Though this was resolved, I think there is a difference between the letter of the law, and the spirit of the law. The letter of the law says it's not a legal enclosure, but the spirit of the law (I believe) is that you can't go and wreck someone else's creation as long as it's reasonable. I believe the business about fences alone being a "illegal enclosure" comes about because people would spam fences everywhere. So, for example, you see some nice oak forest and just spam some fences around all of it and claim it as your own. Or, you like to hunt in the steppe, so you fence they entire steppe in and claim it as your personal hunting grounds. But, in this case, a reasonable sized farm with a house 2 tiles away and a clear path leading to said fenced farm... yeah, the letter of the law says it's not legal, but the spirit of the law says it is, and it's the spirit of the law that should take precedence. I'm a little disappointed the GM didn't make a clear call on this.

This poll seems to demonstrate the obvious. People actually want freedom to build whatever suits them. Perhaps we should have a server cluster named to reflect this sentiment. oh wait... For those who want to impose their will on others, Epic might be more your style.

Why stop there. Guideline 4: No apartment-esque houses. While they might have existed in the past, nobody would use them like in this game, thus have no purpose and are ugly. Guideline 5: No spamming useless houses all over your deed. I saw a deed once that had a building labeled "office" and another labeled as "hospital", etc. You get my point. It's just ridiculous to role play like that. Lets go ahead and put a kabosh on all of these wild and unique designs and say a building can only be 2x2, 3 floors high. And can only be painted in pre-approved patterns and colors set forth by the Wurm Online Home Owners association. What a wonderful Wurm it would be. A place where your deed is yours, except if I can see it. Then it becomes community property and subject to the my personal judgement. After all, we do share this world. And sharing is good.

You're missing the point. Nobody said opinions weren't allowed. The reason I in particular have weighed in on this topic is because the OP and supporters seem to think their opinions matter so much, that limits need to be put in place to conform buildings to their tastes. People who hold themselves in such high regard and think this way scare me. As demonstrated by your comment, "and those who build mushroom houses will have to accept that others find them horrendous." I have to ask, but do you really think that when I'm building whatever it is I want, that I'm concerning myself with what others think? That somehow, even though I thought it was appealing, that I may not build it because "others find them horrendous"? Well, here's something that might keep you up at night, I don't give 2 wood scraps what you think of my creation. I don't really care what you think of any creation you happen upon. Try this for a week and see how it works for you. Worry about your own deed and quit trying to tell people what to do on theirs. In short, mind your own business.

If you are suggesting that beauty and good taste only exists because it follows some sort of rule, then your opinion on beauty is worth nothing. Seems to me that only the most elitist snob could actually believe that they are the judge and jury on what is tasteful or beautiful, be it in Wurm or anywhere in life.

You could also have a vyn or mag priest cast ice and fire pillar on the enchanted trees to remove them. If you'd like to go that route give me a PM and we can discuss.

I've been using a bison as a tank/cart mule. Tame it, hitch it to a cart with a horse, take your cart to your favorite hunting spot. Unhitch both and use the bison to get all the aggro. This is the only thing I've found that a horse can't do better.
