okay I have been attempting to sift thru this thread and I have many questions!

    1) Why the hell do we need a raid window in wurm???

    2) Can you still tap a token for silver and only get 50% and then the deed automatically goes into safety from being tapped again for X period of time???

^^^^  2 From my carebear perspective is far more enjoyable!

    3) WTF is wrong with small late night raids?  That is pretty much at the core of small group pvp?  Raid Times promotes big zerg on zerg not interested at all....

^^^^ Again as a carebear I didn't really consider offline raids to be that big of a deal.

Because it sucks to have your deed deleted in the middle of the night

    4) I have noticed some bizzare comments about off dead mine doors and maxing their QL etc???  WTF is this about???  One of the greatest feature of the game is building canals thru mountains so you can sail your knarr from point A to B faster and stealthier than the other guy!  If we are somehow limiting what can be done with a mine off dead then that sounds like a terrible idea in my opinion.  It's not like a High QL stone door could hold back anybody determined to get thru it, I know I have bashed thru many in my day.  Again it's hard to really understand where we are in this regard as a vet returning to the game after some time but my 2 cents is less limitations the better!  But limiting QL on a mine door just seems silly!!!

Because it sucks to chase someone, almost catch them, and have them run into a one-tile mine with a 90ql mine door.

    5) For what reason have we taken away the ability to ride Hell Horses and Unicorns that seems frankly arbitrary!  And again why take away and or limit content?

Because it sucks to have hellhorses (and 31 BC as a result) be a pvp requirement.

5a) I am seeing comments about horses and when we can ride and how long it takes to tame etc etc???  Horses were far and away the most fleshed out content in the whole game and raising horses it's bar none my favorite portion of this game!  So why there are so many comments regarding balancing of one of the best systems makes me wonder what has happened while I was away???  Horses should take time to breed it's part of what brings value to a good horse is it's not something you can just magically create in a day or even a week.  So if you have done any bizarre messing with the time table to get too a 5 trait horse for instance then that sounds nothing but bad for my ears!

Because it sucks to have one big fight and not be able to play the game for a month while you wait for your horses to restock. (This one would have never been an issue if pvp servers weren't subject to animal caps caused by freedom animal hoarders)

The fact that BLE existed usually saved new black lighters because the BLH group was typically those who would help new players and who would guide and teach them...  The BLE types were the ones that would knock down their wooden wall for the lols....

One thing to remember is that this server is 4x4 instead of 2x2. You could build off the starter island and it'd still be a longer sail from an enemy kingdom than the south side of Affliction was from the north side of Elevation.

Also: I see a lot of people complaining about the raid window being too short. Someone's probably already suggested it and I just haven't seen it, but why not just make the window short, but have it pause while enemies are on the deed itself? This allows for time to actually raid the deed, but still prevents people from waking up and finding out that some NEET squad bulldozed their deed at 4am

  3. I don't much see a point in just wiping faith and nothing else. I realize the meta is even more priest heavy than in the past, but it seems arbitrary to draw the line at "ok yeah we can churn out 90ql weapons, armor, and gear on day 1, but no spells because that's a problem, alright?" It's a moot point since they apparently already said they won't do it.

Another point is that every weird change that's made, like wiping faith or disabling priests, opens up doors to messy potential interactions and bugs (Presumably you separate faith from Elevation and home servers? If so, what happens if you're a different religion on both servers? Or different alignment on both servers?) I'm personally not a fan of constantly throwing in different mechanics and changes on Elevation just for the sake of throwing stuff at a wall to see what sticks.. It's already hard to differentiate changes that are only on Elevation versus Chaos versus Freedom. That goes for a lot more than just this priest thing.

  4. Guess I'll weigh in even if I'm a bit late

I'm nervous to see what comes from this, just based on what we've seen in the past in terms of quick, major fixes. That said, a new, smaller map is a very good thing (I'm resisting the urge to say "I told you so" when I voted against the elevation reset years ago).  I hope it is more like the old elevation map with wide open areas and mountains than what we currently have. I'm happy to see that a lot of the primary issues with PvP are being addressed since that's the only reason I played this game.

When I started Epic in 2012, I was pretty much able to jump into PvP the moment I could ride a horse. I couldn't imagine doing that today. I don't necessarily agree with all of the changes being made, but I'm happy that the issue with old, strong accounts with tons of buffs and SotG and moon metals is being addressed, even though I'm one of those. I'm cool with older accounts being stronger, but they shouldn't just dumpster everyone else.  Soft caps for characteristics are good.

Not sure to feel about hellhorses. I agree that they're something of a barrier to PvP entry. That said, the barrier is partially removed when the map is made smaller and there still exists the tradeoff to not having led pets (do people even still do that?) It took years before the meta on Epic became hellhorses.

    Mine door changes are good

I don't agree with removing recall. I think it should have a long cooldown after having enemies in local (1 hour of ingame time?) that is removed when standing on a deed with no enemies in local. I've used recall a lot when escaping buggy situations.

I'm alright with the meditation changes. They'll definitely need another pass though because this feels very much like a bandaid. This'll just make Path of Power become meta for the mini SotG since it'll still eliminate enchant damage.

TBH, I'd prefer it if sorcery were removed entirely. I don't think it adds much to the game while just being another barrier required for entry. It was really cool when we had 0 info on it and people started acquiring items, but now it just feels like a half-baked pseudo-priest system.

I'm not on board with removing champs or all priests. I don't think that the mechanics behind them are fundamentally broken, but might need to be tweaked. Champs add flavor and one of the best parts of this game was trapping and killing them.

I'd very much like to see priests return to to the original 4. It definitely wasn't a perfect balance, but it's much easier to manage from a balance standpoint and it felt less cheesy than everyone converting to whatever new priest managed to win the roulette wheel of spell selection.

Despite having a a lot of time put into my account, I'd love a skill reset, although that seems like it's out of play for now.

Overall, I'm happy to see that changes are heading in what seem to be the right direction. I hope we see something substantial in terms of player retention.

    • Archery penalty removed from helms, changed archery from a flat fail % to added difficulty depending on armour penalty

I don't really know why there's an insistence on having an armor penalty in the first place. If this is based on PvP, as the title of this thread suggests, then no penalty would be ideal. The original rationale for this, if I remember correctly, was that it'd cause people to move away from plate and saturate the PvP community with other armor types. That simply is not how it works, since the raw defense provided by plate is infinitely better than dealing with lesser armors being more able to use archery. People just take their armor off to negate the penalty and still will in the event that any noticeable difficulty is added. I'm not entirely sure what this change entails to overall archery success/fail rates, but it's almost pointless to wear plate and use archery now, even with 99 archery.

Insanity will need to be revamped if SotG is dropped to 30% because a 30% DR, even if permanent, is relatively equivalent to Path of Hate's bonus and Path of Power's bonus, while those two paths offer way, way more in terms of overall utility. Insanity is a one-trick pony. If it's going to be anything other than a niche/gimmick path, then nerfing SotG will need to be offset with utility in other areas.

The top accounts will still overshadow the others if trading blow-by-blow, and it's an obnoxious red herring when we're addressing the question of balance in PvP. Remember that we've had deadly hard irritates on kings and scale back in the day. That's far, far worse than what we have now, and it wasn't a panacea for PvP issues. If there's a desire to create more PvP, then the fundamental problems with PvP (most of which I addressed in my kingdom PM) need to be addressed. Tweaking a few numbers will not make people any more or less likely to devote hours of their life for a tiny chance at actually meeting one of the other 10 people online at the time for a fight.

I have SotG but I don't have much attachment to it. I'll switch to Hate like everyone else if it gets changed and be on my merry way. I just think that there's an undue amount of emphasis being placed on the change when it won't noticeably impact the way that PvP is conducted.

  5. +1 nuke player gods and don't look back

I love it when people threaten with subscriptions to try and force changes as if theyre the only sub that matters. For every person who unsubscribes because of gods getting balanced, there will be one who stays or resubscribes because the priest system is being fixed.

    •     Remove Information minister. - Only for the kingdom influence thing, not the kingdom offices.
    •     Remove all teleportation forms on PvP servers (including home servers). - Please no. I don't want to be stuck somewhere and have to leave but have my teleportation disabled. Just make it impossible to do for new villagers (/vteleport is ok)
    •     Remove archery penalties or scale according to individual armour pieces. +1 Please just remove all archery penalties. Nobody wanted it when it was introduced and it's been nothing but trouble.
    •     Disable embarking on vehicles or mounts while in combat with an enemy players. - No... Why?
    •     Addition of Archery keybinds. Sure
    •     Remove stun/throw from valrei mobs. Yes please
    •     Make nolocate on bodies work similar to jewellery with power determining % blocked. Cooldowns on searching for same person. Yes please
    •     Remove disintegration requiring token drain and remove magranon bonus. No to the token drain thing. This'll make dirt walls useless since everyone will just make an off-deed mine with a high strength door, bring thousands of onions and disintegrate their way into a deed. The only way to prevent that as a defender is to wait for them to break into your mine or to try and break into theirs and kill them, but you're usually drastically outnumbered since raids happen at 6am.
    •     Creation of a “verbose” combat tab option, including extra information such as Area of Effect spells, Direct target spells,     karma and meditation buffs, etc Sure
    •     Raise deed costs on PvP servers to limit expansion by simply placing multiple deeds to conquer towers Er, this isn't the right fix. Deeds are already prohibitively expensive for a lot of people if you want more than 1 guard. The range at which deeds block tower cap should just be reduced drastically or removed outright. I don't really see the reason it exists.
    •     Scale scenario point rewards according to mission type (sacrifice, drain, traitor, tree) then modified by whether server is friendly, enemy, or elevation. +1 Very good
    •     Make uniques focus points of missions, or giving kingdom based rewards for slaying. Eh. I don't know what this means really.
    •     Change battle rank to only be given through kills, not through missions or capping towers/camps. Agreed. Just remove the decay over time though. There aren't even enough noobs anymore to justify the decay over time, let alone actual fighters.
    •     Make destruction of longhouses easier, focus on less tedium when raiding and promote faster raids.. Less tedium sure, but I'm not sure how you'd make destruction of longhouses easier? They're already easy. Some people haven't realized this years later, but you don't have to catapult every single floor if you pay attention.
    •     Make chaos and possibly home server merchants tauntable No to home servers. It's a good change on Elevation but there was never any trade on Elevation anyways outside of like 2 total merchants. People will just move their goodie storehouses to alts.
    •     Remove speed bonus from logged off alts on boats on  PvP servers. +1 but isn't this just a bug?
    •     Have tower guards target whoever is trying to capture the tower. Require killing of guards before tower is captured. Only if the player's cap can't be cancelled by being targeted by guards.

As a side note for SotG: just nerf healing and you'll see SotG players drop like sacks of bricks. I almost died in 4 hits the other night with SotG and I have one of the better accounts on Epic. The current meta is to have SotG and as many Fo priests as you can get so that it's not 100% extra health, but rather 400% or what have you. Just nerf the Fo priests so that you can't chain Light of Fo over and over again. Insanity as a path has one good thing - SotG, and nerfing it will just make Hate and Power the new meta and people will begin to cry because they're getting 1-shot by players with hate bonus and they have no SotG to protect themselves.

Also, preventing SotG players from healing at all as some are suggesting is not a good idea. WTS venom arrows

the same people who weren't even able to deduce that the old server population pre-reset was lower than it is right now.

Let's look at a year ago

Alright. Tell me how this horizontal line connecting two points from almost exactly a year apart shows that there was an increase in population.

  7. +1

People acting like rarity is predictable are kidding themselves. I did a grind 1-90 of weaponsmithing and had a grand total of 2 rares. A day later I made a supreme and rare cloth square within minutes of each other.

The troll rolls aren't really rare rolls when imping and are useless information since there's no reliable way to predict rolls. It's not "Well, I used up my rare roll this hour, time to do something else".

-1   everyone has a nahjo now and put alot of work into them,  its too late to try and  remove them or give people aroother option without getting people angry and they quit. whats done is done, However for future priests that land a demigod, id say sure then this thread would be great in deciding the outcome until then, just cause a handful of ya dont like it doesnt mean you gotta change pve. Your epic crap and priests was flung on us, we like it, deal with it

Thanks for putting the major problem with this new system in the first sentence.
