  1. Well for one, they aren't players, so that's not PvP.  Yes they could kill your livestock, like any rampant troll, but they mostly went after players.

I suppose they could tone down the wall bashing and make them respect deeds, but the unexpected danger is the exciting part.  I think just making them a decently rare encounter would suffice, especially if they can be found with a pendulum and leave behind desirable loot (valrei items mostly).

I didn't know pendulums don't detect legendary creatures anymore.  They definitely still work to find champions though so valrei mobs could be added to the Lurker in the Woods list

ALSO, if they add something like a 10% chance of the valrei creature having a strange bone on its corpse, I guarantee everyone will LOVE to encounter one, no matter the damage.

We are defiantly open to suggestions about what people think would be best for epic going forward. Just closing it fully is a tough thing to do and something I personally hope we can avoid.

I mean, you don't have to be defiant about it, but personally I suggest adding a massive incentive to convince people to play there despite the risks and problems.  Like, no f2p restrictions on the home servers.  You can grind skills on the home servers on a free character with no limit, with the epic skill grind system, but cannot bring those skills to freedom, and cannot access Elevation without premium.

I bet the net result of this would be a huge increase in Epic playerbase, both premium and free, an eventual big increase in Elevation population as the advantages of that server call to all the home server players, AND an increase in income as the f2p home-server'ers premium up to hit Elevation here and there.

Would let the kind of players for whom current premium is too steep and f2p too drudgery get hooked on Wurm and have a place to play even during times they couldn't afford it.  Also imagine the marketing inherent in having areas that are completely truly free to play on without restriction.

Also you know even the people that only play if it's free will often buy occasional silver anyway.

  3. I seem to be in the minority here as I don't mind the delays and such, hell I back Star Citizen and if they ever do finish that game it'll be a couple DECADES late.

My issue is with priority.  Prior to the breeding changes, I made a post stating that it seemed weird and backwards to prioritize changing a perfectly functional and enjoyable system that we can already use, for something that is likely to be buggy and problematic, when there are far more important things dev time should be spent on in my opinion.

Here we are much later, and though most people seemed to disagree with me at the time, the breeding changes have proven to be a huge problematic time sink and instead of fixing THAT the priority seems to have shifted to VR.

Your players had some awesome suggestions for the breeding thing, but you went your own way.  Your players keep telling you that your priorities don't make sense for the health and longevity of Wurm, but you go your own way.

This has been the case as far back as I can remember.  Originally I figured Rolf's vision was overriding player opinion, but Rolf is long gone.  Now it is clear that they've made a habit of reading our opinions, occasionally responding to one or two, and then going off and doing whatever completely different thing they want regardless.  I can't say for certain that this is really how the process goes, but it is certainly how it looks from player perspective.

MANY MANY mistakes and problems and bad decisions over the years could have been avoided if you'd just listen to your paying customers.  Not just hear them, actually listen.

Imagine if further updates all became collaborative.  Imagine if we got to vote and decide, as players, on dev time priority and implementation of new features.  I'm pretty sure the game would be far more playable, and have a much easier time keeping new players.

I do realize this is a double edged sword.  My favorite MMORPG, EverQuest, was ruined because the devs listened too much to the loudest players and made the game too easy and removed every bit of challenge and risk from standard play.  So I get it, I really do.  Wurm's high difficulty staying difficult is one huge thing in its favor.  However, at this point the remaining players are comfortable with this difficulty and aren't asking for an easier game.  Maybe some QOL updates to remove some tedium, but I have seen very few suggestions aimed at reducing the actual challenges in the game.

Please, work with us instead of against (or in spite of) us.

  4. Please make adventuring on Freedom more exciting by adding the rare encounter with a son of no gump, or eagle spirit, or drake spirit, or spawn of uttacha, etc.   This was one of my favorite things about living in the epic cluster as a mostly carebear style player.

Let them trigger on a pendulum that can find legendary creatures.  Would add another dynamic to unique hunting, as you'd need to handle the valrei creatures attracting your pendulum before knowing if a dragon is just a bit further.

  5. I love my VR heaset.  I've done some work-arounds before to try it out in Wurm, and while not having native support damaged the experience a bit, I found it to be quite awesome to actually walk around my deed in VR and feel like I'm really there.

It was a fantastic experience, and VR in Wurm is something I would very much like to have.

That said, I've been bumping my bug report on the bug forum for literally YEARS and even when a dev told me a long time ago it was being worked on, it was never fixed.  I was also very against the AH changes BEFORE they happened, and while lots of people argued with me that it was going to be great and sorely needed, I maintained that there are both far more important priorities for dev time, and that I lacked confidence that the changes would be better than what we already had.

I'm not trying to say I told you so (though, I mean, I totally did), just want to say that while I absolutely love Wurm and still pour hundreds of my hard earned dollars into the game, please start listening to your own freaking players.  WE are the ones opening our wallet and giving you money.  WHY DO YOU REFUSE TO LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE PAYING YOU????

VR?  Yeah, would be great, but no.  Spend some time fixing issues and addressing the concerns of your paying customers, THEN implement the gimmick that will cause the small financial bump before the numbers revert to normal.  If you don't, your gimmick might LOSE you players/money in the longer term as player confidence is fading quickly.

I apologize if my frustration is starting to show.

    EDITED TO ADD:
I also want to point out that as someone who started this game on the Epic Cluster, I was there when a badly considered change was implemented despite the ACTUAL PLAYERS ON EPIC all telling you it was a terrible idea, and now my home cluster is a dead wasteland.  I want to point out that DESPITE my home server and my home and my friends ALL being eliminated due to badly thought out changes and failure to listen to the players, I am STILL here and giving you my money.  Please stop making me feel like a sucker, or like I'm in an abusive relationship just waiting for the abuser to finally change and stop abusing me.  Listen to your own freaking players.

  6. Hello,

I am starting a large project that will require lots of workers, but first I need someone a lot better at designing in DeedPlanner than I am.

Specifically, I'm looking at someone with experience and skill at designing a large cave system within DeedPlanner.  I have a pretty specific design I'm looking to replicate, but have had a lot of trouble trying to do it myself as I am not good with the tool.

I can pay whatever it takes.  If you can do this please contact me via PM or in game.  My characters in game are Midgaar and Koreal.

    Thanks.

  7. Bump.

Bug still there.  Still interfering with beds, portals, smithing, eating, drinking, etc.

I posted this bug almost 3 years ago.  Retro said it was being worked on over two years ago.  Is this one just unsolvable and I should give up at this point?

My castle was designed for hosting monsters throughout, and I have even bigger things I'm working on that will also suffer to this bug.  I waited a long time but at this point I think I'll just have to redesign everything and go with a different approach, as I suspect this bug is not getting fixed.

What is he having, I'd like some of the same, make it 2, 3 mugs!

What are we complaining about AH being tied to Fo priest.. why were priests begging to be untied from crafting alts and other people for simple things, why is AH ties to Fo-es, why is it so hard to have a plain 5 speed horse at high AH skill or there's that urge to stab a newborn foal if it's rare color and 5-speed but with a bad trait, why..., what.., how is he so happy with 2x 5-speed champs and others can't enjoy the system the same way. I wonder. Maybe he's missing SOMETHING, or is that us..?

I never said the system is perfect.  I am all for general bugfixes and some carefully considered minor improvements.  However, years of experience in this game have taught me to be VERY skeptical with complete overhauls.  Even a single fairly simple seeming improvement can change something from tolerable to abandoned.  For example, I used to live on the Epic cluster.

Right now I really like the animals and breeding in the game.  Could the system be better?  Of course!  I am simply worried that I may not like the system after the overhaul, and right now it is my favorite part of Wurm.  I can also see lots and lots of areas that need attention far more than the animals, so the priority confuses me.

    Animal Keeping:

I'm not aware there have been any issues with animal keeping at all? I'm keeping a lot of animals including a champion troll without any problems and have no issues there.

How about making a few new wall types or something else people really want? For example arch-type walls that combine what people nowadays build as arch+(high iron) fence including a gate/door type of that kind?

    THIS!

Breeding and keeping exotic animals is my favorite part of Wurm!  I love the mechanics of how it all works, from my 5 speed champion Croc to my 5 speed champion Unicorn and many others, this is my niche!

I realize it's not the most popular part of Wurm, but I love that about it too!  Please don't change it.  Small bugfixes would be appreciated, but please don't do a complete overhaul of how it all works.  It's a great system!

  10. BUMP!

It's not as bad as it used to be.  A bit more infrequent that it actually interrupts what I'm trying to do, but it definitely still happens.  Worse, it interferes with my ability to use a bed or an epic portal because the game thinks I have been in combat recently, even though I have not entered the pen of any aggressive creature, simply got triggered through the floor from the floor above.

I suspect this must be a tough one to solve.  Any help I can give please let me know!

    Thanks!

  11. Hello!  Would you ever consider breeding and selling other mounts?  Such as 5-speed Unicorn, Bison, Brown Bears, Crocs, or Hell-Horses?

If so, I have a female 5-speed Champion Unicorn, a female 5-speed Champion Croc, and a female 5-speed Champion Brown Bear, that you could use to start from.  I also have champion scorpion and troll (no traits) and wild caught hell-horses.

I am right next to you in Eden Village on Newspring Island.

Thanks and I hope you consider it!  I'd be willing to help for sure, I can Dominate Monster, Charm Animal, and tame most tamable things.

  12. I first heard of Wurm Online years and years ago through MMORPG.com when looking for a mmorpg that worked natively on Linux.

Needless to say, I'm glad I did, and I'm happy it is being promoted there.

That said, I'm very disappointed that with new players they keep adding MORE SPACE.  It's like they WANT the game to feel as dead and lifeless as possible.

Seriously what's with that?  I get that there's a lot of hermits but I very much believe we could all live comfortably just on Xanadu alone and the game would feel waaaaaay more alive.

  13. I've gotten tons of useless rares.

Like one day I was digging up some dirt and got a rare roll, thinking I got yet another rare dirt it turned out I got a supreme.... bone.  Yeah, some long dead creature's frigging bone.  I couldn't even cook with it!

I added it to the rare one I already had and my goblin skull and made a skull and crossbones decoration, until I got bored of that and sac't it for nutrition and a tiny bit of skill gain.

    ugh talk about useless.

  14. BUMP!

So it's been a couple of years, and this problem still occurs, and trying to work at my forge while keeping my castle's monster army intact is still a frustrating experience.

Is this something that is still being worked on?

    Thanks!
