  1. Agreed, and was part of why I made my wishlist for high AH to grant an ability like this to breeders - not something attached to priests - give people a real reason to raise AH, and at the same time help to deal with the problem inherent in this system, namely that being able to breed for more traits, but with no means of controlling them, is still potentially detrimental, and will continue to to discourage people from working to high AH levels.
  2. If we are now moving on to wish lists...... I do see more options for customised creatures and interest in AH being generated here, but, until we see the full list of traits, begin to suspect that the new system still will not really push for people to max AH as much as possible. I suspect 5 speed, or 5 draught trait animals will not require 90 AH, and the benefits of other traits may not be enough to push people into going higher than 60-70. If I were to be able to wish for a change it would be that instead of just receiving "points" at say, 80AH, you could give the breeder an ability to do with helping control the ever more variable pool of traits so that they don't become a burden instead of a reward - which is the problem I see inherent in the system, and encourages people staying at 50 AH now. What comes to mind would be that the skilled animal breeder was given an ability where they were able to either select for a given trait, or be able to remove an existing trait and have it replaced by the game generated methods. I wouldn't want this to be available on every breeeding attempt, but to have it on a long cooldown, and when I say a long cooldown, I don't mean in hours, I mean maybe once a day or every two. The pool of traits available to be removed would not include negative traits, we have Fo priests and a rite that can be used for that (so this wouldn't impact them), and the choice of traits to select for would not include rare traits, or produce a horse that has more points than the breeder has available. One of the problems faced at the current break points on traits was how hard it was to get a specific line of traits going by needing to generate matched parents with a random trait addition system. It looks like this may be handled at least partially by traits breeding towards existing dominant trait pools, but once we have a 5 trait animal and then want to breed for specific things we are back at the mercy of even more traits in the pool and the RNG. The above would give us a period where we still had to deal with this, but with the carrot on the stick being we are able to look forward to having some control over the outcome due to hard work. Maybe at 90AH, the cooldown could be halved, or another ability given, etc. Could I remove keen senses from a horse that appeared on a breeding line I was working on for multiple weeks as a reward for making 80AH, and being able to do it twice as often at 90AH, my grooming brush would be just about smoking from overwork 😛 The majority of horses would be kept at reasonable levels, and a select few "special" animals would be available, either as your key breeding stock, a personal use animal, or to offer up as an occasional prestige sale.
  3. I'm back to being in the wait and see pool, now that the neg trait thing is dead, but with the trust I have for how Wurm RNG manages the production of new traits based on dominant ones, I don't really expect things going back to being optimum any time soon. Draught horses from current 5 speed stock, and especially bison, with many having what I see as being 3 speed traits being what they have currently been bred for, have a complete reset ahead. With so many more traits in the pool, that means an even longer time period than we are used to for creating a new line, and low AH may again be of benefit by simply limiting how many new traits get tossed into the mix at once. Till we get more details on how it works, I'm sitting on the fence, but not feeling excited about the changes to AH. I had been really hopeful that we would be able to somehow selectively influence traits, I know previous April fools jokes made light of training animals to be better was a thing.... but I saw this as an opportunity to actually do something along this line, based on your AH being high enough, now that would be a real enticement to higher AH. The feeding additions looks really nice though. I don't know if it will help with being able to not have to pen animals to prevent them getting diseased, and being able to have my animals roam paddocks like I would really prefer they could... but here's hoping
  4. Assumptions? It seems to be one of the more clearly stated things that was said: Yes I can probably get a max speed horse at 70-80 AH without needing, but I can get one earlier by using neg traits, or get an even better one with other wanted traits by indeed getting higher AH and using it. Again I state it clearly: This encourages the breeding and keeping of sickly, malformed, hungry animals with the benefit of breeding better offspring, and is to me morally and ethically reprehensible. The parents will not be cured of these conditions, only the ones to be used or sold, as I said - Puppy farm mentality. If the Dev responsible for this coming in hasn't thought of it in this light, perhaps they should, and see if it is really something they want to put their name to.
  5. Just points out that this has not been worked out very well, not that what was posted is correct. Personally, I am increasingly offended by the idea that it appears that we are being encouraged to inbreed our animals, I am beginning to call this the Wurm "Morallly dubious" patch in my head. This is the embodiment of the puppy farm mentality - don't give a damm about the welfare of the animals, just as long as you can do well out of the offspring. Is this the kind of image Wurm wants? Because if it goes ahead with this, I can just see some of the reviews being posted, and may well be one of the ones making the effort to post a review specifically to mention it. I have spent the last two days in game at a loss what to do with my breeding stock, and have completley stopped breeding. As it stands with the information we have been given so far, the only apparent thing I can do between now and the patch to work towards the new "meta" is to either inbreed my horses, or go looking for sickly stock to breed with them to introduce sickness and deformity, while relying on the RNG to push remaining traits to favoring either speed or draught. Both of these things I just can't be stuffed to do because of the way it makes me feel. Looking at every 5 speed pure traited foal that arrives and being saddened that it didn't turn out as a 4 speed, or a 4 speed with a negative trait is completely disheartening. Yes, they are only pixels and code, but if we are pushed into disregarding emotion and immersion in the game, then it's not a game I want to be playing. I have put a PSA on my horse sales post letting people know that they really don't want to be buying my 5 speed horses now, as the upcoming patch means that they will probably be made almost instantly redundant, and cannot even be sure due to lack of transparency that they won't actually become worse than they are now the moment this goes live. I could be just continuing to sell them to the unsuspecting players who are not paying attention to this, but that's not in my ethic. I am really hoping that the negative trait encouragement gets a rethink. It feels wrong and seems to have implications that have not been thought through very well at all (balance, global rite effect). New griefing method - build a 90ql Fo altar beside a breeders deed so that it covers all their breeding stock just before a Fo rite is up for casting? "Oh did that mess somebody up? I was just making a domain in the area for doing missions in." Or are we looking at changing the effect of the Fo global? Having a global cast spell that can have a detrimental affect on others gameplay (morally dubious as it is) surely seems like a bad idea to me.
  6. Ack,! Here was me doing the same thing and putting it in the speed category and going "Well at least our current 5 speeds have 3 speed and 2 draught, that will favor the breeding of more speed traits" . That really does throw a whole new bunch of questions as to what will happen with existing traits going forward.
  7. Don't PVP myself, but do Lib priests have, or are they getting, a Genesis equivelant on PVP? If not, it would seem those with access to a Fo priest will have a definite advantage when it comes to breeding horses, this seems like a balance issue to me?
  8. When a tamed animal with keen senses is standing on a water tile it has a chance to do an emote that can be seen in the event window. https://forum.wurmonline.com/index.php?/topic/183770-valrei-international-barnyard-business/&do=findComment&comment=1850097 I tried leading and riding one across a known tile hundreds of times with no luck and even standing it on one saddled for half an hour, but.... apparently it's a thing. Whether that thing is worth a trait slot is entirely another matter as it would seem the actual chance of it triggering is low unless it is parked on a water tile, using it to find one via this system seems farcial at best. I guess you could happen to see the emote when the animal is roaming in a pen with a tile and that could help, the wisdom of having a tamed animal in said pen, well, not something i would advise doing. 😛
  9. PSA: With the announced changes to animal husbandry I can not in good conscience recommend you purchase current 5 speed stock. ( https://forum.wurmonline.com/index.php?/topic/184163-valrei-international-feeding-time/#comments ) Current 5 speed horse stock will only be 3 speed with the AH update, and all 3 speed traits that currently work on bison will not only cease to work for hitched, but if you have bison with the current 3 pulling traits, they will breed for speed traits, not draught as the new system will favor breeding towards the dominant trait pool on parents. Horse sales have now been fully suspended while the AH updates effects are sorted out. The few remaining four speed i had have all been removed from sale, as it looks like they will become my best breeding prospects going forward if I am understanding the upcoming changes correctly. I would like to thank all my prior customers and feel apologetic to those who have bought 5 speeds from me, as it appears they will soon no longer be the speed horse meta, and will not even make very good breeding horses as I am understanding things. I invite you all to read, and post your comments at the link provided above. Sales will resume being advertised once the changes have been clarified, or when new stock lines that work with the impending changes have been bred. Regards Impetuous/Delone.
  10. More thoughts: Almost every single current well bred bison will become useless, both for pulling and for breeding - the 3 speed traits that worked will do nothing, and with 3 speed traits and at best 2 current draught traits, will breed for more speed traits via the mechanic stated thus making them utterly useless for working toward the new goals. Inbreeding for neg traits will be a desirable action. WTG! Breeders with 70 or more ah that bred 5 speeds with spark and healthy plus another non combat trait are going to have a nightmare I think. 3 speed, 3 misc (?) 2 draught - what they get pulling from the pool is going to be all over the place i think. Will having a 7 trait horse with the dominant being speed mean the foals are more inclined to replace existing traits that are currently shared, or will they continue to have majority foals with the same traits as parents? Spent my day wandering round foaling yards looking at new arrivals that I have spent months developing to be 5 speeds straight, and every one that is, is now a sadness to me. To those that say 50 AH breeders shouldn't be able to produce horses as good as 90 breeders, its not so much about that, as the fact that we used the existing mechanic in a different way to work to 5 speed horses, this was not easier than getting more AH and being able to afford spare neutral or neg traits, it's a process of strict selective breeding of clean traited horses, any horse with a neutral is essentially useless to you. In addition, these are only better to other 50 ah breeders, as a general horse they were worse than 5 speed with spark and healthy. Trust me, I could have been breeding and selling 5 speed horses much earlier on the new cluster by not stopping grooming at the points I did. I set out with the specific goal to produce 5 speed horses that others could breed their own 5 speeds from without needing higher AH. A specific niche market so to speak. Now my entire breeding stock has two traits I don't want. Imagine if you affinity food now gave a negative effect as well as a positive one on every one you have pre made, or your weapons and tools you have produced now damage more from use or something... this is where the negativity comes from. As pointed out above, the more traits you currently have bred for with higher AH, the less free traits you will have on your existing good stock. A 2 traited draught animal with a couple of negatives is now better than your 5 speed or 7/8/9 traited horses for breeding draught horses, or a 3 speed traited horse with any negatives is better for breeding speed ones. New reason to raid fallen deeds asap? To get the previously crap horses that will form the basis of your new breeding lines. Months of breeding lines, all down the drain. I just pulled my 4 speed ebony horses off the merchant - after recently clearing almost all my remaining 4 speeds, they are now my most desirable stock.
  11. I not so sure that's accurate, the three speed traits should affect speed directly, and the two "draught" traits effect speed by allowing more weight. If the traits continue to do this, then the horses will not actually be any slower.... they just won't be the straight out fastest horse you can breed, and you will need to weigh (excuse the pun) up if you want a horse that doesn't slow down as much when you are overweight, or one that can be faster when it's not encumbered? It seems to be more clear that the speed traits will have no effect when hitched, but as I said, up front transparency would be greatly appreciated. On a re-read, I think what is actually the most upsetting is the fact that the ONLY way to get the best horses will involve gaming AH skill by the use of negative traits and a Fo priest to remove them afterwards. This seems to me to be vastly unfair to the majority of players who don't have a Fo priest. Imagine telling a smith or carpenter that the only way they can craft the best gear is by having a priest cast something that boosts the ql a certain percent, or that you can't create a top ql tool unless it has some other flaw that is required to be removed once you have pushed it as far as you can - this is the equivalent. On a positive note, the feeding changes look awesome, I would have said this sooner, but by the time I got to the end of the OP, the AH stuff had totally driven it from my mind.
  12. This all sounds so needlessly complex, hopefully the reality of it in action is not as bad as it looks. At the least, it's looking like breeding without using a Fo priest, as I currently do, will not be a valid option any more. Current speed traited stock should not get any slower with these changes, if the traits they have remain, so should the benefits from them, and adding particular traits to them with ongoing breeding should have the possibility to make them faster. If it works to actually slow them down, this is not an update, it's a straight out nerf. Can we get an answer as to what the actual effect will be on current 5 speed trait horse stock? Going to be so sad that speed traited horses are going to look like the hot blooded model, they look positively sickly in the preview Can we get some transparency in this whole points system with a working list of what the traits are, their effect, and what their point value is? IE at 50 AH, is it even possible to breed a horse the same speed as you can now? Or will it require more just to get back to where we are now?

  15. Yes, I see the same behavior a fair bit and agree something needs to be done to boost actual participation. Edit: Re-did this section was having a brain fart and looking at it backwards, It's the missions like kill 23 of xxx that would be messed up by a 5% minimum, often with these it's hard enough to find one to kill, and having a minimum percentage contribution even as low as 5% would mean you need to kill two, with the chance that the majority of people who only manage to find one would have contributed but not being valid to receive reward. Another take on it could be to rework Karma rewards, if there were more commonly useful options for using Karma, that would also encourage people to do a larger part in missions. I have accumulated over 70k of Karma from taking part in missions since Harmony started to get them, and have not yet used a single point of it as nothing in there has been of use - about the only thing that may be of use at some point is if I lose a body at an inconvenient time and need to summon it. Some possible suggestions might be time cooldown locked abilities like a refresh, summon soul, summon somebody elses corpse, a heal/cure etc. I'm not even talking a daily cooldown, it could be weekly or more, so that it doesn't step on the toes of priest abilities, but on that odd occasion it may be enough to save your butt in an otherwise desperate situation - literally your good karma for past deeds repaying you in a time of need. Either way, I do think the system could benefit from a fresh look at it.

  24. Steps to reproduce? Does the animal need to be tamed as suggested by others? Does this only happen while in stealth as the text seems to indicate? Is it parked on a water tile, or it occurs when it wanders over one? A number of people on Harmony attempted taming and riding/leading horses, leading dogs, not one message. If it requires taming and stealth, it's not so much a trait as an easter egg.
