linked, an exploit on the forums allowed administrator access over the game server. Granted here it wouldn't be an issue to that degree, but the concept is the same. It'd be a possible exploit, a vulnerability, if you will.

In theory, its nice, in actuality, it sucks.

  2. Without reading anything before this besides the OP; The problem with Wurm is it's too open and free. And there's nothing wrong with that. The problem comes when people start to abuse the 'freedom' of being able to do 'anything'. Even in retrospect to recent events going about the forums, it's just the previous lack of 'loud' GM intervention that makes these situations very high profile and objectionable.

That being said, the issue here with not having "Pure PVE"... Deed it or loose it is REALLY the only way to enforce that. Honestly the only way to get around these 'bad' players is to simply move away. There's more than enough room somewhere else to settle, If you're the only one this is being done to in the area, maybe you should move. Sad as it seems, but you might just need to move. I've only had one dispute before, and it was over a mine. At the time, I used the then 'freedom enclosure rules' to essentially gain access to the mine. Over the course of about a month, we duked it out over the mine and came to an agreement, made up and went on about our lives. Problem is, the only rule that covers this type of thing now is the "Play Nice Or We Will Rip Your Heart Out (griefing)" And it varies from situation to situation. This is both good and bad.

Bottom line is, if you don't want to be bothered, deed it. You will never have a problem on a deed you own. Outside of it depends on your local community behavior, but the land that you paid for either with IG labor or RL money is yours to control. I can't say I'm a "deed it or loose it" guy, but it's the truth. If I want to I can deforest the area around you right up to your front door, internally knowing that it negatively impacts you and have it come off as nothing short of resource gathering. This is where GM intervention becomes debatable. Anything outside of those exact words is up for debate. Thats just how it is. I bet if more constricting rules (Much like the previous 'enclosure' rule) were to come out, we'd be complaining about those next and going about how deeders should be ultimate and what not.

  3. Myself being a (somewhat) active wiki account holder, I'm not sure how to feel about this. While I understand the point of the restructure, so to speak, is to really help put proper information and make sure everything runs smoothly, and pages link together in a logical manner, I can't help but think that this is... basically unnecessary. I only say this because of how the wiki has been running up until this point. I'm not against this, but I do feel the need for those "30 active users" to be given a pass to be a  'Wurmpedia Editor.'

Consider this. Not many people prior to this have edited the wiki, as stated before, out of 1K+ accounts. Out of those 30 active people, offer them a 'pre-production' slot and run a trial period to see exactly how the role will work in actuality. On paper it looks exactly the same as it's always been running, except with more top-down involvement from a structured staff, rather than it being a mishmash of people collaborating. Plus the application, which until i see I can't really speculate on.

TBH I have seen no "Wiki wars" going on in terms of information. I have had my own material corrected, or rather reworded to something easier to understand, and that's the idea I get of this. I can submit a new page on... Giant Trees, or something, and as more people experience it, they revise the initial material and work it to the facts, or as close to facts we can get without being thrown exact specs from the devs.

As far as acual information integrity, the only way to confirm things is to test them out. I'm sure things were tested at some point in time, and got updated and you know the rest. That typically only occurs on lowkey updates, and things probably get overlooked. In most cases, we're given a heads up about major mechanic changes, especially if they're 'main features' of the game.

  4. More advertising is the way to go. Putting this on steam only means that's yet another medium to go through. While having it up on the list as 'free to play' would help like how other MMORPGS are up there, I think conventional advertising would be better. I wouldn't mind getting it LISTED on steam, so long as it does not go through them besides it being on my steam games list.

  5. I like the idea, it kinda integrates delivery if you can get plenty of people on board, but it has holes to patch. Like, what happens if that person doesn't want to go farther than a couple tiles out, ant there is nobody to meet to hand it off to? Also, presents an issue for people delivery items of value, such as a high enchant sword, that can range up to 10s even. I think the person should get fully refunded if a contractor of XDS looses the merchandise, whoever can pay it. It's just a large risk with so many people involved, particularly long range deliveries. Now, if it was just one person who transports it, that would be fine and all, because you would know who to hold accountable.

  6. Here's what I think about it. Those who feel the need to delete/sell/trade/whatever their forum accounts because of the breaches, are either very oversensitive about security, or paranoid, or both.

I think it shouldn't matter if my forum account gets compromised, so long as game and forum accounts are separate as they are now. It's more an issue for staff, and those who have the power to actually cause damage on the forums if compromised.

Deleting forum accounts because of compromises is just not logical, but maybe those who do it have their reasons, one that I don't know of.
