  1. lol, really? You are blaming the players MMO experience on the reason they left? Really? First of all.. At some points during the day Wurm doesn't even classify as an MMO due to the lack of players. Secondly MMO experience has nothing to do with why they left as you can see in his post that clearly states why they left and myself. 1 word BORING. The pace of the game is slower than old people have sex. It's down right boring, and the game as I said before looks Alpha state and who wants to play that crap in 2012?
  2. I was one of the people that he's talking about. Having things to do in the game isn't an issue nor the reason people get bored. They get bored from the fact that everything becomes.. watching a progress bar for hours apon hours. I bet, if you put damn animations in the game that even then more people would stick around. The game doesn't recieve updates in the way that it shows progression or improvment. Little tinkering updates that change the way the grass grows isn't going to keep players. I mean for god sakes look at the way the models look riding the horses.. We are like standing straight up through the horse. Look how they steer. Just tons of things this game lacks that could be done and fixed in a years time if someone *cough* would actually hire some real people to do it. But no, they rather be greedy asses and not actually progress the games develpoment to being playable in a finished state. Admit it.. the game looks like and sometimes plays like it's in Alpha. Let me say this, I know graphics aren't everything, and I LOVE the gameplay of Wurm I truly do.. but that just isn't enough. The game needs Better housing options, not the same square crap Animations Visable Armor Lower the damn time it takes to do things.. Shouldnt have to spend my entire REAL LIFE DAY just to do a few things in a game.. Should be the other way around Spend a couple hours to do more in game. A game isn't really fun if more than half the time your just AFK mining (progress bar watching) while your watching Netflix. I mean wtf wants to sit there for 10 hours a day and look at a black wall and listen to a clock noise everytime you character makes a sound and no animation of hitting the wall. fun fun. What would you rather do.. look at something that looks attractive to the eye all day or something ugly. Like it or not, people play the newer games because of looks and gameplay.. if you dont have those 2 things you wont get much of a playerbase. People don't quit because it's too hard.. they quit because its not a game, it feels more like a chore, and chores are boring.
  3. New mailbox at 29y,46x Crystal Bay Manor. Courier[87] on it.
  4. you sure? dam that sucks, it was like 2 tiles wide in places apart from the south shaft which was 1 tile wide, i bet its just caved in alot and a fair portions still there, least i hope so lol ya it's there I was in it about a month ago and used to use it for mining iron when i started the game.. I went as far as I could go in it and it was caved in at some spots, but now someone has put a mine door over it and we can't get in anymore.. Or the cave entrance just caved in.
  5. Just to add to that as i use to live where bougainville is, there is a MASSIVE mine system in that mountain you pictured there just after the small man made canal where cystal valley use to be (your missing an extra point of land that pokes into the lake btw) which goes about 120 tiles east, then about 300 tiles south connectng the small lake to Cystal Lake, most of it may have already collapsed, but i doubt all of it has It's all caved in, I have been in there. The bay itself has no connection to the Lake at all.
  6. This is a little better map of the Crystal Bay Area. Mind you I'm not the best with Paint but I tried my best and this is the way the area looks now. Crystal Valley is Abandoned and decayed. There is also a road connecting Bouganville and my place Crystal Bay Manor. Also there is a Road that heads south along the waterline to my old place that is now abandoned. I wish there were more people down this way there is plenty of Rock/Clay/Sand/Trees and Steppe too. It really has it all but no population. Location is 29y . 45x
  7. Lag

Don't expect it to get better. It's been like this since I joined 2 months ago and it's getting pretty annoying and making even the $6 a month not worth spending when you get limited game time because of login servers being down or just horrid lag to the point of 1 minute lag spikes every 2 minutes. I haven't seen any attempt at the issue being fixed and the person that handles this goes on vacation every other week. So obviously making the game worth playing isn't his top priority. P.S. In before the fanboy "The lag is fine, Rolf is allowed to have a vacation" brown nosing. Lag is not fine and yes he is allowed, but if he wants anymore money from me and probably many others he needs to lay off the vacations and fix this crap.
  8. in answer to your question herguy: it was done at a time when a large group of players (4-chan) joined all at once, and overwhemed the hardware of the server at the time for JK-H. GV was added as an attempt to spread the load out a bit, but the general idea of moving non-prems away from a server that rolf considered PvP was allready in the works before it happend. Food for thought: if it was working as well as rolf intended, or even as well as the old JK-H did, i doubt rolf would be spending time changing it. hes a busy guy. But you still can't say it worked because they were removed. I see the reasons why, but I still stand with my point.
  9. I'm most definitely looking at it from a business point of view. Wurm Online is 'unmarketable'. It is very much a niche game, developed for a small audience. It can't be marketed like a traditional MMO, like WoW, because Wurm Online doesn't offer the instant gratification that those games do. People must be willing to put in the time, to discover the game's charm and get hooked. The transition from non-premium to premium is exactly the same. A player has to experience the charm of premium, you can't simply tell him about it and expect the person to be interested, it doesn't work that way. It has to be experienced. Experience by proxy is in this case the most successful way to get people to go premium. This cannot happen on the Golden Valley, as it is off-limits to premium players. As such, the Golden Valley is a design failure, and it only serves to separate new players from the xenophobic premiums, who probably wouldn't even notice it if their game was a single-player instanced version of Wurm Online, with an integrated IRC chat channel. Well I guess the game will stay with the base 1500 players because if you are expecting the generation of gamers that there are now to even spend more that 14 days to decide whether or not they are going to pay you will lose in that area because that is the type of gamers that are now in the market. Wanting more Subs means he wants the game Marketed... because you wont get them otherwise. It has to be known that it's there. And don't say because I'm New to Wurm that I don't know what I'm talking about. This has nothing to do with my time on this game. It has to do with my time in the MMO industry and business background in the gaming industry. If Rolf wants to keep Wurm with this small player base that is fine with me. I like the community and it's closeness to each other, specially in game. But to me "Wanting to change the game to get more Prem Subs" is a sign that he is either hurting in the pocket, or wants more in the pocket. Straying from the norm will not get the results wanted as you can see with many other MMO's that have tried to be "Different" (Global Agenda - Darkfall -AoC - Matrix Online - Fallen Earth) just to mention a few.. The PC gamers like and pay for what works, and it's all good and fine to make your own thing but don't expect any results from something that isn't the Norm. I'm simply stating what works in the industry at this time and why it is the base for most if not all MMO's. If Rolf wants to go a different direction by all means I am not one to tell anyone what to do. I'm simply saying what has worked and will continue to work in the future.
  10. They should be getting this feeling when they cap at 20 skill because they have been playing for 3 months for free. And the fact they see there are boats and stone houses and such in pictures and such that require higher skill. There is no need to bring them to a Prem Server to show them this.. it's all made clear when you sign up. Again, many of you are looking at it from a Moral/Feelings point a view. This is a business not a care bear center.
  11. Lol. that's pure speculation. I KNOW for a fact that it did work on JKH and I'm pretty sure a limited trial period in the end will bring less new subscribers than the current setting with GV. If it worked on JKH then why did it not stay that way? And it's not speculation it is fact. Most if not all MMO's use this system for this reason. Go ahead and advertise that the Free players can play with the Prems.. I'm telling you now there will be gold selling spammers coming into the game and more Free players and not many more Subs. Once the gold sellers see that they can play for free with the Perm Subs they will come in. Keeping the Trial/Free players in a different area keeps them away because there is no money to be made with people that play for free. But go ahead and support the idea..
  12. And that is good because now it's there.. Like I said before stating things that were not available in the past has no merit with what is there now.
  13. /thread LoL this is not /thread. That has nothing to do with the topic. And if Rolf "Wants" a ftp game then wtf is he charging for Subs and Wanting to move people to Freedom to "INCREASE"" subs. so you are another person that does not know what they are talking about and Copy pasting things before you actually read them and know what was said after the fact. And no one is talking about Getting rid of them.. Talking about Limiting their mooching and turning it into Profit. Oh and you missed this quote "It's gold in the sense that we charge money for it, but that's mainly because I want to survive.", So don't say that he doesn't want Money. If he doesn't get more Subs he is eventually going to completely F2P or scrap the entire thing.
