Additionally, I have played this game 3 times the length of time of my friend and fellow villager Rileys and he in a far shorter time period has caught up and even past me in a few skills, why because he is dedicated and works hard! So don't give me this crap about the Vets forever being ahead of you... Work hard and you can catch them!!!
  2. Vets had it easy??? I don't think you have a clue wtf you are talking about.... There is no great omg awesome skill gain nerf that has ever happened.... That you are claiming has like its some sort of fact!!! Infact skill gain bye and large is far easier today with all the extra new content that never existed to fill in gaps and the Crafting UI.... You sir are spouting a bunch of hog wash like your some learned genius, you aren't.... And Furthermore if your a Freedom player skills don't really matter because you don't have any PvP... And if your a pvper then you go to Epic and you have the curve! Which gets you into the fight in crazy fast wurm time....

  4. Furthermore if Fo helped him Ascend then its only right and fair that he become positively aligned so that his supporters in the WL world can start supporting him instead of Fo....
  5. Gratz to Nathan he as has been said, Has waited a long time for this! However, WHY is he negatively aligned??? Is this yet another opportunity to screw with him, rolf? Should he convert to Hots just so he can properly follow his own religion??? And at the same time, "It will be a cold day in $%^& before I am going to convert to a religion who's name sake has been an Enemy WLer for as long as I have played the game!"
  6. Honestly if I played on Freedom I would quit too..... Your absolutely right its far too grindy, have you tried Epic? (The land were they kill each other is whats in your mind) Well I challenge you to get over your fear of death and come to a home server on Epic the grindy ness is much less your able to be usefull alot faster and guess what!!! You don't have people constantly trying to kill you either because home servers are a long journy for the pvp minded person. While you could still be killed on a home server by an enemy kingdom its not a very common experience. So the best PvE experience you can find in Wurm is in Epic on a home server its far better then Freedom the land of Ancient players with Fancy deeds and no danger....
  7. This is just flat out not accurate.... If you enjoy PvE play or light to little PvP then Epic homeservers are great for the PvE minded Carebear type player.... I can count on 1 hand the number of times I have seen WL in local since the new map has been created, in the meantime I farm, I smith, I decorate houses, I build canals and roads everything you all do on freedom with no evil griefer attempting to destroy my hard work.... However, all those times that I can count on one hand that I saw WLers in local they all donated there gear and sailboats to our deeds armory. You see its not like the day you join epic your going to be assaulted by a horde of WLers.. or BLers as the case could be.... You could have ample time months even to train up your skills before you decide to hop on a boat and go look for some PvP action because your bored... So don't listen to this neigh say'er and his whinging... If you have ever thought about joining epic but the thing holding you back is your scared to die everyday then you need to join because you have the wrong idea of what Epic is....

  9. Shadowbane was a great game one that was not served well by constant reboots of the server.... I went thru 3 different Shadowbane servers, was the first templar with wings on dread one of the first servers and I also started the Deflar fad.... but anyway back on topic, Shadowbane died not because of boredom as this dev is pointing out... It died because of a combination of World of Warcraft which killed many MMO's of the time and there constant server wipes.... So back to your flawed idea that Power Disparity is inherently a bad thing. And I say your WRONG, its good to have old veterans that are stronger and better they you are! This is not EVE where someone will forever be ahead of you in power... This is Wurm where you can be jealous where you can motivate yourself to play harder and work harder and train harder so you can cut the gap between you and that old vet that you so want to kill..... Those old Vets are the cheese infront of the mouse the reason to strive to be better.... Power Disparity is a great thing!!! Its one of the very best things about Wurm.... If I work hard I can crush my competition and so it should be... if you don't like it then work harder, or zerg better or find someway to get the edge on your competition.
  10. Just to echo what has been said over and over again in this thread.... Yes there is a Memory Leak in wurm, that is very apparent when traveling. Is this Wurms code or fault, perhaps and again perhaps not as Java is well known for memory leaks.... and the quality of your rig what Graphics card what operating system how much ram etc etc are not going to change the memory leak issue it will simply be more apparent for those with less RAM.... But No computer is immune, perhaps your running a version of java that performs better but that's about the only factor that could make you supposedly immune...

Well Sme you have shed some light on some stuff, for example I foolishly thought we shared the exact same missions in the mission rotation not that they had there own spin like your 1000 Blocks above sea level twist.... And I would just point that out as a perfect example of something that is wrong currently.... We should have the exact same worded missions that have equal difficulty on both servers... So I am going to retire from this thread but hopefully my ranting will serve to help educate others about valeri and point out some of the obvious flaws.... Like "WE NEED A MODEL FOR THE TEMPLE ART TEAM"

Your right sme I am a bit annoyed, and your probally right it was coincidental but that still doesnt change the fact the BL missions are inherently harder and not just because of our smaller playerbase but because of the missions themselves.... How many missions like for example the Temple which requires 10 rare white dotted flowers which you will not ever find on affliction because flowers dont grow here.... So who has an inherently easier time to do that mission a WLer or a BLer...Now then imagine making papyrus sheets simple mission right just collect some reeds oh wait how many reeds grow on mycelium? Sure there are plenty of missions that are the exact same difficulty no matter what server you are on... but there are far too many missions that are simply more difficult for us to do..... Sure we love our mycelium but how hard would it have been to come up with missions that didn't put BL at a disadvantage? Basically, Valeri needs a ton of work from the Art Team giving the Temple a damn Model already too how is the map going to fit 1 billion new gods running about it, too a clear lack of balance in the missions, playerbase etc....

  14. Yeah Nathan was regularly attacked by a weaker Mag..... Only 2 characters on the map could have taken out Biggi and Wurm makes a bee line for him? If it were mag that attacked him he would likely still be on the map... How many times has a strong wurm ever attacked nathan?
  15. So Nathan ascends forever and a day ago sits around and has never been taken off the map.... Biggi lasts a short time on the map and Wurm decides he must go.... And Tosiek, Nahjo go from demi god to god faster then a Geo Metro can reach 60 MPH??? But its all working fine..... Mind you the Demigod that was taken out in record time was a BLer....

  19. So its long long past time for the dirty laundry to be aired out in regards to Valeri.... Lets begin the long list of issues: 1) How it works is a mystery to most everyone even the most veteran players can talk for hours and still not come up with answers to the 1000's of questions one can ask about it. 2) Freedom has ZERO business doing missions that can cause NoGumps Eaglespirits and the hordes of valeri mobs to come kill us on EPIC, they have no business influencing the result of a valeri scenario that ends with an EPIC deed getting sunk to the bottom of the ocean after a valeri terraforming event. 3) Wurm running around killing Demigods??? Enough said.... Demigods shouldnt be taken off the map bye anyone other then gods, Wurm really has no business being on the ever crowded map.... 4) Vynora can't move but the 10 Billion up and coming gods can.... 5) WTF is up with Nahjo is he god or is he a demigod make up your minds already??? Its time the system is fully explained in total detail so you can't continue to keep making stuff up as it goes along....
  20. While I so agree that ships are now worse off.... Before we go reskining them again can we actually create a model for the placeholders currently in the game like the Valeri Temple!!!!

All I can say is- WTF No Model for the Valeri Temple after like 4 years but we can Reskin Ships to make them look worse and take away yet another wood texture to quote un quote improve game performance! This reminds me of Coffins which didnt need to be reskinned and I want the old skin back, Demon Statue's that are now dog ugly and the old demon was gorgeous and the only statue other then the horse worth building for decoration! Not to mention the new sword skin sucks.... But hey reskinning weapons for a 6th time while we still have placeholders in the game makes perfect sense for the art department....
  22. Well the double skill gain is not correct but not much ever is on wurmpedia.... Earlier in the post you stated for the most part correctly that 90 skill gain = much higher and thus if you were on freedom you would get a skill tick once a blue moon well that is indeed the case on epic at 90 you get skill ticks once a blue moon just like you were 99 on freedom.... So the curve is a double edged sword but its a good one.
  23. In regards to the point of this thread.... I have many times over advised to new players to not grind at all, but to play to play naturally.... This is the way I play 90% of the time and all of my skills for the most part have been raised naturally, however there are in-fact some skills that you just don't do naturally! But there are solutions to this, smithing for example you could possibly get away with blacksmithing naturally IE make a pick and go use your crappy pick or you could ask a smith to make you one, they may say that will cost you 1 silver if thats the case elaborate and tell them your not looking for a 90QL 80+Botd pick you just want something better then the 7 QL pick that you can make..... and they may so oh why didnt you say so I have a 4 dozen 70 QL picks laying around in my trash bin in the west end of the third building go grab one..... So yes there are skills like smithing, and rope making etc that require a certain amount of grinding, but if you limit the grind to small windows every other day or every day depending on how grind tolerant you are and maintain the majority of your playtime as grind free wurm can be very pleasant..... _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ On a different note I see a freedom player asking how getting a skill to 100 is harder on epic.... Well my answer is I don't think it is harder however I do think its about the same, what you must realize is that skill gain thru 70 on epic is far and away faster then Freedom no doubt about that, but after 70 - 90 skill gain becomes relatively comparable but after 90 skill gain is far far far slower on epic then freedom, so the trade off is you get to 70 faster but after 90 forget gaining skill.... And its a great trade off if you ask me.... _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Now on yet a different point, I see one problem with freedomers moving there accounts to epic and that would be strangely enough, freedom being used as a safe location to train skills free of the dangers of epic. So I think that a fee to transfer the character over could limit freedom being used as a new character training ground and keep the transfers over to epic as people who are in fact wanting to move there primary account and not trying to game an alt for some other purposes....
  24. yeah I can attest to this manual download being a slow slow slow process even with my glorious Fiber Optic huge bandwidth internet connection.... 961 MB and I am only 2/3rd s done and I have been surfing the forum for at-least an hour or more....
  25. I apologize for spamming your thread but after thinking on what is it about Wurm that just doesn't hook me the way UO and SWG and Shadowbane did and it has struck me in the face..... Its the Economy And before you come charging to Wurms defense regarding its economy I want to point out the glaring differences. Those other games started you off with ingame currency from the birth of your character, those other games had NPC vendors that bought junk, those other games had a much larger currency footprint. In wurm we have silver and we have the change that is left over from silver. When you think about selling anything you start off at 1 silver, copper equates to pennies in my mind, and Iron well thats just garbage that clogs up the inventory. The problem is that silver is expensive, it has real life value, you get it with real life currency.... So the economy in Wurm is one that is a bit elite, its one many players don't get involved in at all. So in the other games like UO and SWG and Shadowbane were I was running vendor houses making hordes of ingame currency as a crafter. In Wurm I don't I am still a crafter at heart, I have access to botd and can make nice wears but I don't have a vendor I sell my wares on, its just to expensive of an item to take a chance that it may fail on not make me any return, leaving me with a loss of real life money in return. I actually think if Wurm revamped its economy to make it more everyone friendly and not an economy for the elite upper class that wurm would indeed start to equal UO and SWG in my mind.... But until then its just a big gaping hole inside of the equation of what is the perfect game for me.... Unfortunately I will always remember what running a Vendor Mall In UO was like and its something I miss so much.... I hate games with Auction Houses because of it.... Anyway I digress....
