you're tracked whatever you do anyway..

what you can prevent is the juicy bits like where you click on screen and such, based on user interaction, anything you download - leaves a trace anyway, any website/service you use - leaves a mark when and what you did there, etc

you're only limiting the gravy topping : /

Oh i know but its to limit the amount of tracking for example the browser we both use for work creates new user agent for every page you visit and all kinds of other things that just help prevent activity from being tracked, add in an ip that does not point to the physical location of our home and all kinds of other bits makes you become a lot harder to be found out.

A lot can be done to make it so that they can't create a profile of your device and your habits and as such the data you provide them while you use their services becomes useless in using it to find out if its you or not.
But that is a topic for something else and not this post really

Okay but what was the solution?

I was sure i had that added but let me post it here then again

Somewhere along the way the port 3724(that wurm uses among a few other programs) was not being routed properly anymore to my pc from my router even though it should be, undoing the configuration for that port and redoing it again seems to have fixed the issue.

It was more so a networking issue that popped up out of the blue and wurm was the only one affected by it(the other software using the port wasn't) but giving it the good old "turning it off and on" on a single config setting on my router fixed it.
Aka magical router space wizard crap that should not work made it work.

So thankfully it was not related to GA being blocked so that can remain being blocked for good.

@ArmyIt's been over a month since these questions were posted and up to now we haven't seen a reply from you.

Care to inform us and finally post some answers here?

Because that's your job and so far other as your first post as well as some minor posts, we as community haven't seen much or anything at all lately.

I'm aware you don't have the easiest job, but playing deaf, blind and dumb with the community you need to inform and represent isn't doing you any good.

Retro and Demona has had their loads of manure thrown at them as well, but right now I can only conclude they did a far better job as you did. Which isn't a good thing at all.

    Thorin

Given that both ig and tiktok went from multiple posts a week to once a week to now nothing for 2 weeks(might seem silly to complain but if you wanna grow you gotta stay active) my guess is all this stuff will just fall dead and silent and only receive some necromancy to attempt to revive it in like half a year when its asked from higher up "so how are our socials doing" or something like that.

Instead of them going down the route of asking all current content creators to create shorts and have the main guy in charge of ig and tiktok introduce them and then them show off content(which would be a lot easier then just one guy) they are gonna do low quality low effort sporadic posting which will make either platform not promote those pages at all and subsequently will only be hidden away.

Atleast on yt even older shorts from a few months ago have a chance of showing up if the content you are watching aligns with it but you know they aren't going to do what's actually needed to grow wurm's presence on social media they are just going to do the bare minimum to please us and higher ups(kinda starting to sound like an abusive relationship almost) and hope that that will be fine.

you can dump the urls in hosts file (win c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts; nix /etc/hosts):

and call it a day.. but they probably have a few loopholes to that and use few other urls/ips/etc.. not talking about balancers and localized ips.. it's likely not just the 1-2 urls

you always have connection to yourself(your pc's local host/127.0.0.1 IPv4)

    --edit

    as to router or w/e dns you run.. force urls to point to local ip or your home real ip.. and call it a day.. same thing.. it will run same checks but send nothing to google.. unless there's failsafe, dns for IPv6, etc... and still reroute or directly do it's normal work;

it's another thing if ccab uses this information in any way and it's required to leave it untouched and feeding information, some clarity will be good to be shared

Basically what we are doing already, we have a dns server running locally that has a huge list of blocked domains that we curate from other lists and our own things either fully blocked(like GA is) or specific type of traffic block or allowed for certain devices only and are setup because we honestly are just sick and tired of the quantity of traffic that is send out to tracking services vs actual traffic and tired of being tracked where ever we go.

The issue stems from the fact that wurm now apparently will not work unless GA can be reached based on these logs anyway which to me makes me wonder why?

Also incase anyone is wondering why we have this in place both my dads job and mine require us to handle a lot of sensitive data of our respective companies that a simple "oh just only do it on a work computer with a vpn" does not cut it and our dns block is but 1 part of the total setup and a requirement from his company so I can't just go "oh ya lets just allow my pc to still access all of that" as a "solution"

Can't share an account with more then 2 people max not that this seems to be enforced that strictly given the amount of people that still go way beyond the 2 extra people cap

isn't this everyday kind of stuff on chaos.. you see a random place and raid it if there's nobody to defend it, especially with no activity.. it's open season..

Except the fact his house was on an active kingdom's capital and very few actually had permission to enter the place in the first case or access to the account while the owner was on their break.

So it isn't a case of someone random from a different kingdom or freedom breaking in and entering some one persons hut in the middle of a forest but a inside job.

  7. Sorry for the double post but I wanted to keep this separate

For Wurm TV can we please also start using youtube shorts for the same video's that get uploaded to IG and tiktok?

Tiktok I can kinda understand but IG is not really used for gaming related stuff like that and people typically follow gaming brands for merch and events and so on and follow the same companies yt for actual game related stuff so the fact that youtube has been left out of all of this is just bad and shows a clear lack of understanding of the culture of gamers as a whole.

So please do expand to youtube as well so that you can reach a broader audience and hopefully draw in more people from there and do it on a official yt channel for wurm not some personal channel of someone.

But we can make arched walls: using bridges. Look at the before and after:

Check the blurry mess to the left of it as well and yes with bridges we can mimic it but not properly which again people will nitpick about and be vocal about.

The weapon isn't on his back, that's a leather strap that happens to sit at the same angle:

The landscape isn't any more "vague" than in the original Wurm shot. And there is nothing stopping players from technically having a fight like that eh?

    https://www.andrea.net/wurm/screenshots/ai_enhanced/33.html

On the website itself you can not tell if it is a strap or on its back and a person is not going to bother doing a 10x zoom thing to try and figure out if its a strap or not and they will assume that he is carrying that axe on his back.
When including the fortifications it most def is way more vague and painted like then it would be and also way higher detailed ground
As for that combat? No pvp combat will ever be like that in wurm due to how wurm pvp functions half those people would be dead within seconds the other half yelled at for being off god knows where doing god knows what but thats really besides the point, the picture as a whole portrays something that just wont happen in the game.

The lighting is pretty much exactly the same in the original screenshots, so not sure what you mean:

    https://www.andrea.net/wurm/screenshots/ai_enhanced/44.html

    https://www.andrea.net/wurm/screenshots/ai_enhanced/16.html

You are telling me you can not see the obviously more yellow sun lighting the overall better lighting that the ai applies and the better shadows it comes up with?
The better reflections of light hitting polished wood, the sharp reflections in the water all things that currently are not a thing either some are in the works or are just not going to happen at all.

From a gameplay perspective, mines do fill up with piles of rocks and ore eh?

And if if you wanted to achieve a similar atmosphere in Wurm, you could do that in Wurm Unlimited by spawning in boulders. That's what I did for the original shot.

    https://www.andrea.net/wurm/screenshots/ai_enhanced/21.html

The mines fill up with a neatly stacked pile of shards not stacks of stone that can obstruct a players movement as the picture implies, and yes that is the thing to get the desired effect one would have to use WU a unsupported version of the game and not what the wurm ONLINE website is about

We've got plenty of items in game that are much more detailed, so technically it's completely feasible. Has it been done in this particular case of the foods? No - but that doesn't mean the foods couldn't be improved further down the line. The point is, that as it currently stands, highly detailed stuff CAN be technically implemented in the game.

For instance the dragon skin for the staff is mega detailed:

    September_skin.png

Your words exactly they CAN be implemented but they aren't and even the dragon skin for the staff is no where near as detailed as just the grapes are on their own, to you these things clearly don't seem to matter as you are fine with showing fake stuff but to many players wurm's graphics being upped from a clearly ancient state to a mixture of last and current gen via ai enhancements would be seen as faking it.

And that brings me back to the point of we are trying to attract new players to the game so showing them fake images that are not representative of the games actual quality will make players leave, you might say "oh why would they" well simple a LOT of people dont want to play the game because it looks too old and shitty they might like the style of gameplay but the graphics put them off.

And in a time of baldur's gate 3 and starfield(hate on the game but its strong suits are strong) and cyberpunk's latest dlc and plenty of beautiful looking indi games being made by 1-2 man teams all of these games stick to what they actually look like for their ingame footage trailers and screenshots on every store front(the website is one) where as the games that are using ai generated content get laughed at and people refuse to support those projects.

I want the game to grow for years the biggest holdback to this games growth is half assed decisions across the board from current and ex staff volunteer and paid alike missed opportunities and thrown away chances and this "redesign" of the website was once again just yet another such missed opportunity this time by the owners before once again the content that gets used being ai focused as if there is a boner for ai when it comes to this site.

I love your originals though and I really do wish that they were used instead if gcg has such a big issue with wurm's old graphics being an issue and thus wanting to use ai to hide that fact then maybe they should invest money into a actual developer for the website and not some random who uses chatgpt to create and update its sites while over charging and content that gets added by staff/community should not be ai generated or "enhanced" as the defects in a lot of those places or the fakeness of it all is glaring and will push people away.

It doesn't matter of can be's or would have been possible scenario's a game should show of what it currently has to offer to players not fake information as that is just a let down but sadly that is a reoccurring theme with this whole website and ai enhanced screenshots just dont belong there.

But hey they will most likely stay for months then some dev gets told "post these pictures on the steam store front they look great and way better then our old ones" and suddenly the listing gets taken down and then suddenly there is a push from above to be real and not fake so I guess I will just wait until that happens.

  9. Id say no to the idea of maintaining skills and being locked out of gaining more as prem is lost  especially at a time where gcg is having the shenanigans it has but even outside of that no the premium model is there to prevent dlc gating content or a giant microtransaction hellscape

As for the topic that people keep bringing up of "oh go sell some rares" or "go mass create items" Yes encourage players with 20 skills and most likely shitty gear still to spend literal HOURS to slave away to collect the wood and turn it into planks or mine for bricks so that they can get the 10s IF there is even one buying, or try your luck at spamming rares for forever on end because 3-4 rares in 6 hours of properly timed actions is engaging gameplay that is worth it for premium right.

Once upon a time when wurm had a bigger influx of newer players and people redoing deeds and moving around it made sense the bulk jobs were plentyful like digging dirt for a deed project of someone or helping someone clear out a place or whatever but all of that has dried up and even kingdoms arent really doing it when they can ###### out bricks faster then they can sail to collect them.

I wish there was a good way for people with less income to enjoy wurm in a better way but with how the game economy is going and people's overall confidence any suggestion to make it easier on those who struggle to pay wont ever make it past the suggestion forum section sadly enough

You still can make a big cavern, can't you? MIne out the bit near the ceiling first and then mine the floor down.

It will tell you that you reach a max height and cant mine any more down sadly

    2 minutes ago, Lisimba said:

I think you can also reach higher from the top of a building, haven't actually tried that though. But if you can, you can build scaffolding towers.

9 floors max but max building height is 16 so we are missing quite a few floors on that as well

I've strongwalled quite a bit and I've never seen it collapse more than one tile. What do you mean?

I am currently mining out the mountain i live on while mining from 2 dirt above water and every old mine i mine into i have multiple tiles go down to a max of 400-440ish slope before the next one drops forcing my priest to goatshape to climb up high enough to get to the still flat tiles to collapse them before doing the 2-3 tiles that are really steep that formed after mining to those raised area's
The height difference im talking about
    7Kj4PvR.png
This no longer creates 1 giant tile it seems atleast it hasnt for the last 3 days of me mining and fixing these old mines that are higher up

About this and the arguments from others regarding the AI images on the website: we understand your concerns.

It's not our intention to trick new players with it. Right now there are actual gameplay videos featured on the website. Also we are currently working on implementing actual ingame screenshots and text improvements. Please stay tuned!

Then please do remove the ai images from the website as they are tricking new players into a false sense of features that don't exist like arched walls that are that big with walls that lok that big of a blurry mess
    Wurm-Online-Get-Started.jpg

Or battles with this many players in a vague landscape with weapons equipped on their back
    Player-vs-Player-Wurm-Online.jpg

    Or lighting this good(yet)
    Wurm-Online-Deep-Game-Machanics.jpgUnleash-your-Creativity-in-Wurm-Online.j

Or mine systems that look this filled up with rubble from active mining(I wish)
    Wurm-Mining.jpg

Or far away terrain that looks beautiful(Again I wish)
    Wurm-woodcutting.jpg

Or ingame items that have this kind of detail to them

    Wurm-Cooking.10881549.jpg

I could go on but you get my point by now these are a few examples that ARE misleading to new players as if i see a table full of items like that in a game it sets the expectation that the graphical quality of the game is on par with that and that can make or break someone joining so i join and play only to be met with graphics dating back to the early 2010's on a lot of its models.

As for the point of "oh its a website they should be able to" no stop that you let this happen in 1 place and it will spread everywhere else sooner or later to the steam page to try and attract more players then to other places and will just lead to bad press.
Ai enhanced art is nice for rapid concepting but not for this please just be truthful to the players the new site is horrible as it is but sadly it is here to stay so atleast make the content on it be truthful just like you had to with the text

As for how long it should take? Have you seen the difference between the changes being done and the last time it was worked on it? They could have taken 2 weeks to take pictures and 10 minutes to upload them to the webhost to replace the existing pictures and in between given the community a 1 week window of "hey is this okay guys?" and it would have been 3 weeks instead of 79 days since kristers last post about it so don't start about "oh how much time should we give it" its a website's image swap not a rework of the combat system.

  12. Once upon a time before multi story buildings we could use 2 tunnels(1 from really low 1 from really high) to create a really high ceiling in mines allowing for giant caverns that looked amazing and would lead to some really amazing places to discover underground(deliverance ne tunnel system maze or nadroj's deed as 2 examples)

Sadly with the addition of multi story buildings the height was limited out of what appeared to be laziness on a developers part in an attempt to "fix" a bug but it has resulted in caves becoming more lack luster and no longer being able to go make tall roofs and as a result a few projects got stuck in limbo or having to resort to bugs or lots and lots of strongwalling(later on changes as well as to now cause multiple tiles to fall down) to prevent tall ceilings.

Maybe some time in the future some development time can be put in to actually fix the bug with multi story houses and just put a restriction on their height in caves(if that is whats wanted) and allow us to create giant caverns again please.

Lots of people here have a problem with using footage or material that doesn't 100% represent the game.

For me personally, I've never had a problem with game companies promoting their games with beautiful cinematic trailers and concept images. AS LONG AS there were actual true screenshots/videos available as well. Currently we have the trailer that does that. Hopefully a screenshot gallery in the future.

For instance, when Blizzard first released it's WoW trailer, I fully understood that this is not what the game is going to look like and was fine with it. That this is a fantasy - a dream.

Upon installing WoW for the first time and entering the game, I didn't have an overwhelming sense of disappointment that it didn't look the same. Instead when I embarked on my journey with my low poly character, I could imagine being in that world I saw in the trailer and it enhanced the imagination and immersion I had in my experience.

    (Snip video to save space)

The thing is they clearly state "cinematic trailer" and thats the key here if they said "ingame footage" and it wasn't then people would have an issue with it that is the thing i tried to point out before as well.

Right now the website is displaying pictures that could be interpreted as ingame footage for example the picture below
    Wurm-woodcutting.jpg

When we have games that look better then this it isn't hard to assume that this is how the terrain looks and then you jump ingame and you wonder where that quality is where that sharpness of detail is, maybe you missed a setting or something else who knows.

There needs to be a clear sign stating that the pictures are ai enhanced and not ingame footage or else the website is promising a lie which well games have been sued for less and I do mean it plenty of games that promised these amazing looks but come out with potato quality find themselves being sued sooner or later(often times sooner)

And what is really wrong with being truthful with the pictures? Like are the staff and owners so ashamed of how the game looks that they have to resort to cheap ai "enhancements" to make the game look better then it really is in hopes to get people to buy that first few silver before they quit? Is that really the kind of image that wurm needs to have?

Your original pictures all look better sure their overall quality of the models is lower but it does not lie it shows enough about the game and its art to be drawn in.

The following isnt aimed at you but at the owners who will never read this anyway

First we get a fully ai generated website then we get a rewritten one with the lies stripped out while keeping the rest of the ai crap and now its still ai "enhanced" pictures like why is it so hard to be truthful about the looks of the game and the feeling of it all? If you want to give wurm a facelift then get the devs to work on it give them the funding and time to port to a new engine away from java and it will do wonders already to improve quality at that point when you add in a redesign of the models to account for the better performance.

    That's the website's image:

here''s the one from the steam page:

    ss_6f5fd203d00eb1f16e1deb140d533a864f799

And yes, the steam image looks a lot better.

It does look a lot better but it is the only one of all the ai "enhanced" ones that looks atleast half decent and doesnt have blatant issues in it like most others do (like the forges for example) but I still don't like any of them honestly

  15. I was looking through the photos some more and well lets just say that the center forge has some really big issues that need addressing as does the anvil in front of said forge

    Wurm-Blacksmithing.jpg

Like that picture would have been perfectly fine without having been thrown through an ai "enhancer" especially with the upcoming lighting changes that have been teased.

Speaking of which why not give who ever is in charge of taking these photos that client and let them recreate these scene's and i bet that it will look a lot better then the stuff we have now.

Using concept art stylized artwork to promote a game is commonplace and most players understand that. That said, at the same time I feel it's urgent to get a "real screenshot" gallery up on the website ASAP so that the website will not be deceptive. I know the team want to see that as well, so I really hope something like that is being worked on.

There is using concept art for a unreleased game to promote a game for example stylized shots that take ingame art assets and crank it to 11 and then there is lazy ai remakes that show defects and are off putting.

There is a reason why promotional material for games is created by artists still and not ai because things like this image below just say "hey look its ai generated and not even a close representation of the game"
    Wurm-Mining.jpgWurm-Online-Get-Started.jpg

Typically when a game is releasing a trailer that does not use ingame footage they state that clearly in their video or if it is ingame footage they do so as well, promotional pictures might receive a bit of editing afterwards to make it shine more like what happened in the picture below to make it stand out a bit more.
    Wurm-Online-Deep-Game-Machanics.jpg

But a lot of the pictures shown just look like they have been thrown through a random ai enhancer and gone "okay this is fine" even when its complete and utter garbage.

There is a rising trend of ai art being used to promote games that are actually scams because of the ease of creation of pictures for said games and along with it comes a rise in distrust when people notice ai edited/generated content and its leaving a sour taste in people's mouths.

Had all those pictures been their original wurm versions with maybe some extra effects added to bring out lighting a bit more that would have been fine(think shader packs for games) but even then you get people to complain about it for example killzone 2's ps3 trailer or watchdogs are two that come to mind but there are many more cases like that.

I get the need to try and make the game look prettier then what it really is but jumping into the realm of ai to achieve this just screams cheap and lack of love for the project that is being worked on and makes it scream "hey this is a scam" when it actually isn't.

You can thank all the pump and dump scam games that are being created left and right for this.
Heck marvel's secret invasion's intro is a prime example of how to piss off your fanbase with the use of ai, they took concept art for a actual intro and fed it into a ai to save on cost and the creepy bad thing that came out was used and it put so many people off that the show itself never really got the viewer count it could have had.

You want to promote a game? Show off what it really has don't hide behind ai don't hide behind prerendered video's that show things that don't exist in the game(like our steam trailer does) unless you make it clear its not ingame footage and for the love of god please stop using ai yes I'm saying it again it needs to be said a billion times honestly.

AI art is not in a spot where it can or should be used for any kind of serious content creation yet for concepting and such things sure but promotional material? No not really and this is coming from someone who is currently for work reasons dealing with ai generation to quickly create code and art assets for prototyping before we throw dev's/artists at it.
From the last year of work that me and my team have done at it we have had to tell people higher up who do not know what they are talking about when they go "oh we should replace these teams with ai as i heard it can do the same thing but faster" that no matter how hard you try there currently is no substitute for a person yet in either development or artistic area's on a professional level, hobbyist level? sure, prototyping? Absolutely it can save a lot of time but customer facing proof of concept that is meant to bring in sales? Absolutely not.

  17. The cooking stuff I agree with Arroncus on there are a lot of recipes that just are not used overall because they serve no real purpose besides being filler to a system that is unnecessary complex without giving much joy to it is just a chore at times to restock and the thing is why even bother when you can go buy 200kg of ql 95+ pizzas and itl last you for a year+
Adding more recipes and ingredients won't do much to it.

New players will die quickly in pvp yes 2-3 huge axe hits to the head and they drop dead, well build accounts 5-6 hits to the head and they are dead there isn't much difference there really just the rate of how fast these hits land on you.

A potion isn't going to help people who avoid combat suddenly enjoy combat when that 10% healing can be achieved with life transfer and a huge axe already, you want new players to have a easier time to heal yet the way you go around suggesting it would benefit long term players more then day 1 newbies or week 1 for that matter.

Players just have to learn what monsters they can and cant attack and that means sometimes dying which is not as bad as it is made out to be really.

  18. I wonder how the resource nodes and other things will work with the "remove tile decorations" feature it would make for a interesting effect if they do all show up still(imagine no grass yet flowers)

I do like the new update next stop a action wheel instead of right click window pretty please??

As for the arrow bundles if they release in the state that they are in based on ausimus's description then its a unnecessary extra step that will not encourage anyone to actively use it for big quantities of arrows and thus be pointless, i can understand the increased cost of the log but the rest no.

Overall I rate what i see here as an 8/10 worthy dev update good job ❤️
