  3. Shield training

    This is the complete opposite to what I've been experiencing. It seems for me skilling in defensive with a <20ql shield gives the best gains I've seen since this update, but only off of trolls that I purposely take my time killing, sometimes targetting something else and letting the troll go to town on my shield while I don't hit back at all. And even then the gains aren't that terrific. Taking into consideration that it's just from trolls I don't think its really reasonable.

MR did that with information minister that was logged in constantly with its even being watched by a bot waiting for any enemy to go near a tower, at which point you'd karma everyone in using the karma loophole. Any argument you try to use against hota here implying small groups deserve a chance I could just repeat MR's argument for why information minister was good. Obviously information minister and hota are completely different though, HoTA's supposed to be a sort of battle arena where people are forced to clash through game mechanics that make it too hard to just do the hota and gtfo. The only reason people have to sneak around now is because they want the rewards of hota but most kingdoms know they can't get a big enough group together to attend in full force. HoTA seems like it was designed for a pvp server with atleast 10-20 people attending from multiple kingdoms, not 1 daring guy who's always trying to ninja cap and run from a group of 10-20 enemies.
  5. I'll admit, Gau got away by the skin of their teeth. I figured it's a good idea regardless of that though, we have the same system for tower capping for similar reasons to encourage encounters.
  6. As title suggest, can we get a server message when a pillar is starting to be conquered aswell as the current conquering message on completion? Something like, "The sky pillar is being neutralized!" "XXX neutralizes the Sky pillar of the hunt." & "The sky pillar is being conquered!" "XXX conquers the Sky pillar of the hunt." Perhaps make it occur 10 seconds into the conquering.
  7. Bump. I made a campfire today to make lye for leather, only to fail making the lye and lose the ash after wating 20+ minutes for the fire to burn out. Had to wait another 20 or so minutes for the second fire to burn out so I could try again, which luckily succeeded. In hindsight I should have made more than one fire at a time, but I didn't want to waste kindling. But this could all have been avoided if I had the ability to just clear the ash sitting in my forge out and use that. Please.

Instead of 'Only a few weeks mining remain here' it'll just say something like "You estimate there are somewhere between 5000 and 10000 mining actions left until it is depleted. QL Current message: [15:37:54] You would mine iron ore here. [15:37:54] It is of acceptable quality. Which means between 30-39 QL. Instead of just saying 'acceptable quality' it would say exactly what it means. [15:37:54] You would mine iron ore here. [15:37:54] It is of acceptable quality, estimated between 30-39. Or something like that.

  11. As much as some hate the snow, some aspects of it are pretty. Shame it's not higher res.
  12. Make corpses have either a 1-2 minute cooldown where they can't be looted until the timer is up. Something like "You cannot loot the corpse of Aged hell horse/PlayerXYZ for another 1 minute and 20 seconds." This would change the dynamic of pvp to be set on who can hold their ground over a corpse long enough to loot it, meaning the actual winners of the fight taking home the spoils which is wurm's biggest reward for pvp. There are other possible mechanics to achieve the same goal. You could have a timer on opening the corpse that takes 30 seconds and the opener must stand still for those 30 seconds, something you would not be able to do unless you were winning or won the fight. It's not just a one sided bonus, it benefits all sides of a fight. If the team of the one who died manage to push the enemies off the corpse they can get their friend's gear back, whereas before it may well have been ninja looted from someone on the enemy team with low ping. If there were problems with the way epic did it, now would be the time to suggest something different.
  13. Just implement a slider to tone it all the way down, please. It'd take two seconds to just add a slider that lowers the brightness of the tile textures. There are already options to disable high res tile textures so I imagine an option or slider to lower the brightness, contrast or whatever is necessary shouldn't be too difficult. It'd really help alot of people while not affecting those who like the snow.

The incentive is still there because 80 and 90 skill will still show the exact QL and amount of mining actions left, you wont get that with the 20 skill and 60 skill messages, just a widely varying estimate as now. All this suggestion would do is add the information anyone is going to find on the wiki ingame instead of using cryptic messages.
  15. I've always liked this idea. Big +1 But I think boats should require their own unique design based on the concept. The same way tabards can be different to tall and small banners and flags, boat sails should have their own design using the kingdom colours and logo elements.
  16. 138 on cele. Some of you should stay, the player count is usually a quarter of that at peak times. It'll be fun to watch the numbers transfer from Cele to Inde as people travel from the goblin leader to the red dragon.
  17. Definitely add pics of the deed if you can along with location and whats it has to offer. People might be interested in the spot depending on where it is.

    Last I spoke to her after Duce told me she weren't well she was about to have some major operation iirc. Edit: Just checked her blog after I found the link, she last posted on Jan 17th and still is undergoing treatment, so theres some peace of mind.
  19. Huge axe is the best 2h weapon. If you want some variety try a halbred or a steel spear, they're like on par with 2h sword. They're meant to be used against horses in pvp to dehorse opponents but people do use them in pve I think.

    I'll try again whenever I next go hunting, the times I did hunt I was actually going for weaponskill over shieldskill like Jaz. I just had my skiller shield on too hoping that'd get me some shieldskill on the side, and I would shieldbash every mob after cooldown until it died. I guess being high in shieldskill already might explain partly why, could be the skillgain curve is a little too steep as you get higher skill?

    I'm in the same boat, I've been hunting for several hours, killed trolls which hit hard and used a 40ql 99coc shield and gained barely anything. Yet other people I talked to said they think its great gains now. I dunno what I'm doing wrong but its damn annoying, I'm was gridning shieldskill happily via pen training when the update came in and stopped me from being able to do that. I've been doing the same as most others who've reported good gains since then and gained barely anything, its weird.
