  1. Same here... very disappointing. Plenty of time to have these clients updated and ready BEFORE launch !!!!!
  2. This deed is very large and we could use more help and new friends. Welcome SirTokemhatz, Thamoriam and LightRunner Looking forward to seeing all of you online in the next few hours and days.
  3. I like the added pelt idea and it is only QL 5, so helps getting things started like creating a QL 10+ large cart. I recall making my first large cart and getting it to 9.8 before needing a pelt to continue imping.
  4. MARKS - Do Steam transactions for premium time and silver produce the same amount of Marks as the current WURM shop? If yes, then is it integrated and we can expect the MARKS to be available in-game at the same speed as it is now or will there be a transaction delay going through the Steam store?
  5. Love the names... now lets move on. So many of us are just excited for the new server launch no matter the names. 😛
  6. Agreed, I know some like the Map dumps to be released early, but I for one would like the thrill of adventure of trying to make my way using the in game map and landmass landmarks. If I am going through the trouble of creating a new toon I want to get close to the experience I had when I first started and spawned on a road near "The Howl" on Independence many moons ago without the temptation of map dumps before release. Lets have the map dumps a little while after the initial surge.
  7. The more we have the easier it becomes for all... love seeing the interest growing as we get closer to launch day. 😉
  8. Signing up! Thanks for all the planning and future planning to come. Looking forward to a beautiful village!
  9. I like it... has potential for so many areas of WURM. I would certainly like a nice grass woven fishing or farming hat. Or using a woven steamer to make some tasty dumplings.
  10. Coming back to the Hunting Lodge after a long day of fighting and butchering... Looking forward to a good hot meal and a cozy bed warmed by the fire. 🍗 🍺 🛏️ 🔥
  11. Agreed - looks like a pantry. But I do like that picture! it makes me hungry. Larders and old Ice Boxes were definitely in the form of a cabinet style. In fact the one we have in game would be for a well-off family. The average citizen would be lucky to have more than one shelf.
  12. Lots of great ideas for player owned/controlled NPCs ! Have some of you seen KatsPurr Ultima Project? - recreating the cities of Ultima within WURM Unlimited. Here is one episode that shows how NPCs can bring WURM to life: Wurm Unlimited - Recreating Ultima Online - Part X - Building Nujel'm For the nay sayers... It is hard to understand why NPCs on a deed can be a bad thing. The main argument that I keep hearing is that they want players to fill the deeds and make them living breathing villages. We've had 15 years of fantastic projects and we fill our deeds with items to make it feel more "lived in" but never quite succeeding without other players visiting or being part of the deed. If you could consistently gather enough players to keep a deed lively then why isn't it done on a consistent basis? Its because we are human and we strive to explore and create from our own mind's eye. I can travel to 10-20 deeds in one day and never meet another person despite 150 people playing on the server. It is for this reason that we should have Deed NPCs developed for the players.
  13. I was just talking to some of my Steam friends in an attempt to have them join me on the new Steam release server and this question definitely came up. Some didn't care as they never played before, some have played and didn't like putting in a year of game time to be told that the server would be joining the main cluster. I asked the following of those that had concerns: If you advanced your character on the Steam release server and you wanted to leave would you pay a one way ticket (character transfer) to the main cluster instead of the enter server joining the cluster and they all said YES. Of course the conversation broke down from there due to all the other logistics of what could they take? Merchant? Horse(s), ships? Carts, wagons? But, the consensus was overwhelmingly to keep the server separate. I also understand that the in the past other start-separate servers have joined the cluster after a period of time, but I'd also like to point out that I don't think there was any real polling on the matter other than general forum polling. If the Steam server was ever considered to join the main cluster in the future then I would hope that a real poll of paid premium players of the Steam server would be part of the process.
  14. We could flip this idea around a little and make whatever the Title bonus or reward more of a community asset by giving something back to the Deed/Village/Alliance. Perhaps a range of items could be enhanced for the entire deed and thus might also be a mechanism leading to more integrated communities (this includes alliances) As indicated above some type of Title bonus but instead of the individual gaining a reward it is spread to a deed buff. Some examples might be: A master Chef (Sl 50) might bring an extra 1% nutritional bonus to all food prepared on the deed (no matter who cooks it). Same with other primary skill sets as long as the skill activity takes place within the deed. Perhaps as a community gains different grandmasters at 90+ skill in the village (or alliance), the deed upkeep can get a reduced upkeep buff. (the number of grandmasters TBD) I know the solo crowd would not like this, but honestly the solo crowd (and newbies) would now have more reasons to consider joining a village or alliance if community buffs helped their game-play.
  15. One full set Bronze edition studded please. COD to Kahn Bronze edition - jacket and pants ql93, other parts ql90 EDIT... And received! Very Fast Response. Thank you
  16. Bump for 2020 This topic covering various NPCs decorative or functional has been around for a very long time. WURM Online is a at a cross section where they need more premium players to keep the game fresh and viable (i.e. the push for Steam release), but also the game needs a little modernization to attract and hold new players. For those players that want to have their deeds feel more lively, why not be able to buy various decorative NPC contracts (or tokens) from a Trader. Win-Win: potentially increasing the silver purchase and spend within game ($ sink). A suggested way to roll this out for WURM (given small development team): Phase One: Offer decorative NPC with the software hooks to managed within the Deed settings and roles and future AI motion enhancements. Phase One NPCs can simply be a place holder {perhaps one that waves every so often (the wave action/npc mesh is already is in game)} Add a few other models maybe one that can wonder a little bit (Town Cryer) Phase Two: When there is time and resources give the NPCs some more movement functions (leveraging the aforementioned software hooks) Add another functional NPC such as a bartender with access to food and drink that is in storage within the the same building. Wine, Meed food from Larder, etc. (assign items to sell just like regular merchant) Reiterate and improve.
  17. Add emoji to in-game chat to enhance and liven the in-game communications. 😜 I hear some of you grumbling already... "Don't mess with my nice neat wall of text". LOL I am well past half a century on this earth and maybe use only 3-4 emojis, however my kids(young adults), use emojis all the time. I see them on social media, on games, interacting with their coworkers using emojis to communicate feelings and ideas. If the game and interface is to progress it would be good to consider in-game usage of emojis. I can't speak for the technical difficulties of coding for WURM, but I can say it is not too hard coding a C# lookup function of a Unicode table and should not be too much effort. (https://www.unicode.org/emoji/charts/emoji-list.html) Any more emoji ideas? - Perhaps create or assign symbols for specific Channels? Example in the Trade channel: WTS, PC, WTB symbols or perhaps add them to the text color setting options? The Trade channel could auto-convert "WTS " to a unicode symbol or colorize it based on the user's preference.
  18. In regards to AWS commentary... The clues that I have gathered is that running WURM Online without more modern database coding, structures and calls may be leading to put Wurm into the highest tier IOPs hardware which can get expensive and unsustainable and most likely not reaching the desired results as Sklo outlined. If you are already maxing out hardware speeds with the fasted CPU and Disk then next place to look is probably some of the code in conjunction with a less expensive cloud hosting solution. Given $$ and time there are ways to track this stuff down (cough.. "LoadRunner"... cough) This is not easy stuff and there is likely no magic bullet that will just fix everything in a single stroke. Keep at it Keenan!!!
  19. So perhaps rethink the Fighting skill tree a little bit. As an example: Add "Dodge" to the skill set, of course this will need a dodge UI button and/or bind key. This may help break an attack after seeing something like some mob "focuses on your midsection". Add a graphic for the action. Also include the inability to Dodge when mounted or riding a cart. I am sure the list of fighting skills and graphics could be reviewed and updated. Perhaps add a few fighting tricks provisioned via Alchemy - smoke shield, poison darts, eye irritant, flaming tar balls. "Trickery" as a new skill? I don't disagree that fighting "feels" clunky, as it is graphically represented by a few repetitive movements, many of which are shared between all mobs and players. Would be nice to see a goblin do a whirlwind kick now and again.
  20. Thanks for the update. I went to watch it too and didn't see it posted.
  21. As one who started WURM with only a knife and flint, I don't think we need more starter items (other than perhaps a few extra free Sleep Bonus events). For the Steam release I really like the idea of increasing Pelt creatures for a period of time. This would really help progress the initial player base. For a limited time only on the Steam release server, have designated areas ("rat swamp" or "cat hill") where a GM could spawn a few dozen of these "pelt producing" creatures when they feel the supply is low. I remember when I started there was an influx of new people on Indy and it was pretty hard finding pelts at the time.
  22. Never seen an advertisement. I have seen some reviews. Probably nothing newer than 2015. Exactly this... WURM needs a fresh marketing package to be published on the website under their "Media" menu item. The few screen shots look great, but its not enough for a reviewer , blogger, or media outlet to utilize. They shouldn't need to ask for a full media package. Those media assets should just be provided to anyone who wants to use them. Logos, more video clips, a current news wire/ trade clip (if one is ever made) and a recent (positive) review quote from a professional gaming site/magazine. All with the community doing a fresh round of reviews themselves. A pro-blogger/vlogger/reviewer will not spend time creating content on their initial review. If WURM doesn't provide a full media package then its another barrier to getting exposure. You want enough marketing thrust behind those media assets so these same outlets will actually get in game and start clipping their own assets to be used with the "official WURM media asset package". PS: website's copyright and code club links are outdated
  23. My first Character and namesake of this forum account, started out as as food fodder for wolves as I spawned into Independence on a road leading to "Freedom Market". It was night and very dark. There was no tutorial. I came into the world with a knife and a flint, there was nothing else back then. I died within the first five minutes from a wolf coming down the mountain. I had no idea what I was doing, but there was lots of people helping out the nobs. As you might imagine the entire area was clear cut from all us noobs spawning. It forced us further and further away from the safe market place. A horse drawn cart came through the area and offered to take on noobs to their deed... I thought great, I join a game only to become an indentured servant, but it was the best decision I made. At that point I had a made a bowel and had a few iron rocks in my pocket. I learned a lot and was supported by others and eventually became mayor of that same deed as the previous owner moved on to make another deed. When I play I always try to pay it forward and help out a few new people. Even simple things like planting a few rows of cotton off-deed for the traveler to bandage themselves.
  24. My Garden Gnomes... they have been carried from deed to deed over the years and there is always a gnome somewhere sticking his head out of the garden.
