  1. Could it be this person? Apparently has not logged into the forums for the past year. I would repair the boat for now in case you can eventually reach him.
  2. I never ever see Wurm or Wurm Unlimited when I am browsing through my main category, Open World Survival Craft, which seems to fit Wurm to a T? Might be a good time to give WO/WU a little push.

  4. This sounds like you are talking about Wurm Online, which means this ought to be moved to the WO tech help section. (You accidentally posted to Wurm Unlimited tech forum, I assume by mistake. WU is completely separate from WO, and you do not use the WO registration page at all) It's easy to get them confused -- here are the main differences between the two: Wurm Online is the original MMO. It is Free To Play up to level 20 in skills, to advance past that you need to buy a monthly subscription. It is played through either a steam launcher and steam account, or through registration on the official website and using the official standalone launcher. It can only be played on official servers, and mods are not allowed. It is the only version getting regular updates. Wurm Unlimited is a buy once, play free forever modifiable version of the game, it has NO official server only player run servers. You can play singleplayer, passworded co-op with family and friends, or play on one of the many player run open public servers, each of which may have its own rules, mods and maps. You can even make your very own server, using either a paid host or simply running off your own computer. Wurm Unlimited stopped being updated two years ago though it has a ton of content dating back to Wurm's original launch in 2003 until about 2019 when WU updates stopped forever. WU can only be played through steam and only after buying the game (pay once, play free forever after that.) There is no completely free way to play WU. if you really really REALLY want to use the name you registered with on the WO website registration page, but using the steam account you will need to leave that character completely alone for a few days, I think the name stops being reserved if no one logs in for 72 hours and it is never played at all? But if you DO log in with that name through the wurm launcher, you won't be able to use the name with the steam launcher unless the character goes something like 90 days of not being played if it never has had a premium subscription. Once it has had a premium subscription, either through the steam launcher or the original WO launche,r it can never be deleted. Whew that sounds confusing, i know!
  5. How to teach a cat to stay off the counters
  6. This cat and its three very photogenic golden retrievers are quite the group, The dogs love getting their photos taken, the cat not quite so much. some more videos of the same group, that one goldie really takes good care of its cat
  7. I had this issue a few years back, the disconnects in Wurm were driving me batshit crazy, couple times an hour. One day just for the heck of it I tried replacing the ethernet cable between my computer and the router and BOOM, no more disconnects at all. If you use wifi, I would highly suggest using or at least testing a wired ethernet cable connection instead as those as usually much more reliable than wifi which can be finicky. You can get super cheap ($3 or so) ethernet cables lots of places on the internet. I live in a very rural area gain now, and my internet can be frustratingly finicky. It can take hours to download anything and I have to keep resuming disconnected attempts. I actually miss Comcast now! So I do whatever I can to improve my situation, because blaming Code Club may release some stress but it probably will never fix your issue. The reason "fast paced shooty games" may give fewer headaches is they are usually not moving as much data as when you get a data heavy game like Wurm with zillions of items and calculations taking place every few seconds. Games without terraforming for instance have a HUGE advantage. That's the main reason very few other games even have terraforming. But if you are not able to resolve your connectivity issues, and are in an area with flaky internet (I am too), you can always go back to those. Just depends how badly you want to play Wurm. At least try the easy things first to see if they help. Getting the dev team to rewrite two decades of undocumented spaghetti code that was originally written by someone no longer there, is probably not going to happen. They have too many people coming and going on and off the team, projects being started and then dropped, promises being made and broken, guessing and second-guessing what Rolf did back in 2003 etc, that its unlikely that even if they COULD do something about it, they actually would be even able to.
  8. A lot of people have asked about the breeding timer, because it seems to do nothing, in this old thread BDew says it appears to be bugged/broken: I know BDew's own Otherlands server had a timer that reduced pregnancy timers from 5-11 days down to like 2-3 days but I think that was a custom mod he made and different from the server timer. I am not aware of anyone releasing a mod to the public to reduce pregnancy waits. Also the number # of mobs you set in the server settings never seems to match the exact number that spawn. I am not sure what is up with that either, other than people have remarked on it for some 5-6 years now, ever since the release of Wurm Unlimited. You might try asking Sklo or BDew about those two mysteries, as they have flummoxed WU players for years.
  9. Hi Rhianna, I have a bunch of wild horses near to me, I went out just now to test, and I was able to breed. I know you have been playing as long as me, and not a Wurm newbie. Just a few mentions in case any help. My personal experience, whenever I have had no option for Breed, it was because i forgot I was leading a second animal (sheep, foal) and did not notice I had its rope as well as the breeding horse rope. It usually confused me for quite a period till i figured it out. If horses were "not in the mood" (hungry, too recently bred, server has no open slots for breeding) you should still always get Breed option when right clicking, it just says they are not in mood. Because of the high number of spawns, I would suspect no slots open for pregnant animals except then you DO get an option to breed, it just says they are not in the mood... [15:54:16] The server has been up 2 days, 23 hours and 57 minutes. typing /uptime shows server has been up for almost 3 days, so new new mods installed.
  10. Restoring to 4 days earlier is a great solution. This suggests however it might be a windows update and Win10 gets pretty persistent about putting those right back in again. If it happens again, do another restore and also take a look here: https://tweaks.com/windows/67132/how-to-block-specific-driver-or-patch-updates-in-windows-10/ I would especially make sure windows is not overwriting your graphics driver with one it thinks is newer and thus "better", as Microsoft drivers tend to be great for DirectX games but not so great for OpenGL games. However it could also be some other program or computer setting that was changed in the past few days, and unrelated to Windows updates. Anyway, glad you are back to playing for now! Hope the crashes are gone for good. I forgot about our earlier chat on crashes, heh.
  11. I would definitely reboot right before verifying files in case there is something hanging open in memory and keeping you from reacquiring the correct file. Maybe also check for memory and hard drive errors if the problem continues continues with one specific file consistently failing to validate or reacquire. You might also need to use an administrative account or confirm you have user rights to change files in that file location. If you are running through Steam, check also this discussion: https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/1/1458455461495125387/
  12. If you have not rebooted the computer at some point, try that. Check for dust buildup and overheating issues. If this is a desktop computer, make sure graphics/ram etc is firmly seated inside the computer and nothing has slowly been vibrating loose, especially if you either moved the computer, accidentally jiggled it or have pets that like bumping around in your cables (I have a cat that causes me this issue). If it is a laptop, is it getting hot? There are some laptop coolers you can put under the laptop to help, or at least make sure it is not sitting on blankets etc if you play in bed. I would only do this if the laptop is clearly getting hot while playing. Check Control Panel > Program files to see if there have been any recent updates that could be causing issues, especially with drivers/windows/java. If it was a recent software update (java or windows or wurm), there will probably be scores of people suddenly showing up with the same issue, but check anyways. You could try rolling back any changes from the past 24-48 hours. You might need to do a little extra if windows keeps reinstalling a troublesome update. (Ask, if this seems to be the case).
  13. Do you have the Tower Guard Fix mod? WO devs a few years ago "accidentally" put in a requirement for 20 fight skill i order to repair tower guards. It was a bit of old PVP code that slipped into the PVE code. WO players had a fit, they apologized, said it was unintended and instantly fixed it in WO -- then added it "accidentally" to WU code. They have said for like 2-3 years now they are also going to fix it in WU code but of course they never have. Luckily Coldie made a mod to fix it here: Original discussion where devs promised us back in 2019 it was "already fixed" in WU -- they just never added the fix: It's especially important on a "hard" server with high hostile mob counts where players may need to have guard towers up in early game, like this server. I know some people LOVE grinding fight skill on a dummy before they do anything else in game, but a bunch of us do not, and/or may not have access to an iron mine early on for things like extra nails etc. Obviously if you cannot repair a guard tower, you also cannot imp it to 20 or 30 or anything useful. It's also not a mod to make anything "easier," just to correct the fact that WO devs got really sloppy and let mistakes/bugs slide into the WU code then dragged their feet to get them out, and now clearly never will fix it.
  14. Two possible issues: 1) Somehow it has a stray " in the pathname: java.nio.file.InvalidPathException: Illegal char <"> at index 0: "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_281\bin"\windows/x86/org/lwjgl/lwjgl.dll I am not actually sure how that would have happened unless maybe you fiddled with the java home path on your computer, or are maybe using a batch file to launch the game. 2) Also that is a path for 32-bit java (x86) which does have issues with Wurm sometimes. Do you have 32 or 64 bit OSs? If you have 64 bit OS, then I suggest you do the following: * Go to Control panel > Programs and uninstall ALL java currently installed. If you have 32+64 versions it tends to use the 32 bit, so get rid of them all to be safe. * Do not reinstall java using your browser which is likely a 32 bit browser. Instead download to your hard drive this 64-bit manual install of Java: https://javadl.oracle.com/webapps/download/AutoDL?BundleId=244068_89d678f2be164786b292527658ca1605 (you can get the same link by googling "manual install 64 bit java" if you have concerns about the link) I am not sure if that will also fix the complaint about the illegal character in the java path, maybe it will. Otherwise you might need to find where you introduced a typo into the path. If you have only a 32 bit operating system then ignore that, as you cannot use a 64 bit Java then. Maybe someone else will have ideas on how to correct the extra character in the line above. If you are back after a long absence, be sure also to install the NEW launcher at https://www.wurmonline.com/wurm-online-downloads/ Go for the 64 bit executable if you have a 64 bit OS WurmSetup64.exe https://client.wurmonline.com/client/WurmSetup64.exe not the JLNP versions which are sometimes a little funky with the new launcher versions. If you do that maybe uninstall first any old versions of Wurm in hopes of correcting the illegal character in the path. If you want to keep old logs/screesnhots etc, back those up first OR maybe just rename your old wurm folders to WurmBROKEN and then use control panel to uninstall and download and install the new WurmSetup64.exe version.
  15. There are a number of free player made maps which I find much nicer than the default WU maps, and a youtube video giving a walkthrough on how to install those. Server linking is possible for sailing from map to map, its a little more complicated possibly if you are very new to running a server. Custom maps though are easy to run even for a solo player. There are some pretty chill public servers on WU without the toxicity of some of the WO servers, due to the "competitive" tone being greatly reduced. Usually more land, easy to set up a hermit deed far from others if you choose, not as much trolling/spamming/aggression in the global chats, so perfect for those who want a little more friendly laidback tone without some of the side effects of more highly populated and competitive WO servers, where aggression levels seem to me much higher.
  16. Nice server, good people. There is a small easy-ish server (Tranquil Gardens), a large much harder server (Cragmoor), and for those who love a challenge, a really crazy fierce small server Wilds. They are all PVE and you can travel between the three, either by boats or portals in the starter areas. Despite the conversation above, there *IS* a minimum 1s upkeep on all deeds, but you do get a free start on the first 31x31 deed and some guards with 3 months upkeep paid in advance, so no early pressure getting a deed up. No monthly cost with those starter guards, which will come in handy with some of the nasties out there: [14:21:24] <@XXXXX> [12:07:32] XXXXX slain by old alert Huge spider, venerable Huge spider, mature Hell Hound, mature Hell Hound, venerable Troll, aged lurking Huge spider, adolescent hardened Panda bear, old Huge spider, old Hell Hound, aged Deathcrawler minion, old Ocelot, adolescent Huge spider, adolescent Huge spider, adolescent Huge spider, mature lurking Ocelot, mature Forest spider, venerable Forest spider, old Ocelot, aged Panda bear, aged sly Mountain lion, venerable angry Ocelot, venerable alert Troll, adolescent Troll, aged hardened Hell Hound, aged Ocelot, aged alert Ocelot, old Huge spider, aged Forest spider, venerable champion Ocelot, venerable Huge spider, venerable Ocelot, aged Huge spider, aged greenish Forest spider, aged Forest spider, venerable Forest spider, old Hell Hound, old scared Huge spider, aged Hell Hound, aged Ocelot, aged angry Forest spider, aged alert Ocelot, venerable Panda bear, aged Huge spider, old sly Forest spider, old alert Forest spider, aged Troll, venerable Huge spider, aged Ocelot, aged greenish Forest spider, old greenish Huge spider, mature greenish Huge spider, adolescent Huge spider, venerable lurking Huge spider, aged fierce Panda bear, old fierce Brown bear, aged Ocelot, venerable Forest spider Name redacted out of respect for the dead 😛 Running of course shows fear which they can smell .... That was on "crazy fierce" Wilds server, prompting a lot of people to start on the easier server to skill up then progressively move on to harder servers as they get better skilled & geared. Making an early rowboat is very handy for safe travel. The harder servers have a lot of valei/epic plus custom "hard" mobs to make sure warriors never get too cocky. If you are very very careful, the medium server is not too hard to navigate while you still have newbie buffs, until you can find and establish a deed. Middle and hard servers give you up to 5 free guards, easy server I think gets three but (aside from occasional uniques) does not have the more difficult epic-level mobs, like the deathcrawler minions that seem perfectly capable of outrunning a horse and apparently no respect for newbie buffs... Skilling is fairly fast and easy once you get a foot in, but danger is always out there .... Interesting mods including some sort of dye color mod. The mods do not seem to add to "easy" status (no skilling your priest to 100 on the first day etc) and with all the wild things out there, I would not call it an easy server despite the faster skillgains -- you are going to need those! I have found money a little challenging to acquire however a few mods are slowly getting added in, and with my first deed subsidized for the first three months, there is no real need for cash at first. Also if you remember to vote every day you get 25c a day will be just fine for cash on a month to month basis. My starter deed of 31x31 with five guards is only 1s a month after the first three months, which is much cheaper than default costs. i have a nasty looking Spawn of Uttacha sniffing around my Cragmoor deed perimeter and not sure yet how the guards will do with it, but overall it is not too bad for non-combat oriented players who know how to be careful. If you are combat oriented, this is probably heaven for you ... and again there is also the much easier tranquil Gardens for those who prefer a minimum of danger.
  17. True although those links are for WO and this is the tech section for WU. If Steam installed it on a 32-bit OS I would assume WU still has a 32-bit option, although the 32-bit does not run as well. Try uninstalling any mods and reboot and see if it still crashes, when was the last time Wurm Unlimited ran ok for you?
  18. They cannot use 64 bit java on a 32 bit OS. Did WU work on this computer until recently? If you have any mods running disable them for now to see if it is a mod conflict. Try also rebooting the computer if you have not done so already, in case something is borked in memory.
  19. Bump for a really nice looking BIG map! PS, zooming in I can see plenty of clay It's just such a huge map they won;t jump out at you when you are zoomed out ...
  20. Permission system was one I completely forgot about, and another major move forward for Wurm! Many great additions over the past 10+ years. "Server expansions" is another that people might disgree on, but that I myself happily welcomed. When I started on Indy in 2011 (another of the "free players" at first), Indy was packed and people were actually apprehensive to see new players, even just walking through their neighborhood, because land was so scarce that even a long walk from spawn, any open area would start to fill with newbie shacks and newbie fences popping up in perimeters. I ended up deeding on marshland (which is a royal pain) because it was the only waterfront I could find after days of exploration, and I wanted a boat! Especially if I could sail server to server! Meantime some argued anyone new should just join an existing deed as a villager and not expect to actually have a deed of their own. Boats probably too. All of the various ones existed when I started but i imagine there was some major excitement when boats first went live.
  21. Edit: sorry I just realized you and I discussed tree spread already, did not mean to repeat it If you really really really hate trees, you can load up a map and rerun a new biomes map through the wurm map generator, and make trees very sparse and very thinly spread out on your map. If the area you wanted cleared out is not huge and doesn't affect the while map, and it is your own server, you can make a GM character that can turn large areas into empty grasslands instead of forest with a few clicks of an ebony wand. Be aware that if you had a mod that made ALL shriveled trees not replant, in a relatively short time your server could end up zero trees, which would probably be the main issue with a mod.
