  1. Ah! Knowing that there are multiple sound groups, I would hope that making a slider for each group would 1) be a relatively easy change and 2) allow everyone to set each group as they see fit. Personally, I'd love to see one slider per group. Also - I would love to know what 'buzz sounds' stands for - I see it in the client sound settings, but have no idea what it controls and the wiki doesn't seem to explain it either.
  2. I think Wurm has phenomenal ambient sound effects and it really brings the game to life for me as a player. However, I find myself wishing I could turn noise of my chopping, digging, and hammering down just a bit, and turn the sound of the wind, the howling wolves, and the crickets up a notch or two. It seems most modern games have two sounds channels, one for background SFX and one for player SFX. I would love to have the same option here in Wurm. And with the recent addition of volunteers to work on the sound code, it seems like a good time to make the suggestion.
  3. I can see an isolated hunting camp in my mind - a big tract of forest, a modest cabin, no unsightly roads crisscrossing the area... Hermit's Roost Pristine Refuge and Game Preserve Hunter's Folly As someone prone to RP, I would suggest thinking about features of the surrounding area. What trees are most common? (Birch? Cedar? Pine?) Is there some distinct geographic feature that would be part of the deed? (Valley, gulch, ridge, cliff, etc?) Have you found yourself giving personal names to features in the area? (Treacherous Flats, Marsh of Sorrows, etc.) This might lead you to come up with a idea that feels inspired by the land you are planning on settling. Cedar Gulch Preserve Cape Lemonridge Sorrowcliff Hunting Lodge etc.
  4. Deed name: Meerhaven Deed location: In the upper left corner of X25, Y9. Cheers from the southern coast of Pristine! - Sidereal, Mayor
  5. All the best to you up there in Draculand! Meerhaven sends greetings and fondly remembers your homesteading down here on the south coast. For those of you that haven't had the pleasure of meeting Necrorave yet, he is a heck of a chap and has a great sense of humor. We miss him.
  6. Darkmalice - I would like to thank you for all your efforts. Pristine would not have been the same without your cartographic skill these last three months. And while I am saddened that you will no longer be able to maintain this map, I am grateful for the hours you have spent so far to make this happen. Thank you for your time and effort. The settlers of Pristine are in your debt.
  7. Being able to see the player-given name to container items as: (Textiles) small chest, birchwood (Iron goods) small chest, pinewood ... Would save a lot of window resizing when trying to find specific containers. If I had an iron coin for every time I had to resize an inventory window that looked like: small chest, birchwoo small chest, pinewoo small chest, cedarwoo ... I could make a serious dent in deed upkeep. Since there's already an option to display "small chest, pinewood" as "pinewood small chest", I felt this might also be a worthwhile tweak.
  8. I'm thinking along the same lines as camberme for #8 - and would suggest 'Gargoyle Bay' for the same reasons.
  9. A handful of folks are scratching out an existence on the south coast. As best as I can tell:
  10. Now that is an interesting piece of data. From my understanding of the current rule of 'deed it or lose it' that the behavior may be "legal", it sure is a jerk move IMHO. I'm inclined to agree with yarnvek on this one: if existing silver had not been allowed in, players would have been required to front money in order to secure those deeds. And since a player can only be mayor of one settlement, it sounds like someone had several mules ready at server start with the express purpose of grabbing as much prime real estate as possible. And while technically within the rules, it really feels contrary to the spirit of the game from where I'm standing.
  11. I would agree with our esteemed colleagues Brash_Endeavors and Protunia: I wouldn't fret too much. Of the 172 people that answered that poll, only 66 indicated that they intended to even make characters for the new server. Of those, only 14 said they definitely intended to stay. Even given the fact that 40 deeds were planted in the first four hours of the Pristine being online, the continent is large and plenty of nice plots still exist. I share your concern that 'premium' plots: mountaintops, coastlines, and other aesthetically pleasing areas are likely to be snapped up and held - but that hasn't diminished my experience on Deliverance of taking over a long abandoned area and making it my own. Deeds come and go, and although there's a special feeling of being the first to work a piece of wilderness, it's really the work that you yourself put into an area that makes it feel special.
  12. I appreciate all the folks that took the time to vote and those that went the extra keystrokes to talk about their decision. It was enlightening for me to get a glimpse at the range of player motivations that are out there. I'd like to give a very special shout out to the two players that indicated they would not be making a character on the new server, and then answered either 'yes', 'probably', or 'probably not' about staying on the new server. As a player that has only signed up within the last week and converted to premium after about a day, I'm still excited about the new server. It's rare to approach a well-established game as a new player and still have the opportunity to take a crack at blank slate. Call me crazy, but I'm actually looking forward to 'being gimped' in this way: scratching out a living with newbie tools has felt like just the right amount of difficult to me. I know I don't have enough free time to become a mover and shaker out of the gate, but I like the feeling of getting in on the ground floor after having played enough to have a good feeling for what I'm doing. If I'm wrong, I'll still have Deli to fall back on.
  13. With Wurm 1.0 go live announced for Dec 12, we've seen plenty of discussion regarding player opinions on the newly announced server. Instead, I am more curious as to whether or not people plan on making a character on this new server. Hence this poll. This thread is not for a discussion about whether or not a new PvE server is needed; nor is it for discussion why this is may be a good or bad idea. Quite simply: will you make a character on the new server on Dec 12? Why or why not?
