  1. The files we host are not the same as the source image dump. What we host is a multi-layered/resolution tile based combination of file images that only loads to you what you see on screen at any one time. The torrent has the source png images those are made from. As an idea, those 5 source map dumps are 118 mb. The Tiles are 27,000+ files and 300+mb. It ends up bigger due to the layering but less bandwidth since it only sends what you zoom in on. Also it loads quicker.
  2. yes it is, it calculates the length based on the sections you add in. you must specify the segments to define the bridge. Only the arched version you specify the length because the design (sections) are fixed in code.
  3. yes. 1 tile per bridge segment. max 38 segments means 39 'borders' since you have a border on each end.
  4. because the length it shows is just to calculate on and find the end point for an error check on the last parts for type. The length is defined by how many sections you add into the sheet (1-38)
  5. max distance is 38 bridge tiles. Might have to use a spyglass.
  6. I'm sure open office would open the excel file as well and that is a free platform. If someone wants to convert it all to an online version or something else they are more than welcome. For the bridge height, I take that to be anywhere along the bridge due to the note about rope sag and probably so boats do not go through bridges... But since wood/brick are either arched or flat, the middle should always be higher than the ends right? For rope bridges you can adjust how much it 'sags' based on your body strength when you design the bridge. You need less 'sag' in the rope when one end is higher than the other to keep the slopes in a valid (walking) range. You can also try it out on test server.
  7. Announced with the news today: http://forum.wurmonline.com/index.php?/topic/122041-news-update-work-and-progress-week-16/ Bridge material Calculator: (Updated: May 04, 2015) calculator (Excel File Download) The excel spreadsheet will allow you to enter your bridge sections and see what materials are required. Leave any questions/comments here in this thread.
  8. Let me try to explain the excel sheet. The arched bridges are fixed configurations so you just enter length there and width. In general things will shade red when it detects something wrong. Don't count on it getting everything, there are a few notes about things i don't have checked. sheets are protected to help you but nothing is secret, anyone can unprotect the sheet (no password) or unhide sheets. the hidden sheets are just to lookup references. you will have to estimate your heights under supports to get the extensions. otherwise it should be fairly straight forward.
  9. You can try to argue these convoluted points when the GM's visit you after scamming someone. You will find all this lawyer speak will not help you.
  10. altar takes a large amount of lumps (50) but they must be made where you stand and then you cannot move them after that. I do not travel so going to make you an alter is not feasible, sorry.
  11. (59.02 + 59.36)/2 = 58.70 what is this supposed to represent? something averaging in a bsb? (remember it is affected by weight as well when it does the averaging). Can you explain what this is so it can be replicated on the test server, otherwise I'm not sure what you are trying to say.
  12. If you are unable to defend, why would you not join with more players or another group?
  13. CA/CM will not be allowed to teleport other players. I am sorry, but this is just never going to happen. Other than that this is a bug report and a known issue. GM's can take you out (carefully as some methods will kill you) but it is a DEV issue to fix/resolve.
  14. I'm not sure. I don't use it myself and said before i'm not actively doing it. The new mapdump will be out soon though, and it will probably need someone to take it over completely to setup as that kind of map. I can create the layers for whoever does that.
  15. banks are stored on the login server (Golden Valley) for silver coins so those will stay with you. For the server itself each server keeps a bank for the items. If the server comes back with same designation it 'might' keep them, but there is no information on it. I would move them out to be safe myself for the items, coins will be fine.
  16. As everyone is aware, the reset for the Elevation server is fast approaching. To facilitate the transition players are now able to request reimbursement for traders that they own using the in-game /support reporting system. These traders will be removed and reimbursed at a value of 20 silver coins each. To qualify for reimbursement a trader must either: Be located on a deed (Reimbursement to Mayor or designated alternate) Be located within a house (Reimbursement to Writholder or designated alternate) Traders not meeting either of the 2 above requirements are not qualified for reimbursement. Players will have until April 8th to make claims after which all traders will be removed from the server.

  19. bug could have been corrected, it was never intended to be used like that.
  20. It is the GM's choice if they wish to be publicly known who their play account is linked to what gm account, and each gm makes his/her choice on it. I would agree that it may seem that some staff are not doing anything from a player perspective. What they may not be aware of is not all functions undertaken by the GM team involve responding to tickets from players. So there are some GM's who put in very long hours each and every day on the game but not interacting with players. Sadly this is viewed as them doing nothing since their work is not visible to everyone. Everyone on the team has different interests, and if someone focuses on 100% bug testing, investigation, and confirmation, retesting etc. (as one of many examples) that is a very valuable task, just one you will never see or hear about. Does every staff post? Some do more than others. Sadly it seems to get less and less the longer you are staff. Even myself I've found that when trying to post something useful you end up with players who jump on you regardless since they are angry at all staff. We are human beings and it does affect us to some degree, and may lead to less posts. Not to mention the more responsibilities you take on with staff the more paperwork there is. Just keeping up with the paperwork can be a full time job in itself. I hear all the time from players how they believe everything is secrets and lies and 'swept under the rug'. You clearly have no concept of the paperwork / documentation / justification we have to do for everything. There is no one out there solo from staff and all actions are peer reviewed. I have expanded the ca/cm team considerably since I took over LCM. We were up to over 50 CA/CM a while ago but it is down to 40 members now due to removals (both forced removals and inactivity removals) Somewhere in this thread i remember it said something about being popular on a PVP server will get you hired, this is simply not true. The primary consideration is your activity in chat helping players, which is why i added the note to the application thread about it. I was simply getting far too many applications I had to deny for that reason alone. Even players applying 2 and 3 times over many months with not a single line spoken in ca help chat between applications. I think it only fair that you the players understand that if you are never helping players, you will never have the application accepted. I assumed it to be self evident before, but it must not be based on the amount of applications I reject for it. Some or most players may not believe me, but I can only say over and over that staff complaints are taken extremely seriously. But what some consider a valid complaint can... well.... vary wildly. I can only say if you do have a complaint, explain it since the ones that come in saying "this person is not a good ca" do me no good. And I'm being serious, a 7 word complaint and then the players are upset the ca is not fired immediately with no evidence or even any information at all. Mistakes are made, no doubt. Usually they are minor and learning experiences staff can improve from, but if necessary they will be removed. And yes, we are generally harder on staff. We will reprimand staff for borderline issues that we would saying absolutely nothing about if a regular player did them.
