  1. Thing is , in many mmo's, your Account name and your Player name can be two distinct things. In Wurm, they are the same. I understand this was probably done for simplicity's sake, but I don't see much of an issue with Re-naming your character IF certain conditions were made: 1. If a player talks in chat, private or otherwise, you should be able to do something like CTRL + L mouse on their name and see if their name was changed. Example : Elentari : Hey Mike, how have you been? Bob : Pretty well dude, working on my new deed, you? (CTRL + Lmouse click on Bob's name) = This player is formerly known as Mikeluck, his player name was changed approximately 2 weeks ago. No other changes have been made to this player's name. Elentari : Oh you changed your name? Bob: Yeah mikeluck kinda wore out on me, so I went to an old school simple name. Elentari : Alright, no worries. 2. A player can also hover his mouse on another player and use "Examine name" option from a distance to see their Identity. You see Loremipsum. This player has blood from the Freedom Isles. This player is a citizen of the Freedom Isles. This player has had two previous names, X and Y. This way reputation can be maintained throughout the game, players can check each other's identity whether IN CHAT or by proximity using the "Examine name" function. Problem solved. I'll see myself out.
  2. There are plenty of "dad gamers" out there :)) . Well kidding, but what I mostly mean is gamers in their 30s, 40s and 50s. Kids might be included. And that's indeed our main player demographic. I'd bet most of our players fall into that age group. Also there are channels out there that are gaming oriented and their demographic is also in the same age range. I agree that you can't really aim wurm at a younger audience these days. Still, attempts should still be made. But i don't see any cohesive marketing plan being formed and led at the moment and that shakes my faith in Wurm's future.
  3. I don't see any significant marketing about wurm though. A brief check online doesn't reveal much chatter about the game. Marketing has been one of Wurm's sorest issues over the years and it is still not being redressed. Granted, the game does need a lot of fixes before its score rises in reviews but a marketing campaign is still badly needed. Hell, even partnering up with a few big youtubers is better than nothing at this point. Shame for this game to stay in obscurity after such a long run.
  4. Title : where do wishing well messages go now Correction : Where can players waste money so it can be ignored. There, fixed it for you.
  5. It's always a sensitive issue. On one hand, Wurm Online is a private company and can set whatever rules they want within their forums / in game. If they say "We don't want to talk about panda bears" and enforce that rule, then players can either talk about panda bears and risk a ban/ punishment or stop talking about it openly. We as players customers can either accept it or take our business (subscription ) elsewhere. So is the issue about "politics" or how the topic is usually discussed? Keep in mind , I am also the opinion that politics should rarely be discussed but NOT because i don't like the topic, it's because I don't enjoy how the subject of discussion degenerates into "Party A is ######", "Party B is crap" , "That political/economical/ideology is bad, mine is right, etc." It's rarely a topic that's discussed in a civilized manner and ends up, pardon my french , a mud flinging contest. However, politics is an important topic to understand the world, your country, this planet, how other systems are faring, how other cultures work. If I talk about say the abuses in North Korea, and a player disagrees with me, calling me a liar, do I risk a ban? If I talk about abuses in various countries, from the USSR killing their own people in WW2 or the US dropping a (mismeasured yield) nuclear bomb in the Bikini Atoll leading to 600+ deaths, do I risk a ban? What if I want to talk about the way Great Britain handled the polish fighters that fought in the battle of britain, defending a country that wasn't even their own? (hint, they kinda screwed them over ) Add to that internet trolls that can easily spark shock, outrage through simple sentences that I've read from reddit trolls such as " Trump is right to want to deport camel-jockeys back to the Middle East" which itself would spark a massive discussion, with heavy emotions on all sides. Those sentences are meant to create outrage , they are inflamatory in design and serve no academic purpose other than providing some sad bastard a dose of dopamine seeing people argue on the internet based on his sentence. Also, you have to balance out the toxicity of such chats and discussions in what should be an entertaining online game where a LOT of people come to disconnect from the real world, and not having to come back to the same stories they are bombared with 24/7, on their PCs, tablets, phones, etc. Art is escapism for many reasons. I don't envy the devs having to police such a mire of mischief. And training moderators for such a task seems like a straining ordeal in itself. If not impossible. We could easily draw the line at , cussing ,swearing, racism, xenophobia, etc. but the rest is quite literally the subject of thousands of treaties, papers, books on the nature of free speech, discourses and where lines are drawn. Personally I like the suggestion we could have a "Politics" channel in Wurm that can be turned on or off, similar to how we have the trade channel. The question is however, what does clasify as politics? If Amata and I want to discuss say .... how Kingdom X handles its members in pvp, is that a political discussion or a Wurm discussion? If I want to talk about It's an easy scapegoat to say "everything is politics". It's only that if you want to engage in sophistry and manipulate language and meaning in the process. I can just as well engage in linguistic manipulation and say "most things are armchair philosophies between people on the internet with no real life impact or meaning outside of this chat window". My end question would be, if we had a "politics" channel, would the moderators police everyone about panda bears or would it be a free for all in there?
  6. Chessing it on Epic is what 99% of the community has been doing since the EPIC<>Freedom transfers were implemeneted. Remember the personal goal frenzy? How hundreds of alts and players went to epic for various goals? If you have to switch to a server cluster to do goals you'd otherwise wouldn't do it on your own cluster then maybe something is wrong with the design of those goals and 99% of people know it, conciuously or not. These goals simply are annoying as hell since at least imping 100 000 items implies I can do it in my own time. Rifts always imply I have to conform my free time to Wurm's time, as a good little puppy.
  7. That still doesn't make sense Tor. Epic or freedom, the difference should be in time necessary to get to a certain skill level, NOT the values themselves. Someone skilling them on freedom should have the same values. Someone with 90 Halberd on Epic or Freedom should have at least 30 in Polearms. The discrepancy is nonsensical. This means entire parent skills are messed up for either 1 or both server clusters. And perhaps not just related to weapons but other skill trees as well. If this isn't one of the more legimitate issues the devs have right now, it should be. Any issue with the skilling system should be top priority for the devs since that is the core gameplay of wurm .
  8. I'll bump as well. I don't like this skilling system either. Altough to be honest I am not sure why my skills are slightly different. My halberd is at 81, staff at 50, spear at 90 and Polearms are at 73 for some reason. The fact that we have this big discrepancy between us means there's something wrong with parent skills in general.
  9. +1 to the suggestion but....I can't support the idea of PvP oriented potions. The entry barrier to being effective in pvp is pretty high. People with pvp knowledge are already way ahead of the regular crowd. Having to add a new meta to pvp is just too much, not to mention micromanaging everything on top of making sure you packed your 50 pvp potions with you. These are insane bonuses in combat : • chopped green mushroom + chopped red mushroom + potion + ground troll club (powder) + secrecy powder + (inside Cauldron) > cook on fire to get Bersekir elixir, that will provide you +2cr. count as the battle elixir • chopped brown mushroom + ground troll club (powder) + ground goblin skull (powder) + lye + tannin (inside Cauldron) > cook on fire to get hell strength elixir, that will provide you +5% of body str. count as the battle elixir • chopped black mushroom + charcoal + tar + lemon juice + tannin (inside Cauldron) > cook on fire to get Coca-cola, that will give you possibility to regen stamina while fighting (max timmer 20sec, 5m CD). battle elixir • chopped blue mushroom + ground troll club + stone powder + blueberry juice + lye (inside Cauldron) > cook on fire to get Guardian Elixir, that provide you x2 parry rating (max timmer 25 sec, 5m CD).
  10. Cart gives you a Combat Rating nerf which makes you less effective in combat vs...say being mounted on a horse which actually gives you a CR buff. Wagons are the worst of course. As tempting as it sounds, to hunt on a cart, you'll be taking a lot of dmg to your armor doing so.
  11. Reduce to 3 waves please. In the meantime I'll await for the 5th time it's posted in 2 months again.
  12. For all intents and purposes the steam release is basically wurm online but chopped into "patches" or "minor expansions" to give new players the feeling of stuff constantly being added. Aka goals, rifts, missions and so on. After that is ended, what will the player retention look like? This is my main concern. After all the "patches" are in, where does that leave retention? Yes the steam release did zero to impact old servers which honestly is kinda what many of us predicted. The reasons are many. New players don't want to enter an oversaturated market. Poor marketing for old servers. Remember the thread where MOST new players think the old cluster is "overpopulated" and "there's no room to settle or deed". ? Another reason why the steam release did nothing or even negatively impacted the old servers is this : Player count on steam increased and instead of maybe encouraging new players to at least take a look at the old servers the devs created new servers for the steam release. Basically spreading the population over the new servers. The old diehards as you call them, of which I also count myself, are basically unwilling to start from scratch after pouring years and many euros in developing their characters and deeds. Another important thing i'd like to point out, with the risk of seeming like a repeating broken disc...this phenomenon has happened before. It happened on Epic years ago. Here you have a dying cluster of players. So what do you do? You offer them a 1 way transfer to freedom. What happens afterwards? Epic dies out. Due to lack of significant pvp content added and lack of pvp balancing, pvp died. So everyone wanted to stop feeling they're playing in ghost town mode/single player mode and left for freedom. This happened what? 3 years ago? Was any significant content added to epic since then? nope. Did any revival happen longterm? Nope. Did any significant number of players joined Epic since then after the steam release? nope. So now we got another aged, sickly cluster, called Freedom. Diehards again, just like the diehards on Epic. Dev focus is of course on the steam release because financially those are their bread and butter. But for old freedom this means just stagnated content. Few new players. You "think" the cluster is ok just because you occasionally see some names in local or in gchat but it doesn't really mean it's healthy. All it takes is for 10 players on old freedom to leave on a monthly basis and you'll have 100 people left spread over 7 servers. At that point I'll still ask myself, will we get another transfer from freedom to the new server cluster? If so, isn't this repeating history of what happened on Epic?
  13. What a ....good chance * sarcasm *
  14. The mitigating solution to this would be to either allow CA's from SFI to also chat in NFI or Have a pop up message in CA to notify the channel itself that no CA is online at the moment. That way the players won't feel ignored and will be more understandable to the situation.
  15. Sadly ekcin, Wurm's economy does not evolve! It's the same economy it was 10 years ago. The same phenomenon happened on Epic and Freedom. People spam the market with high ql stuff, players get their skills higher and higher, prices go down, people stop buying because it's not worth it for me to make a 90 ql longsword to sell it for 1 silver. There are no item sinks in game, no character bound items, no chance to lose items if you are organized, simply put, items in game almost stay forever. I'm not talking about buildings but items themselves. A 80 ql chain set will take 1-2 years to decay. The chance for a random player to find that chainset on a random decayed deed is high. Steam servers will suffer the same fate. A new approach to wurm's economy is not only required, it's a critical must have or people still start leaving again. No trade = less player interaction = less incentive to play.
  16. I think i've only bought silvers from the shop once, and it was during that "personal goal craze" we had when tomes were flowing left and right and to add to upkeep. Always bought premium with RL cash, it's just 1000x easier and faster to make 50 euros in RL than it is to make 50 silvers in game. I put in some extra hours at work for a week and bam. If i would put in 10 hours in game of work I would have little guarantee I could make 50 silvers in that same time period. Granted I am talking about old freedom , not the new servers where the market is relatively fresh and things are more expensive. A 90 ql plateset on old freedom i could probably sell for 1 silver. The same plateset on the new servers would probably go for 10 silvers or at least 5. Huge difference. Point is, it's way way easier to make RL money and spend it in Wurm than to make silvers in wurm, either by selling goods or services. It's always been that way. I make some occasional silvers from a deal or two, but it's never my goal. It's just too time consuming and low ROI trading in wurm.
  17. Modern problems require modern solutions. Fix the player, not the game issue.
  18. Not to mention more negative steam reviews (wurm has quite a lot and it's sad) piling up and making potential players less inclined to play Wurm. It's annoying as hell to travel around Epic since you will 99% of the time : 1. Get chased by a unique. 2. Have a random unique monster (we got a champ forest giant on desertion, yay...) bash deeds everywhere. 3. Have hyenas/boars/gorillas kill guards everywhere and thus eliminating newbies protection....seriously guys it's stupid at this point. Just delete gorillas/hyenas/boars from Epic. Is it that hard? 4. Ask for help in chat or gchat and get cricket sounds. 5. No CA to help you there. Fun. Those things on Epic will most likely leave a negative experience on any new player. As i said years ago, leaving dead servers rotting in the open will actually do more harm for the game than good. Sad reality is this is the consequence of neglecting servers and issues that have been around for years. I am one of those vocal players that want fixes for Wurm before new features are launched. Repair what's broken before adding more things that will potentially be broken as well.
  19. Oh god this! exactly this! After you get used to most of wurm's activities, the repetition really sets in. You build up your deed ? Check! You skill some stuff? Check! You do some hunting? Check! Same people spamming the same things in trade chat? Check! We kinda need events or things to make us play other than "oh, that number went up by 0.016748 again". I am tired of the grind and of building, I'd rather be invested in other things in wurm, but when you take out the grind / building, wurm's activities are sparse and too few. Missions? Rifts? Pvp is dead on Epic. Chaos isn't doing much better. We simply have too few things to do other than sit on our deeds and build or grind. We need a developer to add new events to the game.
  20. Like the news about the combat overhaul, but may I ask what's going to happen about Epic? There's a 3rd cluster you know. Just in case anyone forgot. That keeps being ignored for quite a long time now as those playing there are also paying customers, albeit in smaller numbers. I mean really, I know it's the elephant in the room but any news? Are we moving epic to chaos? Will epic receive any updates ? It's a ghost town there. New players aren't attracted to dead servers.
  21. It's not gambling since some of your examples have been done at many impalongs for the past years. We've had combat contests, races, musical chairs, puzzles and so on with coins/rare items/unique animals as prizes. Gambling would be if it people were asked "To enter this race you have to pay 10 euros, the prize money is 500 euros". As long as the rewards are in game only, without real life money implications, you're good.
  22. Screw it. 100 Stealing. GG with that
  23. Wurm's game design has been solidified as being able to do ALL skills if you want, except those related to being a priest , unless you choose to convert. You can't limit professions, since once you hit 90 in something most players choose another skill to grind. If that were to happen people would spam alt accounts with 10 different professions on each. That would be real fun right? Kinda like how ultima online did it or how people in wow had alts with different professions. Old players on the NFI do have the advantages of knowing many in game mechanics that helps them to grind easier. That is true. But as Nekojin said, it would be impossible to enforce since old players can create as many accounts as they want. Sorry but your suggestion wouldn't bring any benefit to wurm.
