    Sad news, and I share the sentiments that so many colleagues have so aptly stated. Duce was the only guy I know of who tried breeding dragons back when Kyara had captured both the Black and White. He didn't succeed, but the screenshots were epic! I hope your wish came true, my oddball friend.
  2. PvP changes refined

    This is as it should be. What you are describing as a "raid" is actually a "siege". Attacking a capital city that has been fortified over the past 4 years should not be possible as a "fun afternoon jaunt." It should take a week of continual, grinding and boring effort. Raids are for small, undefended deeds. Sieges are a test of will between the attacking group and the crafting ability of the defenders. Wurm has always been a balance between crafters and warriors, and the dirtwall/longhouse is the ultimate protection the crafter can make. Nerfing longhouses so warriors can have a leisurely afternoon sacking of a major city is just wrong.

  4. I dragged a cart to the 2nd floor of a building, stopped dragging and embark the cart as commander. Then loaded a bed. The cart disappeared and none of the ground tiles (building's second floor) had a disembark option. I had to log out and log back in to drag the cart.

    Thanks for this! I've installed the MS fonts and will need to hunt down the font causing the problem. Just installing the package isn't enough to get things working.

    This already exists in the form of campfires. Can be used anywhere to do mediocre cooking and smithing.
  10. (unstable client on Linux, Oracle JRE) I lit a campfire in a cave. The stationary campfire model appeared in the cave and worked as intended (was heating a meal), but there were no animated flames. However, moved outside the cave and saw the animated flames of the fire on the hillside outside the cave, above the position where the campfire existed in the cave. Then the Caos server crashed
  11. Some Pvp Changes To Chaos

    Need to make sure that people have a way to be converted to new alliances or to join towns. The present code may not permit you to "friend" an enemy (I've never tried it, but should be easy to allow) or allow them to get close to a town to make the offer to join (tower guards will kill enemies near towns). I highlight that you include no "neutral" option. This is the way to deal with spy alts - new characters on this server had better pre-arrange a local guide!
  12. wurm doesn't work

    I am potentially having the same problem. Launching the wurmclient.jnlp (or the unstable one, or clicking the website link) gives this: -Javaws starts and the "Wurm Online" baby splash screen comes up. -The download of the jars appears in a window to the right. All the jars download and the window disappears. That's it. The splash screen stays up. The game login window doesn't appear (or even attempt to appear). Looking at the processes open, there are 2 java processes (92.1 MB used in one, 48.0 MB used in other) and 2 javaws processes (200 kb in one, 192 kb in other) that sit there doing nothing with wait flags lit up. No change in the memory, so these are zombie threads I have to kill from the process list. I'm running SuSE 12 with brand new ATI card. So if I have what Marty has, then it isn't a video issue or a Windows issue. The SuSE install is new, but I have run Wurm on it back early March (before I went overseas for a month and a half).
  13. Since the Epic code, I've been unable to drag anything in the client. I can't rotate using the mouse (click-drag on the screen to rotate); I can't put stuff in a cart (mouse doesn't pick up the item when I click-hold). Wurm is pretty much unplayable without the ability to drag and use the mouse to swing the viewport. No problems in any other programs/games, so seems to be Wurm-specific. Linux (SuSE 11.4) Gnome desktop Ran fine in this configuration for years (and earlier versions of SuSE). It is not a crash, so there is no crashlog to post.

    It wasn't funny at the time, but looking back at photos from before climbing was introduced does look pretty odd right now. Here is another good one of our Lord Mayor running from certain death in combat.
  15. Area spell costs

    Combat should be about fighters and their support crew. Magic should be part of the support crew and not the "main event" as it appears to be now. Realistically, area effect spells should only be able to be cast a couple of times per priest in combat - those spells should be saved for a "special moment" and let the fighters get back to fighting. My $0.05+GST ... Support crew: archers, casters, healers & repairers shouldn't be the main event in combat.
