you mean obsessive compulsive disorder, yeah. a problem I see is that a lot of people use this terms very, VERY lightly. A dude gets bummed out because he stepped on ######, or because his bike broke, "ohh, Im so depressed", stupid and ignorant emo teenages who think that they suffer depression, while in fact they are just dumb (wich is a completely diferent condition). The same with OCD and ADD, this are real disorders, just because you like a balanced structure with say.. a mirrored axis, it doesnt mean that you have a mental disorder. Or if you are a lazy bum that rather watch cartoons instead of sitting your ass down to study, its not the same as having an attention deficit disorder, it just means you are irrisponsable and a lazy bum. But stupid people across the globe use this terms as excuses for their own pathetic behaviour, and in the end, the people with real disorders get the shaft,, because its hard to tell if someone is sad or a jerk, or if he has a real disorder, maybe caused by a real chemical unblanace, and is really having a bad time from an illness. PS: In either cases I dont condone people being jerks to others for no apparent reason.... Im looking at Derecho right now. Edit: I do not suffer any of this conditions, I am just a jerk by choice, I can still blame society and parents for my behaviour though.
  2. ohhh wait, both fighters are unarmed, and one of them has the hinderance of heavy armour, without the advantage of a weapon? that is a completely diferent scenario than what I thought you were initially talking about. Id say yes, in a 1 on 1 fight of equally skilled fighters, the fighter not carrying 45kg of metal on him will probably have an advantage. I guess I got confused with the "unarmed" combat thing, I thought it ment no weapon, instead of no armour.
  3. +1 A paperdoll like in Ultima would be great, and maybe its not necesary to make a huge change, the inventory/body could be kept like it is now, but the "character view" window could be added the function of being able to equip stuff to it directly, or apply bandages to it directly. A small backpack and/or inventory icon on the lower corners of the Character view window to drop stuff there directly when you click and drag things that your character is wearing. Think of it for a while, hands could be like a previous step. you click "take" on whatever is on the floor/butchered corpse/ etc. an icon (maybe like a pile of items) is displayed in the character view window, could be in the hands or upper corners, then you just drag that stuff to either the backpack icon, the inventory icon, or whatever container you might be wearing, like a quiver. You could do all this without actually opening the tree-shaped inventory. Of course that if you want to tidy up your inventory you would need to open it anyway, but the paperdoll/character view could be used as a fast and visually appealing basic interface for the inventory.
  4. Yesterday I run into the OP, and after some months of playing Wurm, I was able to communicate in my first language, wich was an incredible relief for me. Aside from that, the OP was very polite and helpfull providing directions and letting my party know about the surroundings. So Contestani, un abrazo y mucha suerte !
  5. Art Thread?

Nice pics everyone! though I see a SERIOUS lack of anatomy study in the digital ones. A tablet is no replacement for the good ol´ "look at a skeleton for hours and bash your head against a wall untill you learn how it moves", or at least thats how I did it year ago before I rusted. Lets see what I can share without being laughed out of town. This is china ink with a fine brush and a green alcohol based marker (aka: paper destroyers) And its how I spend the downtime in the office. This is a digital one from a couple of years back, I did it with an Aiptek 12000U. in a free program called Open Canvas 1.1, referenced, not traced. And, doodles from back when I had a 0.3 rottring stylus and a LOT of free time, I would never do cross hatching again. (I actually would) Also... Ive done plenty of stuff on request, like onanist portraits for game characters, and sometimes for gifts to virtual GF, in exchange of whatever the virtual currency was called in there. Anyway, its awesome to see an art thread in Wurm !!
  6. dunked a crossaint in coffee with milk while standing up being late for work as usual.
  7. I agree with the OP Title, guys please, stop targeting your own mount.
  8. FOV depending on what kind of helmet you are using. (if there was any way to actually implement such thing)
  9. Seriously FarmerBob ? You can say such things with a straight face ? Because that is the most obtuse attempt to defend a completely wrong assumption I have seen in a long time. And please dont take it as a personal attack, Id love to see the unarmed combat get a lot of love... but that last line, you have to be joking.
  10. Unless your characters are linked to your IP... free mail accounts are not hard to come by. However I see how being able to delete your own characters would be very usefull for that kind of gameplay. (with a million of menues asking if you are really, really sure to delete the character)
  11. FarmerBob, of course there are techniques, and fighting against an armed oponent, most of the times this techniques are about Disarming the oponent. This is a wild guess on my part because I do not know it for a fact, but it could probably be because the weapon is seen as an advantage. The scenario where an unarmed fighter can defeat an equally skilled armed and armoured fighter, while not impossible, it shouldnt be allowed to be something normal through game mechanics. And about armies teaching those techniques, I think it is more for physical condition and dire situations where you loose your weapon for any reason, no general in history has fielded an unarmed army, regardless of how well they were trained. EDIT: On a diferent note, if the FS was very diferent between the fighters (and talking about wurm specifically now), then it could be a "colourful" feature that a much superior fighter could engage unarmed against a much inferior but armed fighter. Wich Im sure would lead to great situations and great tales. Also, as I mentioned before, unarmed could be a way to subdue an opponent without killing it. (though such feauture could be open for abuse, depending on how is implemented)
  12. Well, anyone wanting to play "hardcore" can do it, its VERY easy, next time you die, make a new account and forget about the dead one. It doesnt really need a system for it, and everyone happy !
  13. I just want to say that merging TWO land massess, inlcude TWO communities, and so, it shouldnt be a UNILATERAL decision. Restrictions aboud, that is perfectly fine, but such a change would affect BOTH sides.
  14. Well, in my humble opinion, and regarding role play. I would say that the material and quality of the sword itself is irrelevant, its the story behind the weapon that counts for it. Maybe you kill your first lava spider, lava fiend with it, and after that you name it something like "insert cool name here", and after that you can improve it, and hire a priest to enchant it. And so with time the item becomes imbued with what really makes a heirloom, or relic, wich is the moral boost that such items bring to the table, more than the basic uses it could have. A 20Q short sword COULD be a hairloom, if through yoru adventures you manage to acomplish something important with it, then it would become even a more important item, defying the precognitions of bigger=better. Just my 2 cents.
  15. The idea that an unarmed man can defeat an equally skilled armed and armoured man is ridiculous, and history has always proved this. Since the dawn of time mankind has been in a race for better weapons, and that is not just a fetiche, it is because they do account for more effective combat. A brawling system would be awesome though, specially if it was non-lethal. It would open a window for a lot of "social interaction".
  16. Lets suppose, the server where that is/was has the problem of not having any wild non-agro creatures left. Would you be willing to sacrifice the less needed animals (if others did so too) in order to improve the the playability of the server overall ?
  17. Docterchese, while I agree with you, I just think that sending a restart message earlier is easier to implement than a completely new item and functionality.
  18. that is a problem with the textures, if I have to guess its client-side. I would be more worried about the brown horse growing inside the black horse, that calf should have been born years ago.
  19. I agree with Reylaark, theres plenty of things to be done outside of our deed/enclosure. I have had great adventures and great fun with the most trivial and simple things. I traveled Deli from south to north twice, just looking for an animal I could butcher for a pelt, and ended up discovering some beautiful sights, and meeting interesting and helpful people. The eventual fight/flee from mobs. And lets be honest, your horse is not easy to kill, because its not easy to outrun, I have yet to see ANY creature (not counting champions) that can outrun me while riding. If people like to attack a spider while riding... well, the risk factor is put there by you, you took your horse to a fight knowing it could mean his death and knowing you have the alternative of fleeing. For those who are really bored, and need "incentive" (in the freedom isles) I recomend you take a trip to Chaos, and look for some wildlife that may be extinguished in other servers, I guarantee an adventure. (you might get killed several times though, so pack accordingly). There is PLENTY of things to do outside of your deed, and outside of your home server if you are willing to take the MINIMUM risk it includes, and that it should include.
  20. Can we all agree that unless you are in your own house, 10 min. in wurm is not a lot of time ? Edit: ^^ I guess we cant all agree.
  21. I definitely endorse your idea Phyko, farm animals in the wilderness are nearly non-existant in servers like Deli. And I have seen farms that are crowded with a ridiculous ammount of animals. I dont see why someone would need 50 horses in one place, I doubt they can sell them so fast, and I doubt they serve any other purpose. There are already diseases, I have had a couple of sick animals already. But regarding this problem that you mention, I think that is up to the community of each server to see this problem and regulate their own farms out of good will. A blanket extra dificulty for keeping animals would affect new players more than old players. I dont think that the player who already has 50 horses in his stable will have any problem with building a stable 3 times bigger to bypass this problem. While new players might have it more dificult even with a reduced number of animals. But dont get me wrong, I see the problem of animals just like you do.
