    aww Im feeling quite embarrassed by all your lovely memories of my time hosting the Impalong. :wub: 


     


    I have received numerous messages for hints and tips on how to run a successful impalong. If only it was that easy to put into words the best things to help you all. Your host will only ever be as good as your community attending your event. Ive been lucky over the past years to be able to fool everyone enough to think Im sweet and kind and generous ;) obviously I couldnt keep that up for too long and stepped down to persue my evil persona. :ph34r:


     


    All I will ask of the person/group that carries on hosting the community event is to have fun yourself, make sure all your guests are cared for (tame them if you have too) and keep the tradition alive!

    Ive been watching the way things are moving on the fight to host the Impalong this year (wow, how many posts?) and been asked by a few to give my support for individuals in their bid to host, unfortunately I wont be doing that. I would prefer this is fought out among the applicants who should be able to prove themselves worthy by the best proposals and the backing of the games' community.


     


    However I do wish every success to the ones that hold it this year, youve got a tough job on. Taking care of the impers can be difficult, they have been known to be very temperamental at times. Keeping ahead of all the PM's you get the moment you log on can be overwhelming. But what outways all the hardships is the fantastic feeling of the community coming together, new friends and old supporting each other. Over 100 players in local at a single time is an amazing achievement and if you can stay ahead of them all, youve done good :)


     


    My only advice would be make sure your deed settings are right, that you only trust the best of players to have access to other players items and youre well on the way to make it a good year.

    Seeing as most of the nominees stayed longer than week 1 we will now have this award as "Overall - Lady of the Impalong" etc

    So I am pleased to announce the winners of the following awards....

    Overall Man of the Impalong goes to Raycg! Worked so hard to organise and help build the amazing Colossus Corner

    Overall Lady of the Impalong goes to me! yay.. no only joking :P goes to Nib, everyone loved how she opened those chests in DoND

    Overall Most helpful player of the Impalong goes to... 2 people who were amazingly helpful and never tired of being asked "can you grab my tools please" Alectrys and Aristia

    I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for so much this year, we fought the lag monster, we fought a rollback all at the worst times possible and we fought all those critters and zombies the GM's threw at us. We met up with old friends, we made some new ones too. We built the first ever Colossus Army and took on the task of the highest amount of tools ever needing imping at an Impalong. DoND was as much of a success as ever. Gumbo knows how much I appreciate how much he does for the Impalong but I also want to say thank you for supporting me too as a player and as a friend also. I could not possibly list all the people I want to thank individually as each and every one of you that either helped run it, donated to it and visited it helped make this the best ever Imaplong for me

    I know it was frustrating at times for people who were trying to PM me to either ask a question or just to say hi, one day within the time it took for the houses to render after logging in I had 16 PMs flashing waiting. I did try to get to all of you and if I didnt manage it I am truly sorry.

    Due to the fact that we had to postpone the contests I will be holding the Checkers Tournament again (with the winner receiving a newbie account with a full year premium already paid). I will start a new post when everything is ready and you will be able to sign up there. There are still many many items awaiting collection so if you could please arrange to collect them I would appreciate it, either give me a PM in game or on the forum and we can arrange someone to be here to retrieve them for you.

    So what next for Willow? well first I have to clean up after you all :P Then I will be taking a little vacation to another server to cause trouble, you all know me by now and how trouble seems to follow me around ;) To those who thought I was leaving the game, you were so far off the mark, Im here to stay.

    Good luck to whoever hosts next years impalong. I have seen the posts and would like to say here that I will not be supporting one over another, so please dont ask me to. I dont think it is fair and I believe the community should decide without any bias.

    Wow guys, yet again you all amaze me at how fantastic you all are. All pulling together, joking around and generally having a blast. If you have never been to an impalong then this is surely the greatest one to come down and experience. I was so proud of you all the moment that first Colossus went up, almost brought a tear to my eyes. The Community in this game is truly special and yes we have bugs, rollbacks etc to deal with and yes we will moan about it, but when it comes down to it, we all help each other pull through it all. I feel honoured to be a part of this.

    I do however have to announce that some of the contests we were planning on holding have had to be put on hold due to the lag issues. The decision was made with regret but we do think we need to be fair to those players that are suffering from this nasty disease. However on a brighter note, the kissing booth should be opening during the weekend! ;) (we are still looking for a bearded lady for the freak show booth)

    During your time at the impalong, may I ask that you start to consider nominees for the following categories

    As you all know, there is a superb, super shiny prize this year of '1 newbie account comes with a full year premium already added'. To win this prize we will be holding a tournament game of Checkers/Draughts. For anyone out there that is not aware of this game feel free to take a peek at this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_draughts

    So how do you enter I hear you say... well you post a reply in my forum post. All we need is your player name and what time zone you usually play so we can organise you all into sub groups and that you would like to enter the Checkers Tournament.

    Winner of each round will go forward into the next round of games, eventually leaving us with the best 2 checkers players fighting it out to win the amazing prize. We are in talks to get some of these games put out on a live stream so even if you do not want to enter or cannot make it down to Festival Cove this year you can still join in the fun.

    This may be slightly self indulgent but was thinking that as this will be my last Impalong would it be possible to get a party together during the 2 weeks to build an Impalong colossus in a garden where we plant signs around it with all the names of people who attended, would make a great memorial.

    If you're all up for it, and it happens fast, we could even have an entire army of Colossi before the 2 weeks are over ;) hint hint at Raycg

    I promise I won't be there.... last thing ya'll need is an old fart like me ruining things for ya. Besides, I'm not anywhere as near as skilled as many that will be there, there is little I could contribute anyways to be honest.

    Kyrmius, feel free to come on over and join in the fun events we will be holding too, its not just about the imping we want you to have a laugh, some fun and maybe win some wonderful prizes.

    As to who will be taking over the Impalong next year? Can we please at least get this years Impalong over with before we start worrying about all that. I have had so many PMs asking if I will let them do it/give my blessings to/ move out of my deed/decide who is taking it over.

    I want to make it clear to all now that I do not own the Impalong, I cannot give the Impalong to anyone in particular and no I will not be handing over my deed to the next Impalong holders. Festival Cove is also my home deed, I set it up totally with my own money, I have kept the upkeep going with my own money and that is the way it will stay. Anyone wanting to hold the Impalong is free to offer themselves out to the public as and when we actually get into 2013. The community owns the Impalong, the community have always worked together to make the event happen. Please dont be offended if I do not reply to any more messages regarding this matter of me consenting to someone else doing it, Im sure you can understand Im quite busy preparing for this years Impalong. Trying to make it an event that will be remembered cannot be halted by me having to take time out to reply to questions regarding something that will be happening in another 12 months time.

    So back to this years event...

    We are now in December, the milestone for me to start to run around like a lunatic, worrying that Im not well enough prepared, that no one will turn up and will I actually be able to use my own bed or have to sleep on the floor again (you know who you are, the one that took my bed last year) ;)

    Im now going to start and call in a few favours so stand back and prepare yourselves.

    10 x barrels

    boat load of peat, failing that boat load of logs - to keep those forges burning 24-7 for 2 weeks

    Well as I have said in game, I will be making a big announcement regarding this years Impalong... and here it is

    Sadly this will be my last Impalong held at Festival Cove - independence server. It is time to hang up my Impalong hat and move on to pastures new. So to celebrate this last one, what other way can I do it but to go out with a big bang!

    Over the next few weeks I will be dropping more hints on what to expect. Not only will there be the usual DoND and a chance to get some of your tools improved for free but there will be some amazing prizes handed out for contests.     Ohh someone snook in my replica Terracotta Army :)

    512 statues all perfectly lined up (they never drop where you want them to, grr!)

    I made this area to be hidden in a valley where players would stumble across it as it was not easily seen until you get right over the hillside edge. Most of the statues were hauled by hand as there was no access to trees locally at the time.

    This is exactly why I love this game and the amazing community we have here.

    I had so much fun tonight and knowing that the Magranon side took this exactly as we meant it to be makes it all the better. Fun times for all when sometimes this game can become so serious, with dramas more abundant than in the daily soap on TV.

    My daughter asked if she could come along with the Vynora party and who am I to deprive the youngsters who play, some of our little indulgences. So she took over Elm and had a great time too, she has asked that I post these pictures that she took while trying to avoid the walking time bomb of Evilynne (yup me risking life and limb there)

    Never thought I would be saying this but I am having a great time relaxing in P.O.O.P. The food is delicious, the faith gain is delicious and there are quite a number of delicious young wurm guys for me to drool over ;)

    Thanks go out to Gumbo for setting this up again and I will try and be a little less talkative (nah, tried for 15 mins and failed) apparantly Gumbo is used to a quiet local.  ;D

    Congrats on completing this project Cerber. I feel like I have been doing it along side you with your updates on progress. You have worked hard and stuck with it when it looked like it would take forever. You truly are one of Wurms craziest players, but that is why I consider you a great friend :)

    Now stop spending time on the forums and get back to mining! Cracks whip
