  1. Pretty hard to setup a decent server that a lot of peeps like, so I doubt WO will die from WU

Depends on the requirements but considering it runs on java i have not much faith in performance. This will be a pain in the ass to run especially since you have to run it on Windows, a OS notorious for it's ba Multitasking and resource management. I just hope someone will make a Unix port ASAP. If not we will see a lot of laggy and bad servers.

  2. I consider this a great improvement. It allows us the community to have it our way to a greater degree. Lets say 5000 people (a very low number) buy into WU. If the base price is about 25 euros, give or take, he will bring in 125 thousand euros. That's a lot of money for staffing, and future wurm development. it can only improve the game.

You are a real businessman i see, how is your lemonade stand and kissing booth doing? LMAO!

Steam takes 30% + 5% is held back for refunds (this amount can vary).

Publishers usually take between 20-30% some significantly more (EA/UBI).

The tax man takes roughly another 30% in Europe i think a little more towards 40% in Scandinavia.

This leaves him with maybe 40,000-50,00Euro.

  3. Mob spawns have been broken for years and still are.

No seals, crabs or sharks on Xanadu either.

Animals still run to one corner of a pen and trample it/get diseased.

I came back hoping for changes and a new world to settle in and i am greeted with the same bugs and ###### from the devs i have heard for the better part of 10 years. You can shove your "game_mechanics ", your "wurm logic" and your stupid rules up your ass. The mismanagement of this game is getting worse over the years, at the beginning you could excuse it because it was only Rolf but now its inexcusable especially when you hike prices and call it a RELEASED game.

  4. On the North west coast of Exo there is hundreds of sharks which are having a negative impact on the hunting, Its about time the sharks population was severly reduced or completly removed.

Not even able to clear them as when you kill one another just appears in its place.

It's because animals move to the north west. If you put them in a huge pen they all gather at one corner, usually north west or north east. This has to be fixed already. It's been known for YEARS!

  6. There is nothing wrong with people making "I quit" threads as long a they are not offensive. Everyone has the right to post here and share his feelings about the game.

If you don't like it then don't read it or reply to it. If anything, the moderators should ban all the people that come into these threads and do nothing but spew venom, insult, belittle and bait. This is the exact behavior that will stop new players from joining. A toxic community is never a good thing.

Please, for the good of the game, stop being aggressive and just ignore the threads if you don't want to engage in a mature discussion about the persons issues with the game. You'll only harm the game.

  7. Did you miss the part where I wrote that I'm already paying for four premium chars with store money? And that I play because I like terraforming deeds? Nawww

Oh and I paid for the traders with store money too, and the placing the deeds...how is that using money from smaller deed owners...really.

Regarding the deeds being ghost towns..they aren't, I'm in an alliance and alliance members are free to come work on their woodcutting, using the mines. I'm always busy building and terraforming there, well before my break, so ghost towns they aren't. Did you also miss the part where I said all the leftover money goes back into the economy, there's trading and socializing for you. Seriously why all the venom and hatred.

How many citizens do you have in your 22s upkeep deeds? I mean REAL citizens that live there and play the game, have fun in a community. For 22s you can get a 50x50 deed with 2 guards. That is a staggering size and the only person really using it is you by milking traders.

This game needs community not individuals sitting on huge parts of the land.

I am not denying you whatever play style you prefer, just stay on the server you are currently on. No need to swarm Xanadu like locust consuming everything with your multiple alts and big coffers of silver.

Xanadu is great opportunity to make a new set of rules and change the way the game is played because one thing is pretty clear:

The current way the servers are set up is not working as the game is not able to get new players to stay and it's slowly choking under the stranglehold of a few veterans.

surprise, xanadu won't get connected for another month. Vets placing deeds without other vets getting in the way went much better than expected, and wurm wants to extend that opportunity lol

    Fixed

    Please stop kidding yourself

After exploring a huge part of XANADU (more than 1/3rd) i can safely say i wished that vets would not be allowed here.

The amount of deeds only placed to grab premium land without anyone building or working on them is staggering. I have seen massive deeds claiming coastlines or islands. Deeds just placed for strategic position on maps (possible canals, high traffic areas). Personally as a casual Wurm player that enjoys the game for what it is, a medieval sandbox where i can own a small piece of land and a house and interact with the neighbors for trade and hunting, i am disgusted by the greed of some players.

This game needs radical changes and Xanadu would be a great opportunity to bring these changes about.

  9. Since the remove trader crowd is getting vocal again, here is what I think. I took a 1.5 month break during all the Xanadu drama and the state of limbo it caused on Release, but I will say this: If I hadn't had traders I wouldn't have returned.

    The facts:

Currently I have 4 premium characters paid for by the Wurm store (one of them recently renewed for a year during my break): a general build character, a main vyn priest, a vyn battery and a mag priest. All of the money I make with them (not that much and even less after Xanadu opening up... I made about 1g with trading in 1.5 years of playing) goes towards buying bricks and armour/weapons and goes back into the player economy.

The traders I have pay for the upkeep of the deeds with 2-4s a month left over before Xanadu opened up. The leftover amount also goes back into the player economy (more bricks...can never have enough bricks). The upkeep for the deeds I have is 22s a month including guards (not counting the 2 deeds I inherited recently from someone who quit as I'm not certain on the upkeep amount there but since they both have a trader on it I assume they balance out). Now if traders were to be changed, given zero revenue due to migration to Xanadu or even removed on Release (not that I'm saying they will be!) I would have two options, well three really:

    1. I quit altogether, selling off my chars and deeds and traders (if they still exist) to people who may well shrink the deeds to reduce upkeep and/or use ingame coin to pay for the chars instead of money bought from the Wurm store. The silver I make that way would be converted back to RL money to recoup a small part of the money I spent on the game which means people buying silver from me instead of the Wurm store.

    2. Cut back on the amount and size of deeds. Well, I play Wurm for the building and terraforming, the rest doesn't interest me that much to be honest. One small deed just won't cut it for my playstyle, which is what I would be able to afford if I were to only use silver bought from the store..I would be cutting back on the amount of premium chars then as well because Wurm would be too expensive and not nearly as interesting to me anymore. This would also mean a revenue loss for the Wurm store.

    3. Rob a bank and pay for the chars and deeds with money from the store. Not sure how well I like prison, can you play Wurm there? Yeah, not doing that.

So yeah if the traders on Release are to be messed with in the future for me there would at the very least need to be a drastic reduction (90%!) in upkeep to make up for it if that's even possible. I don't see that happening.

Now I'm not saying that me leaving would have much of an impact on Wurm, I very much doubt it, but I can hardly be the only one in this situation now can I?

The entitlement in this post is beyond ridiculous.

No one needs multiple huge deeds that cost 22s upkeep and if you think you do need them then you pay for it with money in the store not with the silver of smaller deed owners and new players. People like you are the main problem even the small servers feel completely empty. Massive deeds everywhere with no people living there. Ghost towns owned by a few veterans that milk their traders every month to keep paying for their massive ghost towns.

This game needs some drastic changes to make it more social and engaging:

    1. Encourage players to build bigger cities and create communities.

    2. Stop the trader milking once and for all. A single person does not need multiple huge deeds all paid for by the rest of the server.

    3. Stimulate a player economy by giving rewards and incentives to people that actually socialize and trade.

  10. I already have 2 prem accounts on other servers, why should I have to pay for another one just to be able to be in on the land rush and experinece the new server. I don't get it. Deed stakes, sure, it means I could make a deed by paying for 5s but I can't to anything good with it without a prem char, so, every day this new server stays disconnected from the rest is punishment for being a faithful customer.

You don't need to be in the land rush. Personally, i wish all the veterans would just stay on their servers. We don't take kindly to level 70+ locusts swarming in, killing all the mobs and placing massive deeds all over the place.

Vote to Keep Xanadu Veteran Free!

  11. Finally some sense and consistency.

This is a medieval survival/sandbox game. If you really need something from a big city Trader you will have to go there just like in medieval times. This will encourage people to connect cities, makes it more realistic and stops the shameless exploitation that happened for years on other servers. Yes, trader milking is an exploit or "game mechanic [tm]" that should not exist in the first place. There is no need for player owned traders.

    This will improve the game.

  12. After all these years developing a game Rolf still has no clue how to manage or plan game updates and releases. There seems to be no Project Management at all. Making a simple Gantt chart is not difficult and it gives you a pretty good idea when you reach stretch goals and releases. The vagueness in every announcement tells me that there is a severe lack of leadership and planning.

Get your head out of your ass and commit to a release date

  13.

    Hi all,

The date for opening the server to others will be looked at later on this week, once we have a date we will do our best to give you warning.

    Regards,

    Retrograde

I am pretty sure the connection will not happen within this month. Rolf needs money for his summer vacation and you need to pay a second month premium for your alts to make that happen!

I have explored about 30% of the server (proud owner of the nomad achievement) and i have seen hundreds of deeds with ridiculous sizes, multiple spirit guards and no building going on just to reserve huge islands/coastal areas. The amount of new players i met with either no deed or the default deed size is minimal compared to the veterans with their alts and big deeds with houses on them already.

This campaign should have brought more new players because Wurm is in desperate need of that and not a bunch of rich vets flocking to a new server like locusts.

  14.

Go down to Result on the third page. This is where the meat and potatoes are at. On page 5 the company made a 61k SEK profit and in 2011 it made a 189k SEK profit. That is a 125k SEK loss if you average the two out but go back to page 4 and take a look at Staff and Executives. You have 400k SEK more going out to staff this year, ok lets leave that alone. Look at Remuneration of executives "Rolf" 203k SEK increase, 203k SEK + 61k SEK = 264k SEK that means the company did around 80k SEK more this year. Rolf used his pay increase to say the company was worse off? In actuality the company is doing fine without the price increase, where do you think the 60% is going towards if even with the increase cost of staff and Rolf giving himself a 200k SEK increase in pay?

    1650

    VAT recoverable

    116 527.00 <---- Recovered 2011

    103 443.00 <---- Difference between the two

    219 970.00 <---- Recovered 2012

The company files any VATs they pay in on taxes and recover a portion of it back. Rolf is off setting this by increasing the game price by 60% and we've all heard this from other people that the VATs is only about 30% not 60% and lets not forget Rolf recovers a portion back in taxes. The VATs was just a story to increase the price, so basically you pay 60% more which means Rolf won't pay a dime in to VATs but you do and he still recovers a portion at the end of the year without it being his problem and he pockets the other 30% on the price increase and the recovered portion at the end of the year.

His story was the company was not doing so well and VATs was increasing. The numbers give a completely different story.

If you love the game and want to continue playing it then by all means do, all I'm saying is lets quit telling lies and actually call a spade a spade, quit lying to the customers and tell them the 60% is going towards more staff to improve the game or will it just be another 200k SEK increase on his pay in 2013?

SCAM. No more money from me and this will be made public on mmo forums.

  15. EU (or Sweden more likely) wants Rolf to prove that his players are non-EU. They don't give a damn about if PayPal has that info available or not. So Rolf needs to store personal data about all his customers. This is Sweden, not USA, and Sweden, like Denmark, have very strict laws concerning storing personal data about people. It would mean that Rolf would have to pay hundreds of thousands of Swedish Kronar for storage, security and backup equipment to fullfill those requirements. I would rather those money be put into development of the game.

Setting up a payment processor that handles EVERYTHING for you incl. user secured accounts, VAT, fraud protection etc. Takes about an hour and is as simple as including 2 lines of HTML on your webpage. The usual processing fee is 2% per transaction and they offer not only PayPal but also Credit Cards, Bank transfers and much more. There are about 20-30 payment processors for Europe available to choose from.

I have set up online shops for multiple businesses in europe and there was NEVER a problem finding the right provider to make sure they are compliant with their countries regulations (which do not vary much in Europe).

My Premium has run out and i am not going to spend another dime on this game.

  16. So you increase the price for everyone except the people that been leeching from the community for years, in fact you reward these parasites by not increasing the in game 10s price. You do not even acknowledge the fact that trader leeching has always been a "feature" that was abused.

    Go ###### yourself.

I am out once my 2 months remaining premium are gone.

  17. Naw I'm pretty aware of what he said but you seem to be assuming he is only doing this with a short sighted viewpoint. Might have to put more up front to see those results.

Still allowing people to get premium with in game silver for the same price ( no 60% increase there ) and the financial loss he has from trader draining, i would say he is doing this with a very short sighted viewpoint.

  18. Maybe it'll be easier to do these with the funds increase? Oh wait.......didn't think about that did you.

"mainly to cover the changed way we have to calculate VAT. That the Euro has gone down 20% in value" ~ Rolf

I believe it when i see it. Besides, the price increase is for taxes and the evil exchange rates. No mention of better service or broadening the player base... didn't think about that did you?

  19. Congratulations!

You doubled premium player base since December last year with little to now marketing cost.

You will now get 60% more from twice the players.

You will make a boatload of cash from everyone panic buying long term premium and hoarding cheap Silver before May 2nd.

You gave your buddies that drained traders for years and have a huge stash of gold/silver a nice fat bonus. Not only do they still pay only 10s in game (where is the 60% increase there?) they also can sell their ill-gained gold for 60% more now.

But wait. Why you need all this money?

You have done nothing to further move this game into the gaming communities focus. No Steam, not even Greenlight, No other distributions, No Promotions, No Marketing.

You have done nothing to fix bugs that exist in the game for months, some of them for years.

The whole update and bug fixing process is extremely slow and prioritization is incomprehensibly for most users if not for all.

You have not hired any professional support and the communication with the players, especially new ones is a joke.

You use free volunteer GM services that while doing their best are not what people expect when you raise prices like that.

Give me just one good reason why i should pay your 60% increase if i can see no change in the way this Game is run since 2004.

  20. If you want to charge A+ prices for your game then you need to provide A+ Service. Right now you do not provide a service that can considered A+ so you won't get 60% more for the same game from me.

    1. Communication with the community is bad. Most people don't know about existing bugs, workarounds or "This is a feature because it was always like that" issues. I bet you that at least 50% or more do not know about the charcoal pile bug and the work around. There are dozens of things like that in the game.

    2. GM and CA while nice are not professional and volunteers do not provide A+ service.

    3. Flat out refusing to help paying customers because of bugs and "features" mentioned in #1 or game-play mechanics that are never fixed and are extremely retarded is not how you treat customers. I don't care if you think this game should be "hardcore" or "realistic". If a paying customer does not understand why some mechanic just cost him in game time/money because your documentation is frankly total crap then you don't refuse to help.

    4. The game is still in beta. Face it, this is far from a released game. There are just too many bugs and features missing. Even the artwork and animations are not done for a lot of things.

MOST IMPORTANTLY: Announcing this change 2 weeks ahead giving everyone the time to buy currency for 60% less is just completely retarded. The in game economy will go into a tailspin so epic you wish you would have never thought of raising the prices. That is the most retarded thing i have ever seen.

Good luck, i hope for you that the amount of players leaving or not paying for additional characters and deeds will not outweigh the price hike.

  21. This is intentional, and when I think about the number of people who start ships and abandon them, I'm glad it is. I'd rather not have the eyesore of an unfinished ship started by someone else sitting around for months, the ability to finish it and use/sell it if you so choose is invaluable. Just secure things better next time :)

As opposed to the eyesore of the hundreds of ships that are abandoned by characters that do not play anymore littered all over the place. Think before typing next time.
